This is the very first Nintendo game I ever purchased for my daughter when she was 5. This game has proved to be a big success for her needs, and has kept her and her younger sister entertained, it can be played by a 3 year old, and is still enjoyed from time to time by my eldest even though she is now nearly 7.What does the game involve?Like the previous game there are a number of different activites for children to access via the touch screen. These are low on need to read, and are accessed via the menu screen which is a picture of a house. There is a painting and colouring activity which are very intuitive, the touch pen being used to add colours and then draw or paint.A nice touch is that the picture you have "coloured" is animated at the end - so a door opens or fountain sprays water. The other 16 activities are quite varied, from the musical (bells and xylophone) to spot the difference, dot to dots and grow a flower by planting and watering a seed with your virtual watering can. The games range for the completely unchallenging such as shadow matching to the more difficult such as cooking where good fine motor skills are needed to cut up a carrot with your virtual knife or do dot-to-dot.. My daughters have particularly enjoyed the colouring and also "doll's house" where you can choose the decor and furniture for a mini house. There is one game that has flopped which is "rock paper scissors" which just hasn't grabbed my daughters as interesting but might appeal to an older child. There is a hoop-la which is is also quite hard to play but the rest of the games seem to be have been fully enjoyed.Music and graphics:The graphics are very child friendly, and not too over-girlie in my opinion, though this game is meant to be girl-friendly it is not too pinktastic, which is refreshing. The music is a little annoying for a parent. Everything is played to classical music, tunes which I recognise but can't put a name to, to my shame. There is no mention of what the music is in the manual either, I couldn't work out if they had used tinny classical music in order to appear "educational" or as they didn't have to pay rights to it, in any case it doesn't add to the game really and also seems rather out of balance with the rare "you did it" actual voice sounds, my daughters have been happy to play with the music right down most of the time thankfully. What's good?I am pleased with the playability of the game, for my daughter it is spot on challenge wise, and she can indeed do it without asking for help every 2 minutes. The games seem to be enjoyable and they have done a good job making the game appeal to a child. What could be improved? The child has a "friend" to play with throughout the game, for no good reason I can think of, also it would be nice if you could print off your creations, I don't know enough about the DS platform to know if this is technically possible but it is a little frustrating to a child used to some degree to being able to click and print. You can't actually save any game either, which is fine in a not-too challenging kind of way, but doesn't allow for any kind of progress.Overall?I would say that this game is good for a bit of fun for a child. I don't think in truth that this game has any educational value at all bar pen control, but then I don't think it really has that aim anyway. It has been a good first game to buy and my daughters have enjoyed it without being too addicted so I would imagine it will be quite useful to fill a 10 mins in the doctor's waiting room or for some downtime for a while to come. A good first Nintendo game!

I have 2 daughters aged 30 months old, and 6 years old respectively. I originally bought this for the 30 month old, but realised she needed help with being taught what to do in each game. After I taught her what to do in each game, she can now manage to play with the games all by herself without my input. She likes the really easy games like the one where you plant a seed and water the flowers to watch them grow... but she's also starting to get the hang of the games she initially found a bit difficult to get right - like the cooking game where you must "chop" food up in certain sizes and shapes. There are also musical games, drawing and colouring game, games which test hand-and-eye coordination. All in all, she has been absolutely glued to this game since day one, and plays with it for at least an hour a day on her own.Her older sister who's 6 years old (in Year One) has also found this game very enjoyable despite it being obviously quite easy for her to get the hang of. I've found her playing the game for hours on end whenever the younger one's not playing it. I've had a go at some of the games myself and have to admit, I actually like some of them, like the cooking game and the drawing game. This game doesn't really teach numbers, alphabets, or academic stuff. However, it is really good for hand-eye-coordination training for the little ones. They also find it really fun to be able to do things like playing fairground games like the Crane which picks up toys, or throwing rings so that they land around a prize object, or designing their own dolls house, making music, etc. This game is just delightful and fun. This must be one of the best buys I've ever made in terms of DS games for my daughters. Another good buy for little girls is the Peppa Pig DS game, if they're into Peppa Pig cartoons. Its really true to the original TV programme.

I already had bought the original game for my son (when he was 4), who loved it. So when I saw a girlie updated version with lots of new games, I just had to get it for my daugther (4). Both games are a brilliant introduction to gaming. Alot of games require reading, but these don't! They contain lots of simple, fun games and activities that let them get used to using the controls etc. I even find my son (who is now 7) occasionally "helping" his sister.I would definatly recommend this game. Excellent value for money.

My little girl is 5 years old and this game was the perfect game to get her started on her Nintendo DS - she absolutely loved it. It is nice and simple and easy to follow, and she got better and better at each little level and felt a real sense of achievment. I don't think she will play it for years and years (or even months!) as she may outgrow it soon and move on to more exciting games - but if you are looking for a simple starter game for a young child this is the perfect one!

I bought this for my 4 year old daughter for our holiday to France thinking it would keep her amused on the long journey - she loved it. It's really easy for her to understand and play all the games, there is no reading invoved and the games are simple and do-able. It's a bit repetitive and there is nothing to unlock if they complete one level of a game but that doesn't seem to bother her. It certainly did the trick and I would recommend this game for 3 to 5 year olds.

I bought this when I got my DSi as I thought my daughter (3 then 4 now) would like it and boy was I right. 8 months down and she still asks to play it, not every day but often enough. As she gets older she gets more and more capable of working out the games and the strategies they entail. Well worth the money.

what a great game for young children, my daughter is 5years old and can do this one on her own, lots of mini games so shes dose'nt get board too quickly and very easy. there are too many games around that are supposed to be 3+ and require children to read, but this ones really easy for very young children.

Bought for our daughter who is 4 and she loves it! Lots of different areas to explore and some bits are incredibly girly which she loves. She happily goes off to play the game by herself then shows us what she has done. Would certainly recommend it!

I bought this for my Granddaughter's 4th Birthday and she has not stopped playing it.I think she said that a few were too hard but she can grow into those. Her Sister has "I did it Mum 1" and they both like that one as well.A good buy.

This is an excellent first game for the DS. It is easy enough for a young child to use without help (no reading required) but interesting enough to keep them entertained. One of the few games that really is suitable for 3+.
