I went from a first generation Intel Core i7-920 to this eight generation Intel Core i5-8600 and the difference is like night and day. I use my PC for software development, not gaming, but am very pleased with how fast it runs. I used to have constant slowdowns and pauses, though I'm not sure if that was caused by the HDD or the CPU or a combo of the two, but now that I'm using this new CPU along with a 1TB SSD there is no slowdown anywhere, on any program. I have a three monitor setup without a dedicated video card so I'm sure the CPU is having to handle much of the GPU work, and for software I use various versions Visual Studio along with image editing software (and to a lesser extent video editing software),font editing software, and many other miscellaneous other development tools. At idle the CPU seems to hover around 36-40 degrees Celcius and when working it can get into the high 50s, low 60s. Because I bought the 8600 version and not the 8600K version which is meant for overclocking, mine came with a stock CPU heatsink and fan with pre-applied thermal paste. The heatsink is fairly small and the fan points straight up which blows the air away from the CPU and toward the case's side panel. I used this briefly but quickly got annoyed by the sound of the fan spinning up faster whenever the temperature got into the 40s so I purchased a larger 3rd party heatsink that has heatpipes and a fan that's aimed toward the back of the PC case where the ventilation holes are. I also bought a graphite thermal pad so I wouldn't have to deal with thermal paste. This combo didn't seem to reduce the CPU temperature at all but it did make the fan much quieter, and that was the whole point.Whatever you are using your PC for I don't think you'll be disappointed with the CPU but if the noise of a fan constantly increasing and decreasing speed would bother you then you'll certainly want to purchase a better CPU cooler. If you found my review helpful please let me know by hitting that button below otherwise please leave me a comment letting me know what I can do to improve. Intel New Coffee Lake i5 8600k 6 core unlocked CPU requires a z370 motherboard and 6+power phase Board if you want good overclock. With CPUs coming out every year you might see a better and cheaper CPU before next year so you might need to buy a new CPU & motherboard when you upgrade. Hence I dont recommend spending a lot on motherboard unless you upgrade after 3 years or more.Overclocking: Greatly depends on your sample. My previous 8600k did 4.7GHz @ 1.31v 90c where as this one does 5GHz @ 1.31v 85cGaming Performance: From stock to overclock speed the performance gain isnt that noticeable unless you got 3000MHz or higher speed ram and also GTX 1080 or above for 100FPS plus on 1080p.If you got a lesser GPU or slower ram you can save money by opting for i3 8350k or i5 8400.Productivity: Acceptable performance when overclocked however a 8700k might be better choice as more core/threads helps.Power consumption: My i5 8600k CPU stock total system pull 110 Watts cine bench load 40 watts only idle. When overclocked 5 GHz at 1.31v 85c the cine-bench load went upto 200 Watts from wall ! I found my 24/7 sweet spot power/performance 4.6GHz @ 1.17v 65c & 45 watts idle 140 watts cine-bench load.Summery: 8600k and 8700k both priced high for the performance you get. I paid £230 for oem sample. These are the fastest unlocked intel CPUs now however the performance gain from a sky lake isnt that noticeable. However upgrade from sandy or ivy or even older generation definitely worth it. Overall I am happy with my processor. I hope my short review will help you to decide your purchase. Thank you.

Great CPU overall, six cores with an all core boost clock of 3.8 GHz makes it an amazing chip for more affordable gaming even with a more high end graphics card. I have it paired with a GTX 1070 for max. settings, 75Hz gaming at 1080p and this CPU handles it very well, reaching basically 100% GPU usage in most games (other than GTA V). The only problem so far is that in certain games, such as The Witcher 3, there is a fair bit of stuttering, although I'm almost certain that is down to the fact that I'm running a single 8GB stick of DDR4 memory, which I plan to add another stick to very soon to run in dual channel mode to reduce the CPU usage and stuttering as well as increase my FPS.The only other minor problem that I have had is with the stock cooler that Intel supplies, the problem that I have with it isn't with performance or noise, but with aesthetics, in my opinion it just doesn't look very nice in a windowed case which is why I replaced it with a Hyper 212X from Cooler Master, not only making my system look a lot nicer, but also dropping thermals whilst gaming by about 10C (roughly 65 to 55C). other than these two easily remedied problems that weren't even caused by the CPU itself, it is almost perfect and once I have upgraded to dual channel memory I think it will be even better delivering a smooth gaming experience even when paired with a GPU such as the GTX 1070.

Bought this processor to upgrade my partner's frankly ancient gaming rig.I found installing the processor a cinch, especially after watching a couple of demonstration videos on YouTube first. The processor has a couple of notches in it which align to the processor slot on the motherboard perfectly. Just make sure you touch a radiator or some such to discharge any static before you handle it!Lift the arm on the motherboard to raise the processor socket assembly, drop the processor in, and then bring the arm back down. A little plastic cover pops off as the assembky clicks into place over the processor. The performance of this processor is great and more than adequate for gaming when paired with a decent graphics card.I installed a mini GTX 1050Ti and have found the set up for more than ample for most gaming needs. You can expect to play most games at medium to high settings depending on the demand of the game engine.Overall very, very happy with this purchase and have found its performance excellent so far. Please Note: This is for the processor ONLY, there is no stock cooler bundled with it. I bought a Coolermaster CPU cooler for about £30 which is virtually silent.

Fast and stable. That's not a political comment! Was considering a Ryzen 1300+, but opted for this instead in the end as it was priced a little cheaper and all the benchmarks I've seen (even with the AMD overclocked) saw it run on a par or faster than the AMD.I had to get a z370 board, but there was an offer on Gigabyte z370-D3 for only about £15 more than the ASRock I was looking at and so far the gigabyte board paring has worked well. I figured I'm getting a better featured board anyway with the ability to expand in the future (over clocking a future processor/memory if I should require). I know that AMD though are going to support their AM platform until 2020,so maybe when I upgrade I'll need a new board anyway if I don't opt for a second hand chip when this intel socket/platform has been superseded.I hadn't built a computer for about 14 years, so just wanted it to work with the least hassle. Seems rock solid so far.

The age of the budget mid-range PCs is here!We now have sub £100 Intel quad cores, capable of running high setting 1080p gaming without any issues. It's a shame that the H300 series motherboards took so long to release but once they become readily available you could have a nice cpu/mobo combo for about £160-180. Fantastic!Don't hesitate to grab one of these for any build looking to game at 1080p.The i3-8100 will drive most single graphics card.Price-wise, you'd want to pair this with anything up to and including the RX580/GTX1060 but make sure to grab at least a i5 8400 if you want to push for a GTX1070 graphics card combo. You could argue that the Ryzen 3 counterpart is also a good deal but when it comes to gaming, intel has always been a winner for me.Big thumbs up for me.

I bought mine last year upgrading from Ivybridge I5 3570kSo this was a big jump in performanceEven though I had my I5 3570k overclocked to 4.7ghzI found it lacked the performance for the newer games yes it's still a capable processor but the I5 8600kWas the choice I made because of the 6 cores 6 threads and I've had this overclocked stable at 4.8ghz some have had it higher but without doing extreme watercooling that's the max I got out of mine butFor the price and performance for gaming it was a must for meI'm no fan boy but I've always had intel so because I was spending alot of money I didn't want to regret my decisionsSo intel it was and never looked back

Though I bought this CPU from another site while the stocks were low and the prices on this site from other retailers were massively inflated, I feel that it is great value for the money. It plays a lot of the games at a decent FPS along with my GTX 1050Ti, and it will last me for a couple of years. When my little brother wants to build a PC I would recommend this to him too, as long as the prices aren't too high. For anyone else looking for a midrange CPU, don't overlook this one. Depending on the tasks you're doing feel free to compare this to a Ryzen 5 2600, both pricing and performance and get whatever suits your pocket.

After having an old i3-590 for so long, I decided to finally make the jump to a bigger and better processor- and with all the reviews this thing got, I can firmly say that it does not disappoint whatsoever. Installation proved a little tricky to figure out, but it wasn't really an inherent issue with the product itself, more the motherboard. Upon getting it up and running, the performance of my PC knows no limits, it even turned my GPU into a bottleneck, which amazes me. All in all, this thing is absolutely top quality and very affordable all the same. I'd absolutely recommend it for anyone wanting to make a jump.

Intel BX80684I78700K 8th Gen Core i7-8700K Processor Excellent processor, great for gaming, it does not run as warm as my other processors (FX-8350) that ran at 72-75 degrees while gaming on CSGO/PUBG, when running these games on the 8700k paired with a 1080ti @ 2Ghz i can run CSGO at 400+ FPS and PUBG at a constant 144 FPS, it seems to be V SYNC locked so i cant confirm any higher, this is on ULTRA Settings, i have it paired with an Asetek 570LX Extreme Liquid cooler and i don't go above 50 Degrees while its under load.Feel free to ask questions and i'll do my best to answer

This i3 CPU is basically better than the gen's prior i5 and for roughly £100 you can't argue.Day-to-day tasks it handles it well, stay's cool and runs quick. For gaming it more than easily handles all games you throw at it, only thing I can say about it is that since more AAA games are very slowly starting to utilize more than 4-cores, this 4-core CPU may lose it's longevity quicker than most CPU's prior to it. Don't get me wrong you'll definitely be able to still use this CPU for the next 3 years and it work fine, but you may find it's newer brothers vastly out-perform it.

This is a great chip !!!...superb value for money ...runs graphics too ..and a decent clock speed....I've run it in both 8th and 9th generation motherboards without an issue ....the boards it ran .... gigabyte s2h ...msi z390 ....rog hero Maximus wifi z390 ....plus I think i got an h370 going too ...a great chip !!! However from the advertisement I'd ensure you get the right lga pin numbers...Amazon ( or seller ) slapped bottom ...poor advertising... big print says lga 1151 ...small print says lga 1156 ....which is it ? Great chip deserves better !!!

I have this in my pc. The installation is very easy and would take a couple minutes.*for the question this cpu DOES come with a cooling fan*I never try to overclock as I don’t know how and don’t want to ruin my stuff but the cpu does continuously run at around 50%-70% playing games such as gta5 on good settings, but never have problems with crashing and never have bios problems.100% recommend to anyone. Maybe go for a newer gen i5 but you don’t need i7 or i9 in my opinion unless you are going to overclock or using a rig.

Performs as expected, works great on my Gigabyte H370n motherboard, handles everything I've thrown at it so far, BUT THE FAN IS SO LOUD. I don't know if I got a defective product in that aspect, but this fan gets annoyingly loud even when idling. Every time I open a web browser - whhhIIIIIRRRRRR. Every time I run a simulation in MATLAB - WHIIIRRRRRRRRR. My GPU fan is quiet, my power supply fan is quiet (almost never runs anyway), even the lame fan that came with my chassis is quiet. But the Intel fan is LOUD.

This is a really great budget CPU even in 2019. Pared with a decent graphics card, you'll be running triple A titles on high at 60 frames or more. It's 6 core, so it'll hold up fine with a few programs running, but might struggle with large rendering tasks etc due to its relatively low clock speed. Runs super cool, ive paired mine with a Noctua low profile cooler and ive never broken 65*.If you're looking at a console killer or a semi budget build, this is a good place to look with intel
