Can't tell you how much of a success this was with my 4 and 6-year old girls. As said by many other reviewers, the key to these (quite pricey) planks is the engineering so that they are identical for size, weight and have perfect right angles. That makes them wonderfully tactile - it really is easy to start chucking up towers and bridges. And because it's easy and quick, you don't mind making mistakes to re-work or tipping them over.I had expected it to take a little time for the kids to see the attraction. In fact, I built a simple square tower and as soon as I was on the eighth plank, they had taken over and have been unstoppable since. Then (ahem) after they went to bed I built Tower Bridge.Regarding this particular set,you get a super-robust cardboard box with reinforced edges. I'm not sure it'll stand the test as well as the proper wooden (even more expensive) box sets, but you pays your money and takes your choice. The enclosed booklet has a small handful of ideas for construction techniques, but leaves you to figure out plenty for yourself, which is sort of the point.

I bought Kapla as a Christmas present for 5 year old grand-daughter, at her Dad's request. It didn't get much attention on Christmas Day, but it's being used with enthusiasm now some of the other gifts have been used up/broken, and was also played with a lot by our other grandchildren who were staying over - there were so many in this pack that no-one quarreled about not having enough bricks. I can see it's something which will appeal enormously to a certain type of child (not all) because of the pleasing way the parts fit together and the fact that it doesn't limit the imagination. Her Dad really likes it too! It reminds me of the years of fun my brother and I had during the late '40s and 50s with a construction toy called Lott's Bricks. These were bricks of imitation stone in about 8 different sizes, which (when new) fitted together just as pleasingly, though were much heavier. Does anyone remember them?

When we first opened this present (it was a requested present)I thought they are just pieces of wood all cut to the same size so I thought very expensive for what you see but having said that the children of7/8/3years have played and constructed many things with them and in the age of tv and computers it is great to see them enjoying 'learning skills whilst they play'So although I thought expensive I think we will be adding to it with more across the family. These are also used in many schools as well (I am told)Thanks

Surprisingly entertaining. Our boys are aged 8 and 6 now, but they started playing with it a year ago. They love playing with these little wooden planks surprisingly often. I had wondered how some simple pieces of wood could be fun, but my kids have proved me wrong. They have come up with all kinds of different creations. Everything from some of the suggestions shown in the book that came with the box, through to lots of their own creations: buildings, towers, ramps, etc.

We gave a set of 200 blocks to our boys (4 and 2) who love to build the most creative and imaginative structures with it - anything from towers to boats, even horses... :) This is a wonderful toy that will keep children interested for years and years as they learn to build more complex structures and incorporate these into their other games. Can only recommend. 200 blocks are a good starting point, enough to start building interesting things at the beginning.

Fabulous product.... such a simple idea that has kept my 6 year olds entertained for hours. My only criticism is that the instruction book it comes with contains pictures of huge, elaborate designs that would require several boxes of these to build. My 6 year olds now want to build designs that they do not have enough blocks for. I’ve had to go online to print off designs that contain less blocks for them to copy.

I make 80% of my purchases on amazon and I have no time to write reviews, but Kapla deserves a review. My son uses his imagination to build everything imaginable for his age (a farm, a bridge, a castle, a tower...etc). I always join him to have fun. Seriously great and just like Lego, it is not made for a certain age. Unlike of many other toys he has and will have, this box will stay with us for a life time.

This is the secret of Kapla: one shape, no glueing or cutting or screwing and yet one can build an infinite number of things. Sorry no pictures because my grandson does the building and he lives in France. I could ask his mother to send me some because I know she took some each time he finished something and before he knockd it down!Read full review...

Was a bit suspicious when I realised that a box of same size blocks had cost so much money but once my daughter saw them she soon started constructing and even I have made a few houses, we have googled images and made some wonderful things. This is so good for their imagination and am even thinking about getting some coloured blocks next

This is the 3rd set of Kapla I have purchased for my young grandchildren, and it is much loved and used by them all. Even the parents have built constructions, so it really is an all round family product that all the family, whatever their ages can enjoy and learn from. Highly recommend.

These small bricks build so much involving creativity, logical thinking, motor skills, spacial awareness, concentration, patience, resilience and the list goes on. A must have in every household! That box gives enough bricks to build amazing creations at a fair price.

One of the best toys ever, endless possibilities and grows with the child, kids learn and absorb the principles of construction and design, learn how to work from models and gain endless satisfaction. It lasts forever and can be passed on to the next generation

Bought this for myself, and was very good. Extremely cheap, at only £11,000, making this a must-but for anyone. You can easily fit the pieces together, so no wonder each small stick is only £20! (hint of sarcasm)
