Many players select chess sets for the artistry of the pieces as well as size, material etc. This `Fold-Up' set is very similar to standard Staunton chess pieces but somewhat crudely carved with a 2½ inch King. However the rough and ready pieces in whitewood and stained brown are unlikely to chip or suffer other damage. They are fitted with felt pads which are really not necessary for the rather coarse board in painted black and white. Hinges and catch are flimsy and when folded to form a box for chess pieces the overall dimensions are little more than 10 x 5 x 1½ inches, and when open the board is a satisfactory 9½ x 9½ inches. But hey! Enough criticism. This 'value for money'

I am so happy with the purchase of folding chase game set .,but recently I bough a shape cutter set of 24 pieces , before purchasing when I saw the actual picture on the screen was one thing and when I bought it and by the time delivered to me and once I opend the box it was just like a toy set for children and it was very small and I won be able as a adult to use it for making buiscute or cookies to shape with this cutter , therefore I kindly request you to show me how to send or return it back to Amazon .. Thanks and it is less than one week that I purchased the shape cutter set ...

Great value standard wooden chess set purchased for my 6 year old Grandson who improved his game considerably over Christmas. The only slight drawback is that the King is very similar to the Queen but slightly larger. It does not have a well defined cross on the king as shown on the box. I painted a gold cross on each King to clarify. The box serves as both storage for the pieces and a good sized chess-board. Use a large mat or cloth to protect polished tables from scratching or stick felt spots on the wood.

This is a really good starter set. Got it for my children and it has managed to withstand some rough handling and is still in perfectly new condition. I am amazed at that in itself. Good size, could almost be a travel size game and the pieces all fit very nicely and easily into the board which folds up to become the storage box. Yet still the pieces are not too small and fiddly to handle. I am very pleased with this.

I bought this as a starter set to teach my daughter chess.Generally the set is fine and good value for the money. It's not finished brilliantly but I expect that with use it will mellow. The box is robust enough and all the peices fit in without too much struggle.A good set for general use. Nothing that you'd want to leave out as a display.

Luckily our 8-year old is careful with his belongings and looks after them but I wouldn't rate this board's chances in the hands of a more heavily-handed or clumsy child.Good old-fashioned travel board though. I'm enjoying the fact that I can actually beat him at something, while I still can.

I did not want an expensive chess board as I am using it as a prop in a play. This is actually perfect for my purposes and arrived ahead of the expected time. It is basic but perfectly adequate and for a chess novice like myself good value for money.

I bought this for a grandson, for his birthday. He wanted one as nice as his Granpy's. So we chose this and it was super. The pieces are wood and chunky for younger hands. It all folds up with pieces inside. Lovely

I was satisfied with the board and with the chessmen - it was delivered in good time and packed well.But I would have liked to have had some instructions inside as it is quite a while since I have playied chess.

This product was delivered quickly and was of good quality especially if you take the bargain price into consideration. I only bought this for a occassional game and it easy to put in a cupboard when done playing.

Arrived on time, it was purchased for an 8th birthday present. Opened to check contents all in order. Not yet played a game but looks the part for a starter kit to get them into playing the game.

Bought as a Christening present for my 9 yr old Godson(I know he's a bit old to be getting Christened!)It arrived within the allotted time and I was surprised that it's 3 sets in one! Bargain !

The chess pieces are VERY standard, and so not very interesting, but you also get to keep them in the box/board when it id folded and you get draughts and backgammon - so very good value.

This chess set is ideal for a beginner - inexpensive but not flimsy, and the pieces ar quite clearly distinct, unlike other small set where the bishop and queen may be hard to tell apart.

Neat wooden chess set where the pieces are stored inside the board so you don’t loose them. Not exactly full size but plenty big enough for a proper game. It’s been great for us
