I have owned a Leki trekking stick for 16 years and it has proved robust and reliable in frequent use over that period. I have also owned various tripods over the years, but because my current one is quite heavy, and I like to minimise weight when walking, it only gets used infrequently, usually when I am car-based or at home. The problem with that arrangement was that I had to use the camera hand-held for telephoto and other shots where a tripod would be advisable. The item under review has proved to be an excellent compromise solution. I use this as my trekking stick whenever I go walking and take my camera (and I'm rarely without it)

Leki Trekking Poles have set the standard for many years. Just like many other products made in Germany, the quality is there to see and feel. It's a sturdy looking pole, having a larger girth than a lot of poles you may come across. However, being carbon, the weight is kept down. The SpeedLock system is just so much quicker and easier than the "twist to lock" system which can be a real pain at times and is prone to failing in a number of ways with wear and tear.Having the screw thread for a camera lets one use the pole as a monopod which is ideal for smaller compact cameras. It's easy to use and hides away nicely within the handle when not in use.If you're a keen walker and photographer like myself,

This pole is very well made and easy to use as a stick. As a monopod the height is really good and I am 6 feet 3 inches tall. I found the captive thumb screw a little stiff, WD 40 helps this a lot also the first thread is a little sharp and you have to be careful not to cross the thead. The area that butts up to the camera base or lens mount could be larger..

I am 6' 1" and wanted a stick that was light and suited my height so I could look through the lens of my SLR without stooping. This one fits the job perfectly, and would be fine for someone a few inches taller than me.

I primarily use it for a walking stick, but bought it mainly for the camera mount. I find it easy to adjust for the length but the camera mount it'self can be a little awkward.....but it does the job....

An excellent lightweight but very strong trecking pole AND it's a camera monopod!!!!It's WONDERFUL!!!
