These little things are astounding. Been watching nature for 40 years and I've always scrimped on binoculars - oh, the wasted years. This was on the grounds that I am often watching stuff "on the hoof" while doing other things like walking the dog, etc., so I have tended to carry cheap compact binoculars that can stay in a jacket pocket "in case" and take the abuse. At long last I have stumped up for something decent, but still small enough to stay in my pocket. These things are amazing - much better than any binoculars I have ever had. I have tested them alongside my son's Opticron 8 x 25s - these Leicas are brighter and sharper. They are about as small as I have seen any useable binoculars at any price point - a little weightier than some because of the quality, but in a jacket pocket you forget you have them. Mine are going to get a hard life and I expect they will soon pick up a few honourable battlescars, but the rubber armour seems very effective and solid so I doubt I will manage to do any real harm. The centre bridge is partly made up of very solid but bare black painted metal, as are the lanyard loops, so I expect a few chips out of these, but it looks like this may take some effort! The images are startlingly bright and "3D" and I feel that having the compact size is not resulting in any material compromises. Sure, the full-size Leicas, etc. are brighter and better, but these will be on me all of the time and they blow away every other compact binoculars I have ever tried. And I tried a few. Even in fading light, it is like watching a wildlife documentary on HD. The dioptre adjustment is done via the central focus wheel by depressing an adjacent button - this avoids another seam in the mechanism like you get with the normal eyepiece dioptre adjustments. Nitrogen-purged (so fogproof) and waterproof to 5m, so if I take (another!) impromptu swim in the river, only me and my smartphone will suffer. I have no problem using these with or without my glasses. The extending eyecups pull out with a very solid and satisfying click, but like many they are either fully in or fully out - you can't really set them to a position in between. As you would perhaps expect with Leica, they are extremely solid and ooze quality - a pleasure to use in their own right. And yeah, I admit it - it will be nice being seen using binoculars with that red dot on them!

I agree with Remus that these are likely to be the best binoculars of this specification that money can buy. Very sharp and (considering the small objective lenses) very bright. The contrast is excellent, as is colour accuracy. Comparing them with my Swarovski EL SV 10x42s, they're not as bright, but it would be astonishing if they were. I've also compared them with a Zeiss (West Germany) monocular bought around 35 years ago, and the Leicas are far brighter and generally superior. It takes a little while to get a feel for how they work - eg the need to set the interpupillary distance each time you open them up from the folded position - but such things quickly become second nature.Only slight quibble is that the case is a very tight fit, but that's hardly a deal breaker. These Leicas wouldn't quite do as main birdwatching bins, but they feel light as a feather and can be taken anywhere, and I wouldn't be without them. Sheer luxury! Also, I ordered them on a Saturday and they arrived the following Thursday, which is excellent, given that they were sent from Germany, so full marks to the suppliers ,Koester.

I need a pair of bins that stay in my car, that I can take on a casual walk, or take with a big lens (500-600mm) camera for spotting. These tiny 8x20 are perfect. The image quality is excellent. I had some Nikon 10x25 but it was very difficult to get the eyes to align and I often got double image. These Leica's are very easy to get aligned and they focus very easily. The push-button diopter adjustment is great! No accidental changes.I picked these over the 10x25 because my main pair are 10x and these 8x have better close focus. They see about 8.5" at minimum distance. Your center of view is about 4", so a single flower looks good. The 10x see about 11.5" at minimum distance. It's not as good as the Trinovid HD (at 4.6" FoV minimum distance), but those are giant compared to these guys.I don't mind having no front lens caps -- I never use them anyway. But I'm not going through wind blown sand or extreme dust. The case is easy to use and slide the bins in/out. It's a bit bulkier than some cases, but small nonetheless. I appreciate that there's no velcro.

These are VERY SHARP optics, as befits the Leica brand. Couldn't be better.I use them with the eyepieces pulled out, since I don't wear glasses. Works well with sunglasses (pushed in), but I'd rather not have the shades on when viewing.I used them to resolve Jupiter's moons(!), barely, when the giant planet was in opposition. This was quite a feat for them, and I had the advantage of knowing where the moons were before looking (website mapper). If not, I'm not so sure I could tell. Even so, for 8x20 binos, that says a lot.I usually use them to resolve markings on birds, and in this regard, it treats colors very accurately. They only start to get difficult when the sun starts to go down.On overcast days, I find no trouble using them.Grip is stable, feels very solid. My only "issue" is one that small-bino makers may not be able to fix; the focus knob can take quite a few turns to go from near to far focusing. It's a minor concern. These binos may not be better than the top-of-the-line 8x40s, but they are surely best-in-class.

Extremely high quality binoculars with incredibly sharp optics. Hard to believe this can be done in such a small package. These are Leica binoculars so I won't go into the obvious details about their construction, etc. The only point that I would like to make here is that these are truly COMPACT binoculars. I love them but I ultimately had to return them as they were a bit too compact for me personally. I needed something that I could get my hands around for maximum grip.Perhaps the only (extremely minor) nitpick is that setting the diopter can be a little tricky. You have to hold down a button underneath the focus knob while turning the knob to set the diopter. It's not a big deal it just takes more time to set correctly -- and this may change a few times until it's just right.

Bought this pair of binoculars as a gift having owned a pair for the past five years. We keep them in the glove box of the for birding when not in our backpack during the hiking season. They are very lightweight but yet stabile when viewing just came back from Africa where they proved their weight in gold. Either in the pocket or around the neck always available without heavily hanging around the neck as larger glasses. Their brightness and field of view are quite surprising for such a small set. The plane of focus and ability to focus are both stunning. The only downside might be the price, but you are buying a Leica product and this product is a great example of that quality andengineering.

I bought these after spending a considerable time trying out a large number of binoculars in a specialist store. They were the clearest, brightest compacts I tried; I can use them with or without glasses (I am shortsighted, both eyes approx -5) and they focus down to about the shortest distance of any I tried, well under 2 metres - close enough to focus on a butterfly at my feet.If you are spending this much on a pair of compacts you really ought to go to a shop to try them out; everyone's eyes and requirements are different. But if you cannot manage to try out a pair first, I think you can order these with confidence.

When I first unpacked these I thought they were a toy until I looked through them and was astonished by the clarity , brightness and color of the birds I was seeing. I bought these for travel to see wildlife, particularly birds. They were recommended on birdwatching sites as being the best lightweight, travel, birding binoculars . I am very satisfied. Perfect for my purpose. They do not do so well in low light levels but that is true of other binoculars, even much heavier. Easy to use.

I wanted something small and lightweight, but didn't want to compromise on optical quality. This binocular definitely fits the bill. I bought it to carry along on trips for layover amusement, but now I'm thinking it would be nice to have it in the car at home.By the way, it's already survived a five-foot drop onto a wood floor courtesy of a curious cat. It seems like a solid piece of gear.

As expected these little binoculars are superb. They suit my purpose admirably as they are extremely portable and deliver excellent image quality. They work well with my glasses and the focussing is quick and easy. Yes, a serious bird watcher would need more magnification and would find a larger instrument easier to hold steadily, but for my purposes they are ideal.

Now that there are so many interesting birds to be seen I have these binoculars with me all the time. Eagles can be seen even near Brno a couple of times a year! These Leica have top quality and are light and small. The bag is a bit of a tight fit which is not so practical. Otherwise 10/10 for usage and optics. Best binoculars in my life.

I love these tiny binoculars. They are light-weight but clear and easy to focus. I'm a small woman and the size is perfect for me. I'm taking them to Africa and have to restrict my luggage and purse to 33 lbs total. They fold into a small, compact space and cause no issues with neck strain.

Beautiful quality, bright, clear image, and works great. You just have to understand that it is small which is both good (easy to carry and therefore more likely you'll want to carry it) and bad (it's small so don't expect the performance of the larger units).

Wow, I'm really impressed with these binoculars! Tiny and light, with a very bright view. They're perfect for hiking or taking on a bike ride. Very impressive.

Fabulous binoculars in a size handy for being in the field. Crystal clear vision that makes other binoculars feel obsolete. Wonderful optics.
