For the price, it's a good starter microscope. There are a few sample slides, so we bought a pack containing loads (which was quite pricey, but ultimately worth it when we watched the kids checking out all the different things under the microscope).. we were then on the hunt for other things to try.. so we pulled out some hair.. and popped on some grains of sugar (pictured). It's been good to leave it around for the kids to come back to.The High magnification is pretty useless, but Low and Medium are good.. and reasonably easy for a 5yr old and 8yr old to get into focus (and generally, when an adult sets it, it's correct for nearly all the slides). The LED is very bright..we use it with sunlight most of the time. I found that switching out the viewing lens to one that's less magnified (supplied in the box) is a bit better for seeing slightly less detail, but getting to see more of what you're looking at.

I bought this microscope for one of my uni projects, as an art student I was hoping to get some interesting imagery through the lens as visual research, and that's exactly what I got. I'm no expert on microscope quality/pricing but I feel that this item is brilliant value for money. It is easy to use even for a beginner, just pop 2xAA batteries underneath (screwdriver required) to use the built in LED light to illuminate your slides, or if you're in bright enough light flip the LED over to use the mirror. Easy to focus - just choose your power setting (low/med/high but low power seems to be enough...) and turn to focus. 3 prepared slides are included - they're brilliant! There's also everything you could need..blank slides, tweesers, petri dishes, vials etc. the only problem I have with this product is that I can't think of what to put under it next.. :)

This is a very good microscope for the money as an ex microscopist who was used to using a microscope that cost thousands, I was impressed with the optics of this microscope which I bought for my 6 year old granddaughter. We have had great fun with it I particularly like the top light so you can look at larger thick things such as blades of grass mosses etc. unfortunately this light seems to have a poor connection and needs jingling about sometimes to make it work. I now wish I had kept slides from my working days so that we had lots of really interesting things to look at.

Got this for my 8 year old daughters birthday. After 20 minutes or so she got the hang of it and learnt how to adjust the focus. She absolutely loved it but found it hard to get the light bulb to stop moving with every bump and wiggle. Also, could do with a book or handy guide and ideas for other things to view. She still uses it today (when she got cut she immediately placed some blood on a piece of plastic to see.....and took it school. She has a keen interest in science now, lets hope it continues.

arrived ''super'' quickly, good packaging and a pretty wonderful product.slightly on the plastic side, but works very well.it is possible to see cells at the zoom this offers, perfect detail and focus can be acquired with the right adjustments on the turret. specimens also come with the product witch can be looked at right out of the box.with a substantial zoom, LOADS of other accessories and speedy delivery it a perfect gift for youngsters...although im 16 :P

A reasonably robust microscope which I bought for my 9 year for her birthday. Comes with three slides to whet the appetite and then a list of experiments for your aspiring microbiologist which when my daughter comes back to it, will be really useful. Whilst she has yet to get going on it past the initial excitement - as grown ups, we are having a ball - straight back to school and just being really thrilled with experiments- almost forgot who was the kid!

5 stars as it's not the products fault however I NEVER PURCHASED THIS ?!?!?! I have never owned any form of microscope (nature tells me that I should) but I NEVER PURCHASED THIS ?!?!?! Still it looks alright on this wee image. Baffled, paranoid and thinking maybe I unintentionally and unwittingly live a double life I will continue avoiding work and hark back in mine memory and think did I ever buy a microscope and more to the point WHY ?!?!?!

Really nice little package bought as a birthday present for our 8 yr old. The light could do with being a bit stronger to allow you to view thicker leaves a bit better, for example, but the enclosed slides are great and our kid has a real hunger to go out and hunt for this to try this with. His face after his first close up view of actual cells was a picture. Great purchase.

Bought this for my 11 year old daughter and it was a real hit as a Christmas present. She has looked at all sorts of things including her own blood and saliva! I would recommend a set of the prepared slides too as the prepared slides with the microscope are a bit limited. Overall a nice entry level microscope that is well packed with good accessories.

Good beginner microscope, lots of extras such as slides, pipette, spatula. My 10 year old son thinks it is good. However, I find the focusing is a little loose, making it move from the area that you are focusing on when you let go of the knob. In general, adequate as a first microscope for this age & for the school projects that it was bought for.

Excellent starter kit for a child with some very good pre-prepared slides plus plenty of spares for interesting things you find yourself. Good light and easy to change lenses and very easy to focus (important). If you're researching a cure for some illness, it's not for you. If you're 7 years old and want to look at a flea, it's perfect.

This is a great little scope but unfortunately I thin I hogged it too much and my Nephew (5) lost interest quite quickly. I managed to walk him through how it works and have a look at a very small spider but the iPad won out on Boxing Day so hopefully this won't get shelved and never used again as it is really good!

Don't expect the world's greatest electron microscope but, for the amount you will pay for this instrument, it is well worth the money. Even I got a lot of fun out of it before passing it on to my young nephew. (I did buy it for him, after all).It was well packed and fast delivery. I recommend this item to others.

Bought this for my 12 year old nephew's birthday, he's a science buff! His mum said she's never seen him as engrossed in anything as this microscope. He says it's better than the ones at school. Seems a great piece of kit for the price, right in between too cheap to be useful and too expensive for a casual gift.

Bought this for my Grandson's 5th birthday because he was showing interest in small things, including insects. He loves it and uses it on his own when Dad is not available to guide him. I think this is a present which will last and far better than the cheap toys which usually surround our little ones.
