When it comes, the dryer is in one piece, which is about 7 foot tall... don't have it delivered to work unless your car is accomodating! I was not sure if the lines would already be strung up or not, as you can't see through the packaging to tell... they are and they are retracted inside the arms of the dryer, where they should live most of the time.To install the dryer I had to dig a hole, put the plastic socket into it, and fill with quick dry cement. This sounded daunting to a DIY incompetant person like me, but actually wasn't hard at all. I got my ready-mix bag of cement from Homebase for £6 and it was really easy - just put the powder in the hole and water it until the water starts to puddle.Easy! It set in abotu ten minutes too which was good. I didn't cement it all the way up the socket though as I wanted to cover the top with soil... not a problem! Now its all in the ground there is only a minor wiggle, and I don't think it will collapse. The plastic ground socket has a lid, which I suppose is to make it all look neat in the winter, when you would probably take the dryer down... normally this lid should attach into two holes in the main pole of the dryer... this is flawed though - it gets in the way of the dryer rotating, and if I let the lid clip in, the prongs would probably snap off in windy weather. So my lid is gloriously flapping about at the bottom of the pole now. :)To get the dryer up is a complete piece of cake - just pull the toggle and keep pulling until it is up. To put it down is pretty much as easy. Certainly easy enough to do while holding a full washing basket. I am at a loss what to do with the toggle cord once the thing is up though - it's long and I'd like somewhere to clip the red handle to so it (and a metre or so of cord) doesn't just lie on the ground. The lines on the dryer are a thin cord, which is thinner than standard washing lines - my old pegs are pretty loose and I've bought new ones with a smaller hole, so they grasp the material more. The lines are also a little slippy - even with the new pegs, some items of clothing slide together, which stops them drying quite so well. You do need to be more brutal in your pegging!! I'm also surprised that it isn't taller once installed - I'm 5ft 6 and I do have to duck a bit here and there - good for ladies of a shorter persuasion! All of that said, I love this! It's SO much nicer than my old dryer: I think that I'm much less likely to be hit on the head by low swinging spiders, my clothes won't be covered in cobwebs and other dirt, its so easy to take down that I actually will do it, and it is less of an eyesore in my garden. There is a separately sold cover for the whole thing too, which I have bought, and it'll stay nice for years. If I move, yes I'll need to buy a new base, but they aren't that expensive. However, if you are the sort who won't be bothered to put the arms up and down, then it probably isn't worth buying it!EDIT 2017: I've felt a little let down by this of late - first the lines stop retracting into one of the arms and now they are actively sagging for one quarter side of the airer. I've been very happy until now but this is really disappointing for a product that costs so much, after only a couple of years' use, once or twice a week, and it gets put away in the shed over winter too.

In these eco aware times we should all be doing our best to ensure we don't crank up our heating or keep running our dryers, so the outdoor airer is still going strong. So how is it possible to improve something that's pretty basic start with? One of the biggest problems I've always found with airers is that taking them up and down is almost guaranteed to ensure tangles in the lines. Most of the cheaper airers also use standard washing line cord which after a while outdoors becomes very brittle and the plastic starts to melt and got sticky, not something you want rubbing against your clothes. So how do Leifheit attempt to deal with these problems? Firstly the airer is made from very solid construction, the arms and trunk are made from good quality ally composite, very light and very strong. The cord is very thin but is not plastic/rubber covered so it glides much more easily which leads to the best part of this airer. As the arms retract weights in the arms slide down and pull the cord into the arms thus ensuring it cannot get tangled! It doesn't work perfectly, if you let the arms drop too quickly the pulling weights don't draw in the cord quickly enough and it can get snagged. As others have mentioned the cord is very thin indeed which means bog standard pegs will still work but won't grip the cord but you just have to secure your clothes properly with the pegs. Just something to be aware off. Installation is a doddle, standard style of airers. You have a "socket", dig a hole and sink the "socket" and then push the airer into it. This airer comes with a plastic ground socket and while this won't rust like cheaper ones, the issue I can think of is that after a year or two outdoors in the ground the plastic socket with probably start go very brittle and may not work as well.Overall I'm very impressed, I think the unit is a little overpriced for what it is but it's very good indeed with just a few little niggles that you need to be aware of.

I absolutely love this rotary dryer. Previously had a cheap model from a supermarket that, while it did last nearly five years, was a pain to put up and down as the mechanism was quite stiff and meant bending down quite a bit to push it up with a lot of force. Not to mention our old one was about two feet smaller than this one so to reach the back lines you had to practically garrotte yourself to get to them! This, I love, not only is it quite tall (tall enough for me to not hit my head on the edges at 5'3" anyway, but it is a cinch to put up and down. Putting the thing up is as easy as pulling on a draw string with very little strength and it goes up easily.Taking it down again is as easy as releasing a lever and it goes down, retracting the lines with it so there's no tangling and getting caught in them! The thing is massive and there is plenty of space to hang things on, I would say I could get at least four loads on this (today it's rainy so I haven't had the chance, but I can tell visually by the amount of room in comparison to my old one I will be able to get about four loads from our big drummed machine.I am so over the moon with this as had been flirting with the idea of getting a new one for a while. While this one is somewhat expensive, the ease of putting it up and down is an absolute must and as it can be taken out of the ground and put away from the winter is also a plus (the last one was completely cemented in). I highly recommend this - love it.Note: there IS a rod for putting the thing in the ground with this, although it really needs cementing in to stabilize it.

I am so impressed with this product!! The Leifheit Linomatic M400 85245 Rotary dryer has made my life SO much easier!! No more clothes lines stringing across the garden for me!! The product itself is large, but lightweight and easy to move/manoeuvre. It is made of aluminium, so will not rust or turn an unsightly colour, and has 4 large, retractable arms. It is easy to retract the arms when not in use, having a red toggle that is simply pulled. The arms are large, and the rotary dryer itself can carry up to 4 loads of washing - including bedding and towels - and the arms lock into place and stand firm, so no more sagging, dragging and drooping! No more wiping the lines before use either,as this is not necessary because once retracted, the line disappears into the arm itself, so stays nice and clean. The dryer comes with a ground socket, and cementing this into the ground is recommended. You can leave the dryer out/take it in, as you wish. The ground socket has a handy cover, so that it doesn't fill with rain, which is brilliant! Don't be put off by the size of the dryer, because it really is lightweight and compact. It folds away beautifully, so it is easy to store, and is completely weather-proof. This is a great product, I am very happy with it, and highly recommend it.

This washing line is great.Very robust, made out of what appears to be aluminium extrusions of a decent thickness. My previous washing line lasted me 20 years, this one looks like it could do that and more. So, why 4 stars?1. you need to order the cover and ground spike for mounting this in your garden separately (look at items other viewers purchased). These are both essentials and add a further £30 to the cost of the washing line. The spike was easier to put in the ground than some seemed to suggest, but still took a bit of effort!2. The lines are a bit too close together for my liking. Would prefer fewer and double spacing, you have to precisely hang items to dry,you cannot just sling them over. There is another accessory to clip smaller items such as socks directly to the arms of the washing line, but I have not tried this out yet.All in all, a sturdy washing line, just make sure you order the extras needed!

This is a really good line but unfortunately I haven't been able to use it yet. The reason is it comes with a plastic base hole, unlike my current line which has a metal one that you bang into the ground with a mallet. This one is plastic and the instructions tell you to set it in concrete, which is where I'm at at the moment - planning to get some cement !I didn't realise this when I ordered the line and it's something to be aware of.The line itself is gorgeous. Very well made and light to carry. The plastic base is a great idea because my metal one has rusted through being in wet ground and my line gets stuck in it!So all in all, great design - if you're prepared for the necessity for cement !

The first thing that struck me about this clothes dryer was how light it was. I was expecting it to be really heavy, but when it arrived I was able to lift and carry it with one hand and with ease. However, that's far from the most impressive aspect of this item; that title goes to the ingenious way the lines are sucked back into the arms when it's collapsed. It really is a neat feature, excellently executed. It keeps the lines nice a clean, stopping them collecting dirt and redistributing it to your freshly cleaned sheets while drying them. This will become one of those products you get a little buzz from each time you use it, because it's so clever and well executed.

We’ve had this drier for 22 years now (got it from another seller) and it’s fantastic ... still looks brand new ! The amount of clothes it holds is amazing and I love the fact the ropes go inside the arms so you don’t have to wipe them down every time you use it. Have to admit I take it in after every use which means I don’t have a whirly in my garden all the time. Fantastic product !

great line .easy to put up and down, turns easily in the wind and looks very sturdy. It holds a lot of washing , several loads in fact.all the lines retract nicely keeping them clean and dry . comes with a ground socket ,mine is concreted in with a good amount of concrete to counter balance the size of the line, very impressed with the quality of this unit

14.5.2015

Simple easy and effective.it takes away all the normal problems( cord tangle, slacking, cumbersome movement) associated with an up down carosel dryer it's simple to put up and take down and only require a land anchor which is provided and easily driven into the ground. Now all I need is some sunshine to et to use it properly!!

28.5.2015

As a dryer it has all the line you could need, easy to put up and down. But is is HUGE! It is too big for my narrow little garden . Will have to keep until I get a bigger garden. Mind you it is so tall no idea where I am going to keep it.

3.6.2019

More than happy with the washing line. Well made and extremely lightweight but strong. There is only one comment to add and that is, in my personal opinion it could be a foot higher.

3.8.2018

Very easy to raise and lower. Good quality washing line with plenty of room for hanging.Would have been 5 stars but I think it is expensive for a washing line.

12.9.2020

Fantastic. Easy to operate and stores the lines away automatically. I love it.

26.5.2019

Easy to put up hope the strings last well.
