The little girls that were my Alpha Pup testers are going to be 2 and 4 years in May. Both the sisters love animals so being a dog, Alpha Pup was an immediate success. Particularly so as the pup is the pink version so is very pretty and has a very vibrant appearance.Alpha Pup is made by Leapfrog, which is a well known make and trusted for quality. The pup is well presented in a very colourful and sturdy box which has lots of information on it to say what the pup can do. There is also an little Parent Guide and Instructions Leaflet. The product feels very safe. All the plastic is smooth and the soft fabric ears feel safely attached (I gave them a v good tug and they did not detach or even move).Batteries are required to make the pup talk and sing and these are included and already installed. The Battery compartment could not be undone by your little one as to gain access to change the batteries when necessary, a screwdriver is required to unscrew the compartment lid.On the back of Alpha Pup's neck is a little switch to turn on the sounds and also to adjust the volume. (Loud, is very loud!!) When the switch is 'off'' the pup can be pulled along silently which is handy when out and about or when noise in in-appropriate. Once switched on, there is a little tune and some barking and a suggestion as to what to do next. The simulated voice is an English Accent and very clear for a child to understand. When the child pulls the puppy along there are various sounds and when walking is stopped, puppy is silent. At the back near the tail there is a blue press area with one side for musical sounds - a little alphabet song that your child can learn and sing along with. The other press area is for the pup speaking phrases. When the alphabet buttons are pushed there is a word association for that letter and a little phrase and appropriate sounds. The front paws are more oval with sort of soft 'tyre' strip, so that when pulled along, Alpha Pup has a sort of wobbly movement which makes the little tail wag. The back paws are round. My tester sisters are not tall for their age, if anything they are perhaps a little shorter than average, and the pull along cord was too short for the 2yo. I believe that this has purposely been done as a health and safety aid, however if you want to lengthen the pull cord it is easy enough to undo the cord and take the pull along bone shaped handle off, attach some extra cord to the existing one and then re-attach the bone handle. Once the cord is lengthened it is imperative that the child is supervised in play - just in case of any mishaps.I would say that given the quality of the product that the price is worth it. Children these days seem to have far too many toys so it does not seem to matter what they are given, they can quickly lose interest. However I feel that given this Alpha Pup is an indoor or outdoor toy that it should get well used and loved.

This is a fun, pull-along toy for toddlers. It has wobbly wheels and the tail wags when pulled along by the chunky handle, which is useful and gives small hands something to hold, rather than just the end of a string. The lead that the dog is attached to is very short and can’t be lengthened – obviously to comply with safety concerns. The age suggested as suitable is 12 months to 3 years, but I imagine that it would be too short for a child to pull comfortably once they were over 3 (or if they are tall for their age). The Pup is plastic and easy to clean – only the ears and bow are fabric. The buttons are on both sides of the toy and are colourful and attractive. There are buttons for each letter (lower case)of the alphabet. If the letter buttons are pressed, they give phrases which include the letter name and sounds. For example, ‘q’ - “q, quiet, ssshhh, it’s quite time” “q (letter name) says q (phonic sound)”. There are also songs, commands and questions, such as, “may I sit on your lap?”To be honest, I am never really convinced that electronic toys really do much to teach children. They may help familiarise your child with the letters/sounds of the alphabet and it is good that both are given. Disregarding the educational functions, as a toy it has a lot of play value. It is a nice, stable pull along toy, with an attractive design. There are a lot of songs and buttons to press, all of which toddlers will respond to and enjoy playing with. The voice/accent is English and you have the option of either turning the sound off (useful if your toddler wants to take the Pup for a walk in a public place) or having two settings – low and high – if you want to turn the sound down. Overall, it is a good buy, but I would say you will get more value out of it if you buy it for a child at the lower end of the suggested age range.

Bought this for my daughter, who is 10 months old. It arrived today, so only took 4 days to arrive, which I'm happy with. It's a good sized toy, she's very interested in it, possibly the bright colours or the happy voice. She's currently sat trying to eat the lead, and has discovered that if she smacks at the pup it will say things and sing to her.The pup has a springy tail, which she seems to enjoy batting back and forth. He has lovely soft ears, three modes (off, quiet and loud) and he sort of 'waddles' along on his wheels when pulled. My daughter isn't walking yet and doesn't understand that she needs to pull him along, that will come in time, I'd still recommend this for the younger end of the scale though, she does seem very happy just smacking away at him and making him sing, pulling and chewing on his various pieces. The only downside of her age is that the pup will stop singing, mid alphabet, if he stops being moved, and will ask to be pulled along some more. When this happens she tends to lose interest and crawl awayAs has already been stated, I realise that the shortness of the lead is to prevent accidental strangulation, but I do think it's too short to comfortably pull along.

The LeapFrog AlphaPup is a really cute toy!My two year old enjoys playing with this. As she pulls along the puppy its tail swings along as it has a rubber base. The wheels don't roll uniformly and makes the dog kind of have a waddling effect! There is a button for each letter of the alphabet. One press of an alphabet button tells you "H says *insert phonic sound*". Another press says things such as "T, tail, watch my tail wag".There are two additional buttons one of which is a music button and another which seems to say random phrases such as "you're my best friend" and "will you pat my head".When the puppy is taken for a walk, the puppy starts playing tunes - the ABC song is sung in a very jolly voice!...If the child stops walking, the music also stops and starts again when the walk recommences. The only downside with this toy is that the lead is far too short. I understand that there may be health and safety issues with very long bits of string, but my two year old is leaning down to take the toy for a walk!...However, she has really enjoyed using this toy and spent many happy hours playing with it.Recommended.

I bought this toy for my one year old nephew, who is just starting to walk. Though he's not taking a deal of steps just yet, the AlphaPup has plenty of other features to keep him entertained, other than just being a pull-along.The dog I purchased is in 'LeapFrog' colouring, i.e. white and green, though it is worth noting that there are 'gender specific' versions available if your little girl is a fan of pink. Along his back are multi-coloured keys, each a letter of the alphabet. These can be pressed to sound out the letter, and also a word which is then used in a sentence. It's a fun introduction to phonics and the alphabet. The voice used is pleasant, cheery, and, most importantly,an English accent. When the AlphaPup is being dragged around the floor, his irregular wheels give him a bouncy little walk which set his rubbery tail wagging. He 'sings' one of three songs, pausing if your little one stops. Build wise, he appears to be pretty indestructible - perfect for younger children - though I'm sure his ears and tail will soon show signs of chewing.

Although the target age for this product is listed as 12 months+, our 10 month old daughter is just starting to walk and is fascinated by our (real life!) cat - so we thought this would be an interesting learning toy to try her with. The AlphaPup is well designed, the idea being that the child pulls it along to hear the Alphabet Song. The keys on its back can be pressed for alphabet and letter sounds, and there are also fun doggie phrases and 3 learning songs. The soft fabric ears are a nice addition to this plastic product, while the tail (although plastic) wags! As other reviewers have commented, this is probably not suitable for children much over the age of 2 as the lead (to pull the pup along)is quite short and it probably doesn't have enough variety to keep an older child entertained. However, as a relatively cheap and well built toy for a 12-24 month year old, I'm happy to recommend the LeapFrog AlphaPup (I even quite enjoyed playing with it myself!)

The LeapFrog AlphaPup is an adorable toy that teaches your child the alphabet, phonics and 'gross moter skills'. Recommended for children of 12 months and beyond, this cute pup can be pulled along by its bright pink, bone shaped lead handle. In movement it will wag its pink tail, and if switched on will sing the alphabet and bark. Whilst it is on, the child can also choose to just sit with the pup and press the colourful alphabet buttons on its side. In doing so the child will then be told which letter they have pressed. For example 'A, A for apple' etc.Over all this product is lot's of fun and well designed. The AlphaPup comes with felt ears (one with a pink bow on the side),and a big lead handle which is easy for little hands to grip. The one downside is that the lead it a little short. It comes with batteries, and an off switch for those moments when parents want some piece and quiet.

Our 18 month old girl really likes this toy.The body of the dog itself is plastic, with soft fabric ears and a partly rubbery tail. When the dog is pulled about its wheels wobble (rather endearingly) and it's tail wags happily. The music plays as the dog is taken for a walk and stops when the child stops walking. There are two levels of volume to be chosen from. The loudest I find is too much for indoors, but the quieter level is tolerable inside! The phonics re he letters are good, and it not only sounds the letters, but also puts me into context with a sentence including the letter... Eg. "A, Apple, I love apples". Or "I, itch, I have an itch".The biggest negative comment about this toy is that the lead /string to pull it along with is too short. This is. Great little toy to encourage your little one to walk further... It's suitable indoors or out.Recommend.

This is a simple toy but with plenty of learning built in. My 2 year old was immediately attracted to it and loves taking this little puppy for a walk. The string is just the right length for him. While he walks the puppy will sing the alphabet and other songs as long as he is being pulled along, which helps to encourage activity. There are buttons along the top of the puppy with all the letters on them, so when you press each one you can learn about the letter. These teach the letter names and sounds eg C says cccc (phonic sound) and gives words which start with the letter eg C - Car.The alphapup is so cute and has a very cheeky cute little face and wagging tail which definitely add to its appeal. It's a lovely toy, for age around 18 months+

Bought this for my daughters first birthday, as she loves pulling toys around the room and dogs as well. She was really happy when she opened her present and saw this toy. It's a very well built toy, my daughter has been pulling it around, bashing it about and being heavy handed with it and it still works perfectly. When you pull it around the room, it sings different songs and my daughter loves walking and dancing to the music. Also when you press a letter, it tells you the letter and gives a meaning for each letter, so for example A for Apple. Overall I'm very impressed with this toy and could recommend to any parent of a 1+ year old.

I won't be able to write a comprehensive review as I can't take it out of the box as it is a present for a one year old. What I love about this toy is that it looks substantial. Have you ever spent a good chunk of money on a child's toy only to find it looks cheap and doesn't look like you spent a lot of money on it even though you did? This toy aesthetically looks like it's price tag. The dog is very cute and larger than I thought it would be. I pressed some of the buttons and a cute sounding voice says the letter and gives an example in a sentence. I only wished I had bought this when it was £9.99 instead of dilly dallying.

This is really fun because it makes loads of sounds from the keyboard but it can be pulled around and used as a normal kind of toy too. I remember having a wooden version of this when I was young, this is much cooler! The string is reasonably short, so no strangulation hazard. The wheels are oval so the dog wobbles as it is dragged along. The best thing is that is is a fairly reasonably priced. I'm sure as parents we're fed up of all this plastic junk that costs a fortune. This is well priced and worth it for a change. Recommended.

A great toy that is really enjoyed. Sturdy and bright, it's both fun and educational. When each button is pressed it tells you the letter of the alphabet, then gives a cute little example of an action or word that begins with that letter. The string is quite short for safety reasons, so there are no worries about this hurting a child at all.A fab toy to help make learning more entertaining :)

We got this for our toddler girl as she loves trying to learn things her older brother does in school. She loves it!! It is easy for her to use and has songs and phrases to help her with her abc's. She likes to walk it around the house as she learns and is busy with it for ages. I think it is a clever way to engage young minds and keep them entertained at the same time. All in all, a good buy!

Brilliant toy for toddlers. It's a really cute singing and speaking dog with an English voice. Like all leapfrog toys the quality is excellent. I love the way the dog undulates with its off centre wheels as you pull it along. Ok the noises are going to be annoying after a while but your toddler will love it! I would highly recommend this. It's a great value for money product too.
