I upgraded from a Kobo Touch, so I was already accustomed to and familiar with the Kobo operating system and using it for EPub books from my local library. Likes: Small. Light-weight. Very long-lasting battery charge. Backlight. The page number displayed matches the page that you are actually reading. Razor-sharp text e-ink display. Dislikes: None that I can think of. Honestly. Summary: If you don't want to be tied-in to the Amazon Kindle ecosystem then this is an excellent e-reader alternative.

I've been using eReaders since 2008, so the Clara HD was a considered choice - the most recent entry Kobo model (2018). I'm not fussed about waterproofness - if you are, buy a different one!PROs - super simple set-up; compact & light; build quality fine; Kobo store use is simple; adjustable screen lighting is effective & pleasant; AND unlike Kindles, you can put DRM-free epubs/PDFs on it, or OverDrive-powered public library ebooks - using free Adobe software.CONs - not found one yet :o)

This is my 3d Kobo Ereader & by far the best. Love how the reduced weight, more slim design, & texture on its back improve the grip (& my hands are tiny). The Comfort Light does ease the strain on your eyes when reading for hours, & helps falling asleep when u actually need to. The real game changer for me is the pre-installed Overdrive app: u can borrow & read numerous library Ebooks on your Clara, even in Hebrew: it has no problem with EPUBs in languages its operating system doesn't support.

This is my first e-reader and after reading many reviews I plumbed for the Clara and have no regrets whatsoever. The portability of the reader is the most important selling point as you can take it anywhere as it's likely to fit into most pockets. The backlight is most useful as it means you can read in absolute darkness if you want, it was also so easy to transfer books to it and the ease of which the bookmark works is simplicity itself. Basically go buy one, it does all it says on the tin.

Got a Kobo because I can download free books from libraries and Gutenberg Project etc in a variety of file formats. This means I can borrow books from my local library and my sons' school library and read them in e-ink so I don't strain my eyes e.g. with pc or mobile. I had an old Sony eReader which never worked very well so was doubtful about this, but I am incredibly impressed so far. Much better than the Kindle - Kobo bookshop prices compare fine with Amazon if you want to buy books too.

This is a fantastic little e-reader. Works with PDF and Epub documents so much better than my Kindle Fire did (IE it files them as actual books). Battery is still at 70% despite me reading for around 7 hours over the last week (and probably spent even more time arranging my books into folders etc!). The screen works wonderfully outdoors in sunlight and even has automatic 'Blue Shade' to make reading in the evenings less likely to interfere with sleep. A slim device that's intuitive to use.

Kobo have made a really wonderful piece of kit here. It’s ergonomic, an excellent size and easy to use. The kobo store has an amazing selection of books and the VIP membership is definitely worth it.Also with Overdrive you can get books from your local library so it doesn’t cost the earth! I love it as I am moving a lot currently and need to cut back on stuff I own so this is great! Even as a casual reader I’m reading more and also I can send articles to my kobo to read later with Pocket!

It is a fair priced item and extremely easy to use, the light on it is great because the colour will change depending on the light quality where you are using it and if you set a bedtime on it then it will reduce the blue light it emits at that time so you can use it in bed and it will not stop you from growing tired or give too much eye strainBattery life is also great and the size of it is perfect to use one handed, the patterning on the back means it won't slip out of your hand either

It took me a long time to decide to invest in an ereader!I didn't buy one to take over all my reading as I love reading 'real' books.I find that good books are usually as expensive as paper ones as then the pros of being able to share the book with friends and family outweighs buying it on Kobo. Having access to my local library is a big plus and one reason I opted for Kobo.I'm sure I will take time to work out all the Kobo can do. I would have liked less edging and more screen.

This is an ideal size, the red night light was a must for me. It has the Pocket application installed which means you can save things to pocket app from a PS or laptop to read on the Kobo at a later date. You can sideload Google books on to it as well as Kobo books, but not Amazon books, you would need a Kindle for that. It is bright and clear at 300 dpi. It is not water proof. So if you read in the bath or while floating on a lilo be careful. I don't do either so it's not a con for me.

ProsThe screen is nice and light. The fonts can be changed in sizeYou can quickly change the adaptave brightness down if your partner wakes up and you're still reading. The battery lasted ages. Think I had it a couple of weeks of regular reading before it finally begged for food.Cons The menu takes a moment to respond. Books labelled in calibre with the series name and number, but doesn't show in the menus. A good value reader that stands up well against my old Sony.

I didn't want to be channelled into Amazon, so I went for a Kobo ereader. It's a good basic ereader with all the facilities you want and portable for reading while travelling. The backlight is good and it's easy to connect to the Kobo store. Articles from the Web can be stored in Pocket. It's not always easy to navigate to different parts of a book or to underline a passage; and I do wish it automatically showed you how far through the book you are. But these are minor gripes.

I was intending on a Kindle but couldn't get it delivered at the time so researched this brand and their types. A friend had a kobo as didnt want to tie to Amazon with the kindle, this wasnt a thing for me, I'm pleased with a brand that is more unique here. It is more expensive. Clara is the perfect size for reading. I'm a traveller and is perfect for that. Extensive library and easy find books, good menu and index. Library option if you use 1. Night light, soft on the eyes.

Bought this as my main reader, having used a Kobo Mini for a few years. Love the back-light, it really does make the difference, particularly at night where you have the ability to give the light a more 'sepia' look thus reducing blue light. The reader has a high degree of customization in terms of fonts, weight of ink, margin width etc.Nice and light weight and so far I have not seen the battery indicator movedownwards. Two weeks in and I would say it is a winner!

This is my first e-reader so I was looking for something easy to use and compatible with borrowing e-books via my local library. I'm very happy with it so far. The screen is clear and I love the way its colour varies depending on ambient lighting. It is easy on the eyes, even when reading in almost total darkness. My only gripe is that it is black/white only. I didn't think it would matter so much but it seems it does. Still that said I'm happy with my Kobo
