My wife and I have played London 2012 for a few days and, having gone through all events, we can say that it's a really nice Olympics game. We liked the variety of available sports (we haven't played Beijing or Athens to compare), and having things like shooting, keirin cycling, weightlifting, kayak and trampoline was a very nice thing. We also appreciated a lot the effort put in more "complex" sports like beach volleyball and table tennis. We grew up used to the button-mashing system and were happy to see that London 2012 dropped it almost entirely (only weightlifting requires the "classic" button-mashing). In the rest of the sports, most of the instructions are designed to replicate the body movements of the athlete. As a previous reviewer said, some sports are easy to learn and hard to master. Some other ones are easier (I broke the high jump world record in my first attempt playing it), but to me it looks like one may never reach the point of being able to repeat the perfect movement every time.Athletes names and faces aren't the real ones, but you can fix it through customization. It will take a lot of your time, but if you want to run against Bolt, swim against Phelps and play volleyball against May and Walsh, you can do so. We are customizing our game slowly. We also appreciate the chance of competing in sports where everyone plays together, and not only the "only one player per turn" system seen in most Winter sports. And we understand that it limits the number of players to 4, since it works with a split screen and splitting it in 6 or 8 parts would create a very small image. In the end, London 2012 seems to be a nice game to call your friends and play at home (even better if you have 4 controllers to allow more competition). But, that said, there are some minor flaws that prevent me from awarding it a full 5 stars: lack of victory ceremonies in "event" mode; national anthems cut in half; small number of countries compared to the number of nations in the Olympics; the "points" system in the medal table, which no one uses as far as I know. As you can see, none of these are related to game playability; these are just details that could be improved, although I don't know how much memory and work would be necessary to have, for example, all 200-something countries (each one with its own uniform, athlete names and national anthem).

There here, the OLYMPICS are finally here and wow are they AMAZING. Even better is we can now interactively participate in almost all of the FUN events either ONLINE with your friends or OFFLINE. There are online leaderboards so you can compare your records, performances and stats with your friends. You can also see who has won the most medals. If you have 4 controllers, offline mode allows 4 players while A MASSIVE 8 players online. There are 30 EVENTS to choose from by far the most any Olympic or Track and Field game has ever offered. Each event has it's own controls, own required skill and you have to use the full amount of brain power to be master every single event, although being the best at 1 event will mean you can gloat to your friend as you sit top of the leaderboards.I have composed a list of all the events starting with the most standard then the most entertaining and diverse:Track and field:100m (men only)110m hurdles (men only)200m (men only)400mDiscus throw (men only)High jumpJavelin throw (men only)Long jump (men only)Shot put (men only)Triple jump (men only)Random Sports:Beach volleyball (women only)[N 2]Canoe slalom - K1 Kayak (men only)Cycling - Keirin (men only)[N 2]Rowing - Single sculls (men only)[N 2]Table tennis (men only)Weightlifting over 105kg (men only)Archery:IndividualTeamAquatics:3m springboard diving3m synchronised springboard diving[N 2][N 1]10m platform diving10m synchronised platform diving[N 2][N 1]Swimming - 50m freestyleSwimming - 100m backstrokeSwimming - 100m breaststrokeSwimming - 100m butterflySwimming - 100m freestyleGymnastics:Trampoline (men only)[N 2]VaultShooting:25 metre rapid fire pistol (men only)Skeet shootingThe game is a must have. Online/Party games are usually reserved only for the Nintendo Wii but now Xbox, PS3 and PC owners can all have the most fun EVER with this ambitious game. I personally think the Beach Volleyball and Table Tennis could easily have been seperate games so the money for value here is astounding.RATING - A+ - TRIPLE STAR RATING

FUN is the word I'd use to sum this game up. NO game is perfect and neither is this, but it's good all round fun and for that it deserves a good overall rating.I hate just button mashing for sporty stuff but the controls and variations in this are nicely done - very simple to pick up and play right away - but not always so easy to master even with practise. But sure enough, if you do practise, you learn more and more about the marginal things you can do to excel at the harder events and eventually break a world record - and being able to break a world record is something you'll need to aim towards if you plan on playing the game online against other people and actually want to get a medal.Playing against people online is where it's at, and although you do encounter ninjas who are just amazing at every event, if you do practise and put in the effort and learn the events you can certainly be in with a chance of a medal if you do good in the moment. The National Pride online leaderboard is pretty cool as then the medals you earn for whoever you're representing online all count towards that, so getting a medal means more. With a little more depth and scope, and with better online stats to record and remember the highlights of what you've done, this game could have been absolutely awesome and had a lot more longevity. But overall it is still a very cool game - good looking, fun to play, and challenging if you plan on winning gold online.

I bought this today and I reckon playing as 2-4 players will be more fun than just on your ownThere are some really good events like the swimming and the track events ....I managed to get a bronze on the men's kierin (cycling) in medium level and about six 4th places after one day.I'm gonna need practice in the volleyball ,table tennis, canoeing and gymnastics as I'm hopeless at them. All in all its a fairly decent game but no pole vaulting which is a shock actually .....Once you've got the rhythm of the buttons in tuturial lesson before each event it should come easierOn easy level I managed 8 gold medals and a silver and two Olympic recordsSo id say start on easy first just to get used to thecontrols then work your way upI'm still loving the archery eventNot played a track and field game for about 8 -10 years ......last one I played had fencing on and only had about 23 events I think including horse jumping too ......about 6 of us had fun playing that on ps2.Obviously you can't have every event on here as some would take hours to complete but 50 would have been nice with added ones like ...judo,fencing,pole vault, show jumping and the bike race that goes round a tiny course shaped like a letter M that lasts about 30 seconds those ones would be great too ........Now I gotta get back and practice some moreBuy this and play with your mates ......its a pretty decent game well worth the 14.99 I payed for it

I am a big fan of the Olympics and bought this based on reviews. I was hoping though that it wasn't just a passing craze and a over hyped game. I was thankfully wrong. The graphics for a start are comfortably better than Beijing 2008 and seeks to have a sharpness the previous game lacked. Combine that with a crowd that genuinely seems excited and you have yourself a believable atmosphere. Even the commentators sound elated when a record is broken, and they favour the home athletes just enough to make it really seem like London.A good selection of events overall, with archery and diving events added into the selection, and a few Track and Field and lots of Gymnastics events omitted.Eight different diving events and three gymnastics though, that is a bit confusing.Unfortunately there are a few glitches I have discovered. On the medal ceremonies, they put silver and bronze in the wrong place and the gold and bronze flags are of identical heights. Also, on the replays for the swimming, the athletes are ridiculously pixally, with about ten large cubes making up an athletes body. As well, I got 3rd 15 times in a row in the Keirin in hard difficulty which surely isn't right.Edit...The Keirin event isn't a glitch as I have finally conquered it and I have ended up ignoring the remaining glitches as the game itself is amazing. PlayStation Move isn't brilliant but it entertained me for a while.

Most of the events are easy to learn, but difficult to master. I find myself playing this game a lot more than I did with Beijing 2008, which in my opinion was more difficult. I think the graphics were better in Beijing, but my biggest disappointment is the realism (or lack of) with the scoring system. Only 36 nations compete, and it's always roughly the same 8 nations competing in each final. With only 2 events allowed per day, you soon find 2 nations pulling way ahead of the pack, while the remaining 34 nations finish the Games with only 2 or 3 medals, it takes away a lot of the sense of competition. There should be an option to select the number of events played each day,up to 10 would make the medal table look a bit more realistic. On the positive side, there's a good selection of events and each one feels very different which gives the overall game more longevity. There isn't very much 'button-bashing' which I used to hate in these type of games. This version is more about timing your button presses rather than bashing away until you break the controller. It's a good game and I would recommend it to anyone. Maybe the price will drop after the real Games have ended.

Bought this game in the hypes of the Olympics! I thought I would have regretted buying a game like this as it's just one of those games you think you will get bored of and just resell it later for a cheaper price, but that wasn't the case for me. Sega did a really good job on the graphics they made the gameplay allot more efficient as it's not a finger basher, the controls feels a bit more like how it should be. Although it takes some practice to master some events as it should be but once you get a hang of things the game becomes allot more fun. I love all 45 events that are included but I feel Sega could have added a few more such as fencing, badminton or equestrian.Sega could have put their researchers to more use and find out about actual athletes that could be contending the games, because as an Olympic follower I know some of the athletes names and I did not recognise any of the names I competed with in the game and looked like I was playing against made up names. But with the team customizer you can change the names and looks and it will give you that little realism feel. Overall it's a great game online is good, plenty of people to compete against!

Firstly, as someone who is a blind user of playstation 3 and enjoys games with good audio presentation, this one is really quite good. Commentary is very expressive and enthusiastic, biased to us in Britain of course. I liked it.Beijing 2008 didn't have a good presentation at least from the audio perspective and the events were very similar to play, button bash, press Square at the right time etc. This game is entirely different, using rhythm and timing more than speed alone. For instance, the 100 M requires that you press the X button on PS3 at a specific tempo. A note for VI users, if you are going over the tapping speed, the controller vibrates. Indeed, there are many audio cues within the game,a specific sound when the speed gets locked for track events being an example.seriously, this game is really worth the time. The event selection is good enough that you can have a bit of fun, plus it's quick enough to play for a half-hour or so. Considering it's an olympic cash in, it's something to behold. Really impressed with the sound design, especially in 5.1 Give it a try.

I find it really sad that games like this go out of style simply because they've got a perceived shelf-life connected to the event they're about. With the new 2016 Olympic Games video games come through thick and fast, it was my eagle-eyed husband who spotted this one for sale and ordered it.There's a whole range of Olympic events to test yourself at in this games, including: swimming, javelin, hurdles, cycling ... almost everything they had at the Olympics. And you can compete with family and friends too. It's kept us all entertained for days. Playing video games can be such an insular activity, but not this one, this has had the whole family jumping, cheering or trying to outdo each other, and it's a blast! Our children are now inviting their friends round to take part in the fun. It's such a hoot. A great, inclusive family game.

Every four years as the Olympics rolls around along with it comes another video game. The excitement, content and potential are there but finally on this occasion the resulting game comes across as more than mediocre. With more sports than ever before and much less controller ruining button bashing, this game is great fun whether you are playing through Olympic games mode on your own, fighting for the country online or where it's best playing along with a group of friends. All the favourite venues are there in better quality than Beijing and while the Kinect compatibility seems like an after thought, its worth having. Overall, don't take it too seriously and head on down for some good Olympic fun.

I'm not bothered about negative reviews on this game, this is much better than Beijing 2008. You don't get blisters from rapidly moving the analog sticks, this has given the game already 3 stars. There are not as many events as Beijing but It doesn't matter because there are newer events as well, which are enjoyable. It is fun online as well playing with friends because it is unpredictable who will win. I recommend this game because 10x better than Beijing 2008. So that's why I give it 5 stars.

This game is as good as I will to be. I like playing it with my dad and mostly beating him at mostly all the sports! The different challenges are fun to do and see if you can get all the stars. The actual games are easy to play; the controls are simple etc. I can't really comment of the graffics of the game because my TV is really bad (the bit sticking out the back is MASSIVE) but in my opinion the graffics must be good if they look ok on my TV. So overall a game better played together.

11.2.2017

Olympic video games are known for being frustrating button pushing disaaters. This game introduces a whole new control system, focusing more on timing and angles instead. The graphics are very good, but the commentary is a bit repetitive. A nice thing they added was playing the winners national anthem while on the medal podium after each competition. I bought it for £5 with shipping included and its absolutely worth it If u are a fan of the olympics!

7.11.2012

This is the sort of game that excels on the Kinect, it's really good for playing multi player games with friends and family as it's quite easy to pick up the events. It reminds me a little bit of when Wii sports first came out.If you don't have Kinect then I would only give this game 2 or 3 stars as playing the games with a controller becomes boring quite quickly and there isn't much to the game other than maybe trying to get world records.
