Arguably the most recognisable Imperial and/or First Order vehicle in Star Wars, the TIE Fighter is certainly the most recognisable currently available in Lego form. Seeing as the classic dark grey colour scheme is long out of production and something you'd have to trawl through eBay for with a view to max out your credit card, this set comes with the First Order red and black colour scheme from The Force Awakens. The TIE comes in a pretty sizable box, so when you/your child/your partner/your parent gets their hands on it, you'll know it's going to be a build to set aside some time for. In my case, as an almost fully capable adult, it took me roughly 1 1/2 hours. As with all of the larger sets, the pieces come in a set of numbered bags (four, in this case), so you can build the TIE in stages without getting all 500ish pieces muddled together in a nightmare pile. The central part of the TIE is a very enjoyable build, with very little repetition and some clever Lego trickery to make curves from angular pieces. The cockpit roof and windows are all moulded round pieces, but the rest of the set are squares, rectangles and pyramids, so the overall rounded shape is cleverly achieved. The wings are a nice build, although not as much fun as the cockpit, and this is where the set suffers from repetition which younger minds might find frustrating. Obviously due to the symmetrical nature of the TIE Fighter, the wings consist of two identical builds, and in fact bags 3 and 4 are both exactly the same - one bag per wing. Younger builders might find the wing construction a little tricky as well and might need an adult on hand to help them out. It's not that the wings are particularly complicated, but a couple of the instruction diagrams are a little unclear as to exactly where you're adding the pieces, turning almost into a game of spot-the-difference from the previous diagram. For a large set, the TIE contains very few stickers, which many will find a relief. There are only four small ones, although two fit onto disc-shaped bricks, and so care should be taken to make sure they're orientated correctly. In terms of sturdiness, the assembled fighter seems to be quite robust. There were a few stages during assembly where it felt a little wobbly in places, but once it all came together that soon passed. The TIE doesn't feature as many interactive parts as some other ship like the X-Wing, but the cockpit opens up to insert the pilot and gunner, and there are two missile launchers beneath the cockpit for flinging small plastic projectiles across the room like a maniac. The mini figures are probably the only letdown in this set, coming with a pair of TIE pilots, a First Order Officer and a technician. The pilots are nice, but the officer and technician seem a little run-of-the-mill. A much better idea would have been to include Poe and Stormtrooper-Finn to allow reconstruction of the Star Destroyer escape scene from early on in the film.To summarise: A nice large set resulting in a great looking model, and good value for money. Let down slightly by an unimpressive minifigure selection.

.Latest intelligence, from Rebel spies deep within Imperial Space confirm that Elite units of the First Order Tie fighter pilots have exclusive access to specialised craft. In the form of a two-seater TIE craft, supplied with superior weapons and new sensor systems. As a former arm chair general, my nephew and I wanted to see how much of a threat these weapons are going to be. Will the new Tie fighter be a “game changer”?This is the latest incarnation of the imperial tie fighter from the forth coming episode 7; “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. For those Lego aficionados this model joins the rank of Imperial close quarter fighters and their variants. The build itself was straight forward and enjoyable. It was a pleasant surprise that not too many stickers were required for application (only 4), because my nephew and I always make a mess! The new shaped pieces make the build a bit more interesting that said; Lego confirmed on-line that the heighted new pricing, for this item, was due to this introduction and manufacture costs. The fact that the fighter fires lasers is another nice touch, and the incorporation and replication in the form of 2 spring-loaded shooters adds to the detail. The additional two tone colour palate enhances the new design. The rotating antenna weapons are a new and troubling feature giving effective defensive protection, although they do not rotate that well. The red and black scheme does look great, the cockpit is remarkable with red transparent screens and seats/controls for both crew members are well done too. The booklet and instruction manual are easy to follow and was well produced. This Tie fighter looks like it emerged from the “Dark Side”.It doesn't offer as much as far as playability with the spring loaded shooters being the only feature. The 4 mini-figures are good quality with lots of detail, I really like the new helmet for the pilots and the variety of outfit for the officer is a good touch. This is 2 seater tie fighter, has pilot for front seat and rear seat gunner. It looks like the imperial officer and Death Star trooper are thrown in there for a little something extra. Overall there is nothing to complain about the set itself, however, we haven't seen the movie yet so we do not know if anything is missing or not. This is a good themed set and will be a great add on for anyone who collects Tie Fighters for your Star Wars collection or just wants a stand-alone set. Please note the price can vary for this item, so best to shop around to get the best price..

Part of the new Force Awakens series, this model adheres to the usual excellent Lego standards. The finished model looks terrific, and has good playability due to the opening cockpits, 4 mini figures supplied, flick shooting guns and moving turret. Some tips on the build:- The wings seem flimsy when attached and don't clip into place easily. This (in my case) was due to the little claws not gripping the bars properly. Solution: remove the black flat pieces on the outside centre of the wings so you can see the clips making a connection and coerce them into full lock.- Place the central black circle bricks on the outside of the wings before you attach the sticker so you can line the logo up correctly- The moving turret doesn't swivel round so it can point rearwards as it should. If you want it to point back for the rear gunner however you can quickly click out the turret end and put it back in reverse.I would comment that the set is very, very expensive for the amount of lego supplied; even more so than normal lego standards and even other models within the range. The build is relatively quick due to the number of duplicated steps on a mostly symmetrical model; and £60 is a lot of money for the time involved. I would be looking hard for a bargain on this model, though with the hype around the new film this might be difficult. It is a great looking finished product and the model designer has done a great job, you're just going to have to weigh up whether it's worth the money involved.

This is a great set that has taken the conventional tie fighter, and updated its design in line with that of the Force Awakens. The value for money here is good, and the set is complemented with a decent line up of characters, in particular the moulds and designs of the two fighter pilots are outstanding! The set has a very good 'swoosh-able' factor, and kids and teens will easily be able to pick up the model and play with it thanks to its sturdy internal structure of Technic beams. The inclusion of room for two mini figures inside the build is good, and the spring loaded shooters add play value to the model. Sadly, the iconic hexagonal design on the wings are not repeated on both sides, but rather, a grey plate is used on the inside faces to add structural integrity. Whilst necessary, it detracts slightly from the overall look of the ship. Over time, the cockpit flaps may loose their ability to stay completely sealed, but overall, this set looks good and feels good in the hand. The build is rather linear, simple, and easy to follow- but lego fans and children of all ages will still find it to be an enjoyable build. No doubt, in time this set will become highly sought after, so it holds good value to collectors as well.Pros cons-Easy to play with -fairly high price-good build -could do with a bit of extra detailing-great figuresAll in all, I would really recommend this set, and it is a great edition to anyone's star wars collection!

Lego have produced several models of TIE Fighters in their Star Wars range before, but this new model taken from the forthcoming film has a number of new features. First there's the new colour scheme of course; the fighter now looks extra sleek and menacing in red and black. The cockpit has received a major overhaul, and now fits two crew members, with opening top, front and back hatches to accommodate them. Two spring-loaded missiles and a new cannon to the side of the cockpit provide plenty of armament. The four minifigures included consist of two pilots, an officer and crew member. All are excellently detailed, with the new pilot helmets even featuring a breathing tube. The build is fairly straightforward and there are very few stickers to apply.Having two large identical wings means there's some repetition, but as the wings are fairly quick to construct it isn't too much of a problem. The finished model looks great and is surprisingly heavy. As always with Lego, the price does seem a little steep, but you're paying for good quality and the endless possibilities of rebuilding.Overall, another excellent addition to the new Force Awakens Lego sets, with more differences over previous TIE Fighter models than you might expect from first glance.

ITS STAR WARS, ITS LEGO, YOU NEED THIS IN YOUR LIFE - I should and could end the review there but for those who need more info.....I was born in 77 so Star Wars and Lego have probably played equal parts in my life. Now I have a 7 yr old son who I have imparted my passion for all things Lucas upon. He also loves lego and is actually really good at building these on his own. For me this combination of lego/wars is almost as good as a toy gets. The time you spend together with your child building Lego is just golden! No distractions, no playstation, just you, the boy and the tie fighter. Its easy to put together, nice spring loaded "shooters" and excellent detail on the figures. Its also really dark and moody looking so has some real menace about it. A couple of stickers add to the finish but only a few so no re-peeling and sticking again and you could live without them. Its pretty robust but you arent going to play heavily with it like a moulded plastic toy.My only gripe is the cost, it is probably over double of what I think its worth, but then I am still cross about paying more than £2 for a pint.

I toyed with giving this little monster only four stars, because, to be frank, it's not exactly beautiful. But, hey, this is supposed to be scary and evil and basically a kind of Messerschmidt 109 of the Empire. And then I noticed something I had never noticed in over 30 years of Star Wars (and indeed Lego) fandom: the guy (or guys) flying this thing has a nice big window but he can't actually see past the ginormous great panels on his left and right. It's like driving with blinkers! Maybe I'll revise my opinions once I've seen the new film that this Tie-fighter features in.Anyway, I'm quibbling. And this is fun to build as ever, feels quite rugged, plenty of whooshing and zooming fun to be had. It's a glorious addition to our mountain of Lego, now in pride of place, a position once occupied by the X-wing that now lies, dismembered like C3PO, under an avalanche of multicoloured bricks.

There is now quite a fleet of TIE Fighters available from LEGO. This First Order Special Forces TIE will be of particular interest to those who want a reminder of Ep. VII, as it featured quite prominently in that film. How does this TIE compare? First, the black with red highlights colour scheme is very striking, and a nice contrast to the blue-grey appearance of most other TIEs. Given the symmetry of the craft, there is inevitably some repetition involved in the process of building the wings, so younger builders will need to have patience. As for value, I was able to take advantage of an Amazon Prime offer. I would not have been so willing to fork out the silly sums that some older LEGO Star Wars craft seem to fetch,so if you are interested in this one I suggest buying before the price goes up.

This arrived quickly, another gift for our son to go along with his Millenium Falcon LEGO!! It is another top quality toy from LEGO, so we know to expect good things! It includes two TIE fighter pilots, First Order officer and First Order crew member. The cockpit opens to hold two mini figures and the shooters are spring loaded. It also has pistols and helmets supplied.Once put together it is quite big, sturdy and excellent quality The attention to detail is what you would expect from LEGO and Star Wars.It is recommended for 8-14 year olds and I would suggest adult help is required. Our 7 year old enjoyed putting it together with my help and it was a good project for the two of us to enjoy!!I don't have anything bad to say about this!!Well worth the price tag in my book!!

My sons and I love the Star Wars franchise and all agree that the Tie Fighter is one of the best ship designs in the series. This latest version has a sleek, Dark Side vibe to it that just makes it a beauty to behold. Assembly was quite straight forward and we were pleased that there weren't many stickers to apply (4), as we never seem to get them quite straight. My boys also LOVE the spring-loaded weapons, though considering the fact that this will be more of a decoration than a toy, I think it's a bit superfluous. Nevertheless, this is just a beautiful kit; so good it actually almost warrants the absurd price tag that seems to go with all things LEGO these days!

It took my 11-year-old grandson about a hour to build this item, without help, but he is pretty experienced in complex Lego models. He feels once completed it is an item for display not playing with. He found the wings to be quite flimsy to attach and the model quite easily broken if not placed carefully. The reason it takes about an hour is because you need to take time and press down the thinner pieces so that they connect properly to create a sturdy body. It takes up quite a lot of space as its wings are quite big but it is pretty impressive when completed.

This set is worth it being discounted. Only reason it got 4 stars is the wings do wobble slightly from side to side but dont fall off. Better to fix wings before step 22 so you can see if they are fixed properly. The tie pilots are difficult to fit in but its only because the main body has to be built a certain way. Only 2 stickers which is a bonus. It does look the bizz when finished though and bit more interesting than all the grey stuff i have. The scale is abit large compared to say vaders tie fighter. Have now dismantled and used parts for moc/mods

Very fast delivery and great packaging by Amazon! The build took me around 1-45 hr mins to complete but I had done it in stages. Once completed you have a huge tie fighter on your shelf! Its a great model that any one will enjoy and I plan on getting another for a collection as there's always two in the movies. So all in all its great though the inside panels could have had some details but I see why they didn't due to the size and weight.Edit:I've bought two now and Kylo rens landing ship. All is good I am very pleased with the new designs.

Having previous purchased and built the original Star Wars Lego TIE Fighter, I was worried this would be the same model with different colouring. I was wrong - this is an improved model with spring loaded missiles and a much sturdier canopy (which now fits two TIE pilots). It felt like a different build to the original model, and comes with more minifigures (which are nicely detailed, especially the TIE pilots).Overall - an enjoyable build that produces a striking model. Definitely worth purchasing if you can get it for less than £50.
