The opening notes remind of what I think is another beautiful fragrance, Versace's The Dreamer though with wearing, these two depart rather rapidly, the L'Occitan settling into a cool and steady base about 8 hours later. For an eau de toilette, this has excellent longevity, something I appreciate every time I plunk down this much money for a bottle. The perfumer's skill is easily apparent here. The smell itself isn't cloying though slightly powdery. Some may think, wrongly as it turns out, it's a dated fragrance because of that, remembering (Great?)Grandma's lavender-heavy powder puffs. Nonsense, you will get compliments from anyone who stands close enough to appreciate it.I have found it's a great all-around fragrance and can be easily worn regardless of occasion and weather.I believe men will like the steady woodiness of its middle notes and what a change from the citrus bombs that have flooded the market of men's perfumes. Women will also like its present, but subtle floweriness—I hope—that suffuses L'Occitan. But, you protest, this is a men's perfume! Nonsense, I say again. To quote Luca Turin, adults wear what they like whatever the marketing labels push.Of course I'm a fan of the bottle and label design as well. It harkens back to perfumery's alchemical past with that wonderful off-brown and old-timey label. The great spray design is even so that you cannot overspray in one press. I'm giving it four stars because while it's no Holy Grail fragrance, but it is very, very good.

L'Occitan, upon initial spray, smells very fresh and it is heavily fresh (not dried) lavender for a few moments until it meets your skin.At that moment, the lavender smells less like a sachet or soap and definitely more of a soapy, fresh, and very slightly rosemary, minty without being pepperminty. It's like the coolness of wintergreen without the medicinal smell. After wearing it for awhile, as you go about your day, the soapy freshness fades and leaves behind the fragrance of warm wood and a little hint of cool air. It reminds me of being near the beach, with a fire going, on a brisk afternoon, with a good, old book.I like that this is the sort of fragrance that needs the warmth of skin and physical closeness to really enjoy.I would love this on a man,but it can work just as well on a woman (and as a fragrance for one's home. I sprayed a bit on my duvet and cover. So good.)

I generally like L'Occitane's lotions and creams but I'm on the fence regarding their perfumes and colognes. Scents are a matter of personal taste, so ordering bottles online without sampling them first is always chancy.I thought of these caveats when I ordered L'Occitan. It's geared toward men but I've borrowed my husband's cologne now and then when I really liked the scent.Sadly, this isn't one of them. Upon giving myself a sprayful of the stuff, I didn't like it. The alcohol smell is strong and fades into a strong nutmeg scent. Lavendar is listed as an ingredient but I didn't smell it at all.My husband loved this scent but I did not. This is a quality product but I would definitely recommend it for men only. The other positive is that the spray will last a long time, given that it's so strong that one or two sprays lasted me for hours.

Thumbs up for this cologne. My wife likes it and that is the only thing that matters. But two other attributes also make it a winner. First, I hate those really strong, overpowering colognes that smell cloying and make my eyes water. This is a lighter fragrance that doesn't have people raising their eyebrows wondering if you forgot to take bath because you've gone overboard with cologne and are trying to cover it up.Second, that it's natural and the lavender undertones make it a cologne that even I will wear, as I tend to avoid these types of products. An unqualified recommendation from this user.

I am not a big fragrance product fan - I buy unscented deodorant and always try to use bath products that have mild fragrances. This particular product is one I really like. It has a very nice, subtle, pleasant fragrance to my nose and my wife agrees. In fact, as some others have pointed out, this could easily be a unisex product. And, I think my wife will probably use it as much as I do. In any event, if the price point is right for your purpose, I think this would make a very nice gift for that male graduate or birthday or whatever occasion you need to recognize and have no idea what to get.

I have to credit Amazon for introducing me to L'Occitane L'OCCITAN, but it is definitely something I have been sharing with other guys ever since I discovered it.What makes L'Occitane L'OCCITAN so great for the everyday guy is that you can spray it on right after you get your shower and you are ready for your day. It's clean scent stays with you, and it's something that's not too overpowering for you or people around you.Maybe not the easiest thing for everyday guys like me to pronounce (smile), L'Occitane L'OCCITAN is something we can use on a daily basis and feel good doing so.

This is a different type of men's cologne. It's got a very light natural smell that isn't too heavy or too familiar. It smells fresh and clean and lasts a long time. Lots of fragrances for men are either similar or too heavy scented but this one seems perfect and isn't not too overpowering. It's got a nice lavender smell with woodsy undertones. This bottle will also last a long time. It's expensive but it will last and the fragrance is unique enough to make it special. The bottle is great and the sprayer makes it easy to apply.

I tend to not like colognes of any kind but I really liked how this one smelled on my husband. It was a refreshing soft lavender aroma. It reminded me of the outside. I sprayed the cologne in the air first just to make sure both of us would like it. It was very pleasant. My husband used it just before going to church and he was stopped a couple of time by women asking him what cologne he had on.My husband highly recommends this cologne as it smells nice even after a few hours.

My husband put this on before we walked to church this morning. He was walking in front of me with the kids and I realized I was walking right behind him, just so I could catch an extra sniff. It smells so wonderful I had to put some on myself after we got home. Most men's fragrances smell like some hyper-chemical version of soap but not this, it smells like a sunny day with a nice breeze, laying on a blanket watching the clouds go by. Totally amazing.

My coworkers and friends all seem to love this scent. It is masculine (woodsy) but still soft (lavender). I find the scent of lavender very relaxing and has a calming effect. A few sprays will last me most of the day. L'Occitane really makes amazing stuff, most of which my wife uses. I would buy this scent again when it's finished. Try to sample this scent first at a L'Occitane store or counter as smells can be very subjective.

I love the clean fresh scent of this cologne. If you don't like lavender, you probably won't like it, but if you do, I think you will be pleased. I tried it around several other people and even though it doesn't smell exactly like pure lavender, those who told me before hand that they disliked the smell of fresh lavender, didn't care for it, but those who do loved it. The scent also lasts.

I don't go in for heavy synthetic smelling colognes, which is why L'Occitane Eau De Toilette was a bit refreshing for me. It's masculine without smelling a burning tire fire. The scent is light - you are not going to anger people in the elevator by destroying their sinuses. It is neither musky nor floral. It's a nice, slightly woodsy scent.I like it and wear it every day now.

Bought this for my husband for a Christmas present because I loved the smell. Its very "woodsy" with peppery undertones. Definitely wears long on his jackets which I like. Packaging is nice. My only con for this is its not available in any smaller size so make sure you love the smell before purchasing! Also bummer the size makes it difficult for traveling.

This reminds me of the old Herbissimo line of men's fragrance by Dana. It's a fresh, natural, manly fragrance that makes an impression without being pretentious or overpowering. He may take your breath away, know it's not this fragrance doing it, it's all him. This fragrance simply enhances the essence of him.

Slightly astringent, clean, fresh, citrusy scent that works for men or women. It wasn't particularly long-lasting, but I liked the crisp, barely floral bouquet. As with any fragrance, it will smell different on everyone. So, the only way to know if it's for you is to try it.
