First, the important stuff -Pros:• Really efficient• Gets the most out of garlic• Fool-proof• Easy to clean• Can hold 4/5 cloves at onceCons:• Somewhat garish• Quite chunky• Expensive for a garlic-crusher?Now a bit more depth -I've really enjoyed using this. I love garlic in most of my cooking so I'm often using the crusher or slicing away. My basic garlic crusher is often quite messy - half of the cloves don't get mashed properly; it's difficult to clean etc - I'm sure you're familiar with the problems with garlic crushers. This, however, works on a screw basis (unlike normal levered garlic crushers). So thought it would be interesting to see how it pans (heh) out. I've been impressed with the results.I generally squeeze in four or five cloves simultaneously, then align the top lever-screw with the bottom and get pressing. You can see the results in the pictures - basically the garlic gets entirely passed through the base of the crusher. Very little will get caught on the side. If/when that happens, just move it to the centre with a knife and get screwing again. I find I'm not wasting any garlic and, as a result, it's easier to clean too.I don't normally bother with the dishwasher but it's dishwasher safe.Saying that, it is £12-odd for a garlic crusher and it's quite a big item to house in your kitchen drawers. You can't escape the fact that it's also a horrible fluorescent lime colour (that's simultaneously strangely enduring).I love it. Highly recommended.

This is a really clever design. The op part completely unscrews from the bottom half for super easy cleaning. To use you line up the two orange dots (1 on the base "metal squared" part and 1 on the top part with the spiral inside) and just twist and it effortlessly crushes the garlic through the metal mesh. I really like it as I am a death knell to garlic presses - no matter how supposedly robust I always seem to manage to break them. My last solid heavy metal one broke after 6 months when the metal pushing down handle sheared off. I haven't had a crusher for a long time as I think they have all been useless (paint comes off, they shear off, the screws become loose etc.)and have been getting by by bashing the garlic and chopping it fine or crushing in a pestle and mortar but a crusher is useful for small amounts in yoghurt and salad dressings and my kids like the garlic crushed and unidentifiable in pasta pomodoro. We ahev been very impressed by this - no force is needed, so it would be great for those with arthritis or the elderly or young. the on;y downside is the colour - swampy, murky green. I have a few Joseph and Joseph products ( a rubber draining mat, a spatula whisk and chopping board) and they are all a cheerful bright, lime green. I expected this to match them but the green is darker and more murky and looks rather unattractive. It is also slightly marled which looks a bit dirty - so one star off for that.

So I ordered this without really looking at the reviews, Joseph Joseph products are usually pretty good and I needed a new garlic press as my existing one was terrible.I read some reviews after I ordered it and was slightly put off by some of the bad ones. Don’t listen to the bad reviews, this garlic press is great - definitely the best one I’ve had (and I’ve had a few). You can get a number of garlic cloves in it so you don’t have to operate it as many times as usual if you’re using a lot, which I generally do. Figuring out how to actually use it first time is probably the only down side but when you’ve got it you’ve got it, that’ll only happen once. The mechanism is really effective and prevents garlic from squishing back out of the top of the press which virtually every press I’ve had before has done. Yes, 100% of the garlic isn’t pressed through and a very small amount is left after each operation, but no big deal. It’s not difficult to clean out after, I use the handle end of a teaspoon to scrape any remnants of a garlic out of the device, then straight in the dishwasher. Job done.

Box was open when delivered as another parcel had leaked all over it, driver fully explained and was really helpful on advising what options we had which was quite amazing but it was nothing to affect the product ( wanted to give a shout out to the drivers as some are fantastic like this guy)Anyway back to the product, I looked at some different garlic crushers and liked the idea of this one so gave it a try it is made of sturdy plastic and comes as a two piece when crushing garlic I found there was a tiny sliver of garlic stuck at the bottom in the metal grate which seemed no Biggie but when I rinsed it some garlic still stayed and this is when I realised the metal grate is fused into theplastic and not the best idea.I tried again with another few pieces and same thing happened but this still a good product the amount stuck is really a sliver. The only other thing is that the plastic handle flexes when you squeeze tightly but I think it will last.

My wife has a love-hate relationship with garlic presses. She loves to hate them. This is mostly because she has arthritis, which means she struggles with the traditional design - she finds she does not have enough wrist strength to use them. When I got this, she was not convinced it would work. To be honest, at first, she hated it, as it is so different to anything else we have used. You untwist it, and the top and bottom parts come apart. You load in the garlic. You then align the two parts; it is a bit like a corkscrew. You twist the two handles towards each other, which then forces the garlic through the metal holes at the bottom.Once she got used to using this, however, she says she would not use another garlic press, ever. The main reason is that rather than using your wrists to push down, you are using your arms to squeeze the handles towards each other. So, in our household at least, it is another win for Joseph Joseph products.

Although this is a robustly constructed garlic press, it is bulkier than alternatives and also requires cloves are peeled before crushing, which adds to the labour process. Having said that, the innovative twist design means that it is easy to crush cloves and produce the most garlic from the process. Crushing multiple cloves at the same time requires more effort than for just one although the corkscrew twist of the handles lightens the load. A little red dot indicates handle positioning and it separates out for easy cleaning, whether by hand or in the dishwasher. So, it works well as a garlic crusher I am just not convinced of the size and thus storage space needed vs using a smalleralternative.

I bought the garlic press after having been impressed with the lime/lemon juicer (which I love!). Joseph Joseph did not disappoint with their garlic press. My previous traditional garlic press broke in half while I was trying to squeeze the garlic through (I may have put in 3 cloves when it could really only take 1 at a time). With the Joseph Joseph garlic press, I can easily fit 3-4 cloves no problem. It minces every single bit of the garlic - no more having to pull out flat pieces and chopping by hand like I had to do with my old garlic press. However, you DO still have to scrape some remaining garlic out of the press, which I do easily enough with a small spoon.

The xcrew press is light to use and it is easier and safer than a folding press. I think it would be usable by kids and people with weakness in arms or wrists. It is very sturdy and dishwasher safe.A handy feature is that, with the press empty and closed, you can press the top to burst the garlic clove skin, (see photo) which I've done with a knife up to now. This is better! Not difficult to clean but the basket is deep and there is no spiky press to push the remains out, like some have.It seems to leave more leftovers than others but not much. Very pleased with it. Buy it!

Used as intended as a garlic press. This is much approved on our previous press which was included with a multitude of kitchen apparel.Really easy to use. When cleaning I keep contact with water to a minimum and wash straight away (hand wash) to try and help prolong its life and not cause metal fatigue from keeping in submersed water for prolonged periods.Wife loves it and it’s a necessity as she hates sliced garlic in curries etc.Would recommend.Haven’t used for ginger as I grate that into meals.

I had a metal garlic press that came apart after the second use, and still made it last for years before replacing it. This, with the twisting movement, is so much better. Doesn't require as much strength as the pressing motion, and there are no parts or screws that risk to come unstuck when pressing a clove that is slightly larger than normal. If this ever breaks, I hope the same model is still around as I'd rebuy it over and over again.

What a difference twisting mates compared to the traditional garlic press. The barrel holds a nice amount too. Can get around 5 cloves in at once. However like all garlic presses I've used it does leave a 'husk' in afterwards. I wouldn't listen to those who say everything is removed - I peel the garlic before crushing. But it's a doddle to remove afterwards. Takes a sec literally.

23.4.2018

This is a reasonably easy to use garlic press - rotate the top handle through just over 180 degrees anticlockwise, load the press with garlic and then rotate the handle through just over 180 degrees clockwise. The twist action then presses the garlic cloves - simples! It is also fully dishwasher safe and there is not much more that I can say about it.

19.5.2017

All garlic presses should work like this one. It works with a twist motion, and really mulches the garlic into a paste. It's easy to clean. It also crushes the entire clove without leaving a husk or chunk of uncrushed garlic, so you don't need to fiddle about removing that flat bit of garlic blocking up the works as with the crusher type presses.

15.2.2020

It's been a long time since I was looking for a good garlic press. I tried maybe a dozen different designs, until this one. This is the last garlic press I ever bought, it is super-easy to operate and clean, dishwasher safe, and is super-easy to press the garlic, you basically don't need any muscle power to do that any more.

I am extremely impressed with this product. I have been struggling for a long time with the old style garlic crushers as I no longer have much strength in my grip. This requires no effort at all and was much easier to clean than any other garlic gadget I have tried. Well done Joseph Joseph - yet another brilliant gadget!
