Too many reviews read like advertising pamphlets, I have been reviewing for a long time and have resolved to write honest reviews, the good the bad and the ugly as appropriate.I write my reviews based on personal experiences gleaned as a result of decades of experiences in a professional occupation, as aconsumer, a property owner and raising a family. When I first bought this Safety gate through Amazon it was being sold at a charge of £20.00 as a prime item. August 18 increased to £27.95Prime items are sold with a promise of next day delivery to amazon prime membersYou cannot rely on the next day delivery promise. There is no reference as to what the additional, if any, postal charge will be applied to non amazon prime members. The Gate was delivery in a timely fashion in the manufacturers cardboard box which was easily opened.NOTE, The minimum size stated is the absolute minimum with NO way to install the gate unless you have a method of widening. (removal of timer plaster or whatever)There is an instruction pamphlet in the box which is next to useless.Aside from the gate there are also four bolts and nuts which simply push into the four our side corners. This is the design failure as compared to other baby gates that I have used. I currently have four in my home for use with a combinationof restricting access to dogs and in regard to my grand daughters play room upstairs. You have to use a spanner (a poor quality lightweight spanner is supplied) to tighten the gate against restraining door frame or whatever where the gate is located. A turn wheel would be much easier in addition to the tightening nut.The press in and lift latch requires the use of both hands. It is possible that practice will enable the latch mechanism to be manipulated by one hand. There is also a small attachment that can be affixed to the floor level bar to strengthen ? stabilise the gate when closed. The problem with this is that the gate cannot be opened if both sides are engaged even when the top latch is undone. You can set it up in such a way that the gate can only be opened in one direction, inward or outward depending on what you want.Overall, when I bought this (30/04/2017) at a cost of £20.00 delivered as I am a prime member it represents good value. It is well made. 01/08/18 increased to £27.95

Important: This gate is not supposed to be used at the top of the stairs. This gate allows us to leave the door to our living (play) room open while preventing our baby from exiting. The gate was easy to install and the mechanisms works well. Our 3-year-old cannot open (yet) either. Although it doesn't require screws, it has these sticky pads which it instructs you to stick to the wall. We live in a rented house, thus I just stuck the pad to the plastic side and left the paper on the side that contact the wall. By tightening the screws (with the included little spanner), the gate is a snug fit in the door and no one has escaped yet.The door can also still close with the gate intactI wouldn't trust it at the top of the stairs and neither do the manufacturers. There are multiple pictures everywhere that warn not to use at the top of the stairs. It's too bad because the gate works well and it would be very useful if it could be reliably used at the top of the stairs. It can be used at the bottom of the stairs safely.I also thought when I bought it that we could use one gate and move it around. For this gate, that would be quite annoying because you'd have to get the spanner out each time. Thus, we have decided to leave in place and order another gate if we need it elsewhere. Or perhaps find another model that is more easily transported. Also, I bought these "wall protectors" to use with the gate. However, they are enormous and cannot be used in the door frame. Hopefully the thin foam pads will protect the door frame from the pressure of the plastic and metal parts.

This is a very good gate. I'd sent back another gate because to get the little red marker to disappear showing it was at a safe tension you had to tighten it so much that my wife couldn't open the gate! This one has a good, tamper proof latch that you can just about open with one hand (it's not quite as easy as it looks in the Lindam video!). If you have a very light sleeper, the latch does click as it engages; you can prevent it with your fingers in the right place. The reason for four stars is twofold. There are three different minimum measurements published across the description page, the box and the instructions. By one of them (I can't remember which)I could have got the gate in the middle of the doorframe which would have let me close the door, but in reality it isn't narrow enough. It still fits the doorframe, but it's in the space for the door closure so your door stays open. My joiner told me the frames were standard size. This is largely down to the fact that the four attachments have a plastic cup which you stick to the door frame, so if you wanted to move the gate around the house, or take it with you to grandparents for example, you'd need to get more of the plastic cups and sticky backing. It was good enough that I bought a second one though, and would buy it again. The little lug that stops the gate opening one way or the other at the base is was also of a different size in the two gates, and the second one would not go that far into the housing, which doesn't suggest the finest quality.

Overall I thought this was a good gate when I'd fitted it. It took only 5-10 mins to understand, fit, and more importantly test & fine tune the pressure pads. Despite the description mentioning this is pressure fit, they recommended you screw & glue (!) the 4 cups to the wall if using this gate on stairs (which 99% of people probably will). In which case why not just buy a screw-attached gate, not a pressure fit, because surely you wanted to avoid redecorating after?? However, I found that at the bottom of the stairs (gap 79cm) it was so solid, it didn't justify the cups (I pulled & pushed really hard and it didn't move at all, so I doubt a 1-4 year old could move it!).The gap at the top of our stairs is 82cm (the quoted maximum for this gate, without extensions), and the screw rods tilt a bit at full stretch, so I will look to fit the wall cups there (which give you an extra 3-5mm on each side), and if it's still not solid enough for me I'll look at the extensions or a wooden baton for the wall. Even so I would struggle to pull/push it over as it stands now. We bought 2 gates, on 1 of them the handle has immediately become stiffer within a day, as others have found. It looks to be because the rod it's attached to can flex and put pressure on the inside of the plastic handle. I'm going to try some grease & a bit of jiggling of the rod to see if it helps (shouldn't have to I know, but otherwise I really like these gates).

If you are planning to use this in a narrow doorframe then it's a good gate. However, it's not entirely pressure-fit.I live in a rented house and don't want to mark the wall and banisters - hence the fact I wanted a pressure fit gate. However, practically the first line of the instruction booklet says that if the gate is to be used at the bottom of a flight of stairs then you *must* fit some little plastic cups onto the wall/frame/banister on either side. These are secured by an adhesive pad that will mark wooden surfaces and pull away paint when it is removed - for me that is even worse than drilling a few small holes into the wall and entirely defeats the purpose of getting a pressure fit gate. With the cups fitted the gate is less secure than if it were screwed to the wall, and you get none of the damage-free benefit of a pressure gate. That being said, the gate fits pretty securely without the plastic cups and I suspect they are provided just as a bit of back-covering by the manufacturer. For my one year old, I have no qualms about using this as a pressure fit gate for the bottom of the stairs, but it's something I'll re-asses as he gets a bit older. The extensions are expensive relative to the cost of the gate, but not outrageous if you only need one. You need to factor that into the cost.

The gate itself is great - we bought it as a dog gate and it works well. It is sturdy and relatively easy to open. We were not sure how well it would stay in position (with it being pressure-fitting) but it has been in place for about 6 weeks now and seems to be doing well. However, we had to buy an extension (to make the gate fit into our doorway) and this was a nightmare! The instructions showed someone easily sliding a piece of plastic out of the original gate, so that the extension could slot into the hole - but we could not get the piece of plastic out! We ended up damaging the gate trying to get the plastic out, so we returned it. The replacement gate arrived - and we had exactly the same problem! We couldn't believe it! We phoned the Lindam customer services who said that if we could get the plastic out in anyway possible, then she would send us a replacement part for free (as we needed the plastic piece in tact to fit the extenstion correctly). In the end my dad managed to get the piece out using a drill, and once the replacement part arrived then the gate and extension were easy to fit. I am just hoping that we never need to take the extension off!!In summary - good gate and does the job well, but fitting an extension is not necessarily as easy as the instructions make it look!

Had this gate for quite a few months now.I have it at the top of the stairs but not directly and off to the side.Baby has no chance at getting through and won't beable to open it till she can squeeze the buttons in togeather. There's two stoppers on the bottom which I only use so the door will open one way. While overall I'm happy with it there's a couple of things I'm not to happy about. There's supposed to plastic/foam things to go between the wall and the metel bits that are tightened to secure it in.Despit measuring I couldn't fit it in with them on aswell. Not like my landing is anything special, needs decorating anyway so I'm not botherd about the walls. But the thing that makes me worry the most about it is the locking mechanism. When I push the buttons in to open the get they get stuck in.Sometimes I have to keep pushing them and eventually they'll spring back out so I can lock the gate. Now my natural response is to rattle it as I'm going to make sure it's locked. Some oil may work, but their shouldn't be a problem like this on a baby gate to begin with. ?But once it's locked, it's locked well. ??

We bought this as our daughter has discovered the stairs and is becoming more adventurous. It took minutes to install and as you don't have to drill, shouldn't leave marks on the walls. You stick a soft pad to the wall which sticks to the bits that hold the gate in place.Everything is tightened with a tool that comes with the gate and the pressure keeps it in place. Our little one can't move the fate - through no lack of trying. This particular unit is very easy to.open. You have to pull a lock back and lift the gate to open. It's can be done with one hand. The gate we have elsewhere usually requires two hands, which can be a pain. This unit also has a sure shut function. The door basically closes when not held. It's ideal as it will allow you to forget to close of you're in a rush. Our only issue was that it makes a click noise when locked back in place, which could wake a sleeping baby. You can manually close it - it's much quieter. All in all, I would definitely reccomend. It's the safest gate we've seen, is easy to set up and use and isn't really an eye sore.

Looked at the reviews for this product and was a little worried about the one handed lock and the security of it as is not a screw in gate. But was such a great deal and desperately needed to get something as my daughter (22 months) has started to climb all over the place and frequently tries to go up and down the stairs by herself. However once I got it, it has definitely served it's purpose very well. The one handed lock works, you might have to get used to it but i have been able to use it to open the gate while carrying my sleeping daughter. The other worry was how secure the gate might be while not being screwed into the wall, but it has been working very well; even with me yanking on it trying to climb over without letting my daughter notice that I've left her in her room playing with the gate closed. All in all a great bargain on a great product. The adjustable sides really helped to put in between wonky door frame. door swinging lock at bottom helps it from swinging the wrong way.

Fantastic! This baby gate is just so easy to install, so much better than drilling holes everywhere or trying to find a screwdriver. Everything you need is included in the package, all you may need is a pencil to mark out where you need to apply the adhesive padding. I purchased this gate to stop my pets from running riot around my house and destroying all of my furniture, it works really well although I wish I'd got one slightly taller to stop one of my dogs from jumping over the gate. It's just a blessing really not to have to worry bout leaving one room whilst my pets destroy another. I've since purchased another two of these because they are just so simple to install and use,I particulary like the way that the gate opens on either side as well as swinging back and closing on its own. I was a bit worried that my pets may get squashed by the automatic closing gate but it closes a lot more gently than it looks as well as stopping when it feels the slightest bit of pressure. Lovely!

Brilliant well made product. I bought this to stop my young labrador thinking that my bed was his bed, so I really didn't want something that looked like a child gate in brilliant white and covered in plastic, especially as it is likely to be up for some time. This Lindam Deco gate ticked all of those boxes. It's very solid and well made and blends in well with its surroundings (mostly oak and grey) and is something that I won't mind looking at for the next few years. It went up relatively easily but I did make the mistake of cutting the gate tie before fixing (it swings making fixing harder) and I removed the backing from the sticky pads too early - if they touch anything they stick. If I was doing it again the sticky pad backings would stay in place until I had marked where they were going. The other very BIG plus with this gate is the simple one handed opening and closing which makes life easier if you are carrying anything. All in all this is an excellent product.

Good product in reasonable price. I have been using for over one month now. Initially the lock was a bit stiff and rough on the thumb but it has loosened up since so now opens smoothly. Easy to fit and is so far very securely in place and does not look likely to need tightning anytime soon which was a major problem with the sureshut lindam gate which this replaced. One inconvenient bit is that the gate needs to be pulled up with some strength to open which is difficult to do with baby in hand. An unexpected feature is that it is a self closing gate and im not sure if this is a plus or a minus. On the one hand you dont have to shut it behind you so it eliminates the possibility of the gate beingleft open accidentally but also as it closes with a hard snap you need to be careful that little fingers are nowhere near the lock when opening and closing else it can be dangerous.

I purchased this product for my stairs along with the 7 cm extension and it has been great. Very easy to install and so far has stayed up, unlike a stair gate I had been given by a relative which kept falling off and was more of a danger than the stairs. For the amount of stairs in my house I had to buy 4 of them and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone else.Best try to hide how you open it though as our smart little cookie (2 year old) was trying to open the gate, so we keep trying to tell him only mummy & daddy can open the gate and then trying to hide how it's done. Luckily he didn't realise you had to press both sides whilst lifting the lever. One of the gates must have had a bump however as it was more difficult to add the extension to than the other 3,but luckily I didn't install this one first or my review might have been different.

The big selling point for us is that you can open these with one hand and just swing it shut (listening for the "click"!). Perfect for when you are carrying something up or down the stairs. It is a fantastic stair gate - we have 3 of them now. We have a new oak staircase and so didn't want one of those ugly white stairgates that would detract from it. These are of a very attractive design (as attractive as a stairgate can be anyway!).As mentioned above you can easily open one handed once you've got the knack of it, but my 3.5 year old still hasn't mastered it and some adult friends do struggle without instruction! A friends newly turned 5 year old did manage to work it out by himself, but by that age you can hopefully reason with them a little and get them to always close the gate behind them to protect younger siblings.

We chose this gate as it was recomended by WHICH? as a top buy gate that had passed all the safety tests. They took a while to be delivered but this was communicated before purchase. They are very easy to fit, the latch is quite simple to use, but it is also quite difficult to use one handed... so if your holding something and only have one hand free it can take some time to open. We have had them for a few months and have the 'nack' so its not an issue for us anymore. My only concern is what will happen to the paint on the wall and woodwork once we remove the location cups from the walls, they are held in place with double sided sticky foam. They are great for holding the gate in place, and out baby has given them a good test.Overall happy and the price is competitive.
