I think the theme of this set – motorsport – is a much-needed shot of adrenaline for the Lego Friends series. My one criticism of the previous Friends sets that my daughter has is that they’re generally themed around things like shopping, and as such they just don’t hold her interest in the same way as something like Ninjago, Superhero Girls High or even Lego City. As expected the finished set of this has been instantly popular, the simplicity of playing with racing cars is just timeless. The build itself is moderately tricky, with the main building featuring some very intricate sections. However, as always the Lego instructions are intuitive and reward patience. My five year old, something of a Lego veteran, enjoyed what amounted to a couple of hours putting this together. While slightly small, the finished building is packed with detail and playable areas.I’m delighted to see that this set has some related accessories – a tuning shop, awesome – so we’ll likely be building up a collection around this theme.

OK, so I know the box recommends this for ages 7-12, and I am considerably older than that, but I was secretly very excited to be able to ‘help’ with the construction and playing of this kit.It comes in a lovely big box, so you know it’s going to be just full of Lego goodness. There are five large bags of parts and two hefty instruction books. The pictorial instructions are very easy to follow, even for children on the younger end of the recommended spectrum. The kit builds into a really fab racing scene, with lots of working bits and surprises. Usual high quality expected from Lego, with lots of play value to spark little ones’ imaginations. I have to say that even though, initially, the boys were reluctant to play with ‘girlie’ Lego, by the time it was being built, they joined in.I love the way Lego brings together all generations for a truly immersive family experience.

This Race Day looks great once assembled. However...- the youngest suggested age to build and use this as always seems very optimistic, it's quite tricky and frustrating to put together so I think the older end of the spectrum seems more realistic- the many and tiny parts suit this design only but do not lend themselves well to other creations of your own- the "firework" effect launchers look great but will be easily lost- the included three figures and race cars look good but why always default stereotype colours. They can be female characters in cool cars and outfits without being pinks/purples and flower details right?- the three build yourself car launchers work really well on the right surface.Overall, this Lego is a great toy we just wish they were more open to other variations like the Lego of old seemed to be. More bigger bricks please Lego!

This set comes in well numbered plastic bags from 1 to 5 containing small, rather fiddly lego pieces. The thrill for my children is the actual building of the Go Kart lego kit rather than playing with the finished result. Piecing together The Big Race Day is rather like putting a puzzle together. The instructions are pictorial rather than descriptive, encouraging children to follow instructions irrespective of reading age or language, yet allowing for imaginative creativity. Add some stickers and this set entertains and occupies the children well.Aimed at the 7 year old to 12 year old market, this is a well thought out set which provides hours of fun.

It's good to see Lego taking the Friends sets in this direction; without being overt, the sets have always appeared to be marketed to traditional notions of female play. I'm not keen on the idea of Lego being gendered but if it has to be then a motor-racing set is perhaps a good option. There's a lot of detail in the carts and the 'VIP lounge' that goes with it. Even though the set has fashion-styled figures and even cats in it; it still feels like a full-throttle racing kit.Not a bad price for the amount of both build pieces and the resulting models. Lego's usual extremely high production values are in evidence as usual too.

I heard that LEGO is the most painful thing in the world to stand on bare foot and while I can't substantiate that claim I can say that this set is great fun! Personally, I have had great fun building the set and it does look great once assembled. It was a bit fiddly and my 2 have had more fun playing with the final product than actually building it up, after losing interest rather early on. Some pieces are a bit small and are in danger of getting lost, but overall it is very well made and will capture ther imagination for hours.

We love lego in this household and this set is no exception. It was easy enough for my 7 year old to build without any assistance, as always the instructions were well put together and showed her exactly what to do.The biggest plus of this set is its post build play value. My two daughters have had a huge amount of fun racing the cars on different surfaces around the house.

Well in fact, the girls love it. My nieces have now spent the last two hours playing and I feel this will occupy them for hours on end.Usual superb craftsmanship from Lego and the zillions combinations you can build with the brick and pieces will really give hours of fun.Added in the mix the diversity of the character and we have here a little big gem of a game.

Bought this for my Lego mad 7 year old who is addicted to building her Lego sets. She loved this and had it built very quickly. She has an area in her playroom where she displays all of her completed ‘works’. She was really happy with it.

This is such a popular Lego set and enjoyed by children almost up to 12 years old. So it has a good shelf life and is good value for money. Loads of nice accessories that accompany it and has a good play value. Pricey though.
