Okay, I do know that this is intended for playing tug-of-war with your dog. In fact, that's why I bought it. I have 3 dogs and they all loved it right from the start. It was good for playing TOW with the two big dogs but the best part about this toy was yet to come. You see, one of our dogs is a lab mix puppy who's being trained as an autism service dog. Because she's going to be a service dog, she's not allowed to "play" with the other dogs so she will learn to stay focused on the person she's being trained to help. She loved to have a good game of tug but the toy kept disappearing. It didn't take long to realize that the miniature daschund was sneaking that toy out and smuggling it into his own area.Since both dogs also enjoyed chewing on it, the easiest solution was to just cut it in half so they each had a chew toy. no money for a second oneWell! There in is the beauty of this toy. The daschund is a heavy chewer who can destroy even the toughest toy in a matter of hours. His motto: if it squeaks, it must die. If it has stuffing, it must be scattered everywhere. I had no idea such a small dog could be such a chewer. We've bought all kinds of toys for tough chewers that he just destroyed in record time. But he has been working on the red part of this toy for months now and loves it. Every so often he gets a small part off but he never tries to eat it. He just leaves it for some poor unsuspecting soul to step on barefooted. Gotta love that dog!So sure, the dogs can chew it and even chew it apart. But if you're looking for a toy that your small dog will love and will stand up to some heavy chewing, I say this is the one to try. I'm back for another. It's time.

Got as a replacement for same one, that was got a few months ago. Our dog loves it. But, the rubber does not stand prolonged catching. Because already, their is a tiny piece of of it. I long praised the Kong brand. Because our last dog, who we lost at 16yrs, loved to play with the balls. These did last, and are still doing so. Yet somewhere, these toys, don't stand the test of time. The fact this is occurred through tugging. I do have to question, why do they not last for the reason, they are used for? I do keep checking this brand from time to time. Looking for a toy, that will last like the ones of old. However, I no longer buy, because it is a Kong. We would give anything, to find that toy, that our dog of just over a year, can't bite into, or through. He is no way a destructive breed. He just loves to play. I hate to have to take a toy of him through safety reasons. But, I would much rather be careful, than have to take him urgently to the vets. The toy itself, is good, and I know that some dogs will play with it, and perhaps cause no damage. Sadly for us, the search goes on. A & P W

Our dog loves it. He hits us with it, so we will play tug with him, and he is wagging his tail the whole time we are using it. He also puts the middle in his mouth and wacks it back and forth hitting his face. Our dog is a chewer. But for some reason, after a month of using this, it is still just like new. I do find him chewing it once in awhile and I take it from him once I see him, because I want this toy to last. He has destroyed many toys in minutes. We have to buy the Extreme Kong instead of the Classic Kong, because he chewed small chunks off of the Classic. He is a whippet so strong but not as strong as other dogs (yes whippets are strong, although skinny, it's all muscle, and ours is a male and larger than the average whippet). So I can't guarantee this will work for stronger dogs but if you think your dog is comparable or smaller than ours, it will last.

Great product!!!! And I regularly give low reviews for other products, so I'm not bullshitting you. Haha. I believe good nutrition, sleep, socialization, love and this toy are all you need to keep a happy and healthy dog during quarantine. I wear a wrist strap (what you would wear in the gym if you were a heavy weightlifter) to hold onto one end. My dog tugs at the other. I check my phone and catch up on emails and the news for the hour she tugs on this incessantly. Make sure you let them win after every 10-15 minutes of tugging. Catch some breath for a few minutes, get some water. Then go back at it. It's like interval training for a puppy. Then feed them and watch as they sleep the rest of the day and night.Lmao. Do this 3 times a week and your dog will be yoked. And very well behaved. Who's a good girl?!

Some dogs are just born chewers! It is a fact, if your dog gets bored and has nothing to focus the boredom on then your furniture is in for a mauling and you are in for a shock :-) Kong toys are all I ever buy for my Staff as she is an avid chewer and they have stood the test of time, and dog, for the last 8 years. Obviously I am not saying the toys are lasting that long but they do last a good couple of years if you select the right size for your dog. This toy does seem to be one of her favourites and it is built to last, I do wish they would make the tougher black version of this toy but the red does seem to hold up well. I cannot emphasise enough how good Kong toys are,I even get them for my cats as well now!

If you want to play tug of war with your pet then this is ideal! We bought our first one of these from PetCo (so much more expensive than from Amazon) and our dog is a heavy chewer/very strong and this toy has lasted us over a year. This was a shocker because he was a puppy and would literally chew through everything and we felt like we were constantly buying toys. He loves this toy so much that he always is either chewing on it or he brings it up to us to play. We ended up adopting another dog so we bought another one off of Amazon so they both have their own now. Our second dog loves it just as much.Sometimes both of our pups play tug of war with each other and it is so funny/entertaining.

I'm not convinced this is the same "red" rubber compound as found in their red "kongs". It feels a little bit softer. And it being softer seems to let my dogs teeth cut into it easier. Maybe it is just that the cross sections or rubber aren't as thick, but this isn't nearly as durable as a red "kong".I would say that the second day there were already some cut into it. I'll give it some credit, it has held out for a long time even the cuts/breaks first showed up.I will also add that our two dogs (a 45lb aussie and a 20lb corgi) only play tug with it. It is not something they are allowed to just sit and chew on.They sure do love it though.

As I've mentioned in previous reviews, I have had to replace my cloth, rope, and plastic toys with rubber-based Kong toys because my APBT-American Mastiff mix destroys and EATS his toys if they can't stand up to him. I was a little skeptical about the KONG Tug toy because of the negative reviews and my dog's previous disinterest in rubber toys, but the moment he saw this he was hooked. I try to keep it out of his reach when I'm not playing with him with it, but even when he gets to it and chews the crap outta it, the Tug toy withstands the beating well. If you don't just let your dogs run loose with it, this toy should last a long time.

This may be the ONE and only toy that puppets has not destroyed. And it is his FAVORITE. He loves to tug. He would tug all day if he could. When we walk in the house, he runs to his toybox, gets his red tug and slaps us with it until we play. We always take it with us when we walk him or go to the park because you can throw it for fetching and then a rousing round of tug as well. WELL worth the price. It lasts and it is a favorite. This is the second one we bought. The first one lasted most of a year, through puppy needle teeth, and now huge wolf teeth! GREAT TOY!

My wife opened the package last night & let our chocolate lab check it out while she took care of other things. The dog managed to start chewing into the rubber center section before she found what he was up to. As others have stated in their reviews, this is to be a supervised toy, not to be left with a pet that loves to chew. I got the chance to use it today & we had a lot of fun! One word of caution, the toy will snap back if let go of by either party. Our dog slipped off & I got smacked in the face. I blame myself, not KONG.

We got two of these when Rusty (Austrailian shepherd) was a pup. He just turned 3 and only now (from normal tugging with dad) did on side break. We right away ordered another one so we would always have two to tug-o-war with. This is one of my highest recommened products. These tugs are WELL WORTH THE $$$. When we don't want to play tug we just put one end through the other end and it makes a good sized shaped toy about 6" x 6" for him to play with. He then entertains himself with it. Have fun and GET ONE (or two)

I wanted a good 'tug' toy and went for this Kong one. It wasn't quite what i expected. The image doesn't clearly show what you actually get. The toy looks as on the picture on one side (except with mine the outer edge of the 'handles' and the centre piece are in black rubber). But when you turn this toy over, the other side is like honeycomb textured. And the dogs absolutely love it. They all play tug with it but also love to chew it on their own. It is very robust - as are all Kong toys.Highly recommend.

My 9 month old doberman puppy has chewed through countless toys. This is one of the only ones that has stood up to his aggressive chewing, and he loves it too! We've tried nylabones and he gets bored with them very quickly. Anything with fur, a rope or a squeaker gets demolished in a few minutes of hours. We've had this toy for a month or so and he is just starting to pull off some of the black part on the handle. Considering how much he plays and chews on this toy I'm sold!!! Love it and so does he!!

My dog loves chewing on this toy and xarrying it around trying to get anyone to play with him. We've had it for months and hasn't made a mark in it yet. He can be pretty destructive and has eaten through many "tough" toys but this one held up perfectly. Very impressed with its durability. Our 2 smaller dogs tug of war it, we throw it, and people have even dragged the pup around while he's latched to it. One of his favorites ans although it's a little big it's easy to play with without getting bitten.

Perfect for tug sessions with your dog. This tug toy lives up to the Kong name. If your dog loves to tug this is a great toy. The soft but durable toy is great for adult and puppies alike. The Tug Toy has a comfortable grip and it is gentle on the dog's teeth. The material has the perfect amount of stretch which helps reduce fatigue and muscle strain. I am very satisfied with the Kong Tug Toy, I expect that anyone else who purchases this product will also be happy. 5/5 stars, recommended buy.
