It's a great overall product. It's able to perform everything you'd expect it to perform, yet in a much greater variety of applicable scenarios, solely due to the fact that there's now a display to accompany the Google Assistant. Performance: A bit sluggish upon initial setup, but once your data/information is synced and cached, everything starts to operate smoothly. I suspect that this'll also improve over time, through software updates. Features: It's a display with Chromecast functionality built in. You can literally play anything on it, so long as your phone, tablet or laptop is nearby. Webcam is great. The ability of interact via voice and/or touch adds greater flexibility. The assistant is more contextual, examples: album art for songs, video information for what's being casted/played, visual representations for the weather as it's being spoken aloud etc. Speaker Quality: Much louder, with greater bass and soundstage detail than the original Google Home. It's no replacement for a sonos, but great audio quality for the price point. Pros: UI is gorgeous. Easy to get accustomed to using, both via one's voice or touching the screen. Integrates great with nest products. Works perfectly with youtube. Highly useful for kitchen related use cases. Notes: I'd highly recommend a Youtube Premium and/or Youtube TV Subscription, as the integrations are flawless, and you'll suddenly find yourself with a a new TV Set in the kitchen. Only Duo Video Calls work in portrait at the moment, so plan on placing the unit in landscape orientation for the time being, again software updates will most surely come with many such improvements. If you find yourself not knowing what you can do with it, there are an endless number of contextual suggestions made by the assistant for you within the OS, you just tap it, and the assistant will tell and show you what to say/ask directly on the screen. Cons: None to be honest, just that finding a suitable place to put it where it's properly in view can be a bit of a challenge at first.

I bought this thing on a whim, saw an ad for it in an email. I only had a general idea as to what it is, what it does, why anyone would want it. The darned thing looked like it might be fun, and I'm all about fun. It was easy to setup and going. The first thing is did was begin to pull all the images from my smartphone's cloud. Yeah, yeah, I know. Digital picture frames have been out for a billion years, but I've never had one. So, I really enjoyed being able to view my pictures in this way. I've been on a Greta Van Fleet jag for the last 6 months, so I said, "Hey Google, play Greta Van Fleet." I kid you not, it played Greta Van Fleet from some youtube channel. The volume was only about half way up,so I said, "Hey Google, turn up the volume loud!" Bam! That was some good action right there pally boy, or girl. Totally worth whatever I paid for it. I've done some daily news on it, some poking around. I find my wife does the same thing with a music channel and the volume, she's diggin' it. She also tells me I can "cast" things onto it from my smartphone. OH, I am told today she called her mother on it. Both parties gave it a thumbs up! Do I worry about someone listening in on us? No, not really. We don't do anything worth listening to, or recording in any fashion. This thing is fun to play around with, and I'm a huge fan of fun. Pleasantly surprised, bought it so my grandmother with dementia can utilize. Didn’t want a tablet bc there’s too much effort to get in to get it started and find apps. With the smart display it’s constantly on and she can talk to it. She can also video chat with the family (which was the selling point). The video is sharp and the sound isn’t pretty impressive. I took away the star bc the setup was such a headache. After going through the process it continued to say that there was an error and could not initialize...multiple times. Took hours. Finally got it working then found out that You can only video chat through Google Hub And you need a cell number; can’t use an email. And my 90+ grandmother does not own a cellphone. So I had to connect mines....meaning I cannot video chat with her and sometimes the google calls bypass the Display and come to my cell directly. Also there is so little troubleshooting help on the site or through Google for this issue. Despite this issue I really love the display. Hoping Google duo can update the app to use email and make this more seamless. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Ever since its release two years ago I've been using the Google Home products as the core of my smart home. My only complaint was that a display of some sort would make it more useful. I got the Insignia product with the LED clock which was good for replacing the basic alarm clock, but still not enough. Then I saw the announcement for the Lenovo Smart Display during CES,.I was not disappointed in this product. Finally the device becomes much more than the original. Beyond just the basics of controlling lights and answering questions. I love that when you ask a for the weather you get the voice response and the screen shows both the hourly and 3-day forecast.Almost anything you request comes up with related and relevant information. I love the clock face which is essential for use as a bedside alarm clock. Video playback is good, but I don't use that very much.I'm looking forward to when they get portrait mode working for most everything. I'd like to see more screen integration for voice commands. Not sure what they have in plans for new/improved features but I can't wait to find out. Best voice assistant available.

I liked the looks of the Lenovo 8" Smart Display so much that I bought two of them at the same time. I use one as a companion in my office so I can give voice commands for what I want it to do. It always recognizes my commands and executes them in short order. The display is excellent--clear and crisp, and when I want to listen to music its speakers give a full sound in all frequencies. I also like the touch screen, especially when I use the one in the kitchen. I use it to look up recipes for ingredients and cooking instructions. Like the one on my desk, the kitchen unit will be there for a long time. It has not failed me once in finding a recipe I asked for,and I keep it on during the preparation stage and cooking, consulting it frequently. It looks good and performs well.Overall I think the form factor was the most important element when I bought them, and now that I have used them, their performance is excellent--both do more than I though I would use them for.I now want another one for my bedside table. This product is my third google product to get their assistant working. I had returned both of google home products because of their small size. I think Lenovo needs to push google to do several enhancements:1 - I have my bedtime routine configured to play night music at a volume that is lower than the volume of the device, however, next morning when I ask the assistant anything I notice that the volume is as low as the bedtime routine but not back as what I expected.2 - Google music or YouTube music seems to have too much amplification. When the volume is around 5-6, while playing music, I hear unwanted rattling on the speaker and it degrades the quality of the sound so I have to turn it back down.In the over all, this is the best google home assistant I ever had. I love the size of the display and the rear wooden design. Also the video blocking physical button is a great feature and it ensures that video is off during duo calls. Lastly, the size of the device is awesome and it presents itself well in my room [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I like just about everything with this smart display. The 8" screen is bright, vivid and just the right size without being overwhelming. The sound is really good compared to the Google Home Hub. The microphones pick up really well. My only issues so far are that voice phone calls were broken with an update right before I purchased it. And that was one of the main reasons I bought it. And that the device seems to have problems staying connected to WiFi sometimes. I assume these issues will be worked out in an update soon, but Lenovo really needs to work hard on getting updates out in a timely manner. This isn't something they have a good track record on with their other products,so we'll see. I think if the "R5" update I've read about doesn't happen by January 31, 2019 (holiday return deadline), they're going to see a LOT of returns on this product. I have this Lenovo 10-inch smart display installed in my kitchen. I'd like to catch up on the news and listen to music while I'm cooking. The sound quality on the unit is pretty good, a little better then my Google home speaker that I had before but not as good is my Harman Kardon Bluetooth speaker. The display on the unit is bright and has good video quality. I have a 7 in Google smart display in my bathroom. That unit has the Adaptive lighting control which works pretty well, but really when I'm in the kitchen I like a nice bright display and the Lenovo does that very well. The unit picks up the Wi-Fi signal pretty good, and we don't really notice any buffering or slow downs while we are streaming.Overall this is a very nice unit and I'd recommend it to anybody especially if you can catch it on a sale for a Benjamin! I bought this product a month ago & I couldnt be happier with it. As a parent of a young child, I am always looking for devices that simplify my life. The Lenovo Smart Display allows me to do many things hands-free for when my hands are busy - be it the ability to add things to a shopping list, pull up youtube for when my kid is having a tantrum, the awesome oven timer, voice led cooking instructions are all much appreciated additions to my kitchen. All this, without using my hands means - i can be busy, but do all of these things as & when i think of them, without having to put down my toddler OR anything else i may be busy with. I would wholeheartedly recommend this to a new parent - with a toddler or a young child at home, you are going to need all the help you can get & this will definitely be one of them.

This is a Google Home with a nice, large, bright display. It makes all the things you can do with a Google Home a little bit better as you can see feedback and extra information. The sound quality is very good for the size, sounding much better than the small Google Home Minis and at least on par with the Google Home. It has quick access to commonly used smart home features (swipe down from the top) and gives you the ability to watch videos directly on the device. While not in use you can set it up to pull photos from one of your albums or it will show a large clock when it is "asleep". It has a built in camera (mainly for video calls) with a physical cover so no need to worry about any privacy issues if you have it set up in a bedroom. We have it in our kitchen and find it very useful.

I wanted to move on from google speaker to something with a display. I did wonder about buying a tablet and connecting it to the google speaker. However, I decided to go for the smart display. I went for the 10 inch version, looks lovely in the kitchen. It is a very well made product. Screen is fine for me (I do not need 4k etc...) and the sound is decent enough for the kitchen (I rarely had it past 5). The google home app is a bit clunky and this could be a bit more user friendly to make setting up the display slightly easier. Shame Netflix wont cast to the device, but other streaming applications I have on my phone have had no problems casting to the display. I look forward to future firmware updates.Overall, very pleased and a great introduction to smart displays.

Purchased this after comparing to the Google hubI found the Lenovo to be a better product for the following reasonsScreen size is slightly largerSound is better that the Google hubA camera is available for video calls (with a Shutter to disable it when needed for privacy)I previously had purchased the Google home speaker and find the Lenovo useful to have the display for music, home control and weather etc useful. In the kitchen it is very good for step by step instruction videos for cooking and also timers/reminders etc.Comparing this to amazon alexa we have found the google assistants to have much more accurate answers on searches.A good quality and well constructed gadget which once setupis a useful and helpful product.

I travel weekly but have small kids at home. We have a Google home hub and used it often to make nightly calls with ther kids. Now we have the Lenovo smart display 10". Game changer. My kids love it. They can walk up and call me on Duo with video anytime they miss me or just need to chat. Makes it so much easier to communicate with them. It also works just like any other Google assistant product. The speaker is full range including bass that gives it a rich full sound. The design allows you to keep it in landscape or portrait mode. It also has the slider to close off the camera if you choose.Definitely recommend to anyone wanting a smart display [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

We already had Google minis in various rooms to control lights, or turn on the TV with voice command. This unit ties it all together. We have it on the kitchen counter, and it is currently controlling the Christmas Tree lights. We just tell Google to turn on the lights, and boom, done. My sons watch the previous night's hockey highlights on it while eating breakfast before school, and my wife uses it to see who is at the door via a Nest doorbell. The speaker is very good, much better than the minis. It plays Spotify tunes flawlessly. Also, we use it for video chat via Duo with the kids, and it features a manual switch to shut off the camera which my wife appreciates. Great purchase.

It’s an amazing product, I was waiting for it since it was announced last year at Google IO, has all features that I was looking for, screens is really good and. I have bunch of echo show, and this thing blew away echo show. The one features I like the most is chromcast, I can play whatever in my phone at just cast it to lenovo smart display. I am waiting for some features, I have all nest products, would like to see if someone rings on my nest doorbell I can see visual feedback right away, instead asking to show me who’s at my door. I can’t wait to get few more of this to put every potential spot in my house, I will see if price drops down little bit and will buy more.
