Life saver as swarms of black flies descended upon us on a river trip in Canada. Everybody was eaten alive but I had this head net in my pocket and wore it when needed. They were always very active and aggressive for around 2 hours before dark. I was teased a lot when wearing this for looking like a bee keeper and certainly you do look like a complete twit wearing this but the black flies devoured everybody and they cannot penetrate thicker skin so they always go for face, scalp, eyelids, ears, neck, hands and feet. I wore the head net when I saw them coming and escaped with just 1 or 2 bites on my feet whereas everybody else had dozens of nasty bleeding bites to their faces and necks and 2people got eyelid bites which caused the eye to swell up until it was completely closed in like a boxer who had taken a blow to the eye. Nasty. I was very glad that I purchased this item as a precautionary measure. It takes up no space or weight and works best worn over a baseball cap or floppy wide brimmed hat eg Tilley.

Unlike repellents this work 100% of the time. A definite must have for any late summer and autumn trips in Scotland. Works best when paired with a hat and can go under it but best worn over so the brim holds it away from your face. Worn in combination with my tilly it keeps me shady and stops the net getting in my eyes or mouth. I have also worn it on exercise and is actually just as if not more effective than camo cream which was a pleasant surprise on top of keeping bugs off when sitting around in the woods. The bag it comes in also has a belt loop so it attaches to a rucksack or belt easily so you can be sure to have it when you need it.If you wear it a lot it is better to tie it straight on to a hat or onto the collar of your jacket so you don't lost it and can take it on and off quickly.

Just back from an August expedition on the tundra of Hudson Bay, and this net was almost literally a lifesaver. The number of biting insects, including the fearsome blackfly, would have made the experience Purgatory: however, with this net over my broad-brimmed hat I was able to enjoy the experience undisturbed. Others in my party were not so lucky. The mesh is not too distracting, and one soon gets used to focusing beyond the mesh. The net is long enough to tuck into the neck of a coat or upper garment - essential to stop critters finding their way inside! And the net packs up very small, and fits easily in a pocket. An essential travel companion.

Not used this around lochs yet so can't comment on its effectiveness but it is a superfine head net meaning the holes are so small I could not see a midge getting through this. Size is perfect for me. Not tight and you could wear a cap underneath to keep the net from touching you. The reason I haven't given it 5 stars is due to it being dark black making it quite dark when you wear it. This isn't a problem in the daylight but at dusk vision starts to get a bit too limited. Maybe a grey one would be an idea?

Great product, it saved me from the infamous Scottish midges. I did use it constantly when I was near a lake or a really wet area, where the clouds of midges kept surrounding me, this net avoided them biting me in the face and neck and I was well grateful. It is true that it darkens a little the view I guess that is the price you have to pay to be save from the midges however I don't think is an issue as it does not darken the view more than if you were wearing a pair of sunglasses.

This head net is brilliant. It certainly helps in the battle against the Scottish west coast midge. It covers the whole head, neck and some of the chest area. I don't like getting bitten on my face or neck, and this head net certainly stops that happening. I can now go in my garden in the Highlands and be among the midges and not get bitten on my face and neck thanks to this product. Excellent.

My girlfriend moaned when I bought her one of these before our trip to the highlands. I insisted she took it, and I'll be honest, thank god she did. This did the trick against the midges and by the end of the evening, with everyone at the campsite sat around a fire with one of these it looked like the AGM of Assassin's Anonymous.Get one, just in case.

Bought for my wife, who gets bitten by any flying bugs and then has nasty swellings wherever she's bitten, as we were holidaying on West coast of Scotland in July. Very good delivery service and it's clear that the Head Net would do the job (even if it's not the height of fashion!) but, thankfully, we saw no midges this time.

The hoods are good, being black the visibility is so much better than the green ones I purchased locally. A slight improvement for us would be to have the neck opening elasticated, which is why four stars, though I can appreciate if you wanted the hoods to fit outside a heavy jacket then this would be an advantage.

Bit tricky to get back into it's stuff sack, but it does what it says and is great if, like me, your life is plagued by midges and mozzies when you're out and about. Although I'll only use it on my own, in the middle of nowhere, mainly because you look like a complete nutter in it. But yeah, it works well.

Trip was in midgie infested area. Without these it would have been a nightmare. Good coverage without feeling you were drowning in material. Good visibility. Small pack size great for walkers. Comes in convenient draw pull bag with good mechanism....you can acess quickly with cold/ wet hands. Great value

Friends say having me around is better than any insect repellent on the market - they just love me! This works well - four stars only because I feel daft wearing it but then that applies to every similar product out there, Very light and small pack size - worthwhile addition to anyone's pack.

I bought this as I have a large head and guessed that the combined hat and net would not be big enough. Wife has got that (and it is great) but it wouldn't have fitted me. LIke the packing (as nice and small).

Speedy delivery.Item was as described. It gives excellent coverage for head, face and neck. The picture on advert makes the item appear far more bulky than it is.It is so easy to pack in a bag or pocket. Thanks
