Very rarely would I ever give any set a five star rating, even if the set was amazing it would have to really impress me to earn such a rating, this one has done just that. It includes a great mix of minifigures (even the berserker which for those of you who have seen the movie, you know why this is weird for a toy meant for kids) though a word of warning, for me at least Aragorn was rendered useless due to his body cracking once I put the legs on, a few other pieces did the same thing but thankfully they were very common parts and ones you don't even see, this can be attributed to two things, age since the set came out in 2012, and a bad batch of plastic since all of the parts were the same color (brown). The set is rather pricey now but I'd still highly recommend this for either children or adults, personally if you do get this I would recommend also getting set 9471 Uruk Hai Army since it connects to it and gives you a larger force of Uruks to have attacking the fortress. Overall this is an impressive set to look at and though it only really has two real play-functions (a small catapult and an exploding wall) if your child has a decent imagination (which these types of toys are meant to encourage anyways) and if you are an adult or teenager, you may find it fun to try to expand onto the fortress since it has numerous areas to do so. All in all, this is a set I had always wanted and I'm so glad that unlike a lot of things this actually lives up to the hype, I cannot recommend this set enough, though like all things you should make sure you find a reliable seller to avoid some of the nasty little things (bags having been opened, missing pieces, missing figures, dirty parts, etc.) people may mention in other reviews.

First things first, I'm a parent who buys Legos for my 6 year old son (and of course for me a little bit as well). That being said, I can't speak on how fun it is to play with, although my son seems to enjoy it. I will say a bit about the technical aspects of it:1. The full retail price of $129.99 is too high (in my opinion). I got mine from Amazon for ~$105, so I'd suggest waiting for a sale.2. Although pricey, you do get 8 minifigures, 9 bags of Legos (1,368 pieces) and 4 instruction books. It's a large set, and a fun build (although a bit repetitive).3. My son always asks me what each set "does;" meaning: what special features (trapdoors, hiding places, etc) does it have? This set doesn't have many. There's the catapult by the front stairs (for Gimli) and the break-away wall (for when the bomb explodes). And the break-away wall's design prevents it from working properly (pieces are always left behind).4. The LOTR Hobbit Urak-Hai Army (9471) can be clicked into the side of this set to make an even bigger fortress. All in all, if you're a fan of the Lego The LOTR sets, then I would definitely recommend this one.

I have a 7 year old son, and he loves the set. The castle is nice and open, which makes it easy for him to play with. It is a bit difficult for him to put the small pieces together, but he enjoys playing with it.I also own Kingdoms King's Castle 7946, and King's Castle Seige 7094 sets (along with many more). I think Helm's Deep is superior to them.Pros:-8 Detailed (as far as Lego's go) Minifigures-Higher walls than normal Lego castle sets-Exploding wall-Lego bricks that resemble bricks-Many more pieces than a normal $99 Lego castle-Almost 1400 piecesCons:-Many small pieces. This isn't a bad thing in itself, it just makes the piece count a little deceiving. Even though it has about 40-50% more pieces than a normal $99 castle,it's not much larger.-No base plate. It's not just a flaw with this set, it's a flaw with a lot of the newer sets. They would be better if they came wit a base plate to put the castle on.I want to make a note that I got this set on Amazon for $99.99. For this price it is truly one of the best lego castle sets you can find. The MSRP of $129.99 is a bit overpriced.

Wow, for the price this is one of the best LEGO sets I have bought in years. Helm's Deep is amazing. Besides being impressively large, it is also beautifully detailed. There are so many unique elements: the moss on the rocks, the angled ramparts, curved walls and stairs, the infamous grate that blows apart, the hidden doorway. Plus, it contains exclusive characters, including the elf Haldir and King Theoden. (I know the elf wasn't at Helm's Deep in the book, but it's a nice feature for fans of the movies). Besides these you also get Aragorn, Gimli, and a few Uruk-hai. The set also can connect with Uruk-hai Army, set 9471, which makes it even more fun. The only minor drawback, i think,is the bridge between the King's chambers and the main ramparts. It's a little bush-league. All-in-all, a fantastic set. If you are only getting one LOTR Lego set, I strongly recommend this one. It does not disappoint.

Overall it's a great set, lots of detail and lots of tiny fiddly pieces to put together, which to me is the whole point of legos. I extended the thrill of putting it together by building it up layer by layer instead of in the 'click-together' sections the instructions suggested. The only criticisms that I have are that more thought was put into the way things looked from the outside of the walls than the way they worked inside them. Guess I'll have to get some more legos and see what I can't do to correct that.On the plus side, I picked up the 'Uruk-hai Army' expansion set on an impulse and am pleased to say that it clicked together with this set easily. It can either be stuck on the end or inserted between the 'stream'wall section and the keep.As to whom I would recommend this set: anybody who loves legos and anybody who loves LotR. Heck, I may even buy it again for myself.

when I recieved this set I knew I was going to recieve a detailed scene of one of the greatest batlles in the LOTR franchise. It was easy to build, and it even comes with a a large lego multitool that can be use to pull apart any two bricks. this means no morebent pieces or broken nails for me. One of the first things I noticed in the set was the little lego box, made in commemoration of when, in the two towers at the actual battle, legolas jokingly asks gimli if he would like a box to see over the rampart. I really like the fact that this set seperates into sections for easy transportation. You can even switch around the sections to customize and make your own fort. although the whole thing is hard to spin around, and the side doors are a little to small for normal minifigures, there are plenty of fun extras that come with this set. Thanks Lego!

Battle of the helm's deep is consistant with the quality of the other Lego sets we have been puchasing for the past 20 years! My 26 year old enjoyed his Legos as much as my teens today. The Lego sets are an excellent venue for creating stories, games andstop-motion filming with their friends. All parts are durable and can out last most any calamity, with the exception of thevaccuum cleaner! Also, thank you for providing an alternative to hours & hours on electronics.Legos are excellent for engaging the mind anddeveloping fine-motor skills at any age.

Full Disclaimer: I am 25. I'm an engineer professionally, and I've always been a big Lego fan. After 8 years of not buying Legos, I saw this and just had to get it.First off, it was really fun to build. The minifigures are some of the coolest I've ever seen.Second, it looks spectacular. Its probably the best-looking castle that Lego has ever produced, and I don't say that lightly.I still don't get tired of looking at it on my shelf. In fact, I liked it so much that I bought the entire rest of the first run of Lord of the Rings legos.

My 9 year old son loved this Lego. Much better price than in the stores and arrived a day earlier than expected, so that was great. My only issue was the terrible way it was packaged. It arrived in a box that was partially smashed. The Lego box inside was also smashed as there was no inside paper packaging to secure it. The Lego box had scotch tape on the ends in an attempt to keep it together. Fortunately all of the pieces were inside and my son absolutely loved it. I would expect much better packaging for a $130 Lego though.

I have purchased MOST of the LOTR legos by now, and I was holding off on this one because the price seemed high for what seemed like not the world's coolest set.I have now changed my mind. This set is really great, and nicely detailed. Once built it looked much bigger than how it looked in pictures, and makes for great play with all the other sets. Anyone who is a fan of the movie will like the detailing, and anyone who like legos will like it because it is awesome, a really fun set to build and a very "playable" set.

This set is everything I was hoping for, detailed and clever and fun! Only thing I was disappointed about: The Hornburg itself, the fortress inside the wall that you can see poking up behind the wall in the picture, is not that tall. It's just as tall as the wall, so looking at it, you can't see the fortress really at all. Which of course is not right, either by the book or the movie. And to have a set that doesn't look like the picture at all in that regard is sad for me. But otherwise, everything was perfect!

This is a great, great set. I am not a LOTR fan and never will be one, but, man, this is one amazing LEGO set. Nice castle, nice minifigures, lots of weapons, etc. Not too fond of the use of stickers, as I prefer printed bricks. I am very happy to have it in my collection. However, when will Amazon ever learn to pack well before shipping? I am a collector and need the packaging to arrive in pristine condition. Amazon never delivers in that aspect. If not for the price, I would always buy from the LEGO Store.

This Lego Set is by far my favorite from any series of Legos. It is the ultimate Lord of the Rings set and is, in my opinion, cooler than Tower of Orthanc (although pricewise, Tower of Orthanc is a better deal). Unfortunately, this set is retired from Lego, so the price has gone up, but I still recommend it to any dedicated Lego Lord of the Rings fans! Also, this set looks even cooler (and has more balanced armies) with 9471 Uruk Hai Army added on!

We bought this as a Christmas gift for my seven year old son. First of all, let me say that a seven year old can't put this together by himself. It does make for a great couple of days spent with your child putting it together though. He certainly helped and felt that he had a part in building this behemoth of a lego set. All the details are here. I really like the attention that lego puts to the various details from the LOTR movie.

28.12.2013

I feel like they're missing some key characters, but I suppose that's a gimmick to get you to buy the rest of the collection. This is a slightly older set at this point, and while it's fairly expensive, it's an awesome addition to any Lord of the Rings Lego collection.Lego always does a neat job with details. The castle part's pretty standard, but it's a set that's great for photo opportunities.
