I've always thought that anybody who buys an expensive scent without sampling it first must either have too much money or too few brain cells, because what is a heavenly scent to one person is sometimes the stench of Hell to others.But I kept reading so many reviews by people who said that this was just wonderful, that I crumbled. I certainly don't have too much money, so maybe I have too few brain cells... Anyway, I bought the stuff.And now it's my new all-time favourite.I know this is subjective, but here's my take on this fragrance. Unlike other reviewers, I can detect not even the slightest hint of fresh black ink, damp paper, or newsprint. It's definitely a vetiver-based fragrance, but,

Astonishing scent, like nothing I’ve ever smelt before! The opening has a disagreeable burnt odour, but once it settles down the heart notes last long and are thick; Ink, wet leaves, herbal smoulder and damp meadow smell. I find it a very ambivalent perfume. The dry down lasts an eternity!!I've read a few reviews complaining of the poor longevity of this scent, allI can say is the performance on me is supernatural. The longevity is abnormal, I can detect this scent the next day on both the skin and clothing, I can smell it on my shirts after they’ve been washed and are blowing on line!! This is a niche fragrance, hard to find and an excellent bargain for the price. It is really a masterpiece in my opinion, if you can imagine those days after it has been raining, you know those slightly grey, cloudy, damp days? You get that wet freshness in the air, you can smell the wet city concrete from the pavement and wet grass from the surrounding parks. This is where Encre Noire takes me, and where I would most like to wear Encre Noire. If I wake up early on a Saturday or Sunday morning and that is what the weather is like outside, I spray this amazing juice around my neck and out I go for a walk to take in that grey / wet / Magical weather. This is a pretty popular frag and I tested it at a highly reputable perfumery, leaving me undecided. My wife wasn't keen either. After receiving a Reiss shower gel and body spray gift at Christmas, I knew it reminded me of a fragrance I liked and I knew I would have to get hold of Encre Noire. I even overlooked negative reviews and I can say, buy with confidence. The item arrived perfectly packaged. The box is large and elegant the bottle is solid, square and stylish, with its wood effect top, a pleasureDirty smoke bringing with it something I can only think of as ash, and the ever - present vetiver, cedar and musk as it dries. Is it just he packaging, is it the name or is there something dark about Encre Noire.

I am very familiar with Encre Noire and to allay any fears you may have, from reading other reviews regarding the authenticity of this product, I can confirm that this is 100% legit. The batch code on the bottle received is 15G2513, which translates to a production date of July 2015.I purchased mine, in March 2016, from the seller: Amazon EU S.a.r.L for £24.20. (Not Fragrance New York for £24.19 -- in case there is a difference...)The sillage and longevity are superb, i.e. it lasts until you wash and it projects strongly.An amazing scent at an amazing price; the bottle also reeks of quality and the atomiser is excellent.This formulation has a marginally less inky and marginally more woody opening than the very early releases,

Quick delivery and good price,didn't know what to think of this at first because it's so different to anything I've used before.The packaging is smart with the wooden lid and dark glass design and the packaging says a lot about the fragrance in the fact that when you first put it on there's a strong smell of fresh wood,a hint of what I can only describe as a very subtle petrol smell and fresh grass,at first I thought oh no ,but after a short while the smell is actually very nice and I'd go as far as to say its one of my favourite fragances and under 40 pounds this is a bargain.The only reason I don't give this a five is because I would recommend trying this in the shops before buying it online

You may be thinking about buying this without having sampled it given it is not readily available in stores.Although these things are highly subjective, probably you should just go for it.It seems more likely than not you will like it if the things you have read about it (on Basenotes/in L.Turin's Perfume Guide/wherever) attract you.Incredibly similar to Chanel's Sycomore (if maybe a little brighter and less rich & detailed) and a fraction of the price. More interesting than Guerlain's Vetiver. If you like the original Gucci Homme (not the replacement No.II) I suspect you will 'get this' - it's got that same 'not encountered before yet delicious' quality.Good demonic ink-well bottle too.

Ive never smelt anything like this before. It's very strange, but it a good way. People have mentioned it smells like a forest, but I wouldn't say so really.. It's hard to pinpoint this smell. It's very inky, dark, there is a woodyness to it, I would say there is a faint scent of damp autumn leaves in there, so there is a hint of forest to it but not much. It's like what an old library would smell like if ink had been spelled on the floor and a few leaves had blown in from an open window.. It's got a darkness to it, like ghostly.. So to sum it up, it's gothic dark and rather haunting. Best suited to Autumn and winter really. Very well made, and very interesting. A work of art if anything.

Recently purchased on a Prime deal at a fraction of the cost. This is a premium scent that starts off a bit too sweet for me but then settles into a very nice woody, earthy, musky long lasting scent. Oddly though it lasts much longer on my clothes (days) than my skin (good 6 to 8 hours) which is fine by me because the sillage is always present and drawing questions and comments on how good it smells. To top it all off the bottle is one of the best I have ever seen in a men's fragrance. Having blind bought this fragrance based on the reviews on both Amazon and Fragrantica.com I decided to take the plunge. I am so glad that I did, especially at the deal price!

It's all about personal taste. My first introduction to Lalique was when I was in a perfumer in France and a member of staff introduced me to Equus which has a sort of fizzy peppery top note. It was my favourite until a few years later I was in Dubai airport and a sales person gave me a squirt of Encre Noir. I didn't think much of it at first and walked on. Half an hour later I found the smell of vetiver and peppery leather intoxicating, returned to duty free and parted with $175 for a bottle. I think it's more for evening than daytime, but Lalique fragrances are fantastic.

Beautiful bottle, wonderful fragrance. The initial impression of a woody hit of cypress gives way in a few minutes to a smoky vetiver that makes you want to keep smelling it close up. This is likely to be due to only moderate sillage but the scent has good longevity. It'll take 4 sprays to get this to last a few hours but given the excellent price here, the quality of product makes this unbeatable value. It smells and is exclusive and nice...people will ask what it is you're wearing...in a good way!

Lovely sent baught this for my dad when he visits and leaves I can still smell him ..UpdatedI'm on a second bottle the smell is beautiful leaves a trail of haven and pleasure stays a long time and my dad gets lots of complimentsHe's a very nice dresser designer ties trilby hat dress trousers and shirt and a wool crombie coatAnd this cologne tops it off a true gentleman in style smelling DevineA1 to this one

I had not come across this fragrance until I saw it on YouTube. You won't find it in Boots or Debenhams, which makes it more appealing. This is just amazing! Masculine, vetiver is the main smell here, a bit similar to Guerlain's Vetiver, only better. Long lasting and sophisticated, very reasonable and in a stylish bottle. Lots of compliments with this one. Buy it for the man in your life!!

I personally like it. But I had to get used to it first to be honest. It's a very unusual smell. Very dark. I'd best describe the smell as a freezing winter breeze that hits you up the nose with a dark 'burned' woody earthy smell. This is a sophisticated masculine mens fragrance for older men in a winter/evening setting. You'll probably faint if you wear this in the summer!

i am reluctant to praise this too much, in case it becomes too popular. Encre Noire, "black ink" is superb, and has become a firm favourite of mine. Strong but not overpowering, with great legs, it has great sophistication, and is in a select handfull of fragracences that people have actuallyasked me "what is the fragrance that you are wearing?"
