I bought my Lotus Grill locally rather than through Amazon because I wanted to see one 'in the flesh'. I did, however, read many reviews on Amazon and other websites before I made my purchase. I did this because I already own a Cobb BBQ, a Weber Smokey Joe and another Weber portable BBQ and I was struggling to justify buying another one even to myself (and I am pretty good at justifying most purchases to myself usually!!)I am incredibly impressed with the Lotus Grill. I love my Cobb but it is best used as an outdoor oven rather than a BBQ. The Weber BBQ's are good but they take 30-40 minutes to be ready to cook. This is where the Lotus comes into it's own. Less than five minutes after lighting the BBQ ready to go.It is hard to believe really but it is true. Having ready a lot of reviews I also bought the lighter fuel and the lotus hardwood charcoal. The lighter gel is, I suspect, not really different to other ones on the market (but it is also no more expensive really) but the charcoal is different. It is smaller and it packs into the charcoal container well. Larger pieces of lump wood charcoal would not fill the container so well. I have found that a full container keeps cooking for about an hour. What is really fabulous is that the fan allows you to control the temperature. If you want a quick blast of intense heat, turn the fan up. If something needs to cook more slowly, turn the fan down, lower the heat and cook more evenly and slowly. We are a family of four and find the BBQ adequate for our needs. The BBQ comes in a carry bag and is very lightweight. I also bought the teppanyaki grill which, whilst expensive, is a really well made reversible griddle. It will also fit on top of the BBQ in the bag. Cleaning the BBQ is no more difficult than cleaning any other BBQ - Never a joy to do but nor is it too onerous. If you want a lightweight, portable BBQ that will cook thin cuts of meat (sausages, chicken breasts, burgers, pork steaks), seafood and vegetables easily then this might be the BBQ for you. If you like to cook thick fits of meat (legs of lamb, while chickens etc) then this is not the BBQ for you (although, to be fair the lid might make a difference but I wasn't willing to pay extra money for a lid that doesn't fit into the carrying bag) I thought I would only use the BBQ for camping but we have been using it at home too when we are just cooking for the four of us - it is a revelation to me to be able to have a charcoal BBQ without having to wait ages for it to be ready to cook on.UPDATE - August 2016My Lotus Grill has been used a fair bit this summer and now the fan is making a strange noise. At the moment it sti love works but I suspect it might not for much longer. An email to Lotus was fairly unhelpful and just told me to return the grill to the retailer which I will do. I know some other reviewers have had problems with the fan so maybe it is a design fault. If you take a look at there website there is a PDF you can download with long-winded instructions for replacing the fan (at a cost of £15.00!) so it seems they already know about the problem but haven't invested in better quality fans yet!

What a fantastic concept, a little portable grill (it can easily cook for four people). from ignition to cooking in 4 min seriously its that fast,A little variable speed fan turns it into a mini blast furnace and your food cooks very nicely with a hint of charcoal great for steaks.Built quality as usual from Germany is excellent and the main pain of cleaning a BBQ has gone, most of the bits can pop in a dishwasher. You can even carry it whilst is cooking at its hottest setting, recommended. I will keep my bigger BBQ for larger crowds for for a few friends this is the beast.EDIT: After a few uses I suggest a max of 4 diners, any higher and you need to consider some form of 'inflight refuelling'as the device does consume charcoal, you could life the lid off and refuel it as its burning with caution.Using it just to cook for two I did not fully fuel the burner and it worked well but when its fully fuelled with charcoal it really comes alive, the heat and occasional flames lapping around the meat produce some fantastic results. At least one of our guests is off to buy his own after seeing ours in action.

I was a little sceptical before buying this, but took a chance and got it anyway. I'm so glad I did. I can see this thing becoming a staple of any outdoor day trips. It's big enough to cook for a family of four, but obviously you could cook for more if you staggered the cooking.I thought the fan thing was going to be a bit of a gimmick, but again was mistaken. It works like a charm. The whole thing is sturdy and robust, but is fairly lightweight, and easy to carry in its bag. Better still, it's really easy to clean as the bits are all stainless steel. It all fits together perfectly after cleaning. We experimented with charcoal and briquettes. The charcoal worked best. We also tried with gel and block firefighters. They both work, but gel was best. We're used to bbqing with a Weber, and achieved similar results with this, again experimenting, by using a disposable baking tray to cover the food as it cooked. It worked well enough.

Bought this after deliberating between it and the Weber Smokey Joe. I'm glad I opted for this as it's unbelievably quick and easy to use. You dab on some of the lighter gel which is as easy as squeezing out toothpaste. There's a little chamber for the charcoal (I do suggest the LotusGrill one as the pieces are smaller and it really is smokeless) and then light the gel with a match, put the charcoal chamber on top and within a couple of minutes it's perfectly ready to go. You adjust the temperature with the control knob which means you can cook everything from delicate salmon to thick burgers without burning or drying it out, which is much better than having to fiddle with stoking / adding charcoal etc.Food gets proper BBQ patterns and taste, even though it is smokeless. It's easy to wash as the main bits can go in the dishwasher. Also comes with a carry bag to store it in winter. A full 10/10 from me.

This was a gift for my hubby ,who has never owned a barbecue because of health scares and "it can only be used a number of months in the year,so what is the point! "He absolutely loves it! It was easy to set up. I couldn't source the lotus charcoal and gel at a decent price ,so bought high quality charcoal locally and a well known brand of gel.The charcoal that was too big and had to be broken in small bits. We worked out that one large bag will last us for years,it is so economical to run! It all worked absolutely fine and warmed up real fast.I am hoping it will continue to work efficiently,as I have read reviews on fan issues. Fingers crossed!Update 2020: This barbecue is still going strong 3 years on,no fan issues, but has revealed a very expensive flaw a you have to keep buying the inside bit a it disintegrate rapidly over one season. At around £18 for replacement. It is expensive long term.

This is really quick to set up and start cooking, beware as it really is quick! Very efficient use of charcoal, clean as there is little smoke and easy to light. It is probably best for good quality meat rather than goo-coated fatty items, these leave it quite difficult to keep clean, although it does clean up very well. It is easy to assemble, the instructions are clear and accurate, the device looks really good on a table-top. I have no hesitation in recommending this.

I have been using this for about a year. It lights so quicklyIt is so easy to transport and use with hardyly any charcoal needed which lasts well. It lights in a short time. I cook corn inside by the charcoal and the meat etc on the top.You really can carry it around when it is alight.Cleaning afterwards is fine, just soak for a while then use a sponge with some pan cleaner. It all stores in a well made bag with a zip closure and just sits on a shelf in the shed.

We bought one of these from the London Boat Show. We liked it so much we bought another one for my daughter and son-in-law. This size is only for 2-4 people but it works really well. There is a larger size for 6-8 people. My wife and I tend to use this to barbecue instead of our gas one.The Lotus grill is easy to set up. quick to get going, cooks everything very well, easy to clean and it is portable. you can take it on a picnic. We wouldn't be without it. Love it

We love our lotus grill. Perfect for impromptu grilling or taking away on trips. It’s ready to go in 5 minutes or less and is safe to move around as the outer frame doesn’t get hot. Feel a lot safer letting little ones near it than a traditional bbq. It doesn’t get super hot like a regular bbq, so some foods take longer and I wouldn’t try and cook a large piece of meat. It’s a lovely little bit of kit!

Had a cheaper version of this design last year as a trial which was brill but only lasted six months due to inferior quality so decided to go all out & treat myself to the Lotus Grill. Superb design & build quality. So easy...ready to cook in 10 mins. Uses tiny amounts of charcoal. Pretty much cook on it everyday when camping regardless of the weather. Brilliant buy.

Tried this out at the weekend, and even though we didn't have the gel and used the liquid lighter fluid it was fine. I wasn't confident, thought we'd just be able to cook a couple of steaks only, boy was I wrong, we cooked loads!Definitely will be recommending this to my friends and family.

Heats up quickly and delivers a constant heat which cooks your food rather than burning it.Couple reviews about lack of spares but found these guys had a few locally in U.K. like the charcoal container[...]Can't fault it for what it says it does :-)

Must be idiot proof as I'm hopeless normally but managed to use this successfully first time. Adjustable fan is great to avoid overcooking. Food tasted great and also easy to clean. I use it at home but portable so good for camping too.

Fantastic barbecue ready in minutes from lighting extremely controllable heat because of the in built fan.Perfect for camping/carravanning.Was recommended to me I recommend it to you!!

Great for camping. We use it with our motorhome. It lights fast but doesn't get really hot which isn't a bad thing with a barbecue. But don't expect some smoking monster!
