I'm an avid notebook and fountain pen user.I like to keep good notes at work, and very much enjoy using a variety of fountain pens to do so. The fountain pens mean I have to find good quality paper.Quite some time back, when they first came out, I bought Moleskines. I loved them. I even kept a daily diary of the first year following my son's birth using one. But then, at some point they changed where they were manufactured, and at that time also changed the quality of the paper. I was very much disappointed, as I found the new paper not particularly pen friendly. Ink would bleed through the page.I have since used quite a number of different notebooks. I really quite like Rhodia. And,would place Rhodia at the top, Moleskine at the bottom and this, Leuchtturm in the middle. (don't get me wrong, I do like, and use, Moleskines still)I saw these somewhere a few months back, and after reading a couple of good reviews online, took the plunge. I've now almost finished it -- three months daily use. And, I can report it has been excellent. It's A5 size, so slightly wider than a Moleskine. The cover is hard, with a slightly dull, maybe waxy feel. Good and robust. Good stitched binding. The book opens flat, and the pages lie flat enough. It has a pocket at the back, page marker ribbon and elastic binder. It also comes with some stickers to archive the book after use. 249 total pages, with 8 perforated at the back to tear out if you need toIt includes three pages of blank contents at the front, along with a name and address page. The pages have a date field at the top, and are numbered. The line spacing on the page is just right for me. 6mm.The paper is good, not great but heading that way. It's more than acceptable for this kind of notepad. I've used this one with fine and medium fountain pens, including a semi-flex nib and it handles it well. There has been no bleed through and no feathering. I've only experienced bleed when I used a flip-chart marker ;) You just have to be careful not to turn the page too quickly though as it takes a second or two for ink to dry.All in all, I'm really pleased with this product.

I may finally have found my perfect notebook - so many others have had 'just one thing' that wasn't 100% aligned with my *personal* taste, but not the Leuchtturm. You, of course, will have to make up your own mind. What's good about it?- Size. I like A5 as you can get decent pages full of notes, whilst havign something quite portable. The notebook has almost exactly the same dimensions as my iPad Mini (when attached at the hinge to it's Logitech slim keyboard) and these are both things I'll pop into a smart 'manbag' when not wanting to haul my laptop around.- Paper. Basically great - some slight show-through (but not bleed through) with black Lamy fountain-pen ink. Comfortable and smooth to write on.- Squares.I love squared paper. Don't worry if you don't - it's also available in lined (not sure about plain).- Organisation. There's a space for the date at the top of every page, page numbering (a really useful idea that so few stationers seen to have cottoned onto) and a blank contents section at the front for exploiting those page numbers to keep track of important sets of notes). There is the ubiquitous (but useful) pocket flap inside the back cover and some stickers for labelling and/or archiving your notebooks. I tend to leave mine unadorned in all it's matte black loveliness, but I still think these are a good addition.- Build. It is simply a very smart plain notebook. The cover is flush to the page-edges and flexible (so nothing to rest against if that's a deal-breaker for you) but the book feels great to hold. When you do find somewhere to put it down and write, you'll find that it is excellently stitched and opens wide and flat to allow access to the writing surfaces.Hope you enjoy this notebook as much as I do.

I've been using these for a couple of years after having tried pretty much all the alternatives. My go-to previous daily notebook used to be a Moleskin flexible cover notebook that was larger and thicker than these but again with a flexible cover cover. I liked the durability of the Moleskin cover but the paper always bled through when using a fountain pen.The Lechtturm paper works superbly with a fountain pen with no bleeding through and a very smooth glide and instantly drying. (Moleskin and many others bleed, Rhodia were slow to dry and the finish tended to clog more than one fountain pen.) The cover is very durable so it still looks tidy after 2-3 months of daily use. Plus,I personally find the A5 size is easy to tuck into the corner of a bag and use anywhere in meetings. The soft cover has fewer pages than the hard cover but that makes it slimmer but I still get 2-3 months per book so I find it a good balance. I also like the dotted version as its good for drawing diagrams and isn't obtrusive. All in all, I find these the best out there, especially if you are a fountain pen user.

Wow, just wow. I purchased this after being unable to find a black, soft back, plain notebook for a travel scrapbook. I was very unsure about purchasing it because of the price but after I recieved it today.. wow. I've never been so excited about a notebook! The quality of the paper is so good I'm terrified of ruining it with my scribbles and pictures! It has a nice little name and address bit at the front incase you loose it, with a 3 page index (perfect for travel!) The company Leuchttrum has taken great care in this product, including a envelope at the back and a few bits and bobs to help your journaling (stickers and a mini welcome book) I feel the quality of this notebook is too good for me and I'm excited to use it!Well worth the price!!

this notebook is amazing and i will be buying more when the time comes— it’s left-handed friendly (no smudge as far as i’ve found), the square rule is a good size and the two pagekeeper ribbons make for easy organisation.the paper is quite thin, so i wouldn’t recommend using a very inky pen (thinking ballpoint or non-heavy gel pens are probably best), but ink doesn’t leak through completely. it’s just visible on the other side of the page if you write heavy.the numbered pages and contents page were a nice touch, and there are stickers in the back to label your book with later.

I switched over from Moleskins to these about a year ago and haven't looked back. The dotted grid is much more subtle than the box grid the Moleskin offers so doesn't intrude on your drawings at all. I often scan sketches and use them in presentations and with this the grid isn't visible at all. The paper is great for pigment filler ink, although not as thick as the Moleskin, but I prefer the texture of the Notizbuch. If you are an architect, graphic designer or any related field, I would highly recommend these.

This is the first time I have encountered the Leuchtturm notebooks, and so far I am impressed. It feels good quality, and is a convenient size. The paper takes fountain pen nicely, and I like the insert, lined on one side, squared on the other, which you can place behind the plain pages to keep your writing level. Let's see how it lasts, but I think I may be becoming a Leuchtturm convert.

Great notebook, I love the squared pages-- keeps things organized and they can be used as tick boxes for lists as well. I personally use it just to note down things, occasionally to journal, and I love how convenient it is to bring around everywhere. Could also potentially be a good notebook for bullet journalling as there are page numbers too!

Although expensive, these are are most wonderfully made notebooks ever created. Pages are thick enough that fountain pens don’t leak through and the number long and contents page system is faultless. Whether you’re note keeping, studying or bullet journaling , this is the perfect notebook. Thank

I always buy Leuchtturms as their paper is so buttery soft and I'm working my way through the colours. When I order these, I usually buy a Journal & Hide leather notebook cover to house it in which I totally love. I find these on Instagram and Facebook as you can personalise everything!

Didn't mean to buy a softcover but I LOVE IT!The paper is such good quality and the cover is soft and very flexible. The dots are clearly marked, contents page very clear, back envelope is sturdy. Love that is has two book mark ribbons and a stretch fabric closer. Will defo buy again!

Absolutely beautiful notebook. I live for lists and writing things down and this has just made that so much more beautiful. Gorgeous paper and the soft back makes it so easy to carry around in my bag. I am definitely leaving Moleskin and converting to Leuchtturm 1917.

I use this for bullet journaling.I bought the wrong size, and at first it bothered me that it’s a bit bigger than my a5 journals. But actually, it’s a perfect size for this format. Less need to cram in small letters, and still small enough to carry around easily.

Brilliant little notebook. Better than the competition! I like the feel, I love the non-hard back, like the numbered pages (very useful) and the whole feel of it in my hands. Am definitely going to buy more as I go thru these with an alarming speed.

Just got this notebook so the cover is a little stiff but I am sure that it will become more flexible with use.The paper quality is good. I use a rollerball pen and there is no sign of it leaching through to the other side of the page.
