This Kensington Laptop Cooling Stand is designed for laptops of up to 17" and is powered by a USB connection. The unit comes presentably boxed and complete with a 2 year limited warranty. The stand is finished in black and grey. Underneath the unit it features a grey non-slip fabric base which makes having the stand on your lap both comfortable and secure. There are outlets for the fans on either side and at the rear there's a flap which contains a short, captive USB lead which resides clipped into a compartment underneath the flap. If the USB lead is in use there's a cable outlet so you can shut the compartment door. If you are using the unit on a desktop the cover flap can also be used as a stand to give more rake to the cooler, plus at the front there are small rubber feet to prevent slippage. On the upper surface are four longish rubber pads to hold your laptop securely on a hard plastic platform in the centre of which are the two fan ducts. The unit has twin fans but no detail on their current consumption is given so you don't know the impact on your laptop's battery life.I've used a few of these cooler stands and this one is very quiet plus the fans seem effective. There's no on/off switch and if your laptop is running low on juice you'd just unplug the USB cable for the cooler to reduce power consumption which is practical but not elegant. Unlike some other models there's no speed switch for the fans plus there's no LED illumination of the fans either - a lot of cooling stands look rather striking thanks to the fans being backlit by switchable blue or red LEDs, although, to be fair, the LEDs serve no purpose other than to look "cool" and consume electricity.I tried this Kensington stand with my 15.3" Toshiba Laptop and it works well - it is very comfortable making my computer much more usable as a laptop. I also tried my girlfriend's 17" Asus laptop which only just fitted on the stand and was not nearly as stable - it seemed almost too big despite this stand being rated for computers up to 17". In use the fans genuinely keep the laptop cool and no heat is transmitted to your lap which isn't the case if you simply use your laptop without a cooler. However, given that this cooler is almost the size of medium laptop (although not as heavy) you are most likely to use this unit say, at home, rather than carry it around with you on your commute. This is a well made laptop cooler but could be a bit small for a 17" laptop plus, it's also a bit more bland than some models I've seen eg. there's no fan switch, no backlight and it looks rather understated although those factors don't really impact on its functionality.

My HP Envy 15.4" laptop has it's fans and grills on the underside and when I have the laptop on my lap or when I am in bed, the duvet blocks the air getting out of easily, the laptop starts to warm up quickly and the fans kick in at a higher and noisier rate. The idea with this cooling stand is simple, two fans draw in warm air from the middle of the stand and blow it out at both sides. It's USB powered, so no need for batteries and has its own USB cable built in that is stored away under a flap at the back (that also doubles up as a stand). The construction is a light plastic shell with grills on top and at the side. There are the two USB powered fans in the middle and the underside is a lightly padded fabric. There's also four low profile grippy pads at each corner to stop the laptop moving around (though my HP Envy has its own small rubber feet to do just that). Finally, there is no on / off switch. USB power automatically starts the fans. I don't know how much extra drain on the laptop battery these fansThe USB cable is long enough to reach the side USB port on either side of a 15.6" laptop, however does it stick out quite a bit. I dug out a 4 inch USB extender cable, one with a 90 degree plug on one end. That meant the cable was more flush to the side of the laptop.Do note, this cooling stand is not silent, it has it's own hum when powered up. In a rough and ready test, I used an audio level meter app on my mobile phone to measure sound levels. The laptop on a table at a distance of about 4 inches from the fan recorded a level of 28db (decibels), that's about the same as whispering. With the Kensington Cooling Stand powered up, there was about a 4db notable increase in sound. Not much, but the fans spin at a different pitch to those in the laptop, so once you hear them, they are very obvious. Anyway, if you're listening to music, watching movies or playing games (or wearing headphones) you won't notice any difference and the sounds are inaudible from the next room.In use? On my lap after an hour of browsing and game playing and I had no warmth transferred from the laptop to my legs. The laptop also did not spin up its internal fan(s), normally proof of the hardware getting hotter, so the Kensington Laptop Cooling Stand does a good job. For a newer laptop, it's a useful tool, for an older one (there's an old Microsoft Vista one at work that sounds like a jet taking off when it's been running for a while), it could be much more useful.

I have a mid-range gaming laptop and, yes, I do use it to game whilst it's on my lap. The problem with this is that my legs and clothing can block air intake ports, leading to overheating, which is deleterious to the computer's components in the long term, but also can become very uncomfortable on the legs.Prior to this I've used a laptop cooling stand, which I've rested on top of a lap-tray. This method has worked in the past but it is a bit of a faff and is fairly heavy. The Kensington Laptop Cooling Stand does everything my previous method does but is an integrated unit and is much lighter and less unwieldy. The underside is padded and so is comfortable to rest on your lap for extended periods. If, like me, you suffer from dry skin on the hands, you may find the synthetic material catches your skin when you touch it.It takes my 15.6" laptop with ease, though I can't see a 17" not working, as long as the air intakes match, though the USB cable maybe a little short. The fans are in a fixed position, so you're not able to line them up with the intakes on your laptop but blast air upward into the underside. they are a little noisy, much more so than the noise that emanates from my laptop but not at a horrible volume. As for their cooling ability, I can only give a subjective opinion on the fan, as I have no means to measure my laptop's component temperatures. I would say, yes, my laptop felt somewhat cooler with the fans than without and would be effective during a lengthy gaming session. There is a little flap on the back that doubles as a cover for the USB cable stowage and as a leg to rise the stand at the back. This has a small notch to allow the cable to pass through. The cable itself, as hinted above, is a little short and, though I was able to fit it into a port, struggled with those nearer the front. The aesthetic design is simple and pleasing, though nothing special - but you're not going to see much of it anyway.

This is a handy piece of kit if your neck and back are beginning to cause you some pain. It helps you look up and sit up straight which naturally takes some of that pain away. A little pamphlet opens up inside telling you how high you should have it set based on your hand size - make what you will of that, I just use the setting that feels most comfortable to me.The reason for it losing 1 star is for 2 things:1. The mechanism used for tightening the hinge up just seems to have the potential to break. I have no idea what it is, seems like some sort of spring mechanism, but because I have to tighten it up pretty tight to cope with the weight of my laptop (I have a 17" screen)it makes think that if I have to repeat this process a number of times (say if I was to move it around in a laptop case) it might break. This sounds a bit trivial, but just something to think about. Luckily I stay in one place so I've not had to do that much, and it's held in place well for few months now.2. The bottom edge of my laptop is half curved and half square (i.e. if my laptop thickness is 150 mm, 75 mm is a curve and 75 mm is flat) which means there's not a great deal in contact with the bottom lip of the bracket which supports the weight of the laptop. This means that if the laptop or bracket is nudged a little, the laptop slides straight off the bracket which could cause damage to something. This is the main reason I gave it 1 less star.Overall I'm very glad I bought it and would recommend it for the 11 pounds I paid. Unfortunately I can't compare it against anything else as I've not really bought anything else like this. The main reason I bought it is because I am doing a lot of computer programming and coding as part of my masters course so I tend to spend a lot of time at my laptop. Naturally your body is strained when doing activities like this, but this Kensington laptop stand has helped to alleviate some of this strain.

From Kensington, a company whose products I have always held in high regard, comes this elegant laptop cooling stand.Measuring, on the top face, 360 wide x 270mm from front to back the stand is supposed to take up to a 17" laptop. Mine is a 15.6" and slightly overhangs each edge so I suppose you might just get away with the bigger size. Manufactured from black moulded plastic the top plate has an attractive pattern embossed into it, which also contains the ventilation holes for the 2 x 80mm cooling fans. There are also 4 grey soft strips let into the top panel to give the laptop a cushioned rest. The stand is 30mm thick at its deepest point and the 2 end panels have ventilation slots moulded in them so the air flow is across and up doing away with the need for holes in the bottom panel. This bottom panel is covered in a grey spongy fabric material which provides a degree of comfort if you are resting it on your knees. Protection to hard surfaces is provided by 2 black rubbery foam strips stuck near to each edge and the front face. The USB power lead for the fans is housed under a hinged flap at the back of the stand. This flap will also act as an elevation stand if you want your laptop sloped. One nice little touch is the slot cut into the flap to house the cable should you want to use the stand with the flap closed.Plugging the USB lead into my laptop powered the cooling fans up and whilst not the quietest on the planet were unobtrusive against a general background noise. If I was using it in the dead of night I might unplug the fans and rely on natural convection, it will still have more cooling effect than leaving the laptop resting on its own base. All in all a nice, well made product from a company with a good reputation.

The coolest thing about this laptop riser isn't that it can come QI wireless enabled. Nor is it the cable management system under the upper deck, or the fact that you can strap a docking station under the top.No, to me it's coolest feature is how portable it is.It really is grab and go. If you're working on a laptop, you really need an external screen. And if you haven't got one of those, or you need to move around at home or at work, then the Kensington Laptop Riser is perfect. It's really sturdy but also really, really light. So you can just grab it and move from the kitchen to the living room, or the living room to the conservatory.Add a wireless keyboard and mouse into the mix and you're good to go.The height-adjustable legs secure easily with two easy-grab screws, so you can choose the right height for you out of four available settings. If you need help with that, Kensington's SmartFit sizing guide makes it easy for you.The rubber pads on the base stop and sliding, and the base is great for dumping your mobile. If your mobile phone support QI Wireless Charging, you're in for a treat, your phone will charge wirelessly on the bottom tray, so long as the tray is plugged into the supplied micro-usb charger. Finally, if you work in an open office, you can take advantage of the Kensington security slot to lock it down with a compatible cable. It could do with being a little higher if you're really tall and there's some wobble if your desk wobbles, but apart from that I like it a lot.

This is reasonably quick to assemble with a screwdriver. The height is adjustable to four different settings - the instruction booklet includes a colour coded sizing guide on which you place your hand, which is supposed to indicate how to adjust the height. Although it worked for me I'm not convinced that this would work in general. I would have thought that adjusting your chair correctly would be the first point of call, then adjusting this riser accordingly so that when looking straight ahead you are looking near the top of the screen, which will in itself depend on your desk height. It is not intended that you would type on the laptop in this riser, and if you do it wobbles about a bit - you are expected to attach an external keyboard. I would have preferred it if the base with the Qi charger did not extend forward so much so that I could push my external keyboard a bit further away from me (though if that had been the case it may well be less stable).Whilst this riser does the job it seems rather expensive for what it is. This is the variant with the built-in Qi charger, but the version without is fifty quid for what is effectively just a couple of pieces of plastic joined via two strips of metal. And an extra fifty for a phone charger seems rather steep too.

This cooler is excellent quality. It is sturdy and well made.It has a plastic top with four oblong rubber feet which keep my laptop from slipping. and underneath is a sort of hardwearing fabric which along with the rubber feet stop my laptop from moving when I Am using it on my glass top computer table. It has two cooling fans and the USB for these is keep in a little snap shut compartment at the back. You can keep this closed with the USB cable running through a cut out channel and keeping the computer flat, or, you can keep it open and use it to tilt the back of the cooler up so that the computer is at an angle. When the fans are in use they are really quite,I had to put my ear close the cooler to able to hear anything at all so when you are are in your normal sitting position they are as good as silent. For this price you get a really quite to fan cooler, very well made and I think it would be hard to beat.My first picture is the underneath view of the cooler, the second is the top showing four oblong rubber feet and two fans, the third is the cable running through the cut out channel, the next is of the outer packaging and the last one is the cable in the snap shut compartment.

The Kensington Laptop Cooling Stand is a really good quality and well constructed device. It has the look that it should have cost much more than the £15GBp it cost at the time of writing.(It was originally at £41GBP so that is some reduction)If you are going to buy a laptop cooler you could do a lot worse than paying a couple of quid more to get one of this quality from a well known and reliable make.It is a bargain simply because it performs its task so well. What the two fans do is circulate the air under the laptop, where the heat builds up, and divert it away.A hot battery is less efficient and ultimately will not last as long.My son’s Dell Laptop had to have 2 battery replacements becausehe used it so much. This inexpensive device would have prevent the high cost of replacements not to mention the inconvenience of having a dead laptop. The design has 4 pads which provide a stable platform for your laptop and the angle or slope provides a comfortable angle to operate your machine. However this design is really for when you have a flat surface or a desk to work on.On your lap it is not so good.Recommended.Thank you for reading.

I found i was getting neck pains from looking down at my laptop on the desk, and saw this when looking around on Amazon. The stand is robust for the money and supports the laptop fine. It's adjustable at the hinge for the angle the laptop/screen sits at so should suit laptops of various sizes, also making it re-usable if you buy or have another notebook. I was slightly worried that the power cable, and network cable when not used wirelessly, are high up and not athe ideal angle for an electrical connection (might strain the cable), but you can rest the cables along the hinge taking the weight and strain off the actual cables,so in fact no problem. The laptop rests a reasonable amount of its weight on the bottom of the stand and can move a bit with just a little provocation - for example when adjusting the screen angle - and although this is perfectly safe and it doesn't mean the laptop will dislodge itself (it doesn't, it just moves very slightly), this could be made slightly better to support the laptop and hence 4 not 5 stars, but that's splitting hairs really. Recommended as good value for money that should last a long time.

I looked through all the reviews and this seemed to be get all round good reviews.I'm a translation student so spend all day on my laptop. This is why I would recommend it:- VERY stable (no need to use a separate keyboard)- great size (I have a macbook standard, 13inch screen. The mac book has about 2cm overhang on each side of the holder, so it fits nicely and is well balanced)- the holder height can be altered to correspond to your desk height, your own height etc (so you can literally have it at any slant you like)- it fold down flat so you can easily carry it with you to the library/work on trips etc- very light weight frame- the frame that it sits on has a cut out - ie does not sit on a plastic platform.this is great for helping the laptop to 'breathe' or cool down- and of course the price!so don't waste your money on more expensive ones. this is fantastic. I was initially wary because it was plastic and cheap but it is worth every penny! In fact the sides have a nice feel to it, which helps to hold the laptop in place so it doesn't have a cheap plastic-y look/feelHope this helps!:-)

I was asked if I’d like to review the Kensington LiftOff Stand - Portable Ergonomic Laptop Cooling Stand (up to 17") with SmartFit System (K60149EU), and I said yes.I have two laptops, both of which are different sizes, so I thought this would be ideal. The object of the cooling stand is to stop your laptop from overheating as it provides constant airflow, which helps to reduce the battery strain and improves the operating efficiency of your laptop. You can set this stand to two different heights. Therefore, your laptop screen is at eye level, which helps to get you into the correct seated position.Once you put your laptop on the cooling stand, it stays put and it doesn’t move when you use it.This is well made from good quality plastic, and it’s finished off properly. It’s very sturdy so it should last a while. It also comes with a 2 years warranty. You’ll find that stand has a built in handle so it’s easy to carry, and can fit into a laptop case, so it can be stored away, (my stand is safe and secure in my laptop bag when it’s not being used.I can personally recommend this product.

I don't think I have ever owned such a well thought out and well made cooling stand. In the past I have bought many some have amazed me with how poorly made or how badly designed they have been, some make more noise than my spin cycle on the washer. This cooling stand is robust, well made and fit for purpose something you rarely find at such a low price point. It has sturdy feet and doesn't slide around and when in use. It runs smoothly and quietly so much so you wouldn't know it was there. My son who uses this under his laptop and likes how it lifts and slightly tilts the laptop making his keyboard more user friendly. We have been using cooling stands in our home for many years, they have even been set up under gaming consoles to help keep cool and disperse heat. I think they are a must have as the devises we use give off immense heat while working. If it prolongs the life of an already expense gadget then it's a necessity not a luxury.Buy this with confidence you will not be disappointed.(Used under HP touch screen laptop 15 inch)

I'm happy with this cooling stand. It plugs into the laptop via the built-in USB cable and the benefits are noticeable, my laptop does not get as hot as before when it's been on for hours. My old machine wore out through over-heating and I believe if I'd had this stand, perhaps it would have lasted longer. The only negative is that it's not quite big enough for my current machine (Dell Precision M6800). The machine overhangs the stand by a good couple of inches width-wise and by a centimeter on the front. However to counter the negative, the laptop doesn't slide at all when in use and the fans are in the middle of the stand so the crucial elements are all in contact with the machine. If you don't need to move the machine around a lot then this stand works with bigger laptops.Be aware that the stand raises the machine up by 3cm. I've got a shelf at the back of my desk and this extra height means that my laptop (when open) can no longer be pushed under the shelf when I want to get it out of the way to use my desk for other things.

There comes a time in every laptop's life when, unless you can afford one with a full SSD that the hard drive begins to get hot, and ventilation can become an issue. I have a 17" and it's reached that point...This stand is purely a stand, it doesn't have built in fans like some you can buy, but it is collapsible and thus portable, and by raising the laptop off the surface provides ventilation and also gives a gentle slope to your keyboard, which is something I miss on a laptop. The stand is around A4 in size, the width being the shorter dimension. It has non-slip feet and a non-slip holder for the laptop. The prop that holds it open is metal and has 2 choice of height grooves to sit in firmly. It won't collapse. Despite my laptop being 17" and thus nearly twice the width of the stand, but it is still stable - and even resting my wrist on one of the corners, doesn't cause it to become displaced. And this extra air under my laptop is helping the cooling. So top score all round for this effective little stand.
