I paid £25 for the leaped 3D during amazon's prime day and rating is based on this price. The leapad has a very clear voice and is very easy to hear and understand. I bought it for my 2 year old and it is a bit difficult to explain to him to press the star to play the games which is why it's good that he can still press on anything and the leaped still responds. The Little 3D screen helps keep my toddlers attention which is good. I would say that he would probably be more engaged when he hits 3.Pros1) Clear and easy to hear voice2) 3D screen gives a small animation to keep younger children more engaged3) Different available books for different agesCons1)The spiral spine on the books isn't big enough so turning the pages without bending the page in the spine is a bit difficult2) The leaped only comes with an a small example book therefore really requires you to purchase other books to properly use3) American terminology is used throughout4) can not charge through USB cable which seems rediculous as you use it to load books on it. Therefore you will need a large supply of batteries or rechargeable onesWe have only used it for a week or so and I see it being used more from about 3 onwards. To buy the add on books which you really need to and you are looking at between £10-£15 each. I would say the add on books are overpriced, therefore I personally would be reluctant to pay more than I did pay for the leapad (£25). I am reasonably happy with the purchase that it will grow with my son but it is a big investment in the long run.Edit: added photos to give a good idea of the size of the pad, pen and cord. Also added an example of an animation (from the pepper pig book) and what kind of pages you get in their example supplied book which contains 7 pages)

An update to my original review.Elsie really has got to grips with the LeapStat 3D and it really is an excellent teaching instrument but we, along with lots of others have to complain about the amount of batteries it goes through. Why not make it rechargeable? It’s very frustrating when the child is busy playing away and the batteries run out, not to mention the cost. Another bad mark against this mini computer is the way the pen is positioned. It’s ideal for right handed children but what about those who are left handed? More and more people are favouring their left hand for writing (if nothing else). Two of my three children and my Granddaughter are left handed and this little toy is far more awkward for her to use than her right handed friends.Apart from that she loves it but I have had to remove a star.I was curious more than anything when I saw this advertised on The Amazon Vine and as I have a Grandaughter who is nearly 1 I thought it would be useful for her in the future. My daughter in-law is actually thrilled to bits that I ordered this for Elsie as she is a nursery teacher and they encourage children to start using electronic and computer based toys from quite a young age (as well as the usual toys and books) as children use computers when they start mainstream school. As she is still quite young Elsie is just getting to grips with some of the activities on the Leapstart but she loses interest pretty quickly but as she gets that little bit older she will start to interact more with different aspects of the programme. It is a useful tool to get your little ones used to electronic learning devices and we are more than satisfied with the Leapstart.

I first got this Leapfrog 3D for my 3 year old. He has a speech language delay and at home he listens to Spanish and English, however, English is not his strongest language so I thought with the leapfrog 3d, it would help him encourage his language skills. I was more than surprised with his interest. He absolutely loves it. He is using it most of the day with different books. Even though he can't do the activities he is listening to all the words and some of the action words appear on the 3d screen so he is constantly repeating them. This helps him a lot to recognise the meaning of words by seeing it on the screen and listening to it.Pros- Lightweight. You can take it anywhere.- Appealing screen images catches his attention. This is great for visual kids.- Images and sounds are clear.- You can manage the sound level.Cons-Batteries is the main issue. In the space of a month, I had to chance the batteries twice. I made sure he doesn't leave the 3d on and things like so that to not waste the battery but I'd say it would be easier if perhaps instead of using batteries, this was charged via USB or something like that.- Books: There are many that are compatible with 3D and he can use this in his leapfrog but I think the 3D books are limited and there could be more out. The whole point is to be able to see images in the screen with this 3D reading system so I'd say there should be more books and images available, especially since this reading system helps to those kids who are more "visual" learner like mine. So they connect image-sound.Overall, it's a great product and I do recommend it. It's fun, appealing, innovative.

Set up was easy, and quick. Ideal visuals for the age group aimed at, Looks great.Downloading the sample book was easy and quick, and let’s you explore the books potential.Everything easy to do, Great graphics on the mini screen were super. These are like 3D to look at. Book is in a nice bright colour being white with bright green, orange and blue.Stylus pen is chunky so easy to hold for little hands. Also it’s permanently attached so can’t be lost. That's important if more than one operating the book. This is going to set them up for their first year at Primary school. The display makes the children interact with what's in front of them.I would say that It's a great learning tool which should give them a good start from Nursery to at lest the first year in Primary.I think it’s going to be a fantastic addition to learning about life. The sample book shows how it helps to count, read and recognise words and shapes. I’m excited to buy books of different types for this, and get the kids interacting with it. These are sold seperately and I've ordered some to see how the children get on.Very good. Top marks so far.

I like Leapfrog. My children have used various leapfrog devices over the years. They are educational in a fun way. They are well made and robust which is important for the age group it is designed for. This is good for pre school through to Primary school but it might be starting to get a bit 'childish' for the 6 or 7 year old who wants something more advanced. It says on the box for age 2-7. The 2-5 year old will probably get the most out of it. It helps with counting, reading and writing as well as other things. it has a pen designed for easy grip which is good for starting to write. It has a good library of interactive books and other activities which are sold separately which will keep this equipment of use longer.Don't forget to buy 2 AA Alkaline batteries when purchasing this. They do not come included. Surely for the price, 2 batteries could be included? Will keep a young child entertained at the same time as helping them learn. I would certainly recommend especially for the 2-5 year old.

This is an updated version of LeapStart, which has a small display screen, with sounds and animations. This does take a while to set up – you need to register the product, download software, etc. If you have a small child, it might be best to do all that before giving the toy to them, so they can play with it immediately. The good news about this is that you can use the old LeapStart books with this, should you have any; although, obviously, you will not have any animations. This does come with one sample book, but others are available to buy. The book you receive does have lots of early learning activities in it, but you will probably want to get other titles.Although suggested for ages 2-7,I would probably say 2-5 is a more realistic age. I doubt that children of 6 or 7 would find much to entertain them. However, for younger children, this is a lot of fun and very interactive.

This was a hit with our 3 year old daughter-she got how to use it immediately and was confident with the stylus when we showed her how it works. It uses a combination of music, speech and pictures (both in the book and on the little screen) to teach various principles-numbers, letters, shapes etc. It needs 2AA batteries which are easy to put it.It comes with a sample book and there appear to be about 7 on amazon ranging in price from roughly £9-£16 each. The books with characters (Disney, Paw Patrol etc) seem to be the more expensive ones. The cheapest is only available to prime members, which is a bit irritating. This is fun and educational and the characters are cute and our daughter will have many happy hours playing with it,but it’s not cheap considering the main unit only comes with one sample and considering the price of the additional books.

Our house loves the leapfrog range! We bought this after I got the leap pen system years ago for my now 13 year old and now for my 2.5 year old. Although I think it’s targeted at a little older age group, she manages her way around the books with no problems, albeit a little heavy handed. Great for educational needs and learning. The little one loves it so much it’s the first thing she goes for as soon as she wakes up. We love everything about it, but the only downside is that it works on two AA batteries and with it it being a much loved toy we are having to change batteries every 2-3 days!!! We have over come this by purchasing a rechargeable battery kit,but with the cost of the unit and individual books maybe leapfrog should look at making it a rechargeable unit so it’s affordable to all children. Nether the less we still love it

A brilliant little tool that both entertains and educates little minds at the same time. Aimed at 2 - 7 year olds, this Leap Start helps with numeral and reading skills in a fun way. There are a range of books that are supplied at a cost to reinforce the learning skills and are available through Amazon. My only concern with this is as at a cost of £50.00 I would have thought the two AA batteries should be included and not have to be bought extra. Going though the Leap Frog programme with out little one I think this will be aimed more for 2 to 5 year olds as by the age of 7 I would, think most children will have or be rely to move on from this to a more advanced tablet.A good tool for pre-school X primary age children with a wide range of learning skills.

Can’t comment on use etc as this is an Xmas present but from videos and reviews etc I think I’ve made the right decision going with this little interactive book. My daughter is almost 2 and she is very clever and curios and I think this will keep her occupied and teach her a lot. The fact there is different levels for different age groups means it will last a few years. I will be purchasing the first level books to do her for this year and see how she goes. There is ones for numbers, letters, shapes, and even ones for learning manners with peppa pig! The range covers everything you would want your little one to learn. Looking forward to giving her this.

Brought for 4 year old. She loves it. Works with the full range of books not just the 3D versions. Only takes 2 AA’s so you need to buy good quality AA’s as the cheap ones will not last and the dreaded “Time to change your batteries” is the last thing you want to here when there is no where to stop the car. Standard small Phillips screwdriver needed to open the battery compartment. Can occaisionally crash when low on battery has always worked fine as soon as I have swopped the batteries over. Nice touch with the piano and other mini activities to play built in to the product. My 7 year old is jealous and says its better than her “old” one.

My 2 year old loves it, no complaints in that department. It's annoying you only have 2gb (I think it was), of storage so she had about 7 books for Xmas and 2 of them wouldn't fit on. You also need to download the leap frog app on your laptop to then download the book content. I should have looked into this before and got it ready for her to be able to use when she opened it. She loves the little videos and will be using for many years to come.It does drain batteries very quickly, one month after Xmas and we are on our third lot and she doesn't even use it that much!

My daughter got this for Christmas and loves it, she’s still getting the hang of it as the 3D pictures do not appear all the time and she expects them to.The only downside I found was, you have to download all audio and images for the system off a leapfrog platform you need to install on a computer then plug the leapstart in. We do not have one, so it couldn’t be used straight away until this was done. I don’t think that’s made very clear, especially when quite a lot of people don’t have a computer or laptop these days and have iPads or tablets instead.

My daughter enjoys this product but l was disappointed at the amount of 3D videos per page. The is around one every other page on the peppa pig book. So your paying a lot for a feature that is very minimal l think l would of spent half the money and got the none 3D one. The books are around £10 each.I also wish it had a case to store the books etc to keep it all neat. I’ve looked on line but haven’t been able to find one.You need a laptop to set it up and down load the 3D parts, it took me around 10minuets to set up and down load the books we got.

Does what it says on the box. Extra books very expensive though and extremely hard to get in libraries. The books also get damaged quite easily as the stylus is quite sharp.Kids lived it for the first few days but got bored quite quickly despite having bought a dozen books.Using high capacity rechargeabke batteries dont seem to last long at all. Literally recharging daily. Considering theres no moving parts and only sound and very small amount if light seems the device drains a lot when switched off
