I was initially put off this set as I thought the tail should really be 'filled in' and seemed a bit unfinished. However, when it was on offer I put it on my Christmas list (bought it for someone to give...) :)It's a large kit for the price and is quite complicated but easy enough to build and not heavy. Be warned there are two different red angled parts with a hole in the middle and sockets for axles at either end, it's important to get the right part for the leading edge of the wings. Several of the instruction steps need careful studying to see how the parts fit together. There are also a lot of stickers to apply and when you peel them off the sheet they have an amazing static electricity property so are attracted to the plastic very easily.I used two tweezers and lots of patience and now they are almost perfect (phew). There are four controls. The canopy opens and closes with a turn wheel behind the cockpit, all three wheels fold up or down together with one control located underneath, the rear wings tilt with the pilot's joystick and the main wings sweep all the way back using the jet exhaust wheel at the back. You could Blu-Tack a mini figure pilot to the seat if you had one, but none is included.Overall then, a set that will take several hours to build and offers lots of play options. I recommend it for all ages. :)

While Lego is a worldwide toy that delights children & adults alike for hours on end, some kits aren't that interactive. The 9394 Jet Plane, looking similar to an RAF T1 Hawk "Red Arrow" gave both myself (43) & my son (6) hours of fun while building & since then he has played with it endlessly. Having got it at approximately £28 in a sale, I got far more than i was expecting. While a Red Arrow doesn't have swing wings, this one does ! By twisting a spindle you can make the undercarriage raise & lower, the cockpit "canopy" frame also raises & lowers & the rear tail "flaps" also twist. It comes with great stickers, two books of instructions that are so easy to understand by a child used to Lego - if you want to dip a toe into Technic Lego, this is just the kit to start with. Approx 8" tall & over 17" wide with its wings out & 18" long. Add in that you can also take it apart & rebuild into an alternative "stunt" type aircraft there is so much enjoyment to be had here it's hard to see how you can go wrong with this purchase. Brilliant fun

We really enjoyed this kit. Some other models in the price range have been quite quick to build and have not had many interesting bits to play with when finished, this one however provided several evenings of entertainment and has lots of interesting features (so far we've only made the model on the front of the box). By turning the various controls you can swing the wings forwards and backwards, raise and lower the wheels and also the cockpit hatch. The control stick in the cockpit also moves the elevators at the back. The instructions were very clear and each stage is broken down clearly rather than expecting you to play "spot the difference" as with some kits we tried a few years ago.The swing wing jet model actually came with two manuals as there were so many stages.Overall I'd really recommend this model for someone wanting a Technic model that is fun to build , looks good when finished and has some moving features but won't break the bank.

I bought this for my 9 yr old son at Christmas to try and wean him off Starwars lego. ( Character figures argghh!)This set did not disappoint. My son realised that you get far more for your money with this kit than the film franchise stuff. The kit has the usual easy to follow instructions and builds into a surprisingly large jet with swing wings.Although I built the kit with my son, I think that left alone he could have built himself with the odd helping hand in one or 2 places. The kit has been played with a lot, as all technic sets they are designed to see all the moving parts but it looks real enough and sturdy enough to use as a toy.We have not built the secondary aircraft yet as it appearsto do a lot less then the jet. However my son likes the jet too much to even consider taking it apart yet anyway.I thoroughly recommend this a good introduction kit to the Technics range and linkages in general.Happy building, Dads' ( I mean kids :-)

This is a superb model. It has working parts. It is satisfying to build. It looks fantastic. My 9 year old loves Lego. He has built umpteen models of innumerable types and themes. He says this is the best ever.It is highly complex. The cockpit canopy opens, the wings swing, the undercarriage retracts. The elevators move by pushing the joystick . It's all done through worm gears, cogs and shafts. It's an engineering marvel. Despite this, the usual clear Lego instructions make it straightforward. We have only made the jet. I doubt we will ever reconstruct it to make the stunt plane. We would have to buy another kit!The bonus of Technic is that is seems more robust than other Lego.It doesn't explode into a thousand pieces if you breathe on it.Lego is expensive. However, this model is great value compared to other Lego.

I bought this for my son for his 10th birthday. He loves to build stuff (when i can drag him away from the xbox). It only took a couple of hours to build and once he'd started he did'nt want to stop. The only problem is, is he won't break it down and build the other plane that you can download the instructions for (Thats also a little bit of a gripe - this aint cheap Lego so i feel its a little bit of a cop out to not include the instructions for the alternate plane). He wants to build the other plane but wants me to buy him another one so he can keep the jet he's already built. Hey maybe thats a good money spinning marketing ploy from the the Lego guys. All in all its a great building kit that gets them thinking and using the rest of their hands instead of the joy stick on a game console :)

This is the first Technic model I've bought since I was a teenager (which is a while ago). I was expecting I had to keep it away from my two oldest kids (3 and 5), but they have been able to play with it without destroying it.The only thing is the cockpit canopy is too hard to open for them, but then the model is not made for young ones.It looks great, and is loooooooong. I've not tried to build the secondary model, so I can not give any opinion on that.It would have gotten a 5 star, if the landing gear had been a tad longer (keeping the model higher from the ground) for more realistic look, and the ability to "take off" without dragging the tale.

Our seven year old son completed a few smaller Lego Technic kits before getting this one and we were not sure how he would manage. In the end we needn't have worried - he sat down on Xmas day and worked on the jet for about eight hours until he finished with little parental help needed. The next day he disassembled it and made the other smaller propellor model. The day after that he reassembled the jet! The instructions are very clear and the kit is of the usual high quality. The jet itself is quite sturdy and has a few actions including folding wings, retractable undercarriage and movable flaps. Highly recommended.

I brought this excellent piece of technology I mean toy for my nephew, needless to say I had great joy building it, sorry helping my nephew build it honest! Joking apart this is an amazing piece of kit, beats my kid technic Lego from the 80's!! Not only realistic teaches your children alot more then your standard Lego. I was attracted to the fact this model is 1/2 a Meter in length and only £25 (when I brought it) so much worth the money for the size of it. Well recommend this as a Christmas present for all kids of all ages not just the 9 to 16 as recommended by Lego ;-)

When this set arrived I could barely believe the quality and value for money. My 7 year old son who is a true lover of lego was absolutely enthralled when he opened it on Christmas day! He immersed himself in building it and his beaming smile truly reflected the play value of this fantastic set. On the box it looks great, up close once built it really has to be seen and tested out (there are moving parts) to truly appreciate it. Congratulations to lego for producing yet another fine set. I can definitely recommend buying this.

Bought for my grandson who's just 10 and I'm pleased with it as it's taking him quite a while to complete! He says it's very hard but I think he really means it's taking a long time to do. It's not finished yet so I can't comment on the finished object but it's good for him to have a challenge. The Amazon price was the best I could find and at that price it's good value for money. I wait to see whether once completed he'll bring himself to dismantle the first plane to make the 2nd one.

For £25 this is pretty cheap for a technic lego model and yet you get a lovely big model wit lots of functions. A side knob retracts the tricycle landing gear, turning the exhaust nozel sweeps the wings, a top knob raises and lowers the canopy, and pushing the centre control stick in the cockpit works the horizontal tail plane. A good value model for kids and adults alike and a must for any plane enthusiasts.

This was the 6th Lego Technic item I had bought...Seeing as it was only £30 (relatively cheap for Technic) I was expecting quite a small, easy to build model...Well, it was the opposite, really big in size and requires two booklets to build the Jet...Anyone looking to build something that is quite hard, and not willing to pay the price of the Supercar (£100) then I definitely recommend this!

Really fast delivery. My 9 year old daughter had a lot of fun constructing it. She made a mistake initially and had to take everything apart to reconstruct it. The experience taught her to be careful and patient. When she finally completed the jet plane, she was feeling so satisfied and proud of herself. Not difficult to construct, just needs lots of patience and concentration.

This is an excellent lego kit that can actually be played with once built without falling apart like a lot of traditional lego plane kits do (e.g. City). We're looking for something that couldn't just be built in an hour or so and this was perfect although a bit hard for my son to do completely on his own - the age range of 9+ is about right.
