I love this little Quadcopter. I received the SD version of the X4 as a Christmas gift from my girlfriend's niece. That was a great things that she thought I might enjoy this, because I can tell you that I've never had any real interest in RC flying, and there's no way that I would have gotten one of these on my own. I'm in my late forties, but I've got to tell you that playing with this "toy" makes me feel like a kid. I decided to get a second X$, as I wanted to record better video footage. Yes, the camera is better on this model that I am reviewing here (I got mine from the battery superstore). I understand that some people got sent the regular SD cam model,so make sure when you receive yours that it says HD Camera on the package (shouldn't be a problem). I believe that the regular SD camera model is about $60 at the time of me writing this, and the HD model is abouy $80, both with Prime shipping. So, the difference is about $20, and you have to decide for yourself whether or not you think the better camera is worth $20. For me, it was. It is still not a super camera, but I'd say for the price the HD camera it's more than decent. The Hubson X4 models are all supposed to fly the same, so if the camera is no big deal to you, just get the basic model without a cam, which is about $45 at the time I write this.OK, so here's a few recommendations, and I hope that it will save the people who read this some time and frustration:1) Get some spare batteries right away, as the X4 comes only with one. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to charge, and you don't want to be flying for 5 minutes, then charge for 45 minutes, fly again and so on. Other reviews say that flying time on one battery is about 5-7 minutes, which sounds about right. I ordered the 380 mAh Tenergy 5 pack from the Battery Superstore, which was about $20 with Prime shipping. There are other higher capacity batteries available, but I didn't get them as they take longer to ship and had very mixed reviews. The 5 pack from Tenergy arrived in 2 days and seem very similar to the stock battery. Make sure you read the safety instructions for handling LiPo batteries in the X4 manual which also explain how to properly charge them, store them, etc,, to get the best possible use out of them.2) The Hubsan X4 comes with a single USB charger (which you can plug into a USB outlet on your computer or your phone charger), and so can only charge one battery at a time. I got the the 4 in one ThinkMax charger for about $7 and it seems a bit flimsy like the reviews say, but it works. I plan on getting a better charger later, for now this one works.3) If you are a beginner, order some replacement rotor blades right away. If you're anything like me, you will bump into things a lot the first few days while you're learning to fly, and the propellor blades break. You don't want to be stuck without extras, and they're cheap.I ordered a 5-set pack from Imake for $10, and I believe it's shipped from China. It's ok, because I already had a few extra sets from a crash pack I purchased (see below). Also, now that I'm getting better at flying, I now go several days before having to replace a rotor blade. Oh, and here's a quick tip; the placement of the rotors blades matter. If you position a few of them next to each other, you see that they come in two shapes with different slants (clockwise or anti-clockwise). I'm not an expert on this, but one expert on Youtube said that the front left rotor blade should match the rear right blade, and the front right blade should match the rear left blade (basically a diagonal match).4) Consider whether a so called "crash pack" is worth it. I purchased one for approximately $20, as a friend recommended it to me. After making the purchase, I realized that it's probably not worth it, as the basic model of Hubsan X4 itself is only about $35. Also changing the body on the X4 requires some soldering. I'm not the handiest type, and it seems like tinkering with screws, soldering and what have simply isn't worth it, I'd rather replace the unit. Of course the cam version is slightly more in replacement cost, but still, for me the crash pack doesn't make sense, and it didn't even include the LED lights it was supposed to. Still, if you can use a soldering iron and you're pretty handy, the crash pack might make sense. Now, let's move onto flying the thing, which is the fun part! I have no experience with RC flying, so I have nothing to compare to. To me, it was difficult on the first few tries. First, I made sure to calibrate the X4, as per the instruction manual. If your unit doesn't have an instruction manual, google it, or look it up on Youtube. Basically, you hold the left controller down to the left and wiggle the right one back and forth until the X4 blinks. Repeat this procedure whenever you change the battery on the X4. I followed the suggestions from another Amazon reviewer to start out standing behind the X4 and face the same direction. On the X4, the front has the blue LED lights and the back has the red lights. I learned that it's easier to bring the X4 up (using the left control stick) to clear it off the ground by a few feet. I focused on making it hover, then fly straight forward, and then straight backward. In the beginning, I would also try to turn it facing the side or toward me, but I found it impossible to control then....I would flip out and go off in the wrong direction or crash. I've been practicing, and am now working on turning it to the left, then go sideways in all directions from there. This might sound very basic to someone with more experience, but for me I had to break it down and master one direction at a time. It's amazing how quickly you can learn this thing; I guess it's a bit like riding the proverbial bicycle. Now, when I fly facing the directions I've mastered, it's automatic, and I don't have to think about what I'm doing, I just think about where I want the X4 to go. I guess muscle memory takes over, if you can get through the learning curve.Oh, and another tip, for beginners, especially older ones like me, I strongly recommend practicing indoor first, you don't need a lot of space. Yes, you might end up bumping into furniture and lose some propeller blades, but at least the X4 will not fly off and land on a neighbor's roof or in a tree! The first time I flew mine outside on the sidewalk, the X4 crashed in the street while a car passed by. The car missed it, but I learned to practice more inside first. Realizing how quickly I'm learning to navigate, it won't be long before I feel more confident to fly it outside. The best place to practice is in an open outdoor space, such as a park or a big lawn. I tried this for the first time today, and found it easier to learn moving the X4 around with a bit more room and without fear of losing control of it. Well, this is it from me for now, please don't forget to like my review if you found it helpful. Have fun!

I uploaded this video but the quality is greatly reduced when you upload it on Amazon reviews. You cannot upload the HD quality of this quadcopter camera, but you get to see just how high this quadcopter can fly! See update 2 below. This is my second quadcopter. Great seller arrived in a few days {so i didn't have to wait a month for a delivery from China} My first Quadcopter was the same as this Hubsan Quadcopter but black with green and black blades. My first Hubson Quadcopter was tough to learn to fly. I kept crashing it into walls and loosing blades. I ended up purchasing the blade guard that helped me greatly with these quadcopters and learned the trims on the transmiter. . Now I fly like a pro.I learned to fly the copter which will hover beautiful with little drift. The video this Hubsan 107c 2MP camera takes is great. I recently flew this baby up 300ft over huge trees (all you could see was a spec in the sky) The video it took was amazing. Be careful, I lost my first Hubsan in the woods by my home. I was cocky, flew it up 400 feet and a gust of wind took it and I could not react in time! Don't get me wrong. This little baby can fly in 20 mph wind but in expert mode only. Now about the camera, one of my earlier Helicopters had a .3 mp camera. There is a extreme different between the 2MP camera on this baby compared to the .3mp camera which is found on many copters. BTW, I'm selling my Helicopters on Ebay and only going quadcopter! Love this little unit! So much fun to operate indoors or outdoors!Tip 1 : When first learning to fly: Before turning the camera on you should fly the quadcopter up a little to see if it drifts, if it does adjust the trims on the transmitter. The Copter should fly up and you should be able to hover in the air with only a slight drift. Then you are ready to lower to the floor/ground turn on the camera and enjoy. Don't forget to shut the camera off before cutting off the power.Tip 2 : Don't tuck in the battery and the Quadcopter leads like the directions say. Instead, let the leads hang out as a loop and let them hang down. I followed the directions and tucked them in behind the battery and after a while the leads broke and I had to soder in new leads on my first Quadcopter.UPDATE: I have purchased three batteries so I can slip them in and keep operating it. If you don't get the blade guard, then purchase extra blades, you will need them in case of crashes.UPDATE 2: just added a quick video of a high flight in 17mph winds. Just to give a quick example. You will notice the bird flying by. The trees around my house are huge and this baby flys right above them. Keep in mind as stated in my review above, the video after uploaded to Amazon is no longer HD or even near the quality of the original. This video is to just show you just how far and how high this quadcopter can fly! I would of flown it higher but I was a little worried about the wind. To See the quality of this baby go to youtube and check out the videos.UPDATE NOV 2014:Loved the Hubson x4 but I have since upgraded to the SYMA X5c which is the best quad available for the price! Just keeping you informed.

Once in awhile you manage to get your hands on something that exceeds your expectations, and this is one such product. I live in SE Asia, so ordering toy quality products is always dicey, since it is too expensive to return them if quality control fails. In the case of the Hubsan, it flew like a champ right out of the box.I am impressed with the build quality (it has taken some knocks and is still going strong) that has held up for 20+ flights after the first three weeks. It does flips and rolls as advertised--just be sure you are up high enough! (also, be sure the props are on securely, as they tend to fly off in this maneuvers, resulting it in dropping like a stone)The video quality is good, and surprisingly stable for something without any sort of gimbal. Performance is excellent. Just be sure to trim it properly, and it will zoom, even in the beginner mode, and I have solid radio contact up to the point where height and wind make me nervous. All in all, the perfect starter quad for aerial photography.A few caveats as, after all, this is a toy and not a 1,000 dollar drone.-I haven't fully figured out starting the camera. Sometimes the recording light does not come on, and I have to unplug and then retrim.-Once in a while I have either unplugged without stopping the video, or pulled out the card with the power on, resulting in corrupted video.-Panning is also a bit jerky. Early videos had such abrupt switches in orientation that it was difficult to watch. I also tried fiddling with the yaw control when in the air to pan, but it is a bit of an "all or nothing" proposition: either it doesn't move, or it pans very quickly. Still, it is a very impressive product. I throw it into a Tupperware container and take it on holidays for great aerial shots.A few suggestions: 1. buy extra batteries and get a wall charger. 2. Definitely get the prop guard 3. Given the flight times, a 2GB card will be sufficient, and a class 4 does as well as a class 10.This product represents an incredible value and a high fun quotient.

I've always wanted to fly a remote controlled aircraft and I tried with a helicopter after watching one being flown around a well known toy story. The shop attendant made it look so easy to fly needless to say it wasn't and I soon got fed up with trying after it kept spinning off and crashing. So a while on I saw a news report about micro copters/drones and they explained how easy they and cheap they are to fly. So after a lot of research online everyone said the Hubsan x4 h107 range was one of the best for a beginner. I choose the new h107c version with the 2mp camera (as most people said they .30mp camera was rubbish). So after setting up the copter following the instructions on how to calibrate the controller.I took it for my first flight and I must say it was so much easier to control even as a beginner it doesn't take long to get the hang of the controls. I have Brought a crash kit as well just in case but haven't needed it yet. There are plenty of videos online to help showing basic set up, how to fly, repairs and even useful modifications. I really recommend this as a fantastic starter for the price. I would stick to the recommended age 14+ as even at the age of 38 I stupidly picked it up while I had the controller in my hand. Next thing I knew the I hit the throttle by mistake and the blades spun up. Didn't do any serious harm but damn that really started and left a couple on small cuts

If you are thinking about buying a drone some day, this is an inexpensive way to learn how to fly. For the price you are paying, this quadcopter is an amazing little package. Very stable thanks to the on-board gyro and accelerometers. Easy to fly indoors, and enough power to fly outdoors in calm to light winds. Flight time is about 7 minutes, and spare batteries are very inexpensive. Range is about 100 meters (300+ feet), however it does become very difficult to keep your orientation when it gets out more than about 50 meters due to its tiny size. It does have LEDs mounted on the four motor housings to help you see its attitude. Unfortunately these LEDs are facing upwards instead of down and out toward the operator's line of sight. You can still see blue and red light reflected off of the four rotors at close range. Therefore it might help to purchase and install the white colored rotors to enhance the effect of the front (blue) and rear (red) LEDs. It takes decent 720p HD video with its built in 2MP camera, recorded to a micro-SD card on-board the quadcopter (memory card not included). This is a good entry level flying machine, with a robust strength to weight ratio. That means most crashes do not cause damage beyond the price of a new rotor blade set. It come with a rotor guard that press-fit installs onto the for motors. This is a must for indoor flying, and helpful outdoors as well.

This is the first quadcopter I've ever bought/flown.THE GOOD:Absolute blast to fly. Very stable, plenty of power and responsive to commands. The flight time on the provided battery exceeds 5 mins (at least with camera disabled), but I would still recommend getting a couple of spare batteries because you won't want to stop flying this thing! The controller is also very good for the price and has. good range. The x4 body is extremely resilient to crashes (and boy have I had a few!). You will need to invest in some spare propellers though, as they will get chewed up pretty quickly, particularly if you fly indoors.THE BAD:The motors on this quad wear out really quickly.I've had to replace 2 already and I've only gone through about 15 battery charges. That they run out isn't really the issue, because replacements are cheap, and for the price I wasn't expecting fancy long-lasting brushless motors. What is annoying is that you need to de-solder the old motors from the control board and solder on the new ones in order to replace them, and those joins are TINY!! Have you never heard of plugs!? Aside from the inconvenience, there's only so many times you can re-solder the same joint.A small gripe for an otherwise fantastic product.

Great little quadrotor that takes a bit of getting used to in terms of sensitivity, and tricky on a windy day, but otherwise a fun bit of kit. I was recently on holiday and took it along to video around the area where we were staying (a large open space with trees), You really do need a lot of space to get full advantage and this device can get high very quickly which does add to the excitement. Make sure there aren't any streams or rivers nearby or they will inevitably be crashed into, as this one was after some "loss of situational awareness". Ah well.Only 4* because the device is a little let down by the video. The lens on the camera seems to have the focus about 1 ft away and everything beyond that, though recognisable, is a bit blurred which seems to defeat the object of having a drone with a video. There are also some issues with the video jumping or missing frames so it seems the video transfer is faster than the card can receive it (and it is a class 10, so it should be up to the job)I would advise getting spare batteries and a crash kit with spare blades - useful for the learning to fly phase where you will hit walls, furniture, etc and damage or bend the blades and this will affect how it flies.

I had several Syma X1 with a 808 camera but they kept breaking in unfixable ways. I finally bought up to the Hubsan X4. The camera quality is a little lower quality, but definitely HD and looks really good. The blades are out of the picture. It records the faintest audio which contains the buzzing blades most times. I was also unsure about the size, but it's actually really cool having something so portable. I'll take this more places. It's noisy, but hardly noticeable when you get it high.At first I didn't like how touchy it was. But now that I'm used to it I feel it flies much better and is easier to navigate. It definitely handles light wind better. I'd say that range is about 200 feet away.At that distance it becomes difficult to gauge speed and direction anyway.I tried the protection cover (included) but it adds noticeable weight that affects agility and battery life. I'd opt for more blades instead.Look for instructions on calibrating the gyro. You need to do that every time you connect a battery. Test stability by hovering a foot above the ground.Definitely by some 500mha batteries. They fit perfectly in the compartment of the 107C and last a lot longer than the stock 380mha.

Practiced flying the Hubsan X4 (H107L) until I could fly proficiently indoors and then comfortably outdoors (low wind conditions) and could fly both away and towards me. When flying outdoors, I found it best to fly late afternoon and especially in the evening under lower light conditions so I could better see the front and rear LEDs.I then started flying the H107C and though a little bit heavier, I am able to get 5 to 6 minutes with with the 380 mah battery (get spares). Handling is not much different than the H107L. Camera quality is good under decent sunlight conditions. I take it up 30 to 50 feet and rotate slowly and get some very good panoramic views. But be reasonable and don't expect GOPRO video quality.I used an 8GB microdrive and it works well.Don't be fooled, this is a capable and stable quadcopter but you must be patient and learn to fly it indoors proficiently before going outside. I spent 2 to 3 solid hours of flying indoors before graduating to the outdoors. Be wary, if you let it get too high and lose copter orientation be prepared to cut power immediately so it drops where you can see it; otherwise, say bye bye!Happy flying, you won't be disappointed.

I've flown this quadcopter in the house numerous times and have recently started taking it out to a park as well (even with a slight breeze). So far I've had a great time with it; outside is particularly fun since you can fly high and far away without worrying about hitting walls or furniture. It certainly doesn't fly itself but on the whole it is very straightforward and forgiving. Practice will definitely make perfect. The HD camera takes good video's; I'm planning to run them through an image-stabilization program. The battery takes quite a long time to charge (you wouldn't want to do it in the field while waiting for it) so I bought an additional 5-pack for like $18 (cheapers are available)plus a good charger and plan to just pre-charge them all in advance before flying. I also bought the "crash kit" that provides extra props and motors and body-shell, etc., but so far I haven't needed any of it; I have popped a prop a couple of times but was always able to find it and just slip it back on. For the price I think it has been very entertaining and worthwhile.

OK, I own this and the 107D and have well over 100 flights on both. Here's my suggestion. If you want good video and a toy that is super amazing fun to fly and extremely durable, you can't go wrong here. These copters are very easy to fly after just a little practice. Just last night I was flying in the dark, in high winds and lost control. The copter fell at least 150 ft to the road, and besides some paint chips had absolutely no damage. The screen of the (other model) 107D (the FPV model) is fun to use, but if you want to save $100. - go for this one. It's great practice for your bigger machines and won't cost so much if you lose it. FPV flying with the small screen of the 107D is fun,but the screen size makes it very difficult. The screen for me is just a convenience in viewing that lets you see it right away, but downloading this 107C's micro SD card to a computer to view the video is no big deal.

I totally did it backwards. I bought a DJI Phantom FC40 first with no flying experience/skills. It was fun, but terrifying because I was constantly thinking I was going to kiss ~$500 goodbye. To beef up my skills, I got one of these. It has turned out to be even more fun than the DJI. With the prop guard, it's very easy to fly indoors--something you really can't do with the Phantom. Battery life is only ~5 minutes, but that 5 minutes provides plenty of fun and stress relief. My X4 has done one outdoor tour of duty, and let's just say it's not built for high winds and a crappy pilot. Thank goodness my girlfriend has awesome eyesight.Anyway, I would totally recommend it if you're looking for cheap fun.BTW, the video is nothing special, so if that's what you're after, get a Phantom.

This is my third quad, I own a larger (550) quad (cam/soon to be autonomous), a Hubsan H107L and this one.I bought this mainly off how impressed I was with the H107L and had a co-worker that let me test fly his 107C,and was impressed with how much more responsive it was in expert mode. This is because the motors are larger (to help with the lift needed for the camera) Quad snaps back out of flips and rolls much quicker and is a blast to fly!Onboard 2MP camera is quite good for what it is,video tends to be a bit jumpy, but that is mainly because of the small size of the quad, and being on a fixed point mount. Still very good video for the camera.7min video eats about 900MB.Very happy with this quad and Hubsan!

I bought this as a Valentine's gift for my boyfriend and he was extremely surprised because it's what he's been raving about for the past few months. Anyway, I didn't know that it came with a blade protector so I bought a separate one (has not arrived yet). I hear that the protector that it comes with weighs the copter down more which results in lower battery performance. So far everything has worked out great with the quadcopter. My only con I could find is that it's quite noisy. We have a friend with one and his is a lot quieter but that also might be because his is smaller too. His could also flip sideways and backwards too - I'm guessing this guy doesn't but it's okay.

Love this thing. For the price the camera does a great job. This thing takes off if your not careful. Don't do what I did and panic and do not. I repeat do not fly this even in a little bit of wind. I was flying and a gust got under it and it took off. I tried to recover but once it gets away from u it is hard to see which way is forward. And with out that the controls become had to maneuver. Back is forward left is right. Etc. And it takes off like a bat outa @@@@@@ Last time I saw it was really high and outa site. Very sad that I lost it because I loved this thing. Will I get another. Absolutely. If you buy get more batteries and the rotor protector.
