I've never tried Keen boots before. I ordered this boot in an 8 and 8 1/2, normal boot sizes for me, my 3rd and 4th pair of boots I've tried from Amazon. I had high hopes that the toe box was roomy enough for my borderline wide feet. The 8 was too small before even lacing it up. If I were buying a summer hiking boot I might have kept the 8 1/2 but as I wanted a winter boot I also want to be able to wear thicker socks. I also always add in arch support inserts and often add a thin memory foam insert. I felt these boots needed the memory foam under the toes as they were a bit hard in my opinion, unfortunately that made the toe area just a tad too snug across the top so both pairs are going back. The boxes arrived in one package, the outer package was torn, the box for the 8 1/2 was smashed up a bit, and the right boot has a deep crease in the leather across the top of toe. I have 2 return labels and will have to find my own box to return the one pair. Not happy about that or that neither size worked out.To help others with sizing my size according to the shoe store is 7 1/2, I am right on the line between normal and wide width.Back to boot shopping. Unfortunately.Appreciate Amazon Prime free returns!***************************************************************************************************************************************Update 12/30/2018I ended up buying these Keen boots in a size 9 from a brick & mortar store a few weeks ago so I have upgraded my rating to 4 stars. The reason for the higher rating is because they are waterproof as advertised and for the walking I do which is in fields, woods, swamps, for an hour or so in Northern MI, they are warm enough with thicker socks. I have done chores wearing them including filling a tank and cleaning stalls, no wet feet, but if I don't move enough my toes got cold so not for standing around in.The reason I will not give these 4 stars is because even with an extra full memory foam foot insert and good socks I don't find them very cushy under my toes; I've had cheaper boots that were much more comfortable in that area and when it's time to find a summer hiking boot Keen won't be on my radar, I will be looking for a nice lightweight boot with more padding.

I ordered these in my usual size 9M, and my feet were swimming in them. Even with thick socks and orthotic inserts. No complaints though, as the seller sent free return label and promptly refunded full price. Re-ordered size 8.5M and my feet were still sliding around until I tried two pairs of socks, which solved the problem. Really these boots should not be labled "M". I can't take off a star because they are great boots, but they are wider than any "medium" boot I have ever worn. The top part around the ankle is made of fabric that has some give in it, so they don't cut into the ankle as some boots do. They give you the ankle support without the pain.If you like arch support you will probably want to add an insert. The main reason I got these Keens is that my old hiking boots (which are part leather and part fabric - the kind that looks like netting) are no good in wet snow. Even though they have Gortex liners which keep the feet dry when I step into a stream or a puddle, they just don't stand up to a steady soaking of hiking through slushy snow. Wet feet are such a buzzkill. Today I wore the new Keans for an hour long hike in the miserable icy slush this last snowstorm gifted us and came home with very wet pant legs but very dry feet. The new boots are doing their job! (Why even go out in such weather? Gotta run the dogs.)Oh, and last but not least, love the red color. So cheerful!

This is my second pair of these boots. I wear them for work five days a week through all four seasons and have not to date found a better boot. Right out of the box they feel broken in and there isn't the stiffness that comes with most leather boots. Worn throughout the winter they keep my feet warm and in summer they are still a good boot, I have not felt like my feet are too hot. The front of the boots have remained in tact and have not pulled away like many boots of these style often do. Some waterproofing spray or oil will definitely help extend the life and look of these. Based on other reviews, I order a half size up and they fit perfectly, especially with thicker socks (normally a US Women's 7.5 and ordered an 8 both times). After a decent amount of wear you will likely have to replace the laces, I made it about 9 months but this is typical for every day wear. My only improvement would be more choice of colors instead of the pink accents.

I bought this shoe because I was looking for a more durable waterproof shoe that could handle soggy tundra and heavy rain. My previous waterproof hiking shoes fell apart about a month before a planned backpacking trip around the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge and Joshua Green valley near Cold Bay, AK. For being lightly broken in before the 6-day, 40+ mile round trip, they did as expected - they held up to the soggy terrain but I did get a few hot spots that were managed with mole skin. Furthermore, hiking in upper 50/low 60 degree weather, my feet were way too hot. I also plan on wearing these for winter day-hunting trips, which they are likely better suited for.Additionally, they were a little too wide for my medium width feet and offered little arch support. I think a good pair of insoles will fix this problem for me. I wore fairly thick socks on the trip, but the shoe has room for doubling up your socks, if desired.

I usually wear a size 8 or 8.5 in Keen shoes. I ordered the size 8 but had to return them because they were too small and my toes were at the top. I repurchased these boots in a size 8.5 and the fit was much better. I have a narrow foot too. I love Keen hiking boots and they last a good deal of time for me. My first pair of winter Keen hiking boots lasted 20 years! No lie! They finally have broken down inside. The outside still looks great, but the soles are much heavier than the newer Keen hiking boots. If it says waterproof, it is! I wear mine through big puddles, streams, mud, snow, etc. and my feet are always dry. The one thing I do change are the insoles. I upgrade to the Keen Utility K-20 cushion insoles.Much more comfort and a little tighter fit for my narrow feet. Wish Keen would put these insoles in their shoes from factory. I am a solid fan of Keen hiking boots!

I am a size 6..5 to 7 shoe (sz 6 sandle) This boot is an 8. It feels much too big, but with a warm thick sock it feels just right. Does not feel clunky walking around the house. The boot is way more expensive than I usually pay, but have been looking for a few years for a black short boot that is waterproof and very warm that I can get away with wearing to church, funerals, (not weddings), out to eat etc. It's a hiking boot, not a dress boot, but a dress boot doesn't have the warm qualities I want. So this was the best solution. A black hiking boot that is waterproof and warm. Will be annoying to only be able to wear these with big thick socks, and kind of weird looking to wear at semi dress occasions But will be totally worth it!I live in northern MN by Lake Superior where it gets very cold, so there is no chance that I won't get plenty of use out of these.

I've been buying Keen boots (mostly the Targhee model) for the larger part of the last decade because of the wide toe box and they're super light weight. The toe box on these is tighter than on their Targhee boots and because of that I had to switch to dress socks from heavy wool socks. These boots have proven to be very warm so the switch wasn't a big deal. The metal eyelets have proven to be much more durable than the cloth eyelets on the the Targhee and much easier on the laces. Also the tread pattern on these boots lasts longer than on the Targhee boot.If you need the very wide toe box that keens are known for approach these boots with caution.Otherwise these are great boots that last longer than the usual keen boots.

Wow! I am very happy with these. I have been looking for a long time to find a pair of boots that could work in multiple settings including overseas travel. These are extremely comfortable from the get go. Normally, I have to break in shoes and this involves bleeding and blisters. These boots did not hurt my feet and I am blister free straight out of the box they are extremely well made and solid materials including a very thick leather on the main part of the boot. The quilting is not heavy at all and feels very comfortable. I got the racing red/eggshell color and it is a very subtle red that blends with earth tones. It doesn't stand out as red normally does. I am beyond pleased with these.Thank you, Keen.

I bought these to replace a different pair of Keens which I had to return since they were just were too cramped, and even with thin socks I didn't have enough toe room. Keens seem not as roomy for me as they once were, and I have bought many pairs over the years. This pair I bought a full size larger than my regular shoe size (6 1/2). They were extremely comfortable right out of the box. I wore them the entire winter and they were warm and had good traction. This has been a cold, wet spring and they continue to keep me warm and dry. The ankle support is excellent. I am sure that with thinner socks they will be equally useful for summer hikes. They have renewed my faith in Keen products!.

The best Keen has to offer! I have many pairs of Keen boots. I like them all. But these have become my favorite. I bought both the red and the black colors. Keeps your feet toasty warm. I use hard plastic 3/4 arch supports (Spenco) so I always buy a half size up--and these accommodated the arch supports easily, plus had room for thick wool socks. This is usual with my Keen purchases. Not that these don't have good arch support, it is just something my feet need--the extra support. Totally waterproof, easy fit and so-ooo comfortable right out of the box! I can see these lasting for years of winter hiking! Highly recommended. And I love Amazon prices!

The insulation in this pair of Keen boots is amazing. I have struggled all my life with recurring frostbite in my toes. These boots are so warm, it almost feels like they have little electric heaters in them. I used to use the stick-on chemical heating pads when hiking in the winter. These Keen boots may make those pads unnecessary. The generous fit in the toe box also helps with warmth. I did order a half size up from normal, to give me lots of space for heavy winter socks. I recommend these Keen boots highly to anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors in the winter, and who wants her feet to be as comfortable as if it were July.

I wore these for 32 days, nonstop. I hiked some jungles, went up mountains, trekked through the country side, and I was good. Some of my hikes went on for about 12 hours/day with some break in between. The boots were not bad.I should add that the slip grip is not great. I found myself slipping a bit on some watery grounds unexpectedly in the jungle. So I couldn't trust it to keep me stable at all times. On the flip side, it did not require that I break the shoes in for comfort. They felt comfortable to wear from day 1, and that was great. Overall, the boots are great, just be careful when trekking in wet or slimy areas.

I absolutely love this boot! I have been wearing them to walk my dog in rain, cold and snow and thet have been great! They are very warm and waterproof. I even hosed them off while wearing them once and no water got in. I have medium width feet and I wasn't sure if these would be too loose. There is a lot of room in the toe area, but they are very comfortable. I haven't worn them for long hikes, but I can easily walk in them for two or three miles on sidewalks or grass. Style wise they are kind if cute, but they do make my feet look wider than they are. They are ankle height so not good for significant snowfalls.

I purchased a pair of these and after 2 weeks of use the soles came loose and unglued. I returned and exchanged for a pair just like them and so far they are doing well. I love the boot as it's is very comfortable and the soles are not quite as hard as some of the other styles and I need a bit softer sole. It provides plenty room for my orthotics and the ankle support is absolutely wonderful. It fits pretty much to size but could be running a 1/2 size small but since my orthotics fit well I think they are pretty close to size. No pain and very comfortable out of the box.

i just wore these hiking boots all over northern AZ and south UT, for countless hikes and have no complaints. they kept my feet warm and the grip was great for some riskier hikes i may not have done without them. also they got wet and kept my feet dry which was great. i'm very happy with this purchase.i typically wear a 7.5 - 8 so i bought an 8 thinking i might wear thicker socks. they are true to size and are a little big when i am wearing thinner socks but fit perfectly with thick wool socks. i'd buy an 8 again although i think a 7.5 could work too.
