Lexicon-Go is an enjoyable and educational word game by Waddington based on 'Lexicon - The card Game' that I remember from my youth. A similarity to Scrabble could be made, however this game is played without a board and the rules differ quite a bit. This game would make a great travel game for long journey, as well as a fun game to play with the family at home. Suitable for ages 8 plus. This game is all packed up inside a zipped plastic/canvas red case shaped like a boot. The tiles are made from good quality plastic/acrylic, each tile having a letter printed onto it … these letters are large, black and easy to see. This is an entertaining game in which you race against other players to be the first to get rid of all your tiles. You do this by creating words (much like scrabble), but you can also add letters to other players words as well as removing a letter from another player and replacing it with one of your tiles (as long as it still makes a word).I have been playing this game most evenings with my twelve year old daughter and fifteen year old son and I must say it has been a lot of fun. We do need to have a good dictionary to hand otherwise there could be a lot of cheating by my son who makes up random words and insists they are in the dictionary. In summing up … a great game that takes up little space, fun for anyone who likes word games. Lexicon Go makes a brilliant game to take on long journeys or holidays.

I remember, many, many moons ago, visiting an elderly aunt on the east coast on Bank Holidays and if it rained, from a tall old cupboard out would come the collection of somewhat motley board games. Lexicon and Totopoly among them. Well, the former has been rejuvenated and here it is!Quicker to play than Scrabble - and easier for younger age ranges - it's well made and an ideal time killer on a wet holiday day or when attempting to surgically remove iPads and gadgets from the younger generation. Grab ten tiles each, stockpile the rest and Lex-go! The rules are easy to follow and it really is fun to play - especially as you can pinch an opponent's tile once played,as long as you replace it with a suitable letter in order to still make a word. The little L-shaped canvas 'pencilcase' type bag holds it all together well and can easily be tossed into your hand luggage. As the late and much-missed Brucie might have said: "Good game, good game!".

I have to admit, Lexicon was a new game on us, but the sort-of-Scrabble-meets-speed-snap is nicely easy to pick up. Our kids are on the young side for playing the game truly competitively, so we have, for the time being, managed to generate our own more sedate variant of the rules where people take turns and there’s no advantage in thinking quickly, which makes the game feel a bit more educational (and admittedly dry, but not completely). I’m sure as they grow up, the competitive time element of it will get reintroduced. As you’d expect from Waddingtons, this is a game made to a very high quality. The tiles are strong and glossy (like Scrabble tiles but larger),and the L-shaped bag might seem needlessly quirky at first but it does work well and it’s not even a particularly inefficient use of space.Full marks Waddingtons, a fun game, well packaged and presented, ideal for cottage holiday pastimes and the like.

The acrylic tiles feel really nice to hold and move, quality, the black printing is easy to read... However the red printed score numbers, are so hard to read, over a dinner table for an evening game, we all had to really peer at them to get the score, they're firstly tiny numbers, but also red and not easily discerned. The carry bag is very nice, and the tiles fit easily back into it after playing. The instructions, could have been better, it's not entirely easy nor accessible, it's almost as if they've been written by someone whom knows the rules for Lexicon by heart, as such their commands on how to play lack a certain finesse, you don't feel equipped or prepared to play.We inflicted this on our 16 year old niece, she's never played Lexicon before, and was utterly and totally lost. But as a travel version of the game, this hits the spot, quality and would also make a good gift to any puzzler.

This is a nice little word game. It's not too simple as to be boring but not quite clever enough to be fully satisfying either. In the L-Shaped case you get the tiles all neatly sealed and ready for use. These are nice and glossy and have a pleasing weight to them. You also get an instruction leaflet which details two ways of playing the game. One is a turn based affair and probably the way it was originally conceived. The other is more of a frantic smash and grab and you all play simultaneously grabbing letters from the pile and sometimes each other. The aim of the first game is to accumulate the most points. The aim of the second is to use up all your tiles by making words out of them.As I say,it's a fairly simple game but is both very portable and would be a good time killer for those quieter holiday moments. It is also very nicely presented and made so the price is justified.

If you know how to play Scrabble then you'll grasp how to play this quite quickly. But this game allows you to do what you always wanted to do in Scrabble - nick your opponent's letters! Essentially you start with 10 letter tiles each and the rest goes in a stock pile. The aim is, as with Scrabble, to use up all your tiles. But there is no board for this - each player takes it in turns to try to make a word but if they can't then they can take one of their opponents' letters as long as they replace it with a letter that makes sense. They can also build on their opponents' words. Suitable for 2-4 players and from aged 8 upwards. Good fun and doesn't take too long.Comes in a little plastic boot with a zip like a pencil case.Lexicon used to be played with cards - some folk may remember that, but this is neater and takes less space on the table than with cards.

This is a fun game that's quick and easy to play. There are 2 versions of the game so you can either play the quick version (Lexicon-go!) or the traditional version (original Lexicon). We went for Lexicon-go to start with as it's been a while since I've played Lexicon. It was enjoyable to play, and we'll probably be getting it out again when all the family gets together e.g. Christmas. I like the tiles which are more durable than cards, although in our game several of the tiles had parts of the letters rubbed off, with the master tile being almost unreadable. It was still clear it was a special tile, but I was disappointed to see the damage on these straight from the packet when they hadn't even been used yet.So I'm dropping a star for quality. The quirky L shaped storage bag is fun, and provides good storage for the tiles so you don't lose any.

This is a fun, and simple, game, which is fast paced and easy to play. There is no board, just a bag full of letter tiles. You tip these out and turn them over, before choosing ten tiles each. The idea is to make words, using all of your tiles to win a round - no proper nouns, no acronyms, no plurals - but the rules are fairly simple. There is a Lexicon tile and, should you get that, you can use it to stand in for any letter, but then it has to stay as that letter. You can swop one tile and you can also insert a letter into another players word (ie. turn 'bit' into 'bat,' by inserting an 'a', but you have to keep the 'i').You do need a flat space to play, so it isn't ideal to use when travelling, but would be perfect to pack on holiday. Great to help spelling and vocabulary, and, most importantly, lots of fun.

This is a very well-made game from Waddington, with a strong, eye-catching bag with smooth, high-quality playing tiles.Based on the well-loved game, this is the version that will keep kids of all ages occupied especially when out and about; for instance on a rainy day in the caravan or for a little entertainment to keep the kids happy at a break at the services on the motorway - well, it makes a change from DVDs!One can play the traditional game of each taking a turn or there is the fast and furious every-man-for-himself version of trying to be the first to finish. Whichever one chooses it's a simple, entertaining family game; and is also an invaluable way of teaching children to spell. An easy-to-play game that is a lot of fun!

Love this game. Me and my almost 9 year old have been playing it nicely but this is where you need to modify your own game so that it allows any less able spellers to still take full part in the game. I also use it at school within my teaching groups (secondary) for a bit of lighthearted learning and fun. The storage bag is a nice robust red L and the cards can be kept tidy in there. As with games like Scrabble just be clear form the outset as to what type of words count to avoid any problems (so will you accept proper nouns for example). Whilst the bag is a biggish L it isn't that big that it can't fit in a handbag or rucksack. If you've played Bananas before think of the size of the bag for that.Great game and lots of fun.

This is a great game to fling in a bag for a long journey, to take on holiday or to play on a rainy day. The tiles are really well made, remind me of old dominoes, and fit neatly in the red L bag along with the instructions. The bag is really well made and will withstand lots of use and being taken out and about in rucksacks, suitcases etc.The game is fast paced, suitable for all ages and great fun. There are a couple of versions of the game included on the instruction leaflet but the tiles could be used for helping young ones to learn to read or spell or to make up your own games.

We love this! very similar idea as Scrabble only without the board and with a twist. Very easy to play and understand, my family had fun with this but we are big fans of scrabble so it was a no brainer. This is a lovely little set as its very easy to pack up and keep neatly in this little bag, as long as you take the time to place tiles away properly. Its good fun and can be a short game, but can easily turn into something bigger, depends on the tiles you get and your opponents. Great idea, great fun and easily portable.

This comes in a small bag and is lightweight, so I decided to get this to take along with us for our holiday in the caravan. We love Scrabble and this is somewhat similar, only without the board and much more friendly for under 12s and less able spellers. You can steal other players letters and use contractions, too. Games are fairly short, so perfect for 2-4 players to play while waiting for you to finish cooking or for a game before bed or even during lunch when you have plans for the rest of the afternoon.

The oldie's are always the best. I've not played Lexicon for year's but the word association game is back in it's very own L shaped zipped holder making it the perfect travel companion. The set comes with a simple step by step guide to play 2 different games on the go, Lex go and Lexicon Master games. Both equally fun. If you are traveling take this with you, it will fill countless hours of fun as you exercise your vocabulary.Recommended.

This is a *really* fun word game. Much less complicated than I’d feared it would be, and different enough from Scrabnle and Boggle to differentiate itself and be worth buying. From the first game, you realise this is that rare board game you’ll return to. The packaging is even distinctive and easy to store, the tiles themselves are durable and sturdy, and the quick fire nature of the game really helps to level the playing field.
