I was looking for a general purpose light that was small enough to be worn on a belt or put in my pocket. One use is for work where I carry it with me for looking in computer equipment. Another use is just as a second light when I go out for long walks at night where I use my LED Lenser H14R.2.The focussing lens is amazing. You can get a fantastic flood or a good spot for distance or anything in-between.I've only had it for two days/nights but it has been given a good work out at night.First of all, a focussing lens is a revelation for what it can do with each lumen. The low setting of 20 Lumens is surprisingly good even for walking where it is used in flood but it can still spot well to 70m or more!I was very surprised I have to say. The human eye is such that you can see well with this torch at 20 Lumens. The 270 Lumen normal power mode is very bright and will spot to 200m or more, they claim 230m and it is pretty accurate I would say.The battery life is more than adequate and it does evidently step down with time but I didn't really notice it.You should remember it has only one 14500 custom cell in it, 700mAhr so it won't burn for hours at full power but anyone expecting full power for an entire night obviously needs to look at a bigger torch with a bigger power source. The cell is a custom built one so you can't just put in another AA (they recommend against it).The charger is actually pretty cool. It has a magnetic attachment which attaches to the end of the torch. I have used this by lying the torch on it's side without the holder but using the holder is better and no reason not to use it I guess. I have used cable ties to tie it to a column in my workshop shelves. It actually hangs from the magnetic holder while RESTING in the holder. It is innovative and it actually works very well. The charger attachment just clips into the end of the holder and is secure. It glows red to indicate charging and green when charged. It is very nifty system and well thought out.It has a 360 degree belt clip which is very robust but the clip really holds it in securely so much so it takes some force to remove it. It is small enough to easily fit in pants pocket which is how I carry it. I have also attached the lanyard which I think is a good idea for such a small torch. The focussing mechanism can be operated with one hand just pulling or pushing the head of the torch and works very well. The zoom can also be locked but I see little point as it is so easy to adjust. The on/off switch is quite stiff but I'm sure the idea is that it would be difficult to turn this on accidentally. There is a locking function but I haven't bothered with it, I don't think it is needed.I notice if I look into the lens it says 'patented'. It might explain why, except, for cheap chinese ripoffs, no one does much with focussing lenses. I expect when it comes out of patent, you will find a LOT of torches from Zebralight and the like will suddenly decide a focussing lens is the way to go. I do!Finally these guys give 5 year warranties which is pretty amazing and no doubt costly so when people bitch about the price they need to keep this in mind!I see no down side to this torch except that the battery is small and it will limit the time you can use it but it down regulates to give you several hours use on normal 270 Lumens or 7 hours on 20 Lumens. The only other downside is I think focussing lenses because they have to move, they have a hard time making them immersion proof and these are IPX4 which is basically rain proof but they won't stand immersion in water. This is an impressive bit of technology and is worth paying for.

I bought this to replace my original P5 which I lost after several years of faultless service. I already knew that LED Lenser torches were durable and very high quality so had no reservations about parting with my money. I know they aren't the cheapest but you get what you pay for here.I use my torch every day for work so opted for the rechargeable model as I got sick of putting batteries in my old P5. The rechargeable cell supplied with this looks very similar to an AA battery but is in fact a totally different voltage so you cannot use an AA battery if you happen to run out of charge.Charging system is quite neat, a magnet holds the torch in place on the charger and there is a bracket supplied for you to mount it somewhere if you wish. It's a USB charge cable and comes supplied with a mains adaptor but you can charge in the car from USB cigar lighter adaptor if you have one. The magnet is strong enough to hold the torch in place pretty securely, I mounted mine vetically in my van and although it swings about a bit around corners I've yet to have the torch fall out of the charger while driving.Torch has 3 modes which you switch by quickly pressing the single button on the end of the battery case. Bright->Dim->Strobe.There is a belt clip in the case but it seemed a bit cumbersome to me so I've never used it. I was disappointed that this does not come with a carrying pouch for attaching to your belt. Luckily my old P5 did so I have one, but that's not going to help you.My only complaint is that the battery life in bright mode is pretty short. I'm a mechanic so use it for checking brakes and stuff and I've found I have to charge it every night because I can't get 2 days out of it. Once the battery is getting low the torch will give you a warning flash but not enough warning for you to do anything about it. Once mine flashes then it's flat 2 minutes later and it just refuses to switch on, and as you can't use an AA it is then totally useless until you recharge it.Although I'm a bit disappointed by the battery life I would still have bought it if I'd known about it before. It's not a problem as long as you remember to charge it every day.

This is a marvellous little torch, especially when adjusting light between a wide short distance beam and a longer more focussed beam. I like the two power intensities, the lower one is just right for walking and the higher one for seeing ahead or moving faster. The torch design could be improved for people who use it while walking who normally prefer not to mess up their night vision with the higher intensity setting. After a month, I still usually take about six tries to turn on the lower power. There must be a knack to giving it a light press followed by a stronger press to turn on the low power light. If it remembers previous use, it might think I actually like to be dazzled when I turn it on.When its battery is running low, I think it drops to the lower power output, but that doesn't help if that is the one you normally use. So for me, it just turns off suddenly in the dark, far from home. The only hint may have been that that time I managed to turn on the low power setting more easily. The charger has a red led light while it is charging, or (at least some times) if the torch isn't positioned just right in the charger. If the charger light doesn't eventually turn green it may not be charging, but the only way to tell is seeing an initial short green flash. This doesn't help if you touch the torch after the red light has come on.These problems are minor, and easily coped with. I will just have to learn how to avoid them in use - my recommendation is don't let its battery go too flat and don't rely on charging it in a hurry. I hope all my failed uses of the switch don't make it wear out prematurely.

Great product which I got a few of these as presents for people as I have owned the previous version for almost a couple of years now. With this version they seem to have changed the mode selection. It seems that this one cycles with each button press the mode and remembers where it was, which is great for dim and bright main but panic strobe can not be quickly selected it appears. Most likely the least used function for most people but it would be nice to have a double click to enable it only. Dim to bright works perfectly with the mode cycle but a pain when the third button click gives the strobe.I'd buy more of these as they are good albeit a little more expensive for the rechargeable versions.I paid £60'ish for each of them.

This is a solid and robust piece of kit. The end pushes in and out to focus and it really is very bright - possibly too bright. It may actually be too much if you wanted to find your way around a dark shed or something. If you wanted to pop something in your pocket when walking the dogs or for spotting wildlife, this would work quite well. The recharger is innovative and it works well.Another bit of good LED Lenser kit (I’m a big fan of the Petzl gear).

Have only had these for a few days but what an amazing little torch. Use this for dog walking and it's excellent, so bright for a tiny little torch. One hand focusing is excellent and the build quality is great. Having it on flood is really good - such a wide beam/cone of light. Cars can easily see the light from the torch against their cars lights so great for walks up lanes in the evenings.

Outstanding performance from such a small torch. Well worth paying the price for the quality of this product. Probably the best torch I have ever owned. The brightness and distance of beam this torch can provide has to be seen to be believed. Recharge times are quick and battery life very acceptable. I'm very pleased with it.

Excellent product. Well designed and well built. Highly recommend it. This is the second torch I have from Ledlenser, my other one is the biggy rechargeable one with the .5 mile beam. I use it every day in the winter for 40 minutes or so and it has worked perfectly for the last 10 years. Great company.

Amazing torch, really bright and also has a lower power mode. Small enough to carry everywhere and it can be charged using a USB port. You can also focus using the torch head.I have a couple of other torches from LED Lenser as well and would highly recommend this brand.

Quality product, great power once fully charged and battery lasts a long time with daily use. very small and perfect for keeping in a car or your pocket if out walking late. Storage case which comes with it is cheap quality plastic but keeps charger etc. together neatly.

I have two of these because for ease of portability and weight they cannot be beaten. I have many torches from many different manufacturers but this one is by far worth its weight in gold. Powerful and exceedingly bright they become an essential part of your kit.

Had this for a couple of years now and find the light to be as good as ever, battery life is still great, not sure how long they are going to keep stocking spare batteries cos I am not likely to need one for quite some time ☺

24.11.2014

Battery life is limited on fully brightness but charging with the dock is quick. Full brightness is not always necessary I usually double click to reduce it to the lower brightness.

Excellent torch. Extremely powerful beam with very controllable focus system. Very clever magnetic charging station. Perfect size for fitting in handbag or pocket
