Occasionally LEGO come up with a Star Wars set which is either original or tied to an area of the franchise less well travelled, and Vader's castle is one such example. It does somewhat feature in Rogue One, but it's greatest role is played in the ILM virtual reality experience, Secrets of the Empire. It's a great build, with lots of nice little details and brilliant looking lava running down the front. The translucent orange pieces used to convey this are great to put together and it's a really nice effect. Around the lava there are substantial rock foundations to the castle, before building the black and grey levels above to the top of the structure. The finished model is sturdy with some clever techniques used to hold together each side of the pyramid-like shape. The castle is a little shorter than I was expecting when completed, but still looks plenty imposing enough. Also included is a smaller-scale version of Vader's TIE Fighter, which you can squeeze a minifigure into, however somehow the designer wasn't able to incorporate a proper viewport, so you can't see the pilot inside.Inside the castle there is a hangar for the fighter (sadly this doesn't feature a floor, instead using the surface you have placed the model on for that purpose), a bacta tank for Vader to treat his many wounds in, a meditation chamber with Emperor Palpatine hologram, and at the very top a small gun turret. In addition there are nice little details such as a hidden lightsabre and crystals plus a mouse droid.Obviously the set includes a great Darth Vader minifigure with the newer two-part helmet. Also included is an alternative Vader to sit inside the bacta tank for treatment, which looks superb. Next you get two Imperial Guards, which are a little more functional than the Vader figures and don't seem to quite be in the right place, as I'm not sure Vader particularly relied on the Guard for any protection. Finally, there's a shuttle pilot bedecked in pseudo-stormtrooper armour. This character is actually an undercover Rebel agent in the VR experience and is a great inclusion for the set. His armour is somewhat dinged-up in design and he looks very authentic.Vader's Castle is a great LEGO set and although it won't necessarily be familiar to all Star Wars fans, it is well worth a purchase as it's fun to build and looks fantastic.

This really is one fantastic Lego model!Taking several hours to build spread over two days and eventually standing over 40cm (around 16 inches) high, this really will make an impressive centrepiece to your Star Wars Lego collection.I found assembly to be at the easy end of the Lego scale, with nothing needing to be taken apart and reassembled. The instruction booklet was particularly good with over 250 individual steps detailing the build process. My only criticism is my usual one concerning Lego instruction books and that is that the colour representations are not always accurate and you sometimes find yourself looking for a grey brick that really should be black etc.Not a big problem and one I am sure any regular Lego builder has seen many times before. The recommended age for this model is 9+ and I would say that an enthusiastic 9 year old should be able to follow the instructions with minimal parental intervention. To be honest though, this kit is probably aimed more at the collector’s market rather than at children. The detail on the model is really impressive – the TIE fighter in particular is superb, featuring an opening hatch and room for Darth Vader to sit inside with the hatch closed! This alone makes this kit worth the money. The castle is brilliantly detailed too with many moving parts, opening doors, and a brilliant Bacta Tank. The tiny black droid made entirely of standard Lego parts is one of the most creative six brick models I have ever seen and is delightful!I really do have to put this at the higher end of my favourite Star Wars models to build and to look at and I also really should add that the finished result looks far superior to the images on the box or web.I’ve taken a few photos of the build and the finished result – please take a look at them too. Please note that illumination is not supplied – I just thought it looked really good with light coming through the red windows!A must for every Lego Star Wars collection!

The LEGO 75251 Star Wars Darth Vader's Castle Set is a great build. It took awhile to build, but once it was complete it looks great. With this set you get some great minifigures; Darth Vader, Darth Vader (bacta tank), 2 Royal Guards and an Imperial Transport Pilot. So, if you factor that in you get five good figures, which are pretty rare.We found the build a bit clumsy, considering it is at this price. I would have thought the foundations would be allot stronger. If you hit it slightly near the base, it does break to pieces, then you spend a bit longer rebuilding the base. We complemented this by adding extra spare bricks we had, to strengthen the base area. Obviously, we should not have to do this, but we had no choice. It looks impressive and it is more of a show piece, as it is Vaders castle. I would have preferred if it was a little larger, but you can't complain at the price. The figures are collectable and would retail for fifty or more, therefore the build is worth the price. It is Star Wars, but mostly it looks great in any bedroom, so a must buy from my boys perspective.

What a fantastic set - imposing, dark and brooding but with loads of play features and options - also captures the look of Darth’s Castle very well - especially the ‘lava’ at the front.Reasonably straight forward build and gives a good size model at the end.Note that there isn’t a lot overly new here when it comes to ships of figures. You get Bacta Tank Vader which perhaps is the best figure - normal Darth is the same split helmet design as seen in all recent sets. His ship has had a refinement since the Death Star 2016 version - in particular the wings stay on/together much more reliably than that version - that limited the play value in the DS set, so it’s nice to see they’ve improved it here - but it’s still very similar, with DV just fitting in and the cockpit closing over him.A very good set with a unique design in terms of the SW universe.

My son was delighted to get this. It is very well made, and he (15 years old) built it over one day. He liked the fact it has mini figures, which were really well made - better than other Star Wars lego mini figures he had before. But he did feel it was a bit small for all the lego storm troopers he has. He was particularly impressed with Darth Vadar's ship, which is included, which he says is incredibly well made - and he was really impressed with. For him, that was the highlight part of the set.I think this would go down well with any Star Wars fan for Christmas. It is straightforward and fun to build, and allows for imaginative play afterwards, within the Star Wars universe.

This set has good points and bad points. I wouldn’t say it’s good value for money, but it is a fun build. I like the unusual bacta-tank Vader and the meditation chamber. One of the nicest details would have to be the small ‘shrine’ with the mini Lego figures. I also like the look of the lava and how the set can be displayed on both sides. The set does feel fragile in places (some of the floors are slightly loose) but it does have play value. I would recommend this set to Vader fans - especially of the comics and Rogue One where the Castle were present

This has been a really lovely set which looked a bit larger tha expected but is now sitting pride of place to show off I the corner of our living room. It's really distinctive and looks greatInternally it's a bit of a disappointment with the number of rooms however the internal decorations of the room really are stunning and distinguishable from the movies

Nice design but desperately needs a base plate to give it the stability it needs. Feels a little under designed in places such as the meditation chamber which doesn't close well. Bought from Amazon's treasure truck at just over half price and that would be the correct cost of this set in my opinion.

Easy to assemble? I certainly hope not. It’s a HIGE box of Lego. If I’m not doing this all day on Xmas day then I won’t be happy! Bought off the Amazon Treasure to Go. Absolute bargain. I mean it’s LEGO Star Wars. And a Castle. And a tie fighter. And Darth Vader. Epic.

The boy had it for Christmas and declared it to be his favourite set. He has a lot of SW Lego so the 5 stars represents his view.I think it is more of a display set, rather than a play set.

I got this set during a deal of the day offer so it was fantastic value for money. Considering you get TWO darth vader minifigures, this set really is a steal!

My grandsons face was a picture when he opened this at christmas, great value to see such a big smile and it kept him busy for two days making it

Fantastic piece of Lego that sits next to other iconic Lego pieces from the Star Wars series.A must for collectors who display them.
