Your back's against the wall, you see three of your teammates running towards you down a dimly lit hallway. Behind them are several dozen creatures, all of which look hellbent on eating your face. What do you do? Shoot them of course. Shoot them in their dirty elbows.Killing Floor is pretty much like this. It's a cooperative FPS where you work together with up to five other players to basically survive constant waves of enemy zombies (or "zeds" as they're known here) by shooting the zombies repeatedly and trying to not die right up until you finally reach the last wave - and then you have to defeat the biggest baddest Zed of all - the Patriarch - who I won't say much about except that he has a heavy assault rifle,a rocket launcher and he can go invisible - so he's quite a challenge. That's the simple explanation. But it gets better...The game has different specialisations that you can choose - from medic, to commando to berserker. Each specialisation, or "perk" as they're known, make you better at a particular task. So as a medic, you will find that your healing kit does much better heals and can be used more often whereas if you're a Berserker, you have more damage resistance, move quicker and do more damage with melee weapons like axes and chainsaws. What makes the game quite addictive is that you actually get XP for everything you're doing that levels up the various perks independantly of each other, so each time you heal, your medic perk gets closer to levelling up, or say each time you get a headshot on a Zed with a pistol, your sharpshooting perk goes up. Every time one of these perks increases, you get better bonuses and rewards. So a level 5 commando will be quite easily putting out a lot more damage than say a level 0 commando - and levelling up is addictive! The other good part of Killing Floor is the weapon assortment. Unlike Left 4 Dead, there is a myriad of different weapons available for you to use, from standard fare such as machine guns and shotguns, to more powerful weapons like the LAW or the crossbow, to extremely over the top weapons like the Japanese katana or chainsaw - all of which are bought at a shop that opens at the end of each wave. How are they bought? With cold hard cash that you gain from shooting zombies. So asides from pride alone, there is another reason to try and shoot the hell out of things. Afterall, the grenade launcher you so desperately want isn't going to buy itself now is it?So overall, Killing Floor is a very simple idea with a lot of extra depth there to keep you interested. Playing with randoms of course is always fun, but you'll find that if you do play with people you already know - well expect to have a blast! The game constantly keeps you bouncing between feeling supremely confident and overgunned to the polar opposite where you're suddenly running for your life from a gigantic horde that just broke through the doors and wiped out half your squad. You really can never actually tell what's going to happen from one wave to the next, even when you're playing with a well armed and experienced set of Killing Floor gamers - it will still surprise you and force you to be constantly on your guard.I really can't recommend Killing Floor enough. It's incredibly good fun, simple and stylish and will no doubt keep you entertained for a long time. The only slightly niggling points I can really think are that it has virtually no single player mode - which is fine if you approach it as being a solely multiplayer game (which is how it's been designed) and also the only other complaint I've heard of is that some people find the voice acting in the game grates after a bit, but once again, it doesn't bother me as I like the cheesy "Landonnnn" accents myself. One final note as well, not only is the game highly enjoyable but it's also very well supported by its indie developers. To date, they have released two entirely free expansion packs that I can guarantee any other software house WOULD charge money for. We're not just talking minor upgrades, we're talking brand new powerful weapons, lots of new maps, a new monster, a brand new perk (Demolitions) and an extension to all existing perks that allows them to be levelled up to level 6. It really is surprising just how much love the developers seem to be giving their fans - quite frankly, it puts Left 4 Dead and Valve to shame and I can almost guarantee that they'll be another free expansion released at some point down the road.Anyway, hope to see you on the Killing Floor soon!

Review: Killing FloorTo simply put it; Killing Floor is a great game. I was fairly pessimistic before purchasing it given that upon reading up on the history of the game, it was initially created by a team of game modders. Regardless, I still went ahead and ordered it. I'm happy I made that decision. There is no story to the game so don't buy it expecting a campaign and story line. The back story is essentially "Zombie outbreak. Kill zombies." One issue I do find with the `story' though is that what you're fighting isn't actually stated very clearly, on the case it doesn't once refer to the creatures as Zombies. It's calls them "Mutants", "Creatures", "Monsters" and "Specimens" but not "Zombies".This is complicated a little more when it states there is a feature called "ZED Time" which slows time. The `ZED' implies they're zombies. Anyhow, that is just a tiny nit-pick.The game is purely online based but features a single player mode, there are no friendly units so it's just you versus the monsters which isn't all that fun. If you buy, ensure you buy it for a computer with an internet connection. The gameplay is fun and features enough enemies to keep you on edge. The format of the gameplay is that of a `wave defence' game; where you try survive through enemy waves, there are no objectives and no goals other than surviving. After each round you have a set time where you can buy ammo and guns from the `trader' and barricade yourself in a nearby building by welding the door shut. Although this may seem rather dull, it has great re-play value! One thing I also like about the game is the community, I've played through plenty of server and all the users I've encountered have been friendly and really fun to play with. Which is a nice change from other game I've played. However, this is purely from what I've experienced so don't take it as a guarantee. The graphic of the game is great and creates a tense atmosphere. The audio too is great. The major turn off in the audio department is that the voice acting is horrendous; it's a stereotypical British accent. I'm British and found it a little overly British, thankfully though there is an option to disable it. The games ambience and the map lighting can create quite a scary environment, it's sad that the voice acting destroys the tension. One major issue is that there are frequent connection issues so during map changes the game may crash or just take overly long. There is no loading bar to it's difficult to tell whether the game has crashed or its still loading. The game should NOT be compared to Left 4 Dead, they're VERY different games and should be treated as such, they do have a few similarities but not enough that they should be compared like they're twins.Left 4 Dead - Co-Operative FPS, Fight through zombie hordes, Reach the goal, Progress through the levels and campaign, strict teamwork, created by a fairly big and established company.Killing Floor - Co-Operative FPS, Defend yourself from waves of monsters, Barricade yourself, Loose Teamwork, created by a small company.Overall, Killing Floor is a fun game and contains enough content to keep you amused for hours. It has a few flaws which, thankfully, can easily be fixed with a few option tweaks. If you do buy, then I hope you enjoy!

This game is truly epic.At below normal retail price, and much much much less than the rip off that is L4D,it's definitely worth it.What makes it even better is that it will constantly be updated, the first major content is coming very soon and the first DLC is out (for just $2)that gives you 4 new characters to play as.In terms of money,it's the best around. For the purpose of this review,I'l refer to L4D because it's the only game that you can compare it to really. As for the gameplay, you can choose how you want to play among the 6 classes that level up as you own zombies, these are being balanced as I type. There's the support for shotguns and heavy duty stuff, commando for cleaning up the weakerand invisible enemies, fire bug for general flamethrower support (useful against the scrakes and flesh pounders),the beserker for melee madness (with the axe, chainsaw and machete),the sharpshooter for the shots that count(currently specialising with the deagle, crossbow and leaver action rifles) and of course the medic. As these classes/perks level up you'l gain say for the commando -10% reload time with all weapons,or the beserker 10% more movement speed, this is per level and there are 6 levels to each class which does unfortunately take some grinding.Unlike L4D the tactics go beyond 'oh lets camp here with the molotovs and health packs',for example you toss teammates who have just joined the game cash to quickly buy a weapon before the trader time's up or weld the doors aroudn you to funnel the zombies to you, with someone monitoring the strength of the door whilst watching your backs. This all shows up mostly in random groups, the gaming community has been purged of glitchers and the annoying 12 year olds with no understanding of the game are very few.The graphics are pretty standard but good and the mutants/zombies/whatever are tastefully glory upon death or decapitation.A big part of KF is the feel of the guns, they're meaty and sound right, cough unlike L4D,and what guns you use is up to you. With the impending new content coming will be the AK47 and a Katana sword which will provide more stopping power for the commando and berserker classes, and in the future there will be much more choice in what weapons you choose. This game has so much more potential than L4D thanks to TWI caring for this game above the money it makes, they constantly release patches and pounce upon any mbugs or errors(there have been very few). The only downside to this game is the fact that without new content being released frequently,it would get quite boring after a few days of playing it unless it was with mates (which is how this game should be played).Luckily,as mentioned, more stuff is inbound and this game comes highly rated, the only reason it's meta score is average is because of L4D fanboys giving it 40 odd. And at this price with free content,it's well worth it.

Killing Floor shouldn't be a great game. It shows its origins as a fan-made 'mod' in so many ways, like only having a couple of voice actors for everyone in the whole game, and some irritating typos and bad grammar. (A character called Captian Wiggins?!)The trouble is, it's just so very addictive. As you play, actions such as headshots, healing team mates or welding doors earn you progress towards character improvements in seven different classes, called 'perks'. Want to carry more stuff? There's a perk for that. Want to get cheaper explosives? Ditto. So the more you play, the better it gets. High level perks spawn with free equipment, which is also nice. You don't really play Killing Floor to kill zombies, but to rack up experience to advance your perks. As for a storyline, it's virtually absent: a marked contrast to the linear nature of that other zombie apocalypse game, Left 4 Dead. Killing Floor tries to tell a story, about how Horzine Industries unleashed a horde of clones on London... but the maps are played in no particular order, and each simply gives a paragraph in iffy English about the situation you face. Sometimes the trouble you face is described as an 'infection', sometimes not. But you know what? Forget about the backstory! This isn't Left 4 Dead, with its cinematic cutscenes and sense of progress towards getting out of the zombie-infested area... this is a deliberate mission to kill everything that moves, London style. So what if every mission always involves killing the same number of monsters in the same number of waves. 'Space Invaders' was successful...True to its fan-made roots, Killing Floor has expanded a great deal since Tripwire Interactive launched it in 2009. It originally had just five maps, but several official expansions have taken place since. Each adds new achievements; particularly the special Christmas-themed one that was released in late 2010. Other improvements have included adding a new, higher difficulty level, and a seventh perk. The 'live' nature of this game and community means it can keep on surprising players for a long time to come - although we have to hope that a planned sequel doesn't bring Killing Floor to an untimely end.Killing Floor is the processed cheese of computer games: a guilty pleasure - but a pleasure all the same.

I bought this game during a sale on Steam over the Xmas period because a friend recommended it to me, he said it was an "action-packed zombie shooter". I was a little apprehensive at first, but after playing 60+ hours I can honestly say this game is pure brilliance. Until I bought this game the only other zombie shooters I'd played were L4D1&2; this game is a refreshing change of pace from L4D and has a wider array of weapons and it also has an abundance of different types of zombies (or specimens as they're known as in game) to kill. The main aim of the game is survival: survive 10 waves of attacks from the specimens then fight the main boss- a gargantuan psychotic specimen with a gatling gun for an arm called the Patriarch. The first waves are mainly made up of the weakest specimens, these are easy to kill, although they can be dangerous if you get swarmed by them. After wave 5 you start to see the tougher specimens: a chainsaw wielding maniac and a creature with spiked gauntlets for hands that can spin and shred anything in its path. Overcoming these repugnant creatures requires a lot of team work, especially on the harder difficulties. The fact this game is so team orientated is why I love it so much, well that and the plethora of weapons available- the AA12 Shotgun and M32 Nade Launcher being my absolute favourites.I can't recommend this game enough, it's a must buy for anyone who loves shooting/exploding mutants with big guns.

Well, I was looking for a decent game to play, and I stumbled upon this. I read the other reviews here, and thought I'd give it a go, seeing as the price is hardly exorbitant, which cannot be said for PS3/XBOX games. The gameplay is great, and brilliantly thought out, with attention paid to the minutest of details. The guns feel really realistic, and have look great and real, but the sounds really make them amazing. The zombies, or Zeds, are very good, and there are many different types, al of which have their strengths and weaknesses which you will quickly pick up.There are loads of maps, and continuous updates including Christmas maps and many new characters and guns. All in all, this is one of the best games I've played, and overall I'd give it 9.5/10, the only reason for no 10/10 is the singleplayer could have been a tad better, with the possibility of a campaign, even a simple one where you just go through the different maps and perhaps find AI characters to fight alongside.

Basically the game play is much smoother because its an unreal engine game so blowing heads away is much more satsifying. The perk system is tougher for some of the classes are much harder to level than others which a small but aceptable flaw. This game has another level team work comparative to its counter part (L4D2) at first it not so apparent but want to do well at the harder levels its a must. The levels are interesting the fact set in the UK did win alot favors with me since feed up all games being about america. The money system works fine there also so really cool 3rd party maps. LAN gaming works well because you can shout at you squad/friends.Edit: I'm still playing this game on off regualy for two reasons:1.its just loads of FUN.2. loads servers with loads of players still.

I bought this the other day, not expecting much, but boy, was I blown away! It's very atmospheric, running round gloomy corridors, down stairwells, even running round outside at dusk or dawn. The mutants are pretty scary and can grab hold of you so you can't run away! They are quite easy to kill with the right weapons, but some jump at you and pin you down, so it is quite a challenge. The one aspect I really like is the Trader. There is a time limit in which to reach the trader after killing a wave of mutants, although there are really cool pulsating beams of red light that show you exactly which way to go. I also really like the twin hand guns - awesome killing power, but reloading is (realistically)quite slow.A very, very good game.

WOW! this game blows you out of the water.i am not a big fan of purchasing games that i have never heard of before but i bit the bullet and purchaced it.having previously played left for dead 1 and 2, this one just seembs a lot more relaxed in terms of everyone hving a good time decapitating zombies unlike L4D where its so serious!goods:nice graphicslots of weapon choicesfun gameplayslow motionaddictivelots of different mapsbads:sometimes my one will freeze whilst loading but just load the map again and it should work.all in all a great buy to pass the time or for a great time online! everyone is so friendly and there is no sense of competition. just buy it you will not regret!

I've been playing this since the mod version came out for UT2004 and this updated (Steam) version is better in every way. I stopped playing Left 4 Dead months ago as I find it too lacking in variety (fewer weapon and enemy types). Not only that, but this has 6 player co-op not a mere 4 player as in Left 4 Dead. There is no option to play as a zombie, however,The game is regularly updated and there are many dozens of extra fan-made maps you can download via the official website. If you like frantic fps survival horror then you can't really go wrong with this. The price is absolutely perfectly pitched so give it a chance.

7.3.2010

Just as the title says. This game can contain hours of fun, and the fact it has a leveling up on perks is even better, which can get you more into the game. I find this loads better than left 4 dead in my opinion, as you are able to fend for yourself most of the time (unless the difficulty is set high). The game itself is full of suprises, i often see my self jumping as a zombie comes round the corner. Theres a great choice of weapons to choose, from handcannons to rocket launchers. I recommend this game to anyone who likes lots of gore, and zombie killing!

2.11.2016

Old but gold! I have been playing this game for a very long time (I also own Killing Floor 2).This is a bio hazard zombie type game with different types of zombies with different attacks/speeds and power. It's based on waves and you must survive them all before reaching the boss! The more you play, the more you'll level up and eventually get stronger. There are different difficulties to which can make this game very challenging! This game is based on skill, survival. Have you got what it takes?

2.11.2011

If you like l4d you'll lap this one out. It's about zombies invading england= kinda cliché eh? but still it's very cool gsme, i'd reccomend it for any fans of Romero zombie films or fans of zombie survival games. There's a good variety of classes and weapons to choose. But you have to stick together while playing co-op since zombies can kill you easilly.Result= 5/5 worth the money but nothing special, just a basic shooter with creative ways to kill zombies

First Ever Review -> I purchased two copies of this game, one for me and one for a friend. The online co-op is brilliant and the maps are challenging, I now play this game with around six people making it one of the funnest online experiences of any game. I also noticed that two free full demos of the game are bundled with each copy, meaning that I could show others how good this game was without any restrictions - MUST BUY -
