Provided in the 'bent neck' bottle that has become synonymous with JP Chenet, this is an interesting addition to the relatively inexpensive non-vintage brandy offerings popularly available. Objectively speaking the product is well presented; the bottle is decent, the cork of reasonable quality, and the labelling subtle -usually a wise approach, especially for companies who are non-specialist producers or providers. The colour is a pleasent warm amber. So far so good.Taste being what it is, and entirely subjective, what I experience is unlikely to be exactly the same as anybody else, other than in the broadest terms. That caveat over, this is a smooth offering, at the heavy end of medium-bodied,and the description of it being suitable for drinking neat, as a spirit in a cocktail (using the term loosely) or over ice. It is also relatively sweet to my palate. Whether you get the 'outburst of flavours going from floral and fruity notes, light and fresh, to sweeter vanilla notes' that the advertising copy claims is another matter entirely. I didn't. What I did get was the impression this has come straight from Martell cognac distillery, because while I don't have a bottle of the latter to back-to-back compare, they do seem to share some strong characteristics, especially the (to my taste) dominant liquorice taste. It's not entirely overpowering; there are some crystallised fruit hints too, and a faint touch of florals (violets I think, but they are subtle) but the sweetness and liquorice are the main impressions, making this a characterful brandy, and (like Martell) thus something of an acquired taste. Frankly I haven't acquired it -I don't like liquorice and never have, so it isn't really for me. However, it seems to be well-realised, and if you do like that, this will be an asset. It isn't going to trouble Courvoisier or Remy Martin in terms of overall standard, but it's OK if you like the flavour and general balance, so I would call it a welcome addition to the options in this price range.

This is a very nice brandy and makes for a perfect gift as the Chenet signature bottle and packaging add a touch of something special. The brandy itself is certainly very high quality, deserving of the XO marque - although I have had some VSOPs which might appeal to brandy purists more. Of course, some aficionados love the breadth of options rather than simply one interpretation of how brandy should be, so I hope I'm not doing them a disservice - certain brandy snobs, though, might feel the Chenet XO is a brandy for non-brandy drinkers.Nonetheless, the Chenet is very easy brandy to drink - slightly sweet and equally good either straight in a traditional snifter (warmed by one's hand)or in a highball with ice cubes and a mixer. If you prefer your brandy on the heavy side, this might be for you, unless you want to keep "the good stuff" for yourself and want something else for mixers. If your view of brandy is the warming, winter and post-dinner drink, this may be different to what you're used to - but I would not say it's inappropriate or bad. Taste is a subjective thing and I struggle to tell people that they will categorically like one thing over another, but for my purposes, and as an occasional brandy drinker, I would be happy to give or receive this as a gift.

JP Chenet is the top selling brand of French wine and is easily recognised in it's distinctive wide-bodied bottle with the bent neck – a design known affectionately as Josephine. This non vintage XO brandy is supplied in the same type of bottle so is easily recognisable as a JP Chenet product. I generally enjoy most JP Chenet wines and it is a brand I normally buy when in France and sometimes from my local supermarket when it is on offer. This XO brandy is a decent value multi-purpose variety that is smooth enough to drink on it's own, in a brandy glass at room temperature, and is cheap enough to use in your cocktails and cooking or with a wide variety of mixers to suit the occasion. This is a light, slightly sweet brandy that is supplied in a typical JP Chenet 70cl bottle that is easy to spot on the shelf; it is a slightly lower strength than some others at 36% alcohol by volume and I'm sure it will be enjoyed by many fans of JP Chenet wines. Good value at around twenty-two pounds currently from Amazon this brandy would make a good addition to your drinks cabinet.

I have a vast collection of Brandy. I used to live in Sofia Bulgaria and for the money, there is no better Brandy's than Preslav 1976 produced on the Danube Delta and Black Sea Gold XO 35 years old. Preslav 1976 sells in Bulgaria for about 90 Lev or about £45 and Black Sea which is outstanding sells for £35. If you ever go to Bulgaria and you are a Brandy lover, bring a bottle of BG XO home, it beats anything the French can produce at a price of up to £150. So as you may expect this Chenet XO is not in the same league as those I have already recommended. It is way too sweet for my palate, but that is not to say it's not nice. Its just an acquired taste. It is a medium tasting Brandy, which really does not improve when warmed in the hand. It simply is, what it is, a cheap XO made by a recognised producer with a quirky bottle. Personally, as it is so sweet, I will use it for the Christmas Cake and I am sure it will be perfect for that use. Its nice and some people will love it, but its just too sweet for me.

I'm not really a brandy drinker - my usual exposure to the spirit is via brandy butter at Christmas. This brandy is nothing like the brandy in these products - it's much smoother and more mellow, and doesn't have the acrid notes I have associated with brandy previously. This comes in a bottle with a bent neck - apparently it's JP Chenet's signature look, but I'd never heard of the brand before so I just thought the bottle was defective - I can't say I like it. I was keener on the appearance and aroma of the brandy - a clear golden colour, and a pleasant fruity scent. My initial taste surprised me with its smoothness and the flavour of apples. This lingered, and more floral notes came in. Overall,it was a very easy to drink brandy neat. I think it might get a little lost in a cocktail or with a mixer as it isn't very strongly flavoured, and at 36%, has less alcohol than other spirits.A nice little after dinner wind down.

I wasn't holding out much hope for this XO Brandy from J.P. Chenet, based on the price point and unimpressive past experience of some of their wines. Sometimes, it's a very nice thing to be proved wrong.Far from the astringent paint stripper-like experience I was expecting, this low-priced brandy is a pleasant, soft, rounded tipple that's eminently palatable, has a slight sweetness to it and is nice to drink without any mixers. The colour is a rich, golden amber. The gift pack - which differed from the one depicted - was the only thing that wasn't particularly impressive. This was a very thin printed card box, with a thin card collar around the bottle that had ripped in transit.Very good, budget X.O. brandy.

I'm more of a whisky person than brandy, but having seen the JP Chennet brand thought I'd give it a go - and glad I am that I did.As other reviews have already mentioned, for a brandy it is sweeter than you might expect. Whether that's to your taste is another matter, but I found it went well with other mixers, such as cola and lemonade to make a longer, summer drink.Additionally, if poured over ice it is a very nice drink and, for whatever reason, doesn't seem as sweet! BizarreOne consistent point comes through, however you take it: it is lovely and smooth, with no roughness.Something definitely to keep in the drinks cupboard for the summer months.

This is a quaffable brandy. It is nicely balanced and not harsh in any way. I did not notice any sweetness to this drink, but I am not the brandy expert. It goes down well neat, but even better when mixed with a little lemonade. After drinking and looking at the bottle, you feel that you already have had enough. It is a little expensive for a standard bottle of less than standard strength at only 36% abv. Is this a trend to reducing spirit strength over the years? What started at 40% has now gone to 37% and now this at 36%. In several years time we will be on 35%.

I have to admit that I don't drink much brandy, so I wouldn't consider myself a connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like a glass once in a while.I hadn't heard of JP Chenet before and I have no idea what the difference in quality and taste is between a vintage and non vintage brandy either, so the ultimate test is whether or not it tastes any good.I have to say that I really liked it.It does have a very smooth and rich taste to it.Definitely one to recommend to my friends.

Delicious! Once you've fought your way through inordinate amount of packaging, you get to a nicely presented quirky bottle of very nice, very tasty, very drinkable Brandy. Not harsh or bitter at all. This Brandy is quite delicious - slightly sweet so perfect for drinking neat or mixing with coffee, cola or lemonade. It also works beautifully with cooking - Brandy cream and Brandy butter is delicious! This is a really lovely Brandy which would make a lovely gift too.

A Smooth, Delicate Drink- J.P Chenet are one of the worlds best wine sellers, and their iconic ' wonky neck' bottle ( based around an ancient design) ensures that the bottle is a conversation piece. But what about the contents? Well, this is a very smooth brandy, especially considering the price, and is lovely to drink on its own or as a cocktail base. Sweet, but not oversweet, it has an almost creamy quality, which makes it such a gorgeous drink to savour.

28.7.2018

This brandy has been crafted to have the character of an XO, although I would have to guess that's a matter of blending and perhaps other ingredients rather than aging as there is something missing in terms of finish. But it's a perfectly good smooth, sweet brandy that works well on its own at room temperature for everday situations. The "gift packaging" is just a routine cardboard box.

28.5.2018

As brandys go this is quite sweet and smooth than some i have tried - not harsh at all.Lovely with coke/lemonade and loads of ice - or on its own for an after dinner drink. Because it is a bit sweet it is ideal to be served with dessert instead of a dessert wine. However the most perfect use for this is for christmas cakes, mince pies ect as it gives a rich sweet delicate flavour.

27.5.2018

This a very pleasant drink, smooth but with just enough of a kick to remind you this is a real drink. I have to admit I cannot detect all the claimed fruits and flavours, but it is nonetheless very flavoursome - I just can’t say of what.It comes in a familiar looking brandy bottle with a rather bland label, which on the bottle I received is disconcertingly slightly out of true.

15.7.2018

I'm not normally a huge brandy fan, but this is very palatable. It's got a small kick, but is very smooth and drinkable, with a sweet, light taste. It feels a bit good to just put in cocktails, and it's not very strong (36%) for a 'raw' spirit. The bottle has a slightly leaning neck, which makes it stand out on your shelf!Overall, very easy and drinkable, very tasty!
