Build experience:Put together by a 17 year old so out of the age-range of this product but the building process was both enjoyable and easy, the instructions are great as always with LEGO. The bags containing the parts are conveniently numbered and no complex building techniques are used. Several pieces that aren't visible in the final product are helpfully coloured to be easily identifiable. Any 8-year-old without previous LEGO experience could build this (except for maybe the stickers/decals that are simple but fiddly).Play:Once completed the set is very robust; the main body is very solid for holding and 'flying' about though I doubt it would survive being dropped with all the pieces attached. The iconic wings will move apart and together again with the operation of a simple mechanism and all 6 missile launchers are easy to access and use (though the pieces they shoot are hard to find after they've been fired). The set comes with 4 minifigures (2 more than the model seats): the famous Luke Skywalker (dressed a pilot) and R2-D2 as well as the lesser-known Biggs Darklighter and R2-Q2. This allows greater diversity in play.As a model/display piece:This set is an excellent re-creation of the iconic X-wings seen in the original Star Wars films (4, 5 and 6), it is properly mini-figure scale and a lot of attention to detail has been paid to the wings and decals. The underside of the set is a little under-detailed compared to the top, but I personally don’t find an issue with this as you won’t see it very often. It is worth noting that you can’t set the model down with the wings open, but this is nothing simple stand of a handful of bricks from your own collection won’t fix. Additionally, there is a rod that hangs down as part of the wing mechanism that can be a little intrusive, but this can be removed with no detriment to functionality as it only makes closing the wings easier.Summary:LEGO have made many X-wings over the years and as you can expect the product is very refined in all aspects. Building is simple yet cathartic and the finished model is a great toy while faithfully re-creating one of the most iconic spaceships in Star Wars. I can’t think of a single way this could be improved.

A few years ago my children (with the assistance of my wife) bought me an earlier version of this Lego X-Wing Fighter. It was a fun set to put together and still sits in pride of place in my office. The updated version is equally fun to put together but does feel like a slightly slicker, more calculated package. For example, on this set the four ‘engine intakes’ have purpose built Lego pieces that closely mimic the look of the intakes on the original cinematic X-Wings, whereas my old version had to make do with standard Lego pieces augmented with stickers. Similarly the ‘laser cannons’ mounted at the end of each wing have been made more robust and been beefed up with spring loaded launchersthat fire off coloured bolts.Whether these and the other small refinements are all positive developments will depend on how you feel about things like spring loaded launchers. Personally speaking, I could have lived without the latter. Every new Star Wars Lego set seems to have them, resulting in the thin plastic bolts they fire constantly turning up everywhere in our house. When I grew up playing with Lego back in the early 80’s never once did I long for spring loaded bolt guns to be added to any of the sets. However, by contrast other changes do make the set better than its predecessor. The more robust later cannons are a definite improvement. Even sat on a shelf in my office the old ones are forever falling off. The mechanism that opens the wings is also greatly improved.Overall this is a well-designed set that accurately replicates the X-Wings from the Star Wars films and has improved on earlier versions. It does though, feature some rather annoying additional features seemingly intended to increase its appeal to children but which are entirely unnecessary.

In conjunction with the 75220 Sandcruiser set, this made part of a LEGO building session for my 8 year old nephew and two thirty-something brothers. Between the 3 of them, they had both models completed within a few hours. This was the smaller and simpler of the two models, but with 730 pieces and 219 steps to the build it's still fairly challenging for the younger end of the recommended age range. As a combined effort family building exercise, this was great fun - and the resulting X-Wing is so good, that my brother has promised to put up a shelf for my nephew to keep it on. The model has masses of detail and the minifigs are fantastic. Both Luke Skywalker and Biggs Darklighter have a choice of facial expression, loads of vividly-colourful detail in the printing on their helmets and uniforms, and the helmets include orange plastic visor sections. The X-Wing set has a couple of small interchangeable decal panels for the wings so that the X-Wing can be matched to either the Red Five X-Wing piloted by Luke (accompanied by R2-D2 in the astromech droid 'seat'), or Biggs's Red Three, with R2-Q2 in back. The cannons are spring loaded and fire quite a distance, but perhaps the best of all this fighter's features is that, when built, the wings move into and out of attack formation. The mechanism for opening the wings is a sort of slider on the top of the X-Wing. To close the wings again, there's a button on the underside. Both mechanisms work really smoothly and quickly, with the wings coming back together with an audible 'snap'. The RRP is high, but this is a really good fun set.

This latest version of the Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter, which includes four mini-figures. You have Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Biggs Darklighter and R2-Q2. It is aimed at 8-14 years and has 730 pieces. My son is at the older end of the suggested age range, so built this without any problems. Those at the younger end of the suggested age for building this might need a little help but, as expected, the instructions are easy to follow. When built, this is a pretty robust model; although the shooters at the back did tend to fall off (only those on the underside of the model). However, that aside, this looks pretty detailed and there is a sliding mechanism which allows you to open up the wings. For those Lego collectors, the most excitement will be brought about from a new helmet; slightly larger and a little more detailed than the previous version, which has not changed for a number of years.Overall, this is good fun. My nephew loved the characters, although we removed the back shooters, as they tended to fall away. I am not sure whether this is just an issue with the model we made, but it didn’t spoil my nephew’s fun with playing with it. Four mini-figures give it a lot of play value, as well as the enjoyment of being able to open the wings. This does lose a star as the back shooters just would not stay attached, but it is a minor flaw and possibly my son’s fault with the build, although he is pretty good and has built far harder models than this, so I suspect it is a small fault with the set itself.

This is on the simpler end of the X-Wing series - it’s not an Ultimate, but that said, it’s very recognisable as an iconic X-Wing and it’s also very playable - which is not the case with the UCS models. The build is fairly straight forward starting with the main body and then the wings. You get the choice of Red 1 or Red 3 (the spare identifiers can be stored on the back on the engine cowl - not an official suggestion, but it works) and the two pilots. While one of them is Luke, you’d be hard pushed to know that. The helmet detail is excellent though and you get the two droids for each pilot. There are nice touches like the ice picks for the engine intakes and the look is very good. The engines in particular are very good representations. The s-foils deployment utilises two rubber bands which is clever, if possibly short lived. There is a switch on the bottom to close the foils on landing - I took this off as doesn’t look great and doesn’t add much. The mechanism to deploy them is robust and stays in position - which is good. The front landing gear is manual - it’s effective but basic.in play, it works well and pretty much stays together. The engines are the weak leak and full off regularly but that can be used to represent battles. The wing large blasters are very good and effective. The torpedo firers on the side are not so good but they are what they are.All in all a brilliant Star Wars model combining excellent looks with great playability and durability - really good.

My Children and I are huge fans of Lego and we buy and build a lot throughout the year but recently we have tempted my (previously Lego hating) Husband over to the dark side with Technic and now Star Wars has seen him come almost fully into the fold.Age Suitability:-This set is aimed between 8 and 14 years old and my Son managed to build this with help from my Husband as he is younger than the lower age.Size:-This is a medium sized set and has 730 pieces with some small spares.Figures:-The set comes with 4 figures; Luke Skywalker, R2-Q2, R2-D2 and Biggs Darklighter.Features:-Along with an opening cockpit area the wings can be closed together for glide mode or opened into the X shape for attack mode by using the lever. The landing gear is retractable and there is space behind the cockpit for one of the R2's to sit. The X-Wing has stud shooters on its sides and spring shooters on the wings.I'm not into Star Wars myself but my Husband and Son are and they really enjoyed the build and the X-Wing has had lots of playing with afterwards along with the other Star Wars and Lego sets that we have.

I got this for £53 during Black Friday (reduced from £79.99) and it was a bargain. It is definitely worth full price. This is a really good build, mildly challenging and took me about three hours (albeit I had to do in three chunks owing to time and children!).The finished ship is very accurate to the original trilogy X Wing of Luke Skywalker - my only criticism is that it probably should have three legs to stand rather than just the one front leg and the two triangular blocks used as a stand. Two reasons for this, when the wings are in attack formation the lower wings extend below the stand blocks so it doesn’t display on a flat surface well, the other reason is that the wing mechanism has a ‘quick release’ piece which also extends below the stand blocks hampering balance. I just built a stand from grey and black pieces to use to remedy this but it would have been nicer just with additional feet.A good, accurate, solid build of a classic Star Wars ship, goes well with the 75211 Tie Fighter and the 75150 Vaders’s Tie and A Wing sets.

The LEGO 75218 Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter set is truly astounding. For the minifigure collectors you get Luke Skywalker, Biggs Darklighter, plus R2-D2 and R2-Q2 droid. Really nice to add these to your collection. The Lego build is aimed at the right age and a 9 year old built the set with little mistakes. So, it is an ideal set for a child who has built easier sets. The X-Wing Starfighter looks impressive and is sturdy. It looks great on any shelf. My son added this to his older version of the X-Wing and this looks just great. This version has subtle improvements and just looks nice. The R2-D2 and R2-Q2 droids are a nice addition and look great. This is a great set for any Star Wars fan, more so for Lego Star Wars fans.Really look forward to 2019 Lego Star Wars sets, to see what new stuff they bring out.

I've found myself falling back in love with Lego of late since my wife kindly got me the Millenium Falcon set for Xmas.Having had such fun with it I've found myself wanting to collect some more. Next on the list was the other Star Wars craft I dreamed of owning as a kid... the X-Wing.Once again I've found this set to be awesome fun to build. It comes with 6 bags of bits and excellent visual instructions. I find myself constantly amazed at the design that goes into these sets.I find it easy to recommend these sets to anyone who enjoys Lego and Star Wars, they are brilliant, two of the greatest things brought together and making them is a relaxing and mindful experience.

30.9.2018

The age range on the box may say 8-14 but I suspect there will be plenty older than that who will enjoy making this classic set. My son had a previous model of the X-wing and this feels very similar with shooters, a mechanism to open the wings into attack formation and four minifigures in total. This set comes with Luke Skywalker, Biggs Darklighter; together with two droids R2-D2 and R2-Q2. Those at the younger end of the age range may need a little assistance but it's easy enough for any child of 10+ to do alone. Once together it's an impressive looking thing and robust enough to be able to actually play with and remain together.

I brought this set for my partners birthday present and I have to say he was delighted. He’s a Star Wars lego collector and was very happy to have this in his collection. My partner informed me the build was an enjoyable challenge and looks great on display. The detail is really outstanding and the workings to make this come to life is well though out, Lego has really thought this out well and the mini figures really do put it all together as one show piece. I must have for any Star Wars lego fan or collector, you will really enjoy the build.

I’m very impressed with my new X-wing it’s outstanding, I love it such a great build. It was bigger than I thought and took me and my brother a couple hours to build! It comes with two Lego men, Luke & Biggs plus two droids R2D2 & a grey version of R2D2! There are a few stickers to but on the x wing, not to tricky!Looks so good on my coffee table with my Y wing, only trouble now is I want another Star Wars ship! I’m thinking A wing!May the force be with you Lego shoppers

The X-wing is one of the most iconic ships in the history of film. Lego have produced and outstanding reproduction in their own inimitable style, that is fun to build by following the easy-to-follow pictorial instructions. The pieces come in 6 bags and you assemble one bag's worth at a time. The set also includes a Luke, and R2-D2 and an R2-Q2 figure, just to make it that much more desirable. This is a brilliant addition to the collection of any Star Wars and/or Lego fan.

7.8.2019

This is not the first Lego X wing but it is probably the best. It's an expensive set at full price and not as large as some but it is fully featured a great build. 6 bags of bits and lots of play appear. My son has a collection of Lego Star Wars ships and this and the Slave 1 are definitely the favourite. It is fairly sturdy to play with (better than the sand crawler or imperial star destroyer for example) and with more variation of pieces it is a nicer build.

2.2.2019

Updated X-Wing from an earlier set. I really like the engine detail, which adds to the look of the model. Wings fold if needed depending on your play mode at the time. I'm an adult collector so prefer the X-Wing stationary. If you get the other two models, the Poe Damaron X-Wing and the Rebel Alliance one, they look great sitting next to each other. Easy build, but model certainly looks the part. Recommended
