My VERY OLD Chain tool is cast metal, well made and strong but made for the OLD Bigger chains so I wanted another tool that was built just as robust and was willing to pay for it..... This one LOOKS BIG and strong in the photo's BUT... It's NOT big at all. In fact it's about the same size as that thing sold for 5 bucks at Wallyworld..HOWEVER smaller is NOT a bad thing unless it means this tool is LESS strong. It's NOT very big at all.....In fact being small may be good. It's light enough to carry on the bike at all times....BUT...IT appears to be a SOFTER metal than my old tool and I am NOT sure it's gonna last 35 years like my old one has so far.....I am not sure if this is aluminum or notbut it's sure a shiny soft looking metal that MAY not be as strong as the impression it gives from the photo and from what the OTHER reviews indicated..HOWEVER,,after 4 uses the pin STILL lines up right and it has NOT damaged any chain side plates yet..I DO NOT use this tool to break old rusty chains. FOR THAT I bring out BIG DADDY my old chain tool. Hint for old chains. Remove an old rusty chain and soak it in Diesel fuel for a few days to break the joints loose... IF its so rust you can't easily open it DO NOT destroy this tool working on a bad chain. It's not worth it. Grease the chain in one spot chosen as your breaking point and let that grease set over night RUB IT IN GOOD before you leave it..NEXT DAY.. WIPE the grease off the breaking point..Test. IF it's still to tight you can tie a cloth around the chosen spot that has been soaked in Diesel OR Transmission fluid and let that sit for a hour or so..When you remove the cloth and wipe the chain off test it again. IF the joint is stiff and resistive you may find using two Sets of pliers you can bend the chain at a pin. WHEN you can move the chain at that pin it should break there.. ,, USE what ever chain tool you have on hand to open the chain, this one will work but be careful and work slowly. If you wish to use that chain again Soak it for a few days in Diesel. Break each ( loose NOT open) joint by laying it on a wooden block and tapping the joints with a rubber mallet.. Once it's loose simply roll it up, lay it flat and soak it some more in diesel or Transmission fluid. WHILE it's still rolled up use a steel wire brush and carefully clean it.. Soak it again for 4- 5 days in Coca Cola. Not sugar free. Use a real but cheap Cola..Afterwards wash it clean under fresh running warm water and bub it with a soft cloth.. The rust will come off leaving a nice black chain. Clean, oil and DO NOT scratch that black surface. Install the old chain if you know it's not stretched. THEN peddle it through the middle gear and a gear on the freewheel making sure it's working well....Use a mix of Half 30 wt non detergent oil and transmission fluid to clean the chain and lubricate it for the first few miles... With no pressure on the back wheel, slowly back peddle the cranks and watch carefully to make sure the chain threads through the rear derailleur pulleys and guides smoothly. OR.. YOU can SIMPLY Save all that work and buy a cheap KMC chain for 5 dollars instead..THAT is what I DO now that I am not a poor kid anymore...IF you are gonna toss the old chain anyway, why take a chance of breaking a good tool removing it? You can simply use a bolt cutter.. THEN you will find this tool works well putting the new chain on... I DO have ONE complaint about this tool... The threads are NOT good and tight to my satisfaction. There is a TINY bit of slop in mine... WILL that slop grow to become TO MUCH slop making the push pin loose it's center position abilities ? Only time will tell me that.. I HOPE not but I fear yes... IF yours wore out to quickly Please let me know..Warning DO NOT attempt this at home... I WILL Not be responsible for YOUR actions or your damages. This is Posted as educational information only..

I decided to pay a little higher price over the $5 version that doesn't seem working for many and I am glad I chose the right one. The stool is small and well built. I am just a little bit disappointed that the pin does go down straight but it is not so off the center to become not workable. Before working on the new chain, I practiced disconnecting and reconnecting with the old chain and it's so simple and easy. For those who needs to remove a few links, try to take out one link first so you know how it works and feel comfortable especially if you need to keep the pin in-place, in case you don't have the master link. The hidden built in poke wrench is super nice.I was able to adjust my wife bike's rim so it rolls straight and evenly through the break pads.Tip: When I reconnected the links together, I noticed the links at that point is rigid. I also made sure the pin ends are equally exposed on both sides but didn't help. From further observation, when pushing the pin to connect the chain, the outer link pieces were pushed together and caused friction. The final adjustment is to hang the outer link piece on the top deck the tool and push the pin down a bit further to open the gap. You need to repeat on both sides. I also uploaded the pictures to illustrate my point.10/6/2014: it seems that Amazon doesn't allow to upload pictures anymore.

No cyclist is immune to the possibility of his bike chain breaking at the worst possible time, place or weather. Although there is an argument that says this type of mishap is easily avoided if the rider is simply diligent in inspecting every component of his bike before, during and after every ride, as pristine chains don't really break in a moment's notice but a slow process giving tell-tale signs along the way. But if it does happen then this argument is already moot.Doesn't matter if that cyclist is using the Shimano pins (which needs this no doubt) or the SRAM/KMC chain links which is very convenient. If the chain breaks on the section that is not on the SRAM/KMC chain link then you're toast if you don't have this tool.Get one,log a good amount of practice time, put it in the saddle bag then go ride. Simple.

Initially I bought a cheap make red handled chain splitter and the pin snapped within seconds (on sale on Amazone for about £4 waste of money), so I needed a better one, and this Lezyn chain splitter is it.As I had bought some Lezyn bike lights in the past (pricey but brilliant) so I went for this Lezyn pin remover.Flippin amazing. Smooth action, and it made my job easy. The smooth action meant that whilst splitting I could push the pin just enough to leave the pin attached to the last plate to take the chain apart. This device had pushed it soooo true (straight) that reversing the chain and pushing the pin back in was a doddle. Top marks Lezyn, now what else do you sell that I need?

After buying, breaking, and returning the piece of junk chain tool from walmart I was at a loss for what to do. I try not to buy items like this on Amazon that I'm not positive will do what I want.I'm glad I did though. It worked great for fixing my bike chain. Only complaint is that it is a tad small. I realize the mechanism for breaking the chain has to be small for the rivets, but the handle piece could have been bigger and a bit stouter.Granted I have big hands, but still. Definitely an easy 4 out of 5.

Lezyne has taken tool making to a new level. There tools in some cases are almost works of art and exude the highest quality. Having broken 2 Park CT3 chain breakers, I was not about to get a third so I purchased this one. It is smaller, lighter, very attractive, and just as effective as the Park model. I am evolving away from Park tools to the higher quality of Lezyne.

Small lightweight compact and works got caught out once by a broken chain after that incident I said I am not getting caught out again so I bought this little chain breaker and as If by magic I had another broken chain but this time I had this with me it was sorted within 5 minutes and I could carry On My Ride excellent little gadget well we're having

I like this product because I am not mechanically inclined but was easily (THANKS YOU TUBE) able to break chain to appropriate length when installing a new one.I'd recommend this over some of the chisel and hammer tactics for chain breaking, unless you've got the confidence and skill. No regrets on this purchase - give yourself a break and buy one!

I bought a similar tool from my local bike shop...it broke in half after one use! The metal looked like it was a material made of baked flour! I've used this Lezyne tool several times, and it shows no sign of flexing or failure. It works smoothly (after I put a drop of oil on its threads). I can't see needing anything more for chain repair.

I love it. My previous experiences with chain tools were mixed. However this one has been great! Very easy to use; I have used it for both a 10-speed and 8-speed chain so far.Comfortable, easy to get enough torque on it to push chain pins out.Comes with a replacement pin, we'll see if I ever need it.

I'm used to cheap chain tools and multi-tools, and can't believe I waited this long to buy a respectable chain tool. It's so small and light you could take it touring, but it's strong and precise enough you'll enjoy using it at home.

Bought this as a standby. It's small enough to bring along on a long trip.Never had to use it but it feels very functional for a small tool.'Small' is already a compromise, so no high hopes of a full sized tool

I just got it so I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I have to say I'm impressed with the overall construction and feel of this little tool. Seems like a solid purchase to me.

Great product at a very good price. This chain link splitter is well made and easy to use, just apply a small amount of grease to the threaded bar before use. 5 stars from me.?
