You may not have come across this series of 'Modular' LEGO buildings before, and thats because they're partly sold for the more competent builder (recommended age 16+). LEGO have had a great history of themes for the mature audience, and the Modular series has only added to their successes with great features such unique building elements, the Technics 'plugs' that allow you to link each building together, and the educational sensibilities that allows the user to, actually, learn about the construction and design of the building in its real state.In my honest opinion, I'm arguing this 'Fire Brigade' set is the best of all the modular buildings. Of course, I do have my reasons!+ The sense scale is just about perfect.What I found with other sets such as the 'Grand Emporium' were that the theme just didn't set well within the size of the building, almost making it ironic that a Grand Emporium would be the same size as a Green Grocers, and vice versa. Upon removing the 'layers' of this building (all Modular building sets have 'layers', so you can explore the inside), I get a genuine feel that the minifigures have the right sized space around them, and this really could be a nice little Fire Station in a town.+ The additions to the building, or more specifically, the small Fire Engine that fits wonderfully into the Station. This is the only Modular set to have an additional vehicle/other product to assist the architecture.+ The authenticity is fantastic, although upon saying this, all the Modular sets have had plenty of thought put into them. But this case is special, because the '1932' date on the building is a direct reference to how LEGO have designed this set - it really is based around a moment in time. The grey and red brick-work, the bell tower, the SMEG fridge and lots more contribute to something that looks so convincing. The Fire crew even have a Ping-Pong table to play with!+ Finally, I think it adds a bit of class to your set up. If I was to imagine how this would fit in my own LEGO city, it would be a historical landmark - a renovated museum that people could look around, much like old Lifeboat stations dotted around the country. Because of this I think the set will fit in anywhere, as now town is without a Fire Station!So in short, also taking into account the fantastic "Brick-to-Price" ratio (almost 25% better than, say, the Imperial Pirate Ship!), this is a real steal when you consider the research, the design and the detail that has gone into making this product, as well as taking into account that sets costing more often offer less. Whilst I wouldn't want to deter customers from shopping at Amazon, I will simple say "look" at LEGO's own website to see the price difference.Also, if you're considering a purchase then don't wait too long, as its shelf life is about to run out.

I joined a friend's son building this and it was clearly quite a challenge. It has a distinct American flavour, which adds to the interest. He thought it was the 'Ghostbusters Firestation'. But why do Amazon persist in supporting these Rip-off merchants who sell Lego at double the price of the official Lego Shop? Apparently you can tell Amazon about cheaper prices till you are blue in the face, but they still only offer goods from these huge mark-up sellers, rather than rom themself! Buyer beware! Go to Lego first, even for rare items, they only charge RRP.

Love this. But got it through the official Lego website for £50 less...Would definitely recommend - my eleven year old daughter put it together in about 2 days.
