This is meant to be the best quality 1cm security flex that you can buy, and as this hasn't been tested as yet, I have no reason to disbelieve it. It certainly looks the business & is good value for money & is perfect for locking front wheels & removable seats to an existing lock.Having said that, (and I apologise here in advance if the following advice is teaching grandma's to suck eggs...):I do urge people looking for security for their bike to understand that any thief worth his salt can still get through this cable with just decent quality snips in only a very short time. You therefore need to anchor the bike to an immovable (eg steel post) object via a decent heavy duty lock & chain or shackle lock (google "Sheldon Brown" online, but preferably secure through rear wheel & frame together if possible). Try not to leave room for a thief to get a small "bottle" jack in the "D" of a shackle lock if using this mode of security (try to buy the shackle that fits your bike snugly & just has room for a post).I suggest that for evey £10 you spend on bike, you spend at least £1 on lock... (and start at no less than £20).The Sold Secure Silver Kryptonite Kryptolok is a decentish sub £25 shackle for anything up to around £200 new, for example. Their Evolution lock is just a few quid more and is Sold Secure Gold (see my other review, as I have one). Please however remember that if a thief good at what he does wants your bike, he will have it... The trick (unfortunately for others) is to move up the ladder by getting him to move onto easier pickings.Other tips:1) Lock bike outside cafe's, pubs, places here plenty of people are visible just inside (the thief does not wish to be disturbed by an irrate owner/punter).2) Park where monitored by CCTV (although most thieves would not be massively deterred)3) Make sure the post/fixing you attach to does not allow your bike to be simply lifted up & over it!4) The item you attach your lock to must not be construed to be actually much weaker than your lock (although attaching to anything immovable offers another layer of security).5) A good independant reviewer of all bike locks (attack tested independantly) is "Bike Radar" (just google it). Be wary, as the odd sold secure gold lock does not rate particularly well in their practical testing.I hope thats of help to some (sorry if you read that lot & knew it already)...

There really isn't a whole lot to Kryptonite's Kryptoflex bike lock cable, which is little more than a braided steel cable with loops at either end, housed within a clear rubber jacket. You use it in conjunction with your bike lock (Kryptonite or otherwise) to secure those parts of your bike that could be quickly removed by a nefarious type - the seat and wheels in particular - by looping it through those parts and then securing the cable's loops within the shackle of the lock. Basically, it's an extension to the lock itself, but most definitely not something you would want to use on its own to secure your bike. What was quite surprising for me when I first got one is just how thick it is -10mm doesn't sound much but it seems more "in the flesh" - and this almost puts it in a similar size bracket to the 16mm shackle on my Kryptonite u-lock, although the solid-steel lock is undoubtedly much harder to cut through. There are videos of Kryptoflex cables being put through their paces on YouTube as well as various blogs and review sites, and the overall consensus seems to be that whilst they would never stop a determined thief, they are a deterrent for the chancer.Strength does come at a price, though, and in this case it's that the cable is quite heavy and quite rigid, so it doesn't lend itself to being looped up and carried around. It'll fit easily enough in a backpack or shoulder bag, but you might struggle to get it in anything smaller, and carrying it around on your bike might not be practical without some planning.I use the cable primarily to help secure my bike at home rather than when I'm out and about, partly because I don't leave my bike anywhere in public for long and partly because carrying both the cable and a strong lock just isn't that practical. This might seem a bit of a waste but some of my family members have had bikes stolen from their properties so I see it as less of a luxury and more of a sensible precaution. For me, it's not only a deterrent but also peace of mind.

It weights practically nothing, its cheap, and its very versatile.I have it permanently mounted on my bike. I run one hoop through the other on the front of the bike (in the triangle between the top tube and the down tube) and coil the rest of the cable around the top tube and velcro the tail end to the seat post. In this fashion its totally out of the way when I'm riding. When I lock up my bike, all I do is uncoil and run the tail end through the front wheel and back to the lock. I don't undo the front of the cable, its permanently looped around the front of the bike.I find this to be the fastest and least cumbersome way to use the cable.I also use the cable to lock my bike around larger diameter poles that my main lock won't fit around, but naturally only for short periods. If your only need is to lock your front wheel, then I suggest getting a small cable lock and lock the wheel to your frame. It will be a lot easier and quicker to use on a day to day basis. However if like me you prefer to have the versatility of a longer cable, then I would recommend this lock.I would give it 5 stars, but both Sterling and Squire make versions of these in 12mm thickness for about the same price (compared to Kryptonite's 10mm). Many would dismiss the 2mm difference as negligible, but consider the cross sectional area for each cable. Using Pi x Radius squared, cross sectional area for 10mm cable is 314mm squared, whereas it is 452mm sqared for 12mm cable. That's a lot more metal to cut through, and it might just make the difference.

I am using this with a kryptonite Faghettaboudit mini lock, and it seems good quality and doesn't look easy to cut through being steel. I hook it around the front wheel and through my seat then lock the hoop onto the D lock on my back wheel which is always locked through the frame and wheel to the bike rack, any other type of locking isn't good enough in my opinion and is a guaranteed theft attempt, they only try and steal badly locked bikes usually. The only downside is it takes longer than you might think so make sure you are there 5 minutes earlier, (especially at train stations with 2 minutes to spare) lol. Having my bike almost stolen the other week has changed my attitude to locking it up and I now lock it properly everywhere I go.do NOT use combination locks, they don't really do anything and are very easy to cut through, this was my wake up call, and my bike is expensive so it needs to be secure.Obviously thieves can snap through most cable locks but if you have more than one lock they probably won't bother. I've not had this long so we'll see how it lasts and hope they leave my bike alone.I Hope this review helps someone from having their bike stolen!

I've just given one of these, together with a Abus Granit X plus lock, my 19 year old son, who is off to university, telling him that one of the most important life lessons he'll learn is how to secure a bike. I sense that he thinks I've gone over the top: the D lock is too heavy, he complains, and the flex too long. 'It's too much hassle'. So I've tried to convey what a hassle it is to have your bike nicked, to find yourself transportless, to have to rearrange all your plans, to find out about public transport in a city you're not too familiar with, and, most of all, to make an insurance claim, (contact the police, give descriptions, wait and phone and phone again, and wait and argue etc etc).I still don't think it has sunk in. But I'm confident that I've done my best as a mum getting him this gear. Where did I first hear about it? I think it might have been via the Guardian cycle blog then London Cyclist. It's what I use and I wouldn't want any less for him.

I got this to secure the tools in my shed. Well in fact I got two. This means in my set up I can have all my tools attached to the wall and the cable stretches out along them all.You can fit one end into other, which is great and this is how I have this set up in the shed. I get away with using a single padlock to secure these two leads together. Yes, it's a little annoying having to unwrap the cable to get to the tools, but it's there as a deterrent.I can't vouch for how they would survive a break in, but they look like the business and they are a deterrent. This, and with the added security of having the shed alarm I would hope they would just give up and move on.I have also used this forsecuring my bike on occasion because its length is such that you can go around both the wheels and seat and back into the main D lock. This means you can secure all removable parts simply with just using the one main lock.I would recommend this product.

Having all or part of a bike stolen is heartbreaking. Even when the one stolen is as cheap as chips. Take it from experience. Anything that can help is worth its weight in gold and this is a device that will get your average bike thief to move on to one that doesn't involve quite as much work. Unless, naturally, your bike is a Rolls Royce. Then all bets are off!For those that don't know, this fits in various ways. Through the seat if you want, but in my case through both wheels and around a solid D lock and through a cheaper cable lock too. In other words, stops either wheel being taken. However - to be clear - if the main lock is broken this is broken too.Don't cheat yourself on length.Shorter might leave you struggling. This will - in my case anyway - warp around the seat pole and could even be used to secure shopping to the front handlebars. The advantage of a sturdy bike.No complaints at all - should be standard issue in today's world.

This cable is good for securing a bike for shortish periods in relatively safe areas.I bought it for Cycle Fiesta, a cycle touring company in Spain, and we use it by itself in many rural areas (Pyrenees, Natural Parks etc.), but wouldn't dream of using only this in places like Valencia or Seville (where bike theft is very common). It is good in rural areas, because you can easily loop it round a big tree, so there's lots more places to put your bike than if you just have a D lock.It is quite light and fairly thick, but would not take long for a dedicated thief to cut. I would not rely on this to secure even an expensive saddle or wheel in high-risk areas, because 'professional thieves'could break it in no time; but it is a great option for low-risk areas. One thing to note is that there is no locking mechanism with the cable, so you can use either a D-Lock with it, or get a decent padlock.

This is a great product, it feels strong and sturdy but it flexible and light. I use it in combination with my Kryptonite D-lock, here's the link to the D-lock if anyone is looking for a decent one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kryptonite-York-Standard-Flexframe-Bracket/dp/B005YPK9SY/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1445003272&sr=8-6&keywords=kryptonite+lock.When I first received the cable however, it turned out to be the 3 1/2 foot cable, with a 7 foot label on it. I was quick to contact Amazon and tell them about the mistake, they were very understanding and asked me to send it back and arranged for another one to be ordered. Unfortunately it had at that time become out of stock and I was forced to wait a full 3 weeks from my original order before getting the correct lock.Amazon offered a £5 voucher off my next order for the inconvenience, not the best compensation but better than nothing.

I purchased this to padlock a spare Mossberg in the vehicle. I was surprised at how thick the cable was so depending on your application you should be just fine with a 5 MM version. It's still fairly flexible even at 10 MM and unless someone has bolt cutters in his pocket, he's not getting away with my Mossberg unless he steals the entire SUV.I have a large gun padlock which I run through the semi-auto receiver and then through one of the loops on the cable. The cable has already been wrapped around one of the back seat supports. I was able to feed one loop through the other and pull it tight which gives me several feet of cable to work with.Pros: flexible and long enough to attach to variousattachment points in the vehicle.Possible Con: It's really thick so you won't be able to run it through unless it's a shotgun or similar with large ejection port.

I read the reviews and was a little bit worried about getting the six foot krptoflex since people were saying it is really long. I didn't need a cable that was so long, just long enough to wrap my two wheels around the pole and u-lock. Thus, I ordered the 4 foot cable thinking it would be good enough. When I got the cable though, it is only long enough to wrap around one wheel and then to the u-lock. I can't stretch it enough to wrap around the second wheel or the pole for that matter. If I could order all over again, I would probably get the six foot cable. I can say that even though the cable is 4 feet, it is solid and looks pretty strong. Of course you will need a u-lock to go with this, but for just a quick run to the grocery store, this should be just fine.

The Kryptonite Kryptoflex 7 ft Cable Lock (10 mm x 213 cm) is an excellent deterrent for thieves looking for a quick steel, if they see this cable they already know there's going to be a chunky heavy Kryponite lock connecting it all together, it would take a lot of effort and time to remove this with the Kryptonite NYL attached, not impossible but noisy and time consuming, 7ft is more than enough length to go through both wheels and through the frame, it could even be looped through the seat bracket with a fiddle about, although a thinner one would probably be better and easier to put away when not in use, over all an excellent product, i would recommend this product to anyone who's after some decent security for there bike, gets a +1 from me :)

I bought 2 of these (and a new top rated D-Lock) after my bike was stolen - ok, so the horse had bolted but my new steed was not going the same way! The 7ft version I bought is worth the extra because it provides greater options for securing your bike - or several bikes, e.g. in a shed or if out with family/friends). The metal cable has a good thick plastic cover so it does not scratch anything and one end can be passed through the other if needed; is also includes a velcro tie for when it is coiled up.. It could be used in conjunction with a suitably rugged padlock, but I prefer the belt & braces of the D-Lock. Ultimately is someone wants the bike they will get it,but hopefully lazy thieves will go for an easier option! Highly recommended.

The cable is well-finished (no fraying anywhere) and sufficiently supple and long to loop around both bike wheels. You need to have a padlock or (better) a strong U-lock in order to lock the two looped ends together, so the description "cable lock" is a bit misleading (although the Product Features section makes this clear).I carry my cable in a pannier bag. Not sure how I would carry it without a bag, although I guess it could be looped fairly tightly around a bike tube and fastened by putting one end through the other (as in the product picture) and then back through again to make it less likely to slip off.In summary,I'm glad I bought it; it means I don't have to carry my bike wheels around with me when I park the bike!

Great quality, solid and robust enough to prevent casual theft I'm sure. As some said, it would take an opportunistic pair of bolt croppers to cut this off.As suggested by others, you might think it's a bit smaller than expected having viewed the photo, but reading the product specification it's as advertised so it's exactly as I expected. I'll try to add a picture to my review later, to give it some perspective.I can also fit the end of this cable right through an eye bolt with an eye of 15mm (you squish the loop a bit to pop it through, and the orange covering over the cable joint will fit through too), so I can loop this cable through itself onto an anchor point.Overall very pleased: compact, strong and quality item.
