I bought this for my 4 year old son to help prepare him for primary school and to improve his writing skills. The case is sturdy and attractively designed with a space at the back to store 1 book. The Leapstart comes with one short sample book, has a headphone socket and takes 2xAA batteries. The books clip inside the case and the contents must then be downloaded through the leapstart app via a computer, phone or laptop. The books have several activities inside which can often be adjusted in difficulty, there are stories, puzzles and also sticker reward charts which my son loves. The books come with different age recommendations and different themes such as robots, school and exploring. My main criticism of the Leapstart is that it does not have the option to use a power cable or recharger cable instead of batteries. Another big negative is that the books are all read with American accents and occasionally use American words which my son was not familiar with. The books currently sell for £9.99 which is a little pricey as they do not have a lot of replay value especially once the sticker charts are completed.Overall I am happy with this product, my son has enjoyed the activities and has learned new skills. I hope there will be an option to use English accents in the future.

I like leapfrog educational products and this one is a great so far. Took a few minutes to register and download the books and away we went. One of the things I particularly liked when downloading the books, was the option to choose a British accent. The American accent can be really annoying as I have learn from other Leapfrog products. The box comes with the leapfrog leapstart, a sample book and the USB connector for downloading the books. Unfortunately, the books have to be purchased separately which is an additional cost as they can vary anywhere from £7-£15. Argos currently has a buy two for £15 which is the best I’ve come across so far.It took some practice with my 3 year old son to use the book and the stylet but eventually he got the hang of it. My only pet hate is the stylet as it’s a bit too chunky and fiddly for smaller hands. Would have been better if it was slimmer and more pen like. Also, find that there is a lot of talking before you can start an activity which I find a bit annoying as well. Other than that, it’s a great tool to help with your child’s academic learning from an early age and grows with your child as they progress from preschool through to year one. Would make a great birthday or Christmas present

I would give this a 5-star rating if they did British-accent versions of the books. However they all seem to have a really annoying American accent, and my daughter has started copying it!My daughter is 22, and it only holds her attention for 10 minutes or so at a time. I thought she would be more into it, but the content isn't as good as I thought it would be and there is a lot of waffle when you taps on things. For the level 1 books there should be more emphasis on just sounds effects, or short, clear sentences, rather than long sentences being spoken.I think it she will grow more interested in it as she gets older though. One thing I didn't realise when I purchased it is that you have to download the interactive software for each book you buy seperately,so setting it up the first time was a pain as I had to connect it to our PC.I've seen a few people complain about the targeting of the stylus, but my 22 months old seems to be able to use it just fine so perhaps they have updated the design.

The Leapfrog learning center is ideal for children to get a head start on reception and build on there learning experiences whilst in early child development. The Leapfrog leapstart is the ideal tool for kids to begin the learning journey. There is enough content here to get children going, and what I like most is that kids can go at their own pace as well as giving them some control of when and how they wish to utilise the device. The exercises are genuinely fun to do and does make learning enjoyable. Also, there is further content that can be purchased as well as audio content that can be downloaded when connecting via your PC, which is really easy to setup and install. This gadget certainly does offer value for money from the outset,a modest sum of around £30 will get you up and running with further content that can be purchased that will continue your child's development.

For the price I paid I thought this thing comes with some more activities not only few simple ones in the sample book which can be finished in 10min by a 4yo:(The idea behind this is that you always need to buy books that will go with this device and the books are quite expensive (abt£10/one) for a few pages. The good part abt it is that you can change books according to your child age and preferences, I’m also glad I will be using this with my other son that is only 1yo now-when he grows a bit; but the bad thing is that all of them, the device and the books are too expensive for the activities offered, I can’t afford to buy them unfortunately so we are using 2 books only

Vtech is a name we have bought for our grand and great-grandchildren for some time and have found them to make good quality products. This is as good And is the starter pack for the interactive books and comes with a 14-page sampler book to get started with. After this, you can buy the interactive books for about £12.99+ each.It is 3d and tactile and by using the stylus with the book, the child interacts more than just point and touch.Although the included book would interest the younger end of the age range aimed at, overall this is well made and versatile, although may be expensive in the long run, hence 4 stars

It's is a great piece of kit. I find it a bit dear for what it actually does and the need for a pc and Internet connection to download and transfer the books to its limited space is annoying.Other than that the device itself is great. Think I enjoy it as much as the child. The games are interactive, educational and fun. You learn without realising so it seems. It has aided in my child's reading a lot. We do read with her a lot, she is switched on but her reading has come on so much since buying this and adding a few books to it. The books could do with more story content but that would be a review of the books!

This is a really excellent learning tool for children, the recommended age group for this particular item is 5 - 7 years. Tested by a six year old, this has proved to be a stimulating and interesting product that will be of great benefit - learning and having fun, whilst using an electronic gadget has got to be a success for both kids and parents. Two AA sized batteries are required, but are not included in the pack.Appears to be very tough and robust, easy to carry around and fit into a regular sized school bag.One book is included, but there are many more in the range that can be bought separately.Excellent.

This is a sturdy book and a very decent toy. However it is expensive and if I’d known that I had to buy additional books to go with it I probably would not have purchased. Also if I’d know I had to download the content on a laptop and connect the book to the laptop to download it to the boom I definitely wouldn’t have bothered. It’s way too much effort for a 3 year old and even my 5 year old gets bored of it too quick for all the hassle and expense of it.

Love this toy. Helped my daughter with Down Syndrome to read. Multi sensory. She was able to listen to the story at her own pace using the pen, then remembered the words and really gave her confidence in reading. My son who’s 8 and is a good reader also enjoyed it. Lots of hours of fun with this. Recommend using rechargeable batteries for this as batteries go quickly due to the children living this toy

In practice this product is pretty good. However it runs on the somewhat antiquated AA batteries!! Which are used up as soon as you have downloaded the audio files to accompany the books!!! Madness! I also can't seem to make the accent Queen's English. All that said my 4 yo soon to be a reception starter does enjoy them. And we have purchased the preschool version for my 2 yo son.

The product is good overall as a learning tool. Just bought one book to use with it. Would have expected better performance due to considering its being handled by toddlers. Have been facing system being stuck for a while until it’s force restarted. Need to check if could get this resolved with the product company

I may enjoy this more than my little boy at the moment but consistency is key. Such a great tool for teaching kids from 2 years and up. There are different level books you need to purchase separately with this but they are fun and educational. Perfect for taking with you when travelling to keep your kids busy.

This product is fantastic, it's helped my 4 year old daughter with her writing skills and makes learning fun. She has really progressed at school and her teacher recommends this boards. All preschoolers and primary children should have one. The books are expensive but I've managed to get them on offer.

This is a fantastic educational toy for younger primary school children. It has a range of activities that engage and teach the basics of reading and maths. You do need to buy books for the system separately - well worth it to build up the library of your child uses the Leapfrog system regularly.
