Review of LEGO 70830 THE LEGO MOVIE 2 Sweet Mayhem’s Systar Starship Building Set, Fun Construction Toy for KidsWhen a LEGO set comes out before the movie it's related to, it's somewhat difficult to comment on its play value. If a child has seen the film they will probably enjoy acting out scenes from the film with the starship and characters, but without the knowledge of the film it's just a weird spaceship with an unusual 'weapon' of a roll of stickers coming out of the back! The trailers for the film look fun though so I'm looking forward to seeing how this starship looks on film.The build was reasonably straightforward although my daughter did have trouble with getting the door on one side to shut properly with the 'star chart'piece in there as shown in the instructions. This was a little frustrating. But other than that things went smoothly and build was fun. The instructions were to the usual LEGO standards, and you get the usual tool to separate bricks if needed, and some spare parts. For display the starship is a little wobbly so you need to make sure the landing gear is out. The starship has a lot of moving parts and details which are good to see, with various opening doors, and of course, the disk shooter.

This is obviously for a movie I haven't seen yet, so it's hard to know how accurate this is. Based on previous Lego Movie kits it's probably very close, as they use the movie to sell the exact sets you see. It's perfect marketing.This is quite a big chunk of lego when assembled. It has the look and feel of a star wars toy. My 8yr old nephew took about an hour to build this with my help for some fiddly bits. In terms of function it basically has stickers on a roll which you can dispense, and a disc-firing cannon (I'm sure these things make sense in the film...). There is also a prison cell and cockpit that opens.You get three figures with this set; the Emmet minifig, Lucy minifig,and Sweet Mayhem herself . The last of those is the best, and is sure to be a very sought-after figure in years to come.My main problem with this set is that a lot of it is very specific, so if you wanted to use it in other sets a lot of it is useless (the plastic exterior of the ship is the best example).For pure builders and collectors this probably won't matter in the least, but creative kids might be a little bored.Also, the price of £60 in far too high.

Note, as Amazon are currently listing reviews for all the different Lego Movie 2 kits together: this review is for the "Sweet Mayhem's Systar Starship" set (LEGO 70830)The latest Lego movie tie-in kit is from the Lego Movie 2 and, from the trailer (this review was written before the film's UK release), seems to be the main space ship/kit featured in the film.The main part of the kit, 3 mini figures aside, is the space ship which looks like a model of an eye-ball. Although relatively compact when built, the ship has a range of working features like missile shooter, a number of opening doors, sticker-roll dispenser and moveable wings which all help give a good degree of playability once the kit is complete.Despite the fact it's not a huge size, the ship is made of a large number of medium and small bricks and takes a good couple of hours to assemble. We had to rebuild a couple of times where we'd made a small mistake in placing bricks going too quickly as the end result has to be perfectly aligned to allow doors to close properly etc.Overall, another high quality Lego kit with the usual clear step-by-step instructions

This is rated suitable for 9 upwards and I can see why it is a bit more trickier to build , and takes a bit of patience . Once built it’s very interactive, and nice round shaped pod that has lots of fun , useable features like doors opening , adjustable wings and it reshapes . All the pieces are very colourful , and aimed at both girls and boys . Like all Lego pieces the dearer sets contain more charachters and this has 3 figures , as such - with a very cool and desirable white winged girl . It has has two smaller emoji type charachters which I presume all of them will feature in the movie that comes out in February .My neice loved it , she has just turned 9 but loves her Lego and again loved the girl figure and the fun,interactiveness of the spaceship . She rated it a hit an I do too, as I am a long term Lego fan and as a children’s counsellor use Lego in my work .So overall I rate this a 5 , as it holds your attention , is quirky , has nice charachters and you can see is a more superior set that previous ones in its design in build . Kids will love it .

The picture on the box lead me to think that this Sweet Mayhem’s Systar Starship Building Set from Lego was going to be a bit of a let down. There didn't appear to be much to it. So my initial thoughts were that it was over priced. I was wrong! Firstly our nephew had a great time putting it together. He was fully engrossed for a whole morning and he's quite a Lego aficionado. Once constructed he showed me how much there is going on with the "starship". I don't have the in depth knowledge he has of Lego or the associated movies so can't comment on how the final product matches the film. But there is a whole lot going on within and without of the star ship. Hidden compartments,moving parts and people and lots of variety and options for play and integration with other Lego play sets. All made to the usual, and expected, Lego high quality. My fisrt impressions have been firmly shown to be incorrect. 5 stars.

I’m not really sure why Lego have released this item so early on. Like other reviewers we haven’t seen the film yet so it’s hard to get a realistic idea of its full play potential. However, assembly is very straight forward compared to some of the other Lego kits.The kit comes with 3 figures and a round spaceship. I thought the spaceship was well thought out and it has a number of nice features as it has a disc shooter, an opening prison cell and can dispense stickers. The sticker dispenser seems a bit bizarre but until we see the film it’s not going to make much sense. The kit also comes with a number of accessories.Overall this is a well thought out kit which, like all Lego kits,has lots of play potential. I’ve given it 4 stars for now mainly as we haven’t seen the film and would need to see that first before giving it a final rating.

Another clever tie-in from Lego to their latest movie. Although we haven't yet been able to see the film, there's every likelihood it will be a great hit with kids (the first was hugely popular). Although this particular kit is at the top-end of the range, it still provides value because of the playability of the toy once built. Thus build itself is challenging but within the range of any sufficiently experienced lego enthusiast. Once built, the spaceship was smaller than I expected, which is handy for storage. The ship has lots of features which makes for entertainment that will last long after the build is completed. Of course that leads to pressure to buy more items from the set,which is clearly the marketing intention, but that doesn't detract from the fact that this is an excellent toy.

I have not seen the film so cannot comment on the concept of this toy, but I have total confidence in Lego knowing their market and can confirm my eight year old great nephew loved it. It is more complicated than some of the Legos sets with a wide range of different sized pieces so probably best for the older child with some adult input. As the space ship is round it is important to build it properly and tightly (the instructions are great) otherwise the doors etc will not work and bits fall off. Nice addition of sticker dispenser - all kids love a sticker! Hours of creative play and great to encourage dexterity.

I loved the first movie and the main characters are great. This is the Starship of Sweet Mayhem. It is not the most exciting Starship design as it looks a bit like a Pokemon Go ball and that is why I only gave it 4 stars but that is not a fault really of the model as they have to follow the film's design. Building the model is fairly straightforward and the model itself is pretty robust. This makes it an ideal set for a younger builder when they move to a slightly more advanced level. Having the mini-figs is always great and I was also very pleased that it is more gender neutral than many sets.

Wow this is an amazing set. There is lots to build and do....the colours of the lego are bright and fun and appealing. Its challenging but fun and the characters are great. Its from the new lego movie and will amuse for hours. Its lego whats no to love, but we had fun with this in the build but there is a good play value after the build here. There is scope for lots of role play games with the people and of course it matches up with the movie. This is a sound good value toy which will bring many happy hours of play for a youngster.

This is quite a large lego set, and a little on the pricey side, but that said it kept my daughter quiet for quite a while building it (instructions were easy to follow, but required concentration) and it has been constantly played with the last few weeks, and has come on holiday with us. The space ship has lots of special parts, so you can't make it into anything else, but with the little figures mean you can act out lots of adventures. Bottom line is that my daughter is extremely pleased she saved up to buy this!

Got this for a fun activity with my son and daughter as they love the 1st lego movie. For most of it I had to do most of the building as it was a little fiddly for them but in the end they loved it. We will be buying more sets that go with this but the only problem is the price, lego is always expensive and you don't get a lot for the price but if like me you have children who love lego and the lego movies its a must buy!

This set represent great value for money. It is a good solid build once complete and has some really components...the sticker reel was a massive hit with our children!Master builders will be impressed with the box size and the number of bags supplied, it also took a while to build because of the solid design. It has stayed fairly well intact despite lots of play.

My grandson loves the lego movies and Lego in general!This was for his Christmas present and I have to say he absolutely loved it - and played it with all day - he told me it was he best ever present!A great set with figures and the spaceship - quite expensive but worth it for the smile on his face!

brought for my 7yr old son. It was a good price on sale at £32.99 . He absolutely loved building it. The ship was a bit bigger than I thought, whichwas a good thing. It come next day very fast delivery. Another lego set to the collection that any child would love.
