Received my LifeStraw Go 2-stage filtration bottle today. Looks well made. I had read some negative comments on here so thought I would give my thoughts - I prepared it as per instructions and used it on tap water to test it:- The lid seals well on the bottle with no leaks- The mouthpiece doesn't leak when closed - however, water can get through the mouthpiece if it is not closed shut - when I turned the bottle upside down with the mouthpiece open there was a constant dripping of water and so it's important the mouthpiece is fully closed when in a bag - I don't see this any different to other bottles of this type though- I found the water flowed very easily on drinking - hardly any more effort than a normal drinking bottle - however, the mouthpiece does come with a clear protective (hygiene) thin plastic sleeve on it over the silicone (like for example mouthwash often has over the cap) - it must be removed - this protective plastic actually has a small hole in it - I inadvertently tried the bottle without removing it because there is nothing in the instructions about it and it's not immediately obvious that this plastic sleeve should be/can be removed (being clear shrink wrapped film - I wonder if others who found it difficult to get water through left this in place?- The taste of the water was no worse - in fact I would say better - than the fresh water straight from my tap I tested it with - absolutely no other residual tasteLooking forward to trying it out for real on my next big hill walk

I absolutely needed this. I volunteered to chaperone a camping trip for my son's class. We went to Starved Rock State Park, which is southwest of Chicago. It's gorgeous—deep canyons, waterfalls, rivers. I highly recommend it. It was also in the mid 80s, and on our second day we hiked for 7 miles over the course of about 5 hours. And I ran out of water several times. I just brought the one bottle with me, with the plan of re-filling it if I ran out. And I did 3 times, so I re-filled it at some of the water falls. I have no idea what the quality of the water was there, but I wasn't going to drink from an untreated source.I'm 3 days removed from doing it and haven't had any ill effects (though I'll update the review if I do happen to get sick),so it seems to have done its job. The first time I filled the bottle, I did it from the water pooling under the water fall and it was pretty murky. What came out of the straw was clear and tasted fine. I had zero concerns with it.If I hadn't had it with me, I would've needed to carry at least an extra 2.5L of water to get me through the trip. This was a perfect replacement so I could travel lighter but still not worry about dehydration.Unlike some of the other reviewers, I had no issues with leaks—I was carrying it on a carabiner on my hip, and at night I even tipped it to the side in my tent more than once and discovered it sideways a few hours later. Absolutely nothing came out.Definitely recommended.

I used this water bottle during my trip to Bali. I did not put tap water in the bottle. I only put filtered water in the bottle, and I did not have any stomach problems (until the last night but I am 99% sure it was the food I ate). However, my husband did not use this bottle and just drank the filtered water straight from his nalgene and had mild to moderate stomach problems almost our whole trip.Pros:Helps filter water, although I would not use it on tap water because it may not remove viruses from the water.Easy to drink fromEasy to fillClip that makes it convenient to clip to a bag.Eco friendly compared to buying bottled water.ConsIt doesn't filter viruses so I did not trust it with all waterLeaks really bad.It leaks from the mouthpiece sometimes, but I couldn't figure out why or how to predict when that would happen. I think when you invert the bottle while it's closed and then open it, the pressure inside the bottle makes water come out of the mouth piece. If I was careful to keep it upright, even when it was closed, it didn't seem to leak.Mouthpiece is exposed, which did not feel hygienic.Does not hold much water.Overall I was happy with this product, but I would have been much happier if it didn't leak and the mouthpiece was more protected. My husband was regretful that he didn't buy one before our trip and started using mine towards the end of our trip and noticed his stomach problems improved.

This latest version is very substantially well made;has a solid bottle, cap , and comes with a well made bottle neck grip with lanyard and small carabiner.(as well as the separate/ replaceable internal filter tube and charcoal taste block)Pro this hold a good amount of water, the (anti) that is it can Obviously be a little heavy when full.... but the entire cap screws off so very quick and easy to fill.I cant vouch for the scientific claims regarding filtering, though have no reason to doubt them.. Have so far only used with 'tap' water to great effect.Despite some reviews (?), I found the straw Easy to use - it does Clearly say to blow back after use to clear the filter. The taste if fine, the charcoal filter doing a great job as well. The Filter(S) both have very high life cycle ratings; but like any filter this depends on correct use (and abuse!) but these are far higher than similar products.there are NO 'leaking' issues a few reviews have posted - maybe they were fake or incorrectly used? This is a HIGHLY trusted brand (not some cheap Chinese copy rip off- which i would NEVER trust especially in these situations).Certainly worth the slight premium for the quality and assurance tested and proven product.Summary Well made with good capacity; easy to put in bag/carry/lanyard/clip.WOULD RECOMMEND.

Nice size, but heavy when filled and somewhat difficult to drink from. Like trying to drink an ice cream milkshake through a small straw. Filter takes a lot of room so you have to make sure you do not fill to the top with water, it will overflow when you put the straw in. No big deal, just something I would always forget about. These are all minor grievances compared to the convenience and comfort of having clean filtered water.I did take mine to Mexico and India, but never used it to drink tap water (too scared). I used it with either local bottled water or ‘filtered’ water. I even use it with the water fountains at the US airports.Cleaning is easy, throw it all in the dishwasher.A cap/closure of some sort on the top would be a nice upgrade, to prevent any debris from landing on the straw top. I would always use a wet wipe to clean the top before drinking if the bottle was exposed.

There is a thin plastic cover over the whitish silicone mouthpiece - it has a small hole in it so it is possible to suck through it and not realise it is there! If it is very hard to suck through, and to blow back for cleaning, check that you have removed this. I was getting very confused by reviews saying to remove the plastic cover - surely I wasn’t supposed to remove the silicone? I had used it a few times but found it very hard - I was convinced I was doing something wrong with the mouthpiece but couldn’t work out what. Then about the 100th time of messing about trying to pull the silicone off or adjust it, the plastic started to split and I could finally see that there was a thin plastic film sheath over the silicone, which I then removed. It’s still a lot harder to suck than an ordinary bottle, and blowing back through makes my eyes pop, but it’s not impossible any more!

Like many Latin America countries, Cuba advises that you do not drink tap water and only consume bottled water while traveling. Prior to my trip, I decided to buy a LifeStraw water bottle as I didn't know if I would find myself in areas where water was difficult to purchase. While bottled water was readily available during my travels, buying this water bottle saved my fiance, her brother, and I at least $100.00 over the 6 day trip.It was hot and humid, we were thirsty (and dehydrated from muchos mojitos) and the two water bottles we purchased allowed us to drink from the tap and filter the local water. The Cuban hosts we stayed with at first seemed skeptical but after a few days, they thought the bottles were pretty slick.Three weeks back from our trip and none of us were ever sick and the water bottles have been cleaned and are ready for our next travel adventure!

Bought this because I didn't know how good the water was in the country we were moving to, and wanted something I could most definitely use while on a long hike, away from potable water. This bottle fit the bill and then some.I tested the filtering capabilities on the Keto MAE hike when I filed the bottle from a stream that, as it turns out, is where cows poop upstream. Aside from the water being brackish (LifeStraw doesn't filter the salt) it was absolutely perfect.Bonus: when I need a traditional/standard water bottle I can pop out the LifeStraw and drink the water straight up.I have not had the problem others have had with resistance to drawing water through the straw, but I am a more patient drinker, maybe. Cleaning was a concern for me after drinking brackish (ocean-ish) water, but it hasn't seemed to affect the membrane or carbon filter.

Bought for a trip to Brazil/Argentina and it was perfect. Never got the slightest upset stomach or worry with water sources (and I usually filled up in less than stellar bathrooms). It was 100 most days and I constantly was able to have water access to keep hydrated and feeling great (even with being prone to heat exhaustion).I don’t have any complaints on suction, yes, there isn’t effortless flow, but a friend had one and recommended following instructions TO THE LETTER, so I did.I will say, this will absolutely leak IF you don’t blow the water back out of the filters like the directions say. I’d forgotten, leaked a little, proceeded to blow till my breath flowed more easily through it and didn’t have anymore issues with leaking. So glad I bought it since my last trip to Europe ran me over $50 in bottled water. Worth every penny.

I bought this for my husband as a Christmas gift for an upcoming trip overseas. First, it was a huge hit because he said it was such a thoughtful gift for me wanting to keep him safe. So there’s that. For functionality, this is a great item. It filters out harmful elements and allows you to drink water and other liquids with peace of mind. The water ended up being safe where he was, but he still liked this water bottle. It does have a hard mouthpiece, so that is a little different. It also takes more effort to suck out of because of the filter. But for peace of mind it’s worth it, and your mouth will get accustomed to it. This is an easier alternative to the Life Straw in my opinion. It’s easier to carry around and more professional looking if you needed it for a trip. Great product. Keeping people safe is always a plus.

Whilst travelling in countries with potentially unsafe drinking water we were able to use this to fill in any location. It not only meant that we could get access to drinking water all the time but also saved numerous plastic bottles, had we had to continually purchase water. It would have been good to have different colour options so that we knew which bottle belonged to whom, but a little marker on the strap worked well. Neither of us had any issues despite filling up with water from some dodgy sources! The bottle is easy to use - you just have to make sure that the mouthpiece is fully open. I initially thought that it was a bit difficult to suck through the straw but it was just because I hadn't fully opened the mouthpiece.Great product; it's safe and reduces plastic waste. We will use it on all future trips.

Felt compelled to write this review because of previous reviews I saw. There are several that state it is extremely difficult to suck water out of the straw, and I think I figured out why. If you look at my pic, you’ll see that there is a small piece of cellophane wrapping the tip, and it fits very tightly. If you don’t really look at it, you would not notice it. I didn’t notice at first and when I tried to sip I got a tiny amount of water. Upon further inspection, I figured out that it was actually wrapped. It’s tight so it will take you some effort to remove it, but then it’s no problem. In my pictures you’ll see how it looks different when it’s on, half off, and fully removed. Hope this helps. Also, I have not noticed any leaking problem, although I just got the bottle today.

I purchased two of these bottles for a father son backpacking trip to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. They worked wonderfully. We were able to get water from creeks and both lakes we visited. It was nice to just dip the container in the lake and throw the lid on and drink. In response to reviewers who say there is a bad taste you need to clean it extra good. There was a gross plastic taste after I cleaned the bottle per the included instructions but I let it completely dry out, cleaned it all again and then filtered two more containers worth of water through it and the bad taste went away. Love this product so far.My next purchase will be a MSR Trailshot pocket sized water filter so I can fill my kettle for dehydrated meals.

Perfect solution for backpacking or emergency prep. Well designed & well built. It works. Comes with a clip so it won't fall out of your pack unnoticed 2 miles back on the trail. Easy to clean. Bought 4, none of them leak. It's not like drinking from an ordinary straw, some suction is required to get the water moving, but not so much as to complain about as some reviewers have done (read the instructions and keep your filter clean, so problems don't arise!) Convenient replaceable charcoal filter capsules. Would be nice to have a 1 liter bottle size option (to match up with water treatment tablets proportions., most of which are sized for one or two liters of water.) Pricey, but fair value considering the convenience.

I got this because it looked cool, not really intending to use it to filter water. I planned to use it as one of my bottles I fill with bottled water before I go hiking. However, my brother and I went out hiking and were out longer than we planned. He also didn't plan appropriately with enough water. Between the two of us, we were out of water before we were done hiking back. Luckily, this handy bottle was one of the ones I had taken with me and we used it at a river that was flowing along the hiking trail. The water was crisp and cold, and I didn't have to worry about getting sick. It was so delicious. I was worried I might get the runs later, but good news! We were both fine. No issues at all.Highly recommend.
