My dad bought this game in the 80s and it's the one game from my childhood that stands out as causing more fun and bad tempted havoc than any other so when I saw that it had been re-issued I had to get a copy to share the fun with my own family. The basic idea is to use the railway network as a game grid. You draw six random "souvenir" cards which are the places you have to visit before returning to London. You travel around the network getting to places and once you have done them all you go home, 1st back to base is the winner. If that was all there was it'd be pretty boring but there are two extra factors, signals and cards. You can place two signals each and a signal requires a throw of a six the break and cards are drawn each time you change networks (FGW to GNER etc) and can either be great "you are minister of transport, rearrange all the signals" to awful "ask each of your fellow players where you should be sent to". These two factors totally change the game and make it extremely strategic. You can't let on where you are off to so that people won't signal it to death and if you annoy the rest of the players too much you can find yourself snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and being sent to Stornoway behind 4 signals when you where on the home leg. It's this element which provides the fun, unexpected victory, grumpy stormings off etc, all wonderful family fun.

A fold out map of Britain. Little model trains. Two packs of cards - who would have thought these ingredients could make for such a fun game. There's no money in this game, just a random selection of British & Irish attractions to visit and the 1920s railway network to navigate on the way round. So far, so ho-hum - what makes this game great is the Hazard Cards, which have passed into family legend - "Enticed to fish: Go to Grimsby" and "Bored with modern architecture: Visit Brighton" are just two of them.Other reviewers have mentioned loving this game in its original incarnation. Me too. I bought this modern, slightly more luxurious edition for my nephew, who loved playing it 20 years ago.To watch his fiancée, from Belfast, struggle to locate the attractions was a hoot.As I said, this is great family fun, and perfect for detaching children from their electronic devices.

I have played this board game with a friend since I was a child, but my friend's version (I think an edition from the 1970's) had a much larger board. This made the map easier to read, and the pieces could fit better on the stations. The game itself is my very favourite ever. It's easy for people of all ages to learn, but it is also fun for people of all ages to play. It is a different game every time, and it is just as fun, whether played by two players, four, or even the maximum of seven. The artwork on this newer edition is great, and I've always enjoyed reading all the information about different places of interest across England, Scotland and Ireland.I just wish the board wasn't so small and cramped.

This is an excellent wee game. My sons have really enjoyed it, and it's a great educational game, helping them learn various locations around Britain. It's fun to play, makes the kids think about a strategy, whether to make that run to John O'Groats or Stornoway, or knock off the South England locations first. Add in the amusement factor of the hazard cards, making people join you for you birthday, or sending them to Waterford, has made this a really entertaining game in our house.Only niggle is that the board is a bit cramped, difficult when there are various trains in the same space/area. Bigger board or smaller pieces might have helped things a bit.

I LOVED playing this game as a kid so was excited to see it available to buy on Amazon. I have bought this for my nieces for Christmas and can't wait to give it them. ..I only hope they enjoy it as much as me and their mum used to!!! It is a really entertaining game and one of those rate ones which manages to hold the interest of different age groups of children. It's fast moving enough that there's not chance to get fed up, and, despite the picture on the front of box, isn't at all 'trainspotter-y'. It is educational too, but stealthily so, so that it won't make the kids turn their noses up at it.Oh, delivery was fast by the way.

I had played this at Christmas, having never heard of it before. My partner's family, however, have it as an annual thing... so I bought it for his birthday, and he is gonna LOVE it.But please please please get another courier. They only deliver M-F (I work) will not arrange alternative delvery address and it took 2 days of phone calls to get them to eventually leave it with a neighbour (and they are not easily reached). A quick search on google and it seems most customers hate the courier service and rate it the worst in britain.

We had the original version of the game and loved it. Great way to get to know Great Britain. The only trouble with this one is that they made the board smaller to fit in the standard box and so it gets a bit crowded getting around the board. They should make the pieces you move around smaller. We gave it to our grandchildren who live in the USA so they get to know Britain.

Ideal for a German junior to learn about the geography of Britain, to hear from Grandad the correct pronunciation of f.e. "Durham", to read the Great fun for the kids, easily addicted to the game. I note that some of the rules have been improved as have the Hazard cards compared to a former version.

Every year we buy a new board game for the family at Christmas, This year we went with one we had not seen or heard of and to be honest you can not go wrong with this, really is fun specially if you have younger children that do not know the rail network the way it used to be.

We had hours of fun with this game over Christmas. I never realised that my adult sons could be so malicious! Seriously, it is a good game, we had good fun and I'm looking forward to playing it over and over again. It has been the best of all of our recent "Christmas" games.

A game that I played as a child in the 70's that I got for a friends kid. It's idea for the child obsessed with trains and proved still to be completely playable for an eight year old.Well presented, very playable game that's still relevant today as it was 40 years ago

Love this game. Played it a lot when I was a kid but it got thrown away before a house move. Nice to get the updated version. All my family love it and it is suitable for all ages. My 8 year old nephew likes playing it and so does my 80 year old father. Worth the money.

I played this game as a kid, so got it for the family. We have played it a couple of times, I have an 8- and 11-year old, they really enjoyed ganging up on me, but didn't like it when I reciprocated - a few good natured (sort of) arguments.. Still great fun

A brilliant game to play with family and friends. You certainly find out who is most competitive and who you've recently upset. The race to the finish brings out the best or even the worst in most players as they compete to be first to return to London.

Good game, slightly random but if you embrace the randomness you can have a lot of fun. My kids (6 and 8) like it and maybe they'll even learn where some British towns are too. The cards aren't as well made as I'd like, hard to shuffle and tear easily.
