This microSD card reader seems to be much more solid than the cheaper models that are available for under a pound from Chinese direct sellers. Due to the failure rates I've experienced with cheaper units, I now have two of these. I keep large capacity cards in both of them and they are used as multi-purpose USB thumb drives. I use the USB type A end to transfer data to and from my PC. Instead of connecting my phone to my PC to transfer data, I now use the reader's type C connector, which I find more reliable than having to try and get my PC to recognise my phone as a file transfer device. For travelling, I wanted to have the same travel documents on both my phone and tablet. This reader allowed me to use my PC to copy all of the documents to the card in it and then, at my leisure, connect the reader to my devices and copy the documents from it (i.e. I could wait until I was on the plane to actually perform the copy to the devices). Also, if all else fails, it's good to have the option of removing the card from the reader and inserting it directly into a device (e.g. if the target device has a micro-USB connector and there is no adapter at hand). It feels good in the hand, mostly due to the metal casing. The supplied cord works as something to attach it to a keyring but also keeps the blue plastic cap tethered to the reader and reduces the risk of losing it.A lot of reviews mention that the casing gets hot. I'd agree that it can get quite warm but I think this is normal and not something that I'm overly concerned with.Read full review...

This is somewhat unusual but actually quite a handy device to have stashed away amongst computing accessories. My Samsung phone won't talk to Mac so if I want to get media off the card I have to take the micro SD card out and stick it in something. The trouble is, it's no good getting an SD card adaptor because my always temperamental SC card slot on my Macbook has finally failed. This is where the Kingston FCR-ML3C comes in. It is a really nicely made product that feels like you could drive a steam roller over it and it's fast. I can watch a full HD video off it (mind, it's only as good as the card it's running off) and copy stuff quickly and enjoy the futuristic look of its little blue light. It gets warm quickly, but I've not seen it spontaneously combust so I've no issue with that. I recommend. One small sticking point is I've no idea what to do with the lansard and there are no useless instructions showing me how to fail at doing it. It is therefore just a matter of time before I lose the transluscent blue cap, which fits snuggly on the stick, even when a micro SC card is inserted, so you can just leave it there- as I intend to.

It's not easy to review something that's exactly what you can see it is. It's an adaptor for micro-SD cards (i.e. the tiny ones often used in mobile phones, about the size of the nail of your little finger). The adaptor then has two plugs - the large conventional USB-A (at high speed, 3.1) or the newer type 3 plug (similar speed). The device can transfer files limited only by the speed of your SD card or computer sockets, so typically it will be very fast. The body construction is excellent - metal with a good strong feel to it, not flimsy at all. The cap clicks on over the USB-C plug to protect it from dirt. I thought it might be lost easily, but if you thread the lanyard supplied through both cap and body, losing the cap should be impossible. The lanyard can be connected to a key-ring - there's a small ring at the other end.Note it's micro-SD only - so if that's what you mainly use, then it's ideal - e.g. for popping the card out of a smartphone for rapid copying of photos and documents to a computer (and vice-versa).

This is a great little microSD card reader. The nicest feature of this reader is its duel connectors. The main one is a standard USB 3 connector, while under a small plastic cover is a USB C plug. The card fits into a slot just above the USB C connector (under the cover.) it's slightly awkward to insert, but a lot harder to remove. In terms of performance, it matched my main card reader, transferring 20k small files at 25mb/s. This is a combination of the small file size and the use of a first generation USB 3 interface. Newer computers should see faster transfer rates. The solid metal case got quite warm. Not unbearably so, but noticeable. This is a great device which is pretty much future proof. The latest computers have usb-c ports, so even if your current machine has USB 3, it's certain that your next one will have the smaller port.

Does what it should as described. It does go in very snug and tight on both the C And reg USB when plugging in. And as others have mentioned the unit can get very hot to touch if left in the USB C phone end for more than 20 minutes. Not sure why as I've had other OTG plugs, but not with a USB C, that never got hot. The unit comes with string fobber that prevents you from losing the cap BUT, you'd have to tie each part separately. First time use I only tied it through both parts with a flip-tie to itself and I lost the cap. When I found it I realize there's a trick to tying both parts. The unit works... just concerned about how hot it gets. Therefore the 4 stars.

Yes, it does get warm/hot even without writing anything into the drive, but that doesn't negatively impact anything significantly. A regular sd card such as "Samsung PRO Endurance 128GB 100MB/s (U1) MicroSDXC Memory Card" can operate at max temperature of 185F/85C. The aluminum shell of this reader dissipate heat fast (That's the whole point of using aluminum). So overwall, it works as advertised and intended in my opinion. Its design and looks are also better than most of the SD card readers on the market. The speed I tested combined with the SD card I mentioned above is well within the expected range.

Bought this to add to a usb adapter on the fire tv that we have in the car for the kids. Seems to work great. It's fast for loading initial data (I have a 200gb microsd card in there) or refreshing media from time to time, with bonus that I can plug it in directly to my usb-c phone if needed for putting a movie on there on the go.Working well for us. I'm using mxplayer on the fire tv (offline firetv hooked up to the rear entertainment center in our car) which can see and read the movies stored on it.

This reader hits all the marks in terms of performance, a protected USB-C port that fits into most cases and a "leave-in" SD card slot that dissipates heat well.My only (minor) complaint is that the cap for the USB-C port is removable, but after some fussing I managed to rig the loop up in a way that holds on to the reader & cap while still allowing the cap to be removed. Still, it would be nicer if some sort of tether or retention were pre-applied and stronger than the fines string of the loop.

I use this in my Tesla Model 3 for TeslaCam and Sentry Mode recordings. I pair it with an endurance microSD card and this allows me to review footage directly on my Android phone (Pixel 3) using the USB C end. The only issue I have is the drive gets *extremely* hot when in use, even when plugged into my phone for 1-2 minutes. I have not seen any real issues with this but it's baffling why it's so hot and I am worried it'll damage my microSD card eventually.

Does what it says really. It's a small units that plugs into either a USB or a USB-C port and allows you to read a micro-SD card.Used it with a 200 GB sandisk card and did a 150 GB data transfer from Windows to the card. It worked just fine, though it did seem to get a bit warm. The unit is metal with a plastic cap over the USB-C end. The card slot is on the USB-C end. It is robust and works well. 5 stars.

I’ve now purchased 2 of these are both function perfectly. One I use with a 200GB card and it stays attached to my keys with the small included lanyard. The second also has a 200GB card, but it stays in my office and gets used for data backup. Having both a USB-C and USB-A connector means I can take advantage of USB-C speeds on my machines that support it, and USB 3 or less on the ones that don’t.

Works great, reads and writes to my SanDisk UHS-1 card at the full 120MB/s speed advertised on a USB3 port, bootable since it's a standard Mass Storage Device, and doesn't even get particularly warm during long operations. If you're looking for a work drive (for a Ventoy multi-boot), or for backing up your phone to, or whatever your need be, it'll do it's job.

Very well made. Compact and has a very solid feel makes transfering files for presentations easy, download to phone, transfer to usb, usb to computer. Perfect for those times when you don't have network access on the computer from which you are presenting.

The only con would be that you don't have a way to have a clip to hold it.It's feels secure and not too light. The usb-c works great for connecting to my tablets. I'm not sure how long it will be to I lose the cap for the USB-C.

Excellent product and design... would have been 5 stars but this thing gets hot! Quick!Even when not in use, just being plugged into a port it gets really hot.. so don't leave it plugged in!
