I've been building gaming pc's for myself for the last 10 years and have always bought from another retailer ( OverclockersUK ) and have always used gigabyte and AMD cpu's with either Nvidia or AMD graphics cards. For some reason unknown I didn't think of checking, until recently that is, to see if Amazon sold pc components. Turns out they do and in most cases Amazon are cheaper than OverclockersUK and with prime delivery invariably what I order is delivered next day unlike OcUK. Also, you can see lots of reviews and make an informed decision about what you are buying, so all round , Amazon is the place to buy from for me, brilliant customer service .Sorry for the pre-waffle there. Ok,my 6 month old gigabyte mobo, AMD FX-8150 and NVidia gtx 780 titan coupled with 16gb of 1333mhz memory and a Samsung 840 pro ssd are not playing games smoothly, to the point where I just wanted to chuck the pc out of the bedroom window. Every game was suffering from some kind of stutter and this was driving me crazy. I had to make a decision, go down the console route, tried that but the kit was too expensive and so are the games, I'm talking ps4 and xboxone here by the way. Both were returned, thank you Amazon for great customer service regarding returns. I decided to build myself a new gaming rig but this time using Intel.I did lots of research and read loads of reviews on cpu's, AMD vs Intel, Nvidia vs AMD, different kinds of motherboard and memory manufacturer and eventually I came up with the following spec to be fitted into my existing Coolermaster 690 case :Intel Core i5 4670k cpuMSI Z87 G43 gaming moboGeil 2133mhz 8gb ramCooler master hyper 212 evo cpu coolerAlready have the Samsung 840 pro SSD 256gb and Akasa venom 750w psu.All the old kit came out of the case and the new installed with no problems. The above parts came to just under £300 with next day prime delivery. I am one happy bunny !I didn't have to reinstall windows ( windows 7 ultimate 64 bit ) luckily, just entered the bios of the MSI Z87 and set the memory to 2133mhz ( for some reason it was showing at 1600mhz by default ), used OCGENIE to overclock the cpu, it did automatically in a second and overclocked it from the stock 3.40mhz to a very stable 4.0mhz. With the Cooler Master evo hyper 212 cpu air cooler configured as a push pull with two fans connected to the giant cooling fin temps are excellent, runs much cooler than my old AMD set up, idles at around 36 degs and after an hour of intense gaming goes up to around the 48 - 50 degs mark. I have a bitfenix fan controller connected and set to auto and the fans can hardly be heard even when playing BF4 on ultra.Anyway, my point being and I apologise for taking so long to get to the point, buy this chip, it is phenominal, every single game I have installed on my SSD plays as smooth as silk, not a single stutter. I have Battlefield 4, COD Ghosts, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Tomb Raider 2013 and Batman Arkham Origins installed and they all play on ultra without a hitch. I also watch DVD's on my pc and these play as smooth as anything too. Using WinRAR to extract files and more than one at a time this chip handles it with no problems and quickly too. I don't have bad word to say about this and I think I can safely say I am a convert from the AMD stable. One more thing, in windows WEI my set up with this cpu scored 7.8 out of 7.9, everything was 7.9 except the intel which scored 7.8 so all in all a very impressive little cpu.BUY ONE you wont regret it !!

This review is for people considering this CPU for their gaming PC.The i5-4670k is an amazing piece of hardware. I've been trying to build a gaming PC to handle my favourite games, but it's taken me three attempts to get it right.I decided to purchase this, along with the Gigabyte Z97X-SLI motherboard, and it's a great combo. My previous CPU was an AMD FX-8320, which was incapable of keeping BF4 running stable, and would constantly fluctuate between 22 and 45FPS - a very annoying experience. With this i5, I have managed to not only maintain a minimum frame rate above 60FPS, but I have also increased some of the settings, to the point where I am almost on full ultra.I have achieved this with a Gigabyte HD7870 OC graphics card, which is the same GPU I used with the FX-8320.My performance on PlanetSide 2 also increased significantly, and Watch Dogs, which would turn into a slideshow when driving, became completely playable. Then I decided to overclock. I didn't change any voltages, and I am using a Noctua NH-D14 to keep my CPU temperatures under control. I went up to 4GHz before I started to have throttling problems due to high temperatures - but an i5-4670k at 4GHz is an absolute beast.I can post benchmarks all day, but here's the bottom line: If you want to play high end games, like Battlefield 4, PlanetSide 2, Watch Dogs and Arma, and you want them to run well, consistently, you REQUIRE an Intel CPU.I've had a couple of AMD CPUs now, and for the price, they aren't bad, but - none of them can compete with an i5 in gaming performance. If you want the smoothest gaming experience possible, get a good i5, such as this.NOTES on i5 vs i7: Comparing this to the i7-4770k, if you are looking for gaming performance, the i7 will give you no advantage. Hyperthreading sometimes gives an extra 1FPS, and sometimes it gives you 1 less. Hyperthreading doesn't really work in games, and I can't recommend an i7 for gaming when this i5 will give you equal performance. If you are looking for more than gaming performance, then hyperthreading can help you out. In gaming, hyperthreading does nothing - and that is the only real difference between i5 and i7.NOTES ON OVERCLOCKING: The 'k' at the end of the model number means that the CPU is 'unlocked'. This means it can be overclocked. So the i5-4670 cannot be overclocked, but the i5-4670k can. Considering the minimal price difference, go for this unlocked version in case you decide to overclock. In summary - The best high end gaming CPU for the money = i5-4670k. No CPU will give you better gaming performance. You can buy an i7, but you will see no benefit in GAMING.

One thing is certain, If you are building a new system for "Gaming", this CPU is your choice. With a good mid high end motherboard i.e. a Z87 ASRock Extreme 4, MSI's G45 Gaming or Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H or Biostar Hi-Fi Z87X 3D you can easily use its Turbo tech ramping the 3.4 stock speed to 3.8 through the easy UEFI Bios, also you can safely over clock this CPU with Z87 Mobo's I mentioned. This CPU is strong enough that even AMD's FX 6300 and the FX 8350 can't beat it! And it has lower Heat produced while on heavy load (with a good cpu cooler) even when overclocking when compared to AMD CPU's. Personally I recommend to you a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (120mm) for CPU cooling, trust me it does a great job for cpu cooling even at over clocking speed under heavy load, and the fact that it is cheaper compared to other brands, this is a must to get if you are in a budget!. With the 212 Evo I am using on my recently build PC, at idle the CPU is at 31 degrees Celsius and on load it doesnt go more than 49 degrees Celsius, and these are its normal operating speed both on idle and with load. Also this CPU has a higher maximum Operating temperature and there is no risk of thermal throttling unlike its AMD counter parts. The main reason I suggest this new Gen CPU is that with a good Z87 Mobo paired with this CPU, later on the line when you have money you can use, you can always easily switchout the CPU for an i7-4770K which uses the same 1150 socket. This is a good precaution as say for example at the moment not much game totally uses the 4 cores of such processors, but if later on the line where games will start to utilize 4 cores/hyper threading etc. then you can easily go for a 4770k if you feel the 4670k is not strong enough for you. But for me and for alot of other people which are in for gaming PC's, This CPU is more than enough for games!

I spent quite a while trying to decide between this and the i7-4770k for my new gaming computer. Ultimately I decided to save some money by taking the i5-4760k and I'm very happy with my decision. Coupled with the GTX770 (2Gb model by Palit http://www.amazon.co.uk/Palit-GeForce-Jetstream-Graphics-Express/dp/B00D3ZYDLQ/) it plays every game I've tried on maximum/ultra settings without a problem.Even new 2014 games like Titanfall easily exceed the 60fps required for truely smooth gameplay and the slowest framerate I've seen so far was about 40fps on Crysis 3 when I turned absolutely every setting I could find up to the maximum possible. So if you're making a gaming pc then really you don't need to get anything better than this. There are no games available yet that this can't run easily with a decent graphics card. That said, I would definitely encourage you to look at the new Devil's Canyon range of chips which have just been released and can be bought at other retailers online now (June 2014). For the uninitiated these are a 'refreshed' update of the current Haswell chip range (which includes this i5-4670k). The refreshed version of the i5-4760k will be the Devil's Canyon i5-4690k. (The higher spec i7-4770 becomes the new Devil's Canyon i7-4790k by the way)The new Devil's Canyon versions have slightly higher chip speeds and are better at heat management so the chips are less likely to overheat under stress or due to overclocking. The new Devil's Canyon chips are of course more expensive, but are slightly more future proofed for future games and applications. But as I said above, if you're trying to make a gaming computer on a limited budget then you can't go wrong with the i5-4760k. It can confidently handle any game out there right now! :)

This is quite simply an absolutely incredible piece of silicon. It's ridiculously powerful. I'm running it on an H81 motherboard with the stock intel doughnut cooler... What is this madness you ask- an unlocked processor for a non-overclocking motherboard?! Well, for some reason when I bought it from amazon this was only £155, making it a better value per unit performance than the other i5s even though I don't intend to overclock it. I don't see any need to overclock it, frankly. My sample scores 8214.6 on the PassMark CPU benchmarking software, relative to the average score for this processor of 7600 CPU marks. Talk about winning the silicon lottery!Runs rings around AMD processors in terms of power consumption- performance per watt is way above AMD, meaning you can get a lower-wattage PSU and save not only on PC cost but on power bills too.My system consists of the i5-4670k, alongside a Crucial M4 128 GB SSD, 8 GB (2x 4) of 1600 MHz Patriot DDR3, MSI H81M-E33, MSI HD 7850 2GB OC and Windows 8.1, on a Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 450 W PSU. Boots into Windows stupidly fast and games are beautiful and rapid. Oh, and in my small Micro-ATX case (Sharkoon MA-M1000) with the stock cooler (and a non-modular PSU!) and only a 140mm front intake and 120mm rear exhaust, it idles at 25 C and peaks at 50 C under stress. Wat. Oh and it's all pretty much silent too.Price fluctuates wildly for this on here- wait until it hits a low, and then pull the trigger. Definitely worth buying over the Ivy Bridge (3570k) if you are building a new PC. It's often cheaper (!!) and is just faster and better.

This was a massive upgrade from my AMD system but reading reviews they would have you thinking these CPU are all singing and dancing 4.5ghz as standard overclockers. That is far from the fact! most of these CPU will max out at 4.2ghz at 1.25v, I have a noctua NH-D14 with temps around 60c on full aida64 stress test. The voltage 'apparently' for air is max 1.25v, anymore and you are degrading the chip considerably more. I have now seen more and more threads about this silicon lottery. This is not really a fault as standard it is 3.4ghz and turbo 3.8ghz (.?) i am at 4.2ghz but the voltage jumps are massive.I am pretty sure before Overclock at 3.8ghz my cpu voltage was 1.17 and now i need 1.25v for a stable 4.2ghz.I pushed 4.3ghz but only managed 30 min aida64 and that was at 1.254v not stable. I needed 1.3v just to get into windows at 4.4ghz just to give you an idea. They is also the heat issue but for myself my CPU was around 60c, i have never seen 70- 80 - 90c BUT from reading forums i think this huge heat is from the 4770k models.OVERALL for £150 it was a great bargain, I am so happy i did not pay full whack of £190 as i would of probably gone the 3570k route. I have gained over 100 frames per second in Guild wars 2 everthing maxed, yes! 100 fps increase from my old amd system.I have -1 star because of the overclockability of the cpu. I do not belive you will hit 4.5ghz on stock cooler as the voltage and heat would be to much. The guy who said 4.5ghz on stock fan is probably a troll and buying a new CPU very soon.

Great performance increase coming from a first gen i7 920 @ stock. I have noticed a significant increase in my minimum fps whilst gaming, but where this CPU really shines is the MMO scene. CPU intensive games like Guild Wars 2 and Rift play smoothly at maximum settings in most scenarios. I saw a much greater increase in performance in these games from my CPU upgrade rather than a recent graphics card upgrade (GTX 285 to GTX 660 Ti). So if you like playing MMO's, this is most definitely the best CPU to get.Whilst it might be tempting to 'future proof' your PC with an i7 for its Hyper-threading technology, I would recommend saving the money and investing it elsewhere since hyper-threading doesn't show any real tangible gains in terms of gaming performance.Of course if you plan to use your PC for photo/video editing then an i7 is most definitely a worthy buy.I also feel this CPU is a better buy than AMD's direct competitor the 8350. Whilst the 8350 may possess 8 cores, it cannot utilise them to the same extent as the i5 and is consequently slower than the i5 even in (the few) games which utilise all of its cores. In a way this can be contrasted with the smartphone fight between Apple and Samsung, whilst Samsung uses quad core chips in their phones, Apple's dual core chip is still faster (or around the same speed) due to it's superior efficiency.

I bought this CPU to replace my i5-2400, and it has been a good upgrade for some games, particularly Battlefield, however don't expect a whole transformation! That particularly goes if you are coming from an Ivy Bridge CPU - I wouldn't recommend upgrading because of the high cost for a new mobo and CPU with little performance gains.I have yet to overclock this CPU, however it should go without saying that if that is what you plan to do them make sure you get a quality aftermarket cooler. I'm personally going to upgrade to a closed loop water cooling system, most likely the H100i, however they can be more expensive than the good air coolers. If you're building a new system for gaming, then you can't go far wrong with this. I wouldn't spend the extra for an i7 because the only gains you will from there is if you are into video editing where the Hyperthreading is used (games don't really utilise it properly...yet). If you're considering going for an AMD build because it's got more cores and more stock GHz, DON'T! Unless you're trying to save money, in which case AMD would be a solid choice, just choosing them for more cores is wrong because this CPU pretty much outperforms all of AMD's CPU's. A lot of them have a hard time beating the i3 range, so don't be fooled by the higher cores!

What a fantastic CPU, it beats my old AMD FX 6300 in minimum framerate so a lot less jitters and general pc speed has seemingly increased too. I wont detail about max FPS since my display is mostly vsynced to 60 to avoid tearing. However keeping to that 60 sweet spot is a lot easier now.First time I've seen a chip without guide PINS (mostly an AMD user up until now), so make sure you get the orientation right with the triangles before even taking it out of the box. Don't want to mess around holding it for too long, just get that bad boy right in there and clamp it down.Idles at 18C and probably goes to 35 or so during heavy gaming, very cool with a Zalman tower fan. Threads are not really as important for gaming, except in a few cases, so this is an excellent alternative if you were looking at the 4770k and didn't want to max out your budget. If you do a lot of 3d/graphics rendering, audio processing or you run a server or VM then get the 4770k, otherwise get this beast. You won't be disappointed.

When I first ordered this I was pleased it came next day and after I had got all my other components I built my PC. However, The CPU was a dud. It did not work what so ever. The only problem was it took me a while to definitely know this after testing all my components and troubleshooting. I got a replacement from Amazon (Who have the best customer service of any, in my opinion). PC works perfect. Plays all games in their highest settings with more than playable FPS.My Rig -I5 4670kR9 270xCX600mG skill dual 8Gb RamKingston 120gb ssdWC 1TB HDDAlso runs AVID and Cyberlink Powercam well, however have not yet used them to their full.Best CPU, better than any similar AMD.If you are considering getting a new processor and are not sure between Intel and AMD, trust me for the extra price it might not seem like much but it is definitely worth it.I only wish I could have afforded the i7 haswell chip.

I went with one of the marketplaces who sold this £25 cheaper, so I decided to get this instead of the 4670 one even though I don't need to overclock. Turned up the next day though expected to turn up 2 weeks later. I am not interested in overclocking as I am a programmer who hasn't even had issues on a single core 3.4Ghz Pentium, yeh that's how much in need of a upgrade. I had other comps over the years but they died and I was reduced to a 2005 machineThis along with other new stuff has been great, so far it has been one day and stock cooler hasn't really gone past 38, though I will likely get a better cooler as I don't really trust this stock one.It doesn't make noise as badly as people thought though, even on 100%, but again I was usually a jet engine before which ran things very fast, so this is now super fast, so fast that I feel like im slowing down but also quiet too.anyway 5*

After having an Intel core i5 4440S 2.8GHz I really needed to do an upgrade in order to keep up the pace with my AMD R9 290X. Thanks to members of TomsHardware the 4670k was an excellent choice for an upgrade offering a good performance boost for a great price, in addition I also noticed a big Frames Per Second increase on the game "Thief" with the lowest frames per second going from 33.6 to 56.9 and average increasing from 85.7 to 91. In addition I wanted to upgrade my CPU to ensure it could run Watch Dogs when it comes out, I was told that this CPU really is a close to the 4770k as you can get, in addition you also have the ability to overclock the 4670k to the stock speeds of the 4770k if required.Overhaul an excellent choice for a socket 1150 motherboard, great performance and good temperatures even with the stock cooler idling at 23 - 27 Degrees Celsius.

This is a great CPU and better for being £20 cheaper (at the time I bought it in December 2013) compared to competitors.Lots of features to play about with in the UEFI BIOS and runs pretty cool.Ive not run benchmarks to compare as every system will be built differently due to components used and its just not necessary unless you have the time.It was a shame it didn't get delivered on the day it was supposed to be, and when an attempt to deliver to my work place failed, I had to wait till late Monday morning for the product which really messed up my carefully planned weekend with building my new computer over that weekend. All in all Amazon were pretty good and contacted me after I raised a ticket with them and helped me get the item delivered quickly. They even did a follow up to ask if I had received it.5 stars for this occasion.

I paired this with the ASUS motherboard Asus H87M-PRO Motherboard (Intel H87, DDR3, Socket 1150, PCI Express 3.0) and they are a dream team. I've been building systems for over 15 years, but had a few years break after swapping for laptops. I thought they were enough power-wise, and in a way they were, but if you need to crunch numbers desktop is way cheaper.I'm currently undervolting from 1.200 to 1.170 volts. Increased the maximum accepted TDP so it will never throttle down and clocked it to 4400 mhz.So undervolting and a 1 ghz overclock with stock cooler. Drop-dead-amazing.Ok, so Haswells maybe current-limited, poorly suited for overvolting etc. but these are only useful if you want a 300 watt oven.If you get a good one like me, you can undervolt, do amazing stuff and not brake the bank with utility bills.5 stars.

ContentsThis processor comes with a stock fan (with thermal paste already on it) which is completely fine if you are not planning to overclock the processor. This processor does have integrated graphics on board as well, so there is little need to buy a graphics card if you will not be gaming.UseWith that said, if you are planning to overclock, this product is geared up and unlocked for it, though you would need a different cpu fan so that it does not over heat. If you are planning on some intense gaming or dealing with "big data" then I recommend this card. With this card (and in conjunction with my graphics card) I managed to play with highest possible settings for modern games whilst maintaining a high FPS.ConsThis processor does deserve a 5/5,however, my specific cpu came with some damage on the back of it.
