A lovely soft activity puzzle in which my child is beginning to be interested since it appeals to key senses: visual, through the highly-coloured illustrations on the one side, and the black and white patterns on the other; touch, through the 3D shapes hanging from the four tiles; sound, through the noises some of the 3D shapes "make": one shakes, one crinkles, one jingles, and one squeaks, if memory serves me correctly. However, I have only given this item four stars since I feel the attachments to the cot/cot-bed should be improved: given the location of the strings at the bottom of the highly-coloured tiles, the child cannot visually access this side in favour of the black and white-patterned tiles. To then locate the shapes within the corresponding moulds within the tiles, the puzzle needs to be removed from the side of the cot to be used as a toy the child can hold. I suppose this emphasises the versatility of the activity puzzle, but it would be nice if the child could also do this activity whilst in his/her cot. Possibly one could sew additional strings into the top of the highly-coloured tiles, but as a relatively new parent, I feel I would personally struggle to find time to complete such a task.

After reading the reviews I got this as a baby gift for a newborn nephew. I was really impressed with this when it arrived - it's a really nice gift to give, and even better than I was expecting. It comes in a nice box which explains all the features - one side shows the black and white bit and explains it's aimed from birth and how the patterns stimulate eyesight etc, then the box flips over to show the colourful side and explains it's use as a toy/shape sorter for older babies. It looks really well made, the colours and patterns are great, and each of the dangly animal faces has a different noise maker inside (squeaker/rattle/crinkles/jingles) which I hadn't realised before.I was looking for a gift that looked great, would actually be useful for the parents of a tiny baby, and will hopefully have lasting use as the baby grows. This was perfect - I'm sure I'll be buying it multiple times over the next few years!

Brought as a present for my daughter's first birthday. She absolutely loves it, opens it, closes it, turns it over, pulls the puzzle pieces out, puts them back. So as I see it, it's a great little gift. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is for one simple reason. It's advertised as being able to attach to a cot/crib, and although I wouldn't use it in her cot, a friend who was interested in getting this for her baby noticed it. The ties to attach it are only along one edge and can only be used for the black and white side, the puzzle side would be upside down. If ties were along both edges, not only would you be able to secure it better, but also be able to use both sides. That aside,it's a lovely gift at a great price.

This toy is amazing. Bought as a gift by granny, the black and white pattern managed to captivate my son sufficiently to make tummy time fun. (Believe me - this is no mean feat.) The toy stands up on it's own and is high enough for baby to see whether on their tummy or their back. It can also be attached to a cot.The other side has colourful animals and recessed rattles / crinckle toys, which almost have a shape sorter design. My 6 month old son is just begining to find these interesting, and I think this toy will continue to be of interest for months to come.Would recommend for all young babies, and this would probably be my gift of choice for friends babies.

Initially didn't review this toy because my firstborn simply wasn't interested. So it kind of was also around in the toy box until my second child arrived. For him it has been one of the favourites since he was a few weeks old. Initially he just liked looking at the monochrome patterns, then started to play with the animals, now at 7 months he rattles them and soon perhaps will start putting them to the right holes. Very few toys keep a child interested for 7 months so would say it's very good value for money :) As for the quality, it has been in our household for almost 3 years by now and still looks good.

I bought this lovely 'book' for my son at Christmas, he was 3 months old. I hanged it along the side of his cot and he loved it from the beginning. He stared at the black and white side and started to play with the little figurines as soon as he could. I have now changed it to the other colourful side and he loves it too. He now grabs the characters and chews the side away, so in the morning and in the evening, it keeps him busy before and after sleep. The only thing I would say, is that they should have put some way to fix it on top and at the bottom, maybe even use a stronger system. Overall great toy.

My four week old son was fascinated by this when we attached it to his crib. It is the first toy that he has shown any interest in and immediate started staring intently at it and trying to reach for it. It really helps to keep him amused in his crib while I have a shower or get dressed in the morning (something which his more expensive light show\crib mobile failed to do).I am very pleased with this purchase. It is a well made item and I'm sure once he outgrows the black and white images he will enjoy playing with bright colourful side with attached rattles.

We were bought this for our baby girl by a friend and we / she loves it so much I've since bought it for two other mums-to-be. For her first 2 weeks our daughter HATED having having her nappy changed, until we put this alongside her changing table and suddenly she was transfixed! She would stare amazed at the shapes and patterns and, thankfully, from then on nappy changes became a joy! Now nearly 5 months later she still loves it and takes a real interest in the different shapes, noises and colours.A fab toy that i would recommend to anyone with a young baby.

We bought this whilst I was pregnant with our son. Right from day 1 he has been fascinated with this. He's 5 weeks old now, and we still have it on the black and white side. He will stare at it for ages. We stand it up and line the side of his moses basket with it. I think this toy will be fab for months and months to come. When he gets older he can look at the coloured side, and then he can start fitting the shapes into the holes when he's older still. I love that you can tie it to a cot, lie it on the floor for tummy time or stand it up.

It's an amazing choice. My baby still doesn't get much of the purpose... but still is too young. Labels and yellow bookmarkers seems to be the most interesting thing on this puzzle for now (fine motor skills)... recently started to pay attention to the sounds of the attached shapes. Still can't squeeze the round shape ... but with time will.Still find it a perfect toy because it can accompany you and your baby during a lot of time and during a lot of stages of development of the baby.

At first, I was a little disappointed because my son didn't seem to get that you can use this as a puzzle. He still doesn't use it like that (10 months) but that being said, every morning he plays with it for a long time- looks at the pictures, examines all the bits and pieces and it simply keeps him entertained for much longer than any other book/ toy. I have no idea why. Quality is good and you can use the black and white side for when they are babies.

Young babies are supposed to see high contrast shades and from a few weeks old my daughter has seemed captivated by the black and white patterns. Now 2 months she has started to take an interest in the animals dangling in front of her, even starting to reach out for them when we get excited at her accidentally flailing about! With the colourful other side and shape fitting element, this should keep her entertained for more months to come as she develops.

Was unsure about this play book at first as I thought it seemed expensive. However, it is very well made, with lovely bright colours and I love the way it works on two levels - attractive patterns on one side and a simple shape fitting activity on the other. The animal design is lovely, the colours are nice and my baby instantly loved it. Best of all, I can hear her playing with it in her cot rather than wanting to get up too early:) Very happy.

I tied the book to the sides of my 5 month olds activity gym. He loves it when I hide the animals then make the noise from behind the book...he eagerly anticipates their return. We currently only use the black and white side of the book. His 8 month old cousin started playing with the other side, it did not need to be tied to anything as of course he can sit upright and can reach all the pages and animals himself.Great product.

Bought this for a newborn baby having researched baby's interest and attraction to black and white images. Initially we propped up the book next to him as he was laying on the floor or in his cot. It wasn't long before the black and white images especially caught his attention, fleetingly at first but gradually for longer periods of time. I envisage it being a favourite possibly until he's about 18 months old.
