My partner wanted something like this because she thought it would be more efficient for cutting herbs and garlic. We haven’t had anything like this before, so we can only compare it to a regular knife and chopping board, not to other mezzalunas. It’s my partner who does most of the cooking, so she’s the one who’s really road tested this, but she’s used it on a variety of things from herbs and garlic to onions and mustard seeds. (We’ve not used it for nuts yet, though I think that was also a suggestion.)The instructions say to place a damp tea towel under the board for stability. We did this at first, but found it wasn’t really necessary. Perhaps this depends on your work surfaces – ours are wood,so not as slippery as, say, granite – and how vigorously you’re chopping, but we’ve not had a problem without it.The board has a depression, like a shallow bowl, which is enough to keep the food in place so you can use both hands to hold the blade. (We cut the onions in half first, otherwise they would have rolled out. But it’s enough for herbs or smaller things.)The two-handed blade doesn’t feel that sharp if you touch it with your finger, but it makes short work of chopping. With both hands, you can put more pressure on it – and there’s the added advantage that, by not having one hand on what’s being cut, it’s safer too. The result was food that’s more finely diced than we ever had with a more traditional knife.Overall, we’re definitely glad to have this handy piece of kitchenware. We think it’s an improvement over a regular knife and chopping board for certain tasks (though not a replacement for everything). However, this largely reflects the usefulness of a mezzaluna in general, rather than this specific model. As I said at the outset, we’ve not tried others but, at time of writing, I see that Amazon offer others for less than half the RRP of this particular model. It’s not clear what justifies the higher price of this model, other than Jamie Oliver’s celebrity endorsement. I don’t expect we’ll need to buy another any time soon but, if we were, we’d probably choose one of the cheaper ones.(Rating would be 5* without taking price into account but, while we like it, we don't like it THAT much.)

This is my first Mezzaluna and board so am writing from the experience of a complete novice.I have dyspraxia and can struggle with fine and gross motor skills so chopping vegetables can lead to injuries (although I have got it down to a fine art over the years), but chopping vegetables and salad still feels clumsy and awkward for me.This arrived well boxed and with the blade encased in a plastic sheath which I have retained. The board itself is lovely but needs a tea towel underneath it to reduce the risk of it moving when in use.In use...what can I say? I will never ever chop salad or vegetables any other way again. Two handed operation is much much easier than steadying the vegetable with one hand while chopping with the other.I absolutely loved it.So my five star review is very much about my own experience. I know other reviewers have picked up on the base not being non slip. I guess for the price there should be a non slip coating or application underneath but it’s a small thing to just pop a tea towel underneath it for me.Well worth buying one of these....you don’t even need to buy this one as there are lots of these out there. If you struggle with chopping vegetables etc then one of these is your friend.

As other reviewers have noted, it does seem odd that the instructions give guidance to place a wet towel under it to avoid slippage. However, unlike some others I've ignored the advice and have no problem whatsoever - it has been fully stable as I've chopped my coriander! We use it on a granite kitchen surface. No wobbles at all. The board itself is a nice wood and good quality, the curved blade is sharp enough to do the job well. I've knocked off the star because there is no doubt that the price has been upped a little for the branding - you can certainly get better value. However, I've no issues with the product or stability - this is a welcome addition to our kitchen.

This is a nice looking piece of kitchen equipment. It's bigger than other mezzalunas I've seen and made of what looks like olive wood to me. The blade is good and sharp and there is a plastic cover on it which I intend to keep as I think you could easily cut yourself on it. There are two handles on the blade which is what I've seen on others and the shape of the blade fits well into the chopping board making it easy to cut up herbs etc. The instructions say you can chop nuts on it too but I'd be a bit wary of trying to chop up hard nuts on this. It does seem to me to be a good bit of equipment but at £35 it is expensive for what you get.

The quality of this board and blade is lovely, as it should be though for the price. You clearly pay a fair bit more for the Jamie Oliver name as although good as a mezzaluna and board, it's not way ahead of its competitors. That said it is a solid and dependable bit of kitchen kit that is very nicely styled. The blade is sharp and easy to manipulate, the shallow bowl-like board is reasonably stable if you do as instructed and put a damp towel underneath it when using and on the whole ideal for chopping up herbs and the like. If price isn't a huge consideration, you getting a good, nicely packaged kitchen product here.

I don’t want to repeat what the other reviewers have said (but I probably will). It’s a nice product and my daughter has laid claim to it but actually it’s nothing special. There are other Mezzalunas on Amazon (and the web in general) which cost far less and I think it’s an example of paying for the name. I know that the local Jamie Oliver restaurant is referred to as “overpriced and under fed” and I wonder if it’s a feature of the product name. I’m sure it will last the test of time and I know my daughter is more than happy with her new Mezzaluna but the price is just a step too far.

This is a nice piece of kitchen kit. Maybe not essential but useful if you use a lot of fresh herbs like we do. You get a wooden bowl and the chopper which comes with a plastic blade cover. It says to place a towel underneath for stability which I haven’t been doing and I’ve found it’s worked fine. I find the handles perhaps slightly small for my big hands and could do with them being a bit longer to stop my hands slipping downwards. It’s a bit pricey for what it is and the whole towel underneath recommendation is a bit bizarre.

Every cook needs a mezzaluna!Brilliant for rough chopping herbs, retaining texture and flavour in a way a food-processor does not, this is an essential part of a cook's equipment. The mezzaluna itself is very well made, sharp and easy to use: the wooden handles are comfortable and give a firm grip. The bowl is perfectly shaped to fit the curve of the blade, and is very attractive in acacia wood - too nice to live in a cupboard! So - for me, five stars. Does the job, looks the business.

The knife is great but the board partially split after a few uses. It hasn't come apart completely but it probably will after a few more uses. Also the protective cover for the blade falls off easily so you have to be careful how to store it. In a drawer with other utensils that you have to search through is not a good idea.... Trust me! The knife itself, which is the most important part, is great. It is very sharp and easy to use and has stayed sharp so I'm happy with it over all.

This is a lovely piece of wood with a smooth finish. The blade is sharp and cut nuts, herbs and salad leaves with ease. The bowl is nice enough to serve the salad in, looks lovely on the table. The blade comes with a plastic sheathe to protect it and you. As in the description the bowl does move around a bit when using but a silicone mat solved this problem. It comes in a nice box so would make a lovely gift.

I brought this as a gift and it did not disappoint. It is a lot more expensive than others available but its a classy piece of usable kit. The wood for the base is beautiful and well made, its easy to clean and store. The blade is so easy to use, makes light work of chopping garlic :-) Highly recommend if you want something classy, useable and functional.

Finally bought one after watching nigella with one for years !! I make overnight oats and got fed up with nuts flying across the kitchen when chopped with a knife ! This solves that problem and I can chop what I need with a handy board to pour the nuts into a jar ! It’s very sharp so take care !

The one thing I didn’t like about this product is the lack of a safety in terms of the blade ..if it came with a slotted area on the board where you could position it after use ...very dangerous lying around in your utensil drawer with such a sharp but effective “blade “

Very pricey for what it is!! Bought it as a present for my Dads birthday and he absolutely loves it which is the main point I guess! Great quality. Again, wouldn’t have bought it for myself as it is very expensive for what it is and a tiny bit smaller than expected.

This is such a useful item to have in your kitchen. It’s very easy and safe to use as your hands are not near the very sharp blade. I use it to chop nuts, onions, carrots, and other vegetables. The blade has its own shield. I would definitely recommend this product.
