Being a house of 5 adults, a 4 year old and an 19 month old we do a lot of laundry and although we have the option my mum has always preferred to use natural air drying where possible over continuous tumble drying. Thus airers are a necessity. This is the first 'X-wing' type dryer we have had which is a change as in the past mum and I have usually had '3 tier' or my mum has had traditional folding ones which are good for different tasks but this has the factor if being able to handle long or large items of laundry such as bed linen and still have space for additional washing- something our existing airers cannot do!If the wings are set high you can hang trousers full length meaning they aren't as folded over and dry quicker with more surface area exposed to air. It's also robust enough to be able to handle heavy dressing gowns and such BUT be careful around children as the wings will collapse if lifted above the strut, it's a shame there isn't an additional safety factor there. This is also much larger when fully assembled than even the picture explains. Basically it is as wide as a double bed. If you have limited space in your home it may be too big. In my old house I would've had to have put this up and have it take over my lounge during the day, something you can't always do if you have small children. Luckily in this house we do have the space but it basically takes over our back room when fully up though it does fit in the gap at the end of my parents bed if they do not need to go in there during the day.Overall I'm really pleased with this much needed addition to our airers as it means less towels and duvet covers hanging over doors during the day!

Quality:Basically very good, with a couple of sloppy manufacturing faults. It is quite heavy and very sturdy. Just a couple of edges where the plastic coating has not been finished well and has a papery thin flap. That doesn't harm it at all though. The bracing hinges were poorly finished, causing problems with closing the airer at first, see below. What you get:The main frame, with permanently attached wings which are easy to lift up and brace with "under-wings".It comes with extra blue plastic pieces to snap-on : 4 feet with grips on them and 2 bracing pieces. You fit them as shown inthe picture. There are brief picture instructions on the paper wrap that comes on the airer. Once these pieces are on,they don't come off.Closing problems:I noticed that a couple of other reviewers had trouble with the bracing pieces, finding that once snapped out to brace the airer, they wouldn't fold down flat again for storage. This happened to me at first, and fiddling with the join of the bracers is no use. What did work was gently pushing the bracers past the flat position in the opposite direction, as if trying to open them slightly too far. There was a tiny click, and they are now free to fold flat and click open again. I think an extra tab of plastic must have remained from the manufacturing process.I like this airer because it is flexible on both sides. And after those early niggles it is very easy to use. If you have the wings flat, the cross-pieces are spaced close enough that you can dry a heavy jumper flat on it.

The Airer was delivered in a huge box with loads of brown paper. I don't mind the paper because I fold it up and use it on my work bench when I'm peeling vegetables to catch the peelings I just wrap them in the paper and put them into the composter but a smaller box would have been better. The Airer came in two pieces and was a real pain to set up, it is definitely a 2 person job. The hinges are plastic and need aligning correctly before clipping together. When set up there are about 30 useful hanging bars at different heights and you can adjust the heights on both sides to hang longer items of clothing or lay woollies flat to dry. The airer has a blue plastic centre piece that needs connecting together,it then clips open and closed and keeps the airer stable; you have to fit it into the right place with plastic hinges that snap around the bars. There are four plastic feet that slip onto the corners. The airer folds flat so it easily fits at the side of the cupboard. I have a 9kg washing machine and managed to hang everything from that wash with plenty of space between for faster drying. It would hold more but I prefer plenty of space between items so they dry quicker. The only problem is finding a useful place to put the airer whilst the clothes are drying but it is much better than using the radiators. I like it and it is very useful.

This is a very serviceable laundry dryer from Leifheit, a decent brand. It’s very lightweight but it still seems strong enough to hold a decent amount of washing - I can get two medium loads on it at a time. The lower drying area (and the support bars below that) are useful for socks and pants, although it can be a bit of a bother to get get down there (especially with the wings above you). The whole thing is well balanced, which allows the two upper wings to be used independently. I can quite happily hang a couple of pairs of jeans and some sweaters on one wing, without having to load / raise the other side to balance things out - which is handy if you’re short of space.Depending on where you position the support struts for the wings, you can raise or lower them. It’s handy to elevate one side to allow for the longer drop of sheets and towels. If you extend both wings straight the whole set up is getting on for 5 foot long (56”) and 22” wide. If you only extend one wing it’s only about 43” long. It folds down small enough to fit behind a door or to be slid down the side of a side board - when laid flat it’s about 3” deep. I like it. It’s particularly useful this time of year (winter) to have a dryer inside in the dining room. and this fits the bill well.

Edited to add: I've taken off a star because the bits that fold up to support the wings have a tendency to pop out of their holes causing the airer to list dramatically to one side. I have also pinched myself when attempting to move it around. My conclusion is that it's fab if you don't attempt to move or adjust it.This is a great airer. Lots of space to hang clothes and you can adjust the height of the 'wings' really easily to suit what you're hanging on them. It's actually kind of huge when opened out so do make sure you have the room for it, or it could be frustrating. When folded up it doesn't take up any more space than my old airer, though. There is not much info with it on what you are supposed to do with the blue bits of plastic, but I worked it out - you have 4 corners which are the feet, and the other bit is a hinge to to go in the middle and give it stability. When I first put this hinge bit on, I couldn't fold the airer back up - if you're having this problem, make sure you have clicked the hinge completely flat first - this seemed to free it to fold back. The airer seems strong and sturdy and I'm hoping it will last well. Warning - it comes in a MASSIVE cardboard box!

[Reviewed by Mrs O'] The Leifheit Classic Flex Standing Airer is by some margin the best clothes airer I have ever used. It was easy to set up out of the box, with four corner protectors and a central connector to clip on. Small things make a big difference and for me the way the corners protectors clip into a hole in the bottom of the airer means they will stay in place; the middle connector is also well designed and when joined together provides a very stable base for the airer. The design of the airer itself is fabulous with four 'leaves' giving a substantial area for clothes drying. By far the best thing for me, however, is the ability to change the height of the top 'leaves'by placing the bottom ones at a sharper angle, which then gives sufficient space to dry king size sheets without touching the floor - absolutely fab! You can also position the top 'leaves' horizontally (straight), which then enables flat drying of items, such as jumpers. This airer is highly recommended, you'll never need to buy another airer again if you invest in this excellent quality item.

I have the larger size of the Leifheit dryer previously which is great if you have a large space to set it up (which I luckily do) but if you are more short on space this is a good compromise. It is a much narrower rack, more compact. The arms can be raised independently from each other and can be at different heights which means you can have longer items (trousers, jeans, towels etc) at one end with the arm to the highest point and short items on the other side and a lower elevation. As with all Leifheit it is well constructed and can be used out side as it is stainless steel and should be rust proof so a sudden rain shower shouldn't damage it.Despite it being a smaller size it is deceptive and can hold a surprising amount of washing on it,two medium loads easily with a bit of thought to hanging layout on the rungs. You can find cheaper versions of this but if you want a quality dryer to last you for a good few years then investing a bit more in a good quality brand like this could be the answer.

I have used many standing airers in various forms over the years by a host of different manufacturers. My experience thus far of those was not so favourable, many over time broke at the apex and requiredtape to keep it together before I finally gave up and had to purchase a new one.I have had other Leifheit products and have been impressed with their functionality and robustness. This airer is no exception. On delivery straight out of the box the airer comes with some attachments designed to improve theperformance and stability of the product. It has directions to fit a flexible stabiliser attachment and for the other attachments on the legs.Pleasingly,it can be folded and is ideal for easy storage.Once constructed it easily accommodates a full load of washing from the machine. It also has an extendable part of the airer which can be elevated so you can place trousers or largertowels.Overall this is a robust, flexible and quality airer.

This item arrived well packaged in heavy duty polythene with the plastic sections (feet, joint covers and stability spacer) separate. It’s a quick assembly. The product is strong, weather resistant (so good for indoor and outdoor use) and all sections are plastic coated to make it easier to clean and keep it rust resistant. It’s a good size with enough cross members to take a heap of washing (20 metres worth apparently) and I love the fact that it can be raised to allow trousers and long items to hang free without touching the ground. It’s easy to fold up and store (which is a bonus) and great for the British winter (indoors) and summer (outdoors). If you do use it outdoors then make sure it’s secure (breeze blocks on the feet cross members is good) to stop the wind blowing it over, and it’s quick to collapse in an emergency (rain!) and get it indoors to sort out. All in all a very robust, high quality product.

As with most such modern mass-produced items, this is a more a 'triumph' of function than form, i.e. useful but not exactly beautiful. The lower part is an A-shaped frame, with the upper being two 'wings', that can be deployed at adjustable levels on either side of the 'A' frame, depending on the size/shape/amount of the load to be dried.Depending on the size of your washer, how heavily you load it, and what with, we've found you can dry between one and two full loads of washing, which pretty much chimes with the manufacturer's estimate (1.5 loads). Finding the room for such drying racks depends on the available space, of which we have precious little. So this has become our primary drying rack, located in the bathroom, with our previous one now relegated to overspill in the spare room.At the better made end of the usual range of such mass produced stuff, we hope this'll last us a good while. We'll see!

This airer takes up quite a bit of space when it is erected as it's 146cm long and 46cm wide. This is fine if you intend only to use it outdoors, but if you want to have the option of using it indoors in the winter it takes up a lot of room, or if only half erected, doesn't provide much hanging space. The upside of the design is that the majority of the top layer of hanging space is clear of the bottom rung, meaning clothes can hang freely and air can circulate better, ultimately meaning stuff dries quickly. Capacity wise I found it easily takes a load of washing and is strong enough to stay balanced and not bend with heavier wet garments. However it doesn't feel as substantially well made as some others,so if you have a husband who is prone to trying to dry ridiculous things on airers and destroying them in the process (just me?!) be aware it does need to be used sensibly and carefully.

This clothes dryer is probably the best I’ve ever had.The top parts on each side can be propped up in a variety of angles, so it can be set to be flat- perfect for drying jumpers or at an angle to hang items over each rail. Unlike a simple A frame dryer the wings can be used to create quite a big dying space, great for big items like towels and sheets. If you only have a small space then only one side can be elevated or it can be set quite high. The lower rails are good for small items like socks and underwear. To stop the A frame from slipping open there’s a hinge which locks flat. The product feels quite sturdy, (I expect an enthusiastic four legged friend or small to medium child might send it flying)and I’ll look forward to putting it on the patio in the summer and see if will withstand any thing more than a gentle breeze without falling over.

This is the first time I've used this style of drier. It takes a bit to put it together. There are picture instructions on the packaging. Probably took a good 5 minutes to figure out but if I were to do it again it would take seconds. It folds away nicely and is very compact in that sense. When it's folded out you can really vary how you want it to be used by changing angles and choosing either one or both sides to be up. When folded out fully it does take up a bit of space, more than my other upright drier. The difference though is I think this one holds more and allows for greater circulation of air. Plus there's the additional flexibility of how you want it to fold out.At around £30 it's decent value for money, especially as it seems very well constructed. Overall very happy.

I'm a bit in love with this brand now. I've been fortunate to trial their mop too and I am really impressed with their designs and their quality.I use a heated drying rack for the bulk of my drying but often have too much laundry to fit on. This is the perfect rack to stand next to the heated one (stealing the heat!).It's very stable despite its adjustable nature. With the wings at full height I can hang a super king duvet cover over the end of one wing and the sheet opposite... it then holds a full load of washing in between. I was surprised how much it held actually.I really like that with the wings flat I can dry jumpers flat too. No stretching. All in all... a good dryer design that is good quality and a decent price. What's not to love?!

This is a really high quality indoor airer, which as soon as you take it out of the packaging feels of a much higher quality than your average airer, which you would hope for considering the price. It is the traditional design with two wing style flaps that are propped up to create the shape pictured. The construction is very solid and I can hang out a full load of clothes washing on this dryer with space to spare. Unlike cheaper models, this is very stable and doesn't ever collapse in on itself (as I have had with budget models in the past) or suffer under the strain/weight of wet washing. It is sturdy ands stable, but it's much more expensive,so you need to work out whether the investment is one you think is worthwhile
