My son wanted a raft to use on a nearby lake. We decided on this Intex Challenger 2 Boat Set, because it had a 2-person capacity and came with the air pump, grab line, and 2 oars at a reasonable price. It features 3 chambers as follows... The 1st chamber is the inflatable floor. It is similar to an inflatable air mattress or pool lounge float. It has the standard plug with cap. The 2nd chamber goes around the perimeter of the floor and has a Boston Valve. The 3rd chamber goes around the outside of the raft and also has a Boston Valve. The raft can still float if one of the outer chambers is punctured (chamber 2 or 3). The Boston valves are nice because they have a 2-in-1 cap.Remove only the top cap to insert air, and remove the bottom cap to remove air.The dual-action air pump appears to be made from cheap plastic but worked well. It puts air in on both the fore and aft strokes. The raft came with 2 plastic oars that come in 2-pieces (plus a connector in the middle), and are 4-foot long when assembled. There are 2 oar holders on each side of the raft to store the oars when not in use. There is also an oar lock on each side to hold the oars in position while rowing. The front of the raft has a nice, large grab handle. The white grab line (rope) comes with the set, and is threaded around the perimeter through the black knobs around the outside and through the bottom holes of the oar holders. The first night we inflated the raft inside our home. The next morning we noticed the exterior 3rd chamber had gone soft. We tried it again and the same thing happened, albeit very slowly. The user manual did mention that if you pump it up during the warm day, and let it sit overnight, the cool night/morning air can cause it to go soft. Next, we took it to the lake to test it out for a couple of hours. It worked perfectly, and we could not detect any leaking air bubbles when we checked the top, bottom and sides by flipping it over in the water. We took it out again the following weekend and had another enjoyable day at the lake, and my son mastered the coordination required to row. After this 2nd trip we pumped it up again at home, and this time the raft was still fully inflated the following morning.Specs and Size:2-person with a maximum capacity of 375 pounds.Size varies from the smaller back to the larger front of the raft as follows:* Exterior Dimensions:92-inch Long x 14-inch High in front and 12-inch High in back.Width is approximately 44-inch across the front and 36-inches across the back.* Interior (seating space):54-inch Long x 9-inch Deep, and 18-inch Wide across the front, and 16-inch Wide across the back.My son and I are both happy with this purchase and recommend this raft for those looking for an inexpensive leisure raft.

Typical UsersI recently bought this inflatable boat for fishing and playing around on lakes. The type of boat I bought is Intex Challenger 2 which is a 2-person inflatable boat. In the package I received, it also came with French Oars and High Output Air Pump. For me, as a novice of outdoor sports, this combo is very convenient. The reason I bought this inflatable boat is that it is really portable. When it’s deflated, the size is compact and you could even put it into the trunk of your car. What’s more, the price is reasonable-only $29.99 with free shipping, if you are a prime member of Amazon. Thus, I believe the ideal user for this boat is the people like me who likes fishing and playing around on waters but still on a budget. If you are this type of person, I strongly recommend you to buy one.Using ExperiencesThe first time when I received the boat, I did not immediately went to lakes. Instead, I wanted to see how long will it took to inflate the boat. The result was decent. It took me less than 10 minutes to set up the boat. The only tool I used was a manual air pump came within the box.Couple weeks later, I brought it to a lake with my friend. Since the size of my boat is compact, we can simply put it into the trunk of my car which is very convenient. When we arrived at the lake, we then inflated the boat and started boating. These things are easy to be done because the boat is very light. Although the boat is only 92.9 inches long and 44.9 inches wide, it feels commodious. It could comfortably sits two adults and till feels roomy. If you plan to use this boat by one person, this is even more suitable for you. You could also put some fishing tools on the rest of the area. The durability of this boat is good. After several times of using-deflating and inflating over and over, my boat is still in perfect condition.Criterion of Evaluating and RatingThe Criterion I use in my review are portable, convenience, durability, size, and price. I am satisfied about all the criterion. Thus, I’ll give this boat a five-star rating and recommend it to you. You will have a great experience with this boat. Enjoy!

Firstly, thanks for all the people who left feedback/reviews for this unit which helped my decision. I bought this boat since I needed something to entertain the kids while camping. Personally, I never got on this type of boat before (rowing, tube/air filled), but I've seen many other people enjoying this type. And I did not want to spend couple hundred dollars or add another bulky item to store in my already cluttered garage.I was deciding between "Intex Explorer 200" ($20 in Amazon) and "Inext Challenger 2" ($33). I did not want to get a too small of a unit since many reviewers inform about the "coziness".The setup was very easy. It came with a pump, and it took about 16~18 minutes to fill up all 3 chambers by two teenaged-kids.I have to give them credit, because it took me about the same time, around 15 minutes. I like the "Boston valve" one, which were for chamber 2 & 3, inside tubing and outer lining tubing. (Sorry, I'm not a sailor, and I don't know what it would be appropriately termed.) because it made deflating very easy. The hull one uses the usual type where you have to hold with two fingers to deflate. Overall, the inflating and deflating process were easy. (I still have to figure out how to put all the stuff back into the original box.)Once setup, the kids enjoyed them very much. Since the kids never "rowed", they had trouble at first, but they figured out eventually. I had enjoyed for two days, and the air seemed to hold ok. (Once inflated, the kids enjoyed it for about 4 hours without inflating it again.)I strictly enforced the "two people" rule, but my friend went on with two kids, and it was fine as well. It was good for upto 250 pounds.Overall, I was extremely satisfied with about 30 bucks of investment, and I would definitely go for something little bigger for my next trip.(Revised) Give 5 stars. Had it for 2+ years. Still worked great. We got more comfortable and confident with this boat (250 pound rating), so this year, we had 3 or 4 kids (now two years older, of course) go in and have fun. (With life vest on)

Absolutely love it! Great purchase! Can't beat it for the investment! Filled very quickly with park pumps..do not advise using hand pump! Was easily deflated for storage. Seems sturdy enough but you're going to get a little bit wet getting in & out. My husband enjoyed a relaxing lounge while I struggled with the paddles..lol..because he sat at the rear of the boat which offers minimal back support. I suggest putting the heaviest person at the front. We sat facing one another and were both quite comfortable in terms of space. We could've handled another small passenger but that would've made for an awkward journey & we wouldn't have enjoyed it very much.I suggest a 2 person limit..perhaps 1 adult and 2 small children.I intend to purchase another set of oars as the oars seem too small to maneuver the boat without a lot of work. Certainly the more weight, the more difficult to maneuver this boat successfully. All in all, I found this to be an excellent bargain & well worth the price! We used it on the lake at a state park & after doing the math we realized a couple of trips out on the water & we were already saving money over rental price & the use of park pumps & fairly easy parking make it all the nicer. I'd be comfortable taking it on the lake anytime and the river, but no way would I suggest ocean use!We even used it to make an impromptu rescue when my son & his friend managed to over turn their canoe with quick & uneven weight distribution! We tied the canoe to the side & the boys..in life jackets..hung onto sides into the shallows. By days end we had several curious people inquiring about the boat which we heartily recommend.Advise caution around stumps, fishing lures & sharp rocks, but this is definitely rugged enough for the price. Have fun & enjoy it!

I purchased the Intex Challenger for our kids to use when we go camping at the lake... figured it'd be more fun than a plain raft. This thing is great! We've used it on four trips so far, with no leaks (though the boat does come with several patches just in case). The included pump is marvelous in that it fills the boat with air on each up -AND- down stroke. This cuts the inflation time in half. The instruction booklet also includes a paper guide to insure that you don't over-inflate the boat. This, I guess, would stretch out the material and cause it to weaken. Just line up the guide to the two marks on the boat to show when it's inflated as it should be.The weakest links are the oars and oarlocks.Don't expect to use this like an actual rowboat. I think if you really got crankin' on the oars, you could tear tear the lock from the boat's surface. We do a more canoe maneuver and paddle on each side from a more upright position without using the oarlocks. There is also an included grab-rope that goes around the entire boat... helpful for the kids to hang onto when floating nearby.Size-wise, it's perfect for two kids (or even one average-sized adult and two kids -- see pic), and folds-up into a small enough shape that we keep it in a canvas bag for ease of travel. It's also super-easy to de-flate... the upper chambers use a quick release system where you just open the valve and the air comes pouring out. Don't worry -- this can't happen by accident when you're on the water!)I think as long as it's taken care of with some common sense -- not dragged over rocks, sticks or rough surfaces, we're mindful of sharp sticks just below the surface of the water, and let we let it fully dry before it's put it away, etc -- it should last us for many more trips.

I had my doubts that a $32 "two man" raft would be sufficient for my son and I, both adults, and durable enough to trust very far from the dock. I think I was expecting more of a swimming pool toy. I was surprised and impressed, which is not easily done. This is not cheaply made, it is quite durable it seems and well constructed. I have some back and knee issues and sitting in the same position too long gets painful sometimes. However, sitting in the front, the rower..., the air chambers provided a nice lumbar support and was actually quite comfortable. I sat there fishing for about 11 hours straight and didn't have any problems. We went miles from the dock and back stayed dry and comfortable. We had a large tackle box (smaller would have been better, it sat up so high it interfered with rowing a bit, but that was my fault), one of them keep cool bags to hold some drinks and snacks in, a minnow bucket tied to the side, a fish basket tied to the side, a net, and 5 poles. It wasn't no 18' pontoon boat, but we had no problems at all. I am shocked in what I received for $32 bucks. The pump makes blowing it up fairly quick and easy, and deflates fast too, we even put it back in the original box to store.

In recent years, hurricanes have been increasing in intensity in the south and eastern U.S. As I live in a flood zone just 5 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, And within a half mile from a waterway that feeds into the ocean, I bought this boat expressly as insurance against severe flash flooding. A lot of people have been rescued in boats like these.Although I havent needed to employ it yet, it is a comfort to know that it is available should the need arise. We tested the boat in our pool, and it held 500 lbs with no problems. Its not easy getting in to it, but is is stable once you are in. I do not like the moveable seats. I would have prefered permanent seats.I am of retirement age and it took me just 30 minutes to pump the boat with air. Deflating and storing the boat is very easy. Assembly is merely attaching a rope around the boat and snapping the oar halves together. It seems well constructed with heavy duty material. I recommend this as cheap insurance for anyone living in a flood zone.

I don't know how it will do on water, seems well made. No matter it looks quite nice in my garage for now! I really hope to get to go rafting in "nice" regular waters, fingers crossed! I didn't give it a 5 star because if you had to blow it up in a hurry, you'd be sunk (no pun intended) if you have to do it alone! The pump is supposed to be fast...uhhhh nope and you inflate in 3 different sequences (floor, middle then outer). Then, I couldn't get one of the things to twist off and broke off a button top on one segment, but it's okay, just glued it back on for looks. Really, I thought I would never get that thing blown up, but I did it, finally! LOL. Everything else was ez, peze, great instructions!I even sat in it, the pups weren't crazy about it, but what do they know? If I ever need to raft out, I will keep it blown up (for safety) with all the flooding we have been getting around us lately. I learned how to do a square knot too!

We ordered 2 of these for a Saturday local river excursion and although they are by no means made of hardcore boating grade material, they were durable enough to float down a river with no problem and are definitely made stronger than floaties or inner tubes. Inflating was a piece of cake with the included pump. The oars suck but for the price, whatever. True story - one of us wasn't paying attention and got swept half a mile down river by the current, hitting a lot of sharp / jagged rocks, tree branches and debris along the way. No injuries thankfully! Surprisingly the Intex Challenger 2 came out fine with no damage whatsoever and it continued to hold air with no problems for the rest of the day.I think the max allowable weight per inflatable boat is around 400lbs (350lbs + allowance for gear - see online manual/specs for exact weight recommendation) We did one combination totalling about 350 lbs and another 400 lbs and were fine.

This boat is a ton of fun. It is easy to inflate with the pump provided. The assembly is a breeze. We have used the boat twice to go out on the lake here and it is still going strong.Pros:-Easy set-up-big enough for me (6'0" tall) and my wife (5'4)-easy take down when done-a lot of fun-Pretty thick feeling plastic material. Much thicker than say a pool toy. It feels like one of the pull behinds you attach to boats.Cons:-its super slow, maybe cause the paddles are so short. I feel like a kayak paddle would work better and get more speed up.-Some of the dye from the blue has rubbed off onto us when we use the boatOverall, we really like it. For $30, it is a great boat.Any drawbacks it has are because of the price range it is in, and its definitily worth every penny. (though I do wish there was a way to attach a water proof pouch or something to it for our belongings)

I bought this for the kids to play aroun it while on holiday. It handled both sea, harbour and river easily. It is a sturdy boat for the price. It flexes over the waves and doesn't remain rigid, but you wouldn't expect it to. It handled 4 young teenagers and their exuberance with ease. The base inside the boat is more substantial than I have seen before and it has proved to be bombproof in spite of the youthful zeal of my children and their friends. The oars are a different matter, dont get me wrong, they are solid enough. This boat is about 9 foot long, the oars scarcely meet the water and are a good 3 foot too short. They are fine as paddles, but next to useless as oars.In spite of the boat having 2 sets of rowlocks, there is only 1 set of "oars" which is insufficient to move the boat against the current in a river. It really needs 7 foot or 2m oars.

Because you are not going to want to get off the lake. This was purchased for my birthday, and so far I've been out on it twice. I've spent probably 11 hours on it haha. This was a great purchase and gift. I rode along with my significant other, I'm 5'5 and he is 6'1 and about 335lbs together. We had enough room for us, not a lot for extra things though but we did bring a backpack along with some things. It is sturdy enough to rest our legs over the side and lay back a little for a sun nap. Instead of one person rowing, we found it easier to each take a oar and row on each side. A great value for the fun we've had, lots of people were commenting about wanting to get a similar one.I would recommend and will purchase from them again in the future when I want to upgrade in size!

This dinghy is a lot of fun out on the water, comfortably held two 20 somethings and a couple of bags. Would recommend buying one over hiring for the price, is very durable, was bought last summer and is still going strong. It's quite hard work to inflate it with the pump provided but we used an electric pump hooked up to the car and was up in no time. The outer rope allows you tie it up if you find a jetty or an island to explore without your boat drifting away. The oars are lightweight and have oar holes and locks so no fear of losing them overboard. Also has front and rear tow eyes. Can be a pain to get back in the box once deflated but anyone with camping/outdoor experience is used to that with tents and sleeping bags etc.it does go in eventually though.

The first time I used the boat it was like a leave in the wind, wherever the wind wanted me to go I went and couldn't do much about it. I have done a lot of sailing and made a set of retractable leeboards and that made all the difference in the world. You have to paddle it like a kayak but that allows you to see where you're going which is better than hoping you aren't going to run into something. Where I fish and boat there are a lot of blackberry vines on the shore and running into them with an inflatable can ruin a person's day. By making an adapter for the center of the oars, you can use them as a paddle or remove the adapter and use them as oars. I hope to have the plans for building both on my website [...]within a week.

I bought this hoping I could stuff it in a backpack & take it on hikes to high mtn lakes. I only had a chance to use it once before weather turned cold but it was great! My friend and I pumped it up jumped in & paddled around this alpine lake all afternoon. The only problem is that the boat doesn't really go straight so we laughed most of the time as we kept struggling to go in a straight line. I do wonder if aftermarket oars (longer oars) might help? Anyway it's meant to be a play boat & for that purpose it was fine. Size wise, I'm a relatively small person, my friend is heavyset. We fit in there but there was no room to spare which made rowing a bit of a challenge.2 kids or 1 adult would be ideal for this size of raft.
