The HP Omen 15-DC is a mid-spec 15.6-inch Laptop with an aggressive gaming inspired design. The specification of this Laptop I am reviewing has an Intel i7-9750H 6 Core 9th Generation Coffee Lake CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, Nvidia RTX 2060 Dedicated Graphics Card, 1080p IPS 144hz display and a 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. The laptop comes with has a compact 200w power brick, but it uses an old-style AC Power connecter rather than USB-C. In terms of I/O, you get 3x USB 3.0 ports, 1x Thunderbolt port, SD Card reader, 1x Gigabit Ethernet, 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort ++, 1x Kensington Lock port and separate Microphone/Headphone 3.5mm jack ports. The top shell of the laptop features a fusion of Carbon Fibre andbrushed aluminium textures finished with metallic red accents and a large HP Omen Logo proudly presented in the centre. The back and bottom sides of the laptop have fighter jet inspired fan outlets, along with a portion of the I/O ports on the back. The front and sides are a little more muted, housing with the rest of the I/O and charging port. Whilst the design of this laptop is gamer orientated with the red and black theme, its done in a tasteful way and gives the laptop its own distinct identity. Opening the laptop up, you are greeted with a clean minimalistic design for the screen, keyboard and trackpad with little in the way to distract you when gaming/working.The laptop is primarily built with plastic, however the keyboard deck is made out of aluminium which adds rigidity to the laptop and helps keep the palm rests cool whilst gaming and typing. Due to the plastic construction, there is more flex when opening the lid than compared to laptops that use metal unibody designs, but the plastic feels high quality and pretty durable, which gives confidence in the hinge design and overall durability. The build quality is good overall, but due to the angular designs and sharp corners you may find the laptop is uncomfortable to hold or move around regularly. It’s also quite a heavy which isn’t a problem for me, weighing in at just under 2.5kg.Turning the laptop on for the first time and using it, I found the dual fans to be quite loud during any operation. I adjusted the settings in Windows & the HP Omen Command Centre to the lowest performance modes, but that made the fans louder surprisingly. The fan speed profiles make high levels of adjustment making the general usage experience somewhat annoying. This is great for performance, but not so for comfort when the system is idle. One very major criticism I have about this laptop is the keyboard layout. HP seems to be using a strange hybrid between a US and UK styled keyboard layout. The keyboard layout uses the United States design with UK symbols printed on them. This leads to a huge discrepancy with the keys not being where you’d expect them to be if you are not used to this layout. I found myself constantly missing the ‘Enter’ key due to the US keyboard layout, as my muscle memory is tuned to a UK keyboard layout. Doing some research online, HP do this with a lot of their laptops, which I think is a ludicrous design decision and a potential deal breaker to a lot of people. If you can get over the US keyboard layout, then the overall typing experience on this keyboard is decent, however for me personally I do feel that the key caps themselves are a tad too small. I find myself accidentally miss-pressing a key quite often because there is a lot of space between the individual keys. I would have preferred the key cap size to be slightly larger, as this would greatly improve typing accuracy. In terms of typing noise, this keyboard uses a membrane switch mechanism, so it’s pretty quiet to type on and does not make a lot of noise. The keyboard also has 26 Key Rollover, which means 26 keys can be pressed simultaneously and registered to prevent ghosting which is useful whilst typing and especially whilst gaming. The keyboard has RGB LEG lighting that you can control through the HP Omen Command Centre Software, but the LED lighting it is limited to four individual zones on the keyboard instead of being individually controllable for each key. You can choose from a range of primary colours, and control the brightness of each zone, or simply turn the LED’s off. There are no animation controls either, so you cannot have any transitioning colours or lighting effects with this keyboard lighting system. The 1080p 144 Hz display has a thin bezel and a matte finish that has decent colour reproduction and gets reasonably bright. The 144 Hz refresh rate is enabled by default out of the box, and scrolling around the OS is a buttery smooth experience. Where HP have missed the mark is not including G-Sync technology into the display, meaning the screen cannot dynamically adjust the refresh rate to match the GPU frame output, meaning in games you have to use V-Sync that eats into performance to prevent screen-tearing. You can get away without V-Sync due to the high refresh rate that helps to mask screen-tearing, but you will notice more stuttering in games. The laptop does have a webcam built in at the top of the display, however quality wise is probably one of the worst webcam cameras I have ever seen and you’ll need an external webcam if you plan to use it often. The built-in speakers in this Laptop have supposedly been custom tuned by Bang and Olufsen, however the speakers themselves are nothing mind-blowing compared to other laptops I’ve used. The Speakers fire downwards which not ideal as they are not directed towards you and the sound changes depending on the surface you have the laptop on. The speakers are lacking in bass, and thus they can sound quite thin and airy but they do get decently loud and are more than adequate for use watching videos or playing games. I’d suspect most people will be using a pair of headphones instead. This gaming laptop is using the latest upper mid-spec components, and therefore should be expected to do well in not only gaming but also in creative work and productivity. The i7-9750H CPU uses the 14nm manufacturing process, has 6 cores (12 threads with hyperthreading), a base clock frequency of 2.6 GHz and a turbo boost clock frequency of 4.50 GHz, a 45W TDP (thermal design power) and 12mb of L3 Cache. The Nvidia RTX 2060 uses the 14nm manufacturing process, has 1920 CUDA Cores, a base clock frequency of 960 MHz and a boost clock frequency of 1200 MHz, 6GB of GDDR6 memory and a TDP of 80-90W. The RTX 2060 is the laptop variant of the graphics card, which has the same physical hardware but slightly lower clock speeds for decreased thermal heat and lower power consumption compared to its desktop counterpart. Finally, the laptop has 16GB or DDR4-2666MHz SDRAM (2 x 8GB Dual Channel Memory). In a nutshell, the hardware combination should hit a sweet spot for high refresh rate 1080p gaming. This laptop is using an Intel Wi-Fi 6 compatible radio, which is the latest Wi-Fi standard currently available and futureproofs the laptop to take advantage of the new Wi-Fi 6 technologies as they become more available. The HP Open Command Centre has a QoS (quality of service) feature built in that automatically prioritises gaming traffic to reduce lag in online multi-player games. Before beginning any performance testing, I downloaded and installed all of the latest Windows Updates, HP Software and Drivers using various tools including the Nvidia GeForce Experience program, Intel Driver & Support Assistant & Windows Store. The laptop did not come with any bloatware, but it does include MacAfee’s Anti-Virus software which I promptly uninstalled straight away and enabled the Windows defender instead. I used the HP Omen Command Centre to enable performance mode to ensure everything was set to maximum performance. I also ran some tests on the PCIe Samsung MZVLB512HAJQ-000H1 SSD, which benchmarking on Crystal Disk Mark 64-Bit gave me a sequential read speed of 1549 MB/s and read of 1997 MB/s, which is in-line for NVMe enabled PCIe Drives. To test the laptops gaming performance, I loaded up Destiny 2 that has plenty of graphical settings to push the GPU and CPU. At 1080p with maximum settings, I was getting around framerates of around 100 with spikes up to 144 with V-Sync turned on. The game looks buttery smooth, but a 144 FPS is a little overkill for me. Swapping from 60 FPS to 144 FPS, there is a clear difference in how smooth the game looks, but swapping from 72 FPS to 144 FPS, there is a negligible difference in smoothness. Due to the lack of G-Sync, stutters in the frame rate are very visible that can break the immersion, but for the most part it ran the game well enough without any compromises. Whilst the image quality is great with the reflections, effects and textures that look fantastic, the 1080p screen just cannot showcase that detail in its full glory, and the image shows aliasing (jagged edges) on thin objects and corners even with the maximum anti-aliasing settings enabled. With the laptop’s thermal performance, there is only a little bit of thermal throttling but nothing to cause a big drop in performance. Running Cinebench, the laptop averaged around 2700 to 2800 points which is a great CPU score. The i7 CPU stays around 4.0 GHz when doing light tasks when plugged in for maximum performance, but hovers around 3.25 GHz – 3.5 GHz as all of the cores are being utilised whilst performing heavy operations. The CPU Temp went up to as high as 95 degrees Celsius, but maintained a high clock speed which is great for a laptop. However, unplugging from the power adaptor causes the laptop performance to tank, consequently dropping framerates into the 30’s, even after disabling all battery saving and performance options. It seems the battery cannot provide the full amount of power to keep the CPU and GPU running at maximum performance, so you won’t really be able to do any high refresh gaming without being tethered to a plug socket. The battery life is average for gaming laptops, giving around 4 hours of use performing light tasks, and around 30 minutes – 1 hour of heavy workloads/gaming.Overall, the laptop has a few let downs, but also performs very well with its cooling solution and performance given the price. If you can look past the US Keyboard layout, lack of G-Sync, loud fan noise and Synaptics trackpad drivers, then you have a high-performance gaming machine in a compact form factor encased with a unique gamer design. If you found the photos & this review helpful, please consider clicking on the helpful button below, it helps me out!

I've had various desktop and laptop PCs and macs in my time. Traditionally I've always found that in order to get all the required components into a laptop form factor, you're left compromising performance and paying much more than an equivalent desktop. However if you want a powerful gaming machine and you want it mobile (e.g. you travel around lot), then a gaming "laptop" like this is the only way forward. So to be given the opportunity to try this out was very exciting. Finally, at least on paper, this a gaming laptop, which seem more powerful than my desktop PC I play games on!In the box:-- Laptop- 330W Charger, plus kettle lead plug- Quick start leafletGiven this is a very large and expensive gaming laptop,I'll focus this review more on the performance. In terms of hardware spec, it's pretty dream spec and there is literally nothing I would say needed improving:-- 17.3 inch 1920x1080 display at an amazing 144Hz refresh- Intel Core i9-9880H 8-cores running at 2.3-4.8Ghz- Nivida GeForce RTX2080 Graphic card with 8GB of graphics memory- 32GB DDR4 RAM (way more than you'd need)- 512GB SSD (solid state is essential my eyes these days), with an additional 1TB traditional hard disk- Windows 10 Home - I'd have preferred pro but can't really call this inadequateSize and weight:Dimensions 40.5 x 29.5 x 2.7cm so pretty bigWeighing in at 3.3kg for laptop, you don't want to be walking around too much with this, unless you're trying to keep fit.In addition, don't forget to take the 330W(!!) charger which is 15.0 x 15.0 x 3.9cm and weighing in at 1.3kg. To put that in perspective, it is bigger than an Intel Core i5 NUC (mini PC) and over twice the weight of one!To call this a laptop pushing the boundaries since I doubt anyone would be able to comfortably operate this on their laps due to the combination of crushing weight and high heat output. However, the real jewel in the crown for this laptop is RTX. Basically realtime ray tracing which simulates the reflections and colouring from rays of light in light sources. (Have a quick internet search to see videos.)Gaming:At first I was only getting around 10fps with Quake 2 RTX running using the RTX (Raytracing renderer). Until I realised I'd actually forgotten to switch on the switch on the power supply! At which point everything changed...I was easily over 100fps using the conventional OpenGL renderer, and once switching over to the RTZ renderer, I was still getting over 60fps with an incredible step up in graphics quality.Trying out some of my games including Killing Floor 2, and setting the graphics details to maximum, the machine didn't even break a sweat.Sound:The sound coming out of the B&O speakers produce a very good bass, definitely the best I've heard from a laptop (including 17" gaming laptops from the past)3D Benchmarking:In terms of comparing performance, I decided to run the 3D mark benchmark program running the Time Spy DX12 benchmark on the HP laptop as well as my system with the GTX1060.HP Omen 17 Laptop i9-9880H, 32GB RAM, RTX 2080 8GB, overall score was 9007My desktop gaming PC, Core i5-4690, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 6GB gets trashed with an overall score was 4004My brother's high end desktop PC, Core i7-7700K, GTX 1080Ti get beaten with an overall score of 8686For generic comparison reference, a "4K Gaming PC" gets 6733So a very impressive result indeed.Battery life:Running Quake 2 RTX on battery for about 5-10 minutes lost 10% of the battery. Whilst gaming, don't expect more than an hours use out of it...On the other hand, whilst just browsing the web, it wasn't as bad and I'd guess you might get 3-4 hours out of it if you don't tax the processor or graphics.Value:Compared to a desktop, this is not good value at all, but that's not comparing like for like. Compared to other big brand similar priced laptops, this is a better spec, and arguably good value.Pros:- Amazing performance, certainly absolute top end for a laptop and very high end even if you considered it a desktop.- 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD+1TB and RTX2080 means this laptop should definitely future proof you through at least next 3 years of high end gaming if not more.- Very nice 17" fully HD 1920x1080 display- Built in speakers produce very good soundCons:- It costs a lot of money- Barely portable, made worse by huge power brick- Battery life not great- Fans can get noisy when gaming (though sound through speakers mask it well)In summary:-This is a lot of money for a laptop (£2499 at time of review), but you receive an excellent spec and it's impressive they've managed to fit so much power into a laptop despite it's large size and weight. It'll definitely future proof you for a long time to come.Looking at the competition and other big brand name gaming laptops of similar price bracket, they are of inferior spec, so it does a long way to justify the asking price. So long as you've come to the conclusion you need something (barely) portable, as opposed to a desktop, then I can highly recommend this choice.I will update this review over time if there are any changes.Update Jan 2020: Still going stong, nothing to complain about. Battlefield V runs nicely, but with Raytracing turned on, even this system spec barely managed to keep running smoothly at 1080p, though that's not a criticism of the machine itself, rather the game and the demands of the graphics technology. What is surprising is how I've become much more open to the concept of a portable gaming system. It really does open up a lot more possibilites, and is much more socialable to either see people and play together (in the same room!), or have it in the lounge where other people can crowd around and watch you play.Update April 2020: still going strong and despite progress of technology, there still isn't anything out there yet that really surpasses this for performance. This has also proven it can be a super powerful work from home machine.Update June 2020: Looking online, there's still nothing beating this on spec and price (at time of review) even nine months on. I will check again later in the year once the next generation of graphics cards start appearing. In terms of build quality, no issues which is great after 9 months of regular usage. Fan noise and heat is not noticably worse than when new. No crashes or overheating issues as such, though the laptop is used plugged in pretty much all the time and on a desk (allowing for minor airflow underneath).

The packaging itself is a bit bland and indeed so is the inside of the box and the box housing the power leads. However opening the laptop reveals a black deck made of black plastic, which is meant to imitate the striated portions of the lid. A rather large touchpad resides in the center of the palm rest, while a skinny power button sits in the top-left corner of the deck above the keyboard. Speaking of the keyboard, the keys are black with red accents and sit in a notable recess in the center of the deck.At a touch under 3kg, the Omen 15 is noticeably heavier than the Asus ROG Zephyrus G GA502 (a touch over 2Kg)but weighs the same as the Dell G3 15 (2019)As you can see from my pictures there are an abundance of ports and of all types and of course the power supply itself. Full HDMI and network ports are all there (makes a change from Wi-Fi only)DisplayWatching movies and playing games on the Omen 15 reveals warm, bright pictures. When I watched the 1080p trailer of The Photograph, none of the actors looked washed out or ashy, and detail was clean enough that I could see the fine hairs in Jasmine Cephas Jones' billowing afro. Detail is stark and you're going to love watching movies on this.As for gaming image, when I played Red Dead Redemption 2, the detail was so fine, I could see the individual hairs of the fur lining Arthur's collar. Regarding color, Javier's black, red and white poncho caught my eye with its vibrant color, as did Arthur's deep-blue jacket. This is such a huge improvement on my old Alienware !AudioRemember this comes with Bang & Olufsen and despite its bottom-mounted speakers, the Omen 15 packs a big audio punch. Blow Monkeys filled my bedroom with loud, clear 80's pop and it was a delight! The singers low warbles were clean and the percussion and treble was well defined, at maximum volume the keyboard sounded diffused, which bled into the guitar. If you want more precision, I'd suggest investing in a pair of noise-cancelling headphones.Still, as I played Red Dead Redemption 2, I was impressed by how clear the whipping winds sounded as they seemingly tore across my bedroom. A lone guitar punctuated a man's dying breath. Later, a shot from my revolver rang out, landing with a meaty thud in an enemy's chest.Keyboard and touchpadThe Omen 15's keyboard is a bit mushy, but still provides a comfortable typing experience. And I appreciate having a full number pad. I managed to hit 30 words per minute, which is lower than my usual 45 wpm. Still, the keys are nice and big and well-spaced.Even though the keyboard has backlighting, it is somewhat muted by the red-tinted keys. Still, it was bright enough to see in a darkened room. So easy for placement but not distracting.Gaming, graphics and VRHP outfitted the Omen 15 with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 with 6GB of GDDR6. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I could play Red Dead 2 at a solid frame rate. I rode into town and found myself in a drunken bar fight. I threw a haymaker at 43 frames per second on Ultra settings that landed squarely on my opponent's jaw and put him down for the count. So the graphics for gameplay are a treat as well.If you have an Oculus Rift S or an HTC Vive Cosmos handy, the HP Omen is capable of accommodating a VR headset. So it says .... I have neither so can't comment.PerformanceThanks to a 2.6-GHz Intel Core i7-9750H processor with 16GB SDRAM, the Omen 15 can handle its fair share of work. It had no problem streaming an episode of The Mandalorian while running an additional 25 Google Chrome tabs. The laptop kept plugging along even after I launched Red Dead Redemption 2.Battery lifeGaming laptops aren't known for their battery life, and the Omen 15 isn't going to change that. The laptop lasted just over 3 hours of gaming around 3:10 It fell short of the 3:55 mainstream gaming laptop average. Porbably the only thing that dissappointed ... but i can live with that.Heat : This lappy can get really hot. Probably hotter than any other laptop I've used .... but again the fan and everything seems to cope ... so keep it on a table and don't block the vents and you should be fine.WebcamThe Omen 15's 720p webcam delivers accurate colors, but you can forget about any meaningful detail. It does the job and you won't complain to be fair.SoftwareCortana is ready at start up to oversee you're implementation and that was a very good experience.Other HP-branded software includes JumpStart, which guides you through registering your laptop and setting up Windows update schedules. Then there's PCHardware Diagnostics, which helps identify if the laptop is having any hardware problems, and Privacy Settings, which allows you to tweak how much if any information you share with HP. In addition, you get Support Assistant, which puts you in contact with tech support if you run into an issue.SummaryThe HP Omen 15 is a great midtier gaming laptop. For the money, you get a system that packs a punch on both the gaming and overall performance. If this was helpful then please click the button below.

My review is for HP 15-dc1011na OMEN 15.6 Inch FHD Gaming Laptop with Intel i7-8750H, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB Plus 256 GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Graphics, 8 GB GDDR6 running on Windows 10 Home edition. As soon as I opened the box I couldn't stop appreciating how cool and majestic the laptop looked. Being it a gaming laptop I had prepared myself to lift a heavy machine out of the box. However to my delight the laptop weighs no more than any other gaming laptop. This beautifully crafted machine only weighs 2.5 Kg which means you can definitely carry it in your backpack without breaking your back.As soon as you turn the power button on you can hear the OctaCore RAM firing up and waking the beautiful full HD screen in less than 15 seconds (see my boot up video for proof). The fun only begins from here! Start playing one of your favourite games (I tested Fortnite) and you will see how responsive the graphics card is. NVIDIA is not wrong when they say their GeForce RTX 2070 gives you the 6x faster performance they truly mean it! My 2 and half hour playing session did not lag not even once!!! This is on games like Fortnite that are famous for their PC lag. I understand it could also be that my CPU was only running Fortnite at that time hence both the RAM and CPU enhanced my experience.Apart from testing it for gaming I also ran some overnight modelling simulations for my chemistry course. Where the usual calculations on an average 4GB RAM took 5 hours to complete, on this machine I got the results back within 2 hours. This was an Awesome jackpot for me.Now the battery life; HP claims it gives just over 6 hours of battery life which was almost ten in my case. I used it for about 1 hour of set up, 2 and half hours of gaming and about 95 minutes of FHD movie before I had to connect the charger as the battery was on 10%. It could have just about done it up to 6 hours.I would summarise my 2 days experience (so far) by saying that if you are after a gaming or high performance laptop then don't look any further this is what you need.Pros: Beautifully designed, light weight, super fast high performanceCons: Only one that I could think of'; perhaps HP could make it a little elegant by using less plastic all around to compete with professional and slightly older (academics perhaps who are not necessary looking for a gaming laptop) customers. See below, the battery life is not that great after all.31st March 2019: Ok the battery life is not 5 hours anymore. After installing couple of applications and bringing it to good daily use at home and work the average battery life for me is only just about 3 hours. This means I have to carry the charger in the laptop bag. This adds extra half a kg to the total weight of the machine.

I will start of my review with aesthetics. From an appearance perspective this gaming laptop looks the part in black and red.The main body of the laptop is black, whilst the Omen Logo and name is red.The top of the laptop has an interesting design,4 black cross sectional triangles divided by red markings, which highlight the main Omen logo.I am more of a PS4 gamer than a PC gamer but I have tested this laptop out on 4 games:2 Total War games,Baldur,s Gate enhanced edition and Divinity Original Sin 2.They are older games,so they have hardly tested the boundaries of the laptop, but I have been very pleased with the performance of the games from this pc.The graphics are very nice and the laptopbenefits from a powerful graphics card,so the games look great and as does the images from general internet browsing.Audio/sound is catered for impressively by Bang and Olufsen speakers. It would have been nice if an optical drive had been provided.Given that i had not had a new laptop/pc for a very long time I was shocked that one wasn't provided. This seems to be the norm these days as you will need to open up an account with a provider such as Steam and purchase/download your games from there, instead of inserting optical media. This laptop comes with its own charger, the lead from the laptop to the charger is circa 1.5 metres in length and the laptop charger has it's own detachable power lead/plug,which is a further metre in length. For general internet browsing the battery on the laptop lasts a long time from a full charge. The battery life is a lot less when you are playing a game,I made it about an hour of gaming life, before being prompted to plug in the charger, which is a little disappointing. My old laptop also had an easily accessible laptop battery compartment,so when the time came to replace it it was just a case of unclipping a small lid and inserting a new battery-this is not the case with this Omen gaming laptop,it looks as though I would need to take off the entire back cover to access the battery. The laptop features 3 USB inputs(would have been nice if there was at least one more),audio inputs, memory card input, hdmi port, ethernet port, bluetooth etc. This modern laptop features the Windows 10 Home edition operating system.to be honest i have been using this laptop more as my main utilities laptop, than a gaming laptop,it performs well in both scenarios. In summary,I am very happy with this laptop and it more than caters for what I need it to do.

From the beggining, i had a really bad time with the delivery team, took way to much for the laptop to be delivered. When i got it, the laptop was in a really nice package, well protected and really clean ( as it should be ), and i was really happy for it. The screen at first didn`t seem to big untill i compared it with my gf 15" laptop, and after that i was like " damn, that`s a big display" . Some of you might have a shock with the keyboard, I surely had, because it appears to be to small compared to the hole body, but you get used with it. I haven`t touched the mouse pad yet, so can`t really make a review for that, but from what i`ve used it it`s not that great, that`s why i bought a proffesional mouse. The microphone is really really bad, I am not sure if it`s my laptop that is faulty , but on all my discord calls everibody tells me they can`t hear s**t from me, so unfortunately that is a big down because i had to buy an external microphone. The integrated speakers sounds legit nice, and the audio jack combined with my audio technica headset makes any song sound perfect. Now on the main event, the laptop power for playing games is unexpectedly good. It runs any aaa+ game on at least 40-50 fps, and combined with a external cooler and the new Omen command center that controls the internal fans so good, you can get even better performance. Sometimes i have problems with it, but i think mostly is either from the system or the drivers not instaled corectly, so i might need to clean it up at sometime and reinstall everything just to be sure. My biggest test for it so far was running Assassins Creed Oddyssey throuh a hdmi cable on my 55" smart tv which is 4 k hdr , and i was able to play the game at ultra 4k hdr with 110 % resolution, everything literally maxed out with like 15-35 fps, which for me is a lot. So the laptop is a beast, but i think it still has small problems, which can be fixed, but overall well worth the price if you don`t want to go all in for the 2k + laptops. Hope my review helped, i will come with photos later on. Review made after using it for 1 month.

HP has a deserved reputation for making high-quality, solid and reliable hardware.Perhaps not so much for producing sexy, stylish and blisteringly fast gaming machines.Well that’s all changed with the Omen series!I had previously owned the entry-level Omen dc0003na, which I loved to bits. This model though – the dc1024na, featuring the enhanced GeForce GTX 16 1660TI graphics, is an absolute revelation.I love playing sims – trucks, trains and above all planes (can’t wait for MS Flight Sim 2020 btw). Where previously I would need to compromise a bit on the graphic detail to keep the game playable, with this little beauty, I can crank the graphics up to maximum and still enjoy an excellent frame-rate.It's also easily upgradable, which makes it as future-proof as is possible these days. The dedicated HP Omen Command Centre app is fun to use and allows you to configure the lighting effects and even launch all of your games. The B & O speakers provide very decent sound too – more than sufficient for casual music enjoyment (have iTunes playing in the background right now).Obviously a laptop of this power isn’t just for games. I put MS Office on here and the Omen copes brilliantly with my spreadsheets and I may even get around to completing my novel some time. The 1cm square keys I’m typing this on right now are short-travel but with a pleasantly tactile bounce. If pushed to make some criticism, it is that the battery life isn't that impressive. With a game running and maybe some audio too you can almost see the battery indicator visibly dropping. Expect around 3.5 hours on a full charge. That’s less than half the typical longevity for a business laptop. As I use it 95% of the time plugged in at home, that's not really too much of a problem and it seems to charge pretty rapidly. The charger and the front left of the laptop do get noticeably warm but not worryingly so.Overall, this is a terrific, high-spec laptop that has exceeded my expectations.

Cons: display isn't bright enough, had some serious backlight bleed on the top of the display on my unit. Speaker audio flactuates a lot. Idk if it was software issue or not. My unit had some faulty keyboard back lights. They light up but there was colour inconsistencies. And only one brightness level. Don't expect more than 2hours battery life, Since it only has gsync. No option to turn optimus on, not even in the bios. Keyboard shortcuts has serious limitations. You don't even get a "display turn off" button which is usually there on a F key in every laptop. Omen command center needs custom fan curve. Macro keys dont work in games even after binding them in OCC( tried to bind AC7 post stall manuever in one button, didn't work). Lots of hp bloatwares which are not only annoying, but invasive to your personal privacy.Pro: for an all plastic chassis, EXCELLENT build quality. Headphone/bluetooth audio is really good. I'm thankful that they put some thought about it. However, i wish they also enabled that B&O tuning for bluetooth audio. Top notch internals. Both the rams and the nvme drives are from samsung. You get an wifi 6 supported intel AX200 wifi card instead of those pesky killer/intel 9560 cards that you find in most top end laptops. For expansions, you get two nvme slots, along with one sata 2.5 slot. two ram slots and plenty of I/O ports on the left(thats the right way to do it, as it clears up the space on your right and you can use your mouse with out getting tangled in cables) This thing is kinda bulky but that came as a blessing as the cooling capacity is again, EXCELLENT! But you must change the thermal compound to something better. Fans are big, easily cleanable and quieter than any other top end gaming laptops. Overall, undeniable value for money. Only needs a few things sorted out and this can be the best of the best in every way.

They are separate and need doing once you've signed into windows.Xbox companion app works flawlessly to speak to and join your Xbox gamers cross play or private party chat. This spec omen is the sweet spot for 1080p maxed out gaming.I tested -Hunt showdown maxed 80fpsSea of thieves 100 fps maxedWorld of Warcraft 100+ fps ultraShadow of the tomb raider benchmark at ultra was average frame rate 80You won't go wrong with this spec,Everything silky smooth.DownsidesIt comes pre fitted 2x 4gb ram so will need a little more down the line, it will take 2x 8gb or a Max of 2x 16gb sticks upto 3200mhz, the pre fitted ones are DDR4 3200 which are fine anyway. It seems no corners cut at all here This model Omen caters for all.You know my reviews are unbiased and always true to as I find the product.Review Score is 9/10. 1 point off (just for the scrimp on the 2x 4gb ram sticks). Quite heavy for a Laptop - oh wait it isn't a Laptop because:The cooling fans are underneath(!) and will burn your legs if used on your lap and it's heavy too. This is basically a portable Desktop, although it has no expansion and no optical drive or mouse. You get a brick of a power supply and the machine. no manual and no e-links to find it.Posh box though. In use it's the standard Win 10 setup, just decline all the MS tracking nonsense and the MS 365 trial subscription - Libre Office is free. Likewise MacAfee is best dumped for am adequate and cheaper Anti-Virus as soon as you can.Kaspersky is half the price and twice as effective in tests.Usage, the keyboard is back-lit,but only in a crude sectional pattern - which is not of any real use, just make it one colour. The WASD keys can be coloured to use direction keys in gaming (why not the actual arrow keys???)No game bundle provided, nada - no bundled software - just MS 365 Office and McAfee subscription horrors.Screen - its good, but no where near as sharp as an Gaming ASUS Zephyr it directly competes with. The fonts are good, but not as crisp or as pin sharp. The solid state HDD is fast but small considering games are huge!Sound is good for small speakers, tuned (not supplied) by Bang and OlufsenFans are quieter than the ASUS Zephyr by a long shot and the machine seems sturdy - but it weighs far more than the competition - hardly portable with the hot fans below this means no soft surfaces.Desk or board use is mandatory and very short battery life means a mains plug is required.Response times are good, but honestly at this price I'd expect a killer machine on all counts. Not bad - but honestly you cannot beat a Desktop for gaming and up-gradability.

The intention behind selecting this computer was to have a strong machine to work on, that can handle audio and video editing, as well as every-day tasks. The computer game aspect of it is secondary for me, but it comes as an added bonus. This way I thought I can have a reliable machine and also the family can have a good games computer without needing to get a console (it justifies the expense somewhat). In terms of computing power the computer is excellent. 16GB of RAM and two hard disks (with the operating system on a solid state drive) gives reliable super fast start up to the system and apps within. None of this waiting for word to load up anymore. So in this aspect top notch. My video and auditing software also works without a glitch. Games are very good. Have tried a series of car racing games, shoot-em ups and some more graphic heavy options. Graphics are good, load up quick and performance equivalent to consoles. Video quality in HD is also superior to previous machines. You can enjoy netflix, no pb. Now the limitations. There is no touch-screen. I understand that touch screens are of less resolution and refresh rate, but if you are forking out in excess of £1500 this feels like a disappointment. Also, there is no optical drive. This is chunky laptop. It could accommodate a blue ray drive. It is missing the ability to see blue ray quality movies on this nice screen. The biggest limitation is the battery life which is a few hours (3) at best. This is a huge disappointment, and the charger is heavy. If this is meant to be a desktop dwelling machine, then one could get a desktop. All in all, I think there are better options out there, so unless you are a proper gamer, I would not necessarily choose this one.

I’m a big gamer and have been for 30 years. Mainly on consoles with every Nintendo and PlayStation but occasionally dipped into PC gaming but my previous laptops have not been able to cope with the frequent graphical and technical enhancements so I’ve only been able to play older games on them. Then I got the HP Omen and this laptop is a beast!Out the box it can already handle pretty much any game from what I gather, comparing each games requirements to the spec of this laptop. And when i say handle I mean it is completely able. Straight away I downloaded Apex Legends on Origin and one of my current favourites Final Fantasy XV on Steam, both of which wouldn’t run great on my old laptop but is so fast and smooth with absolutely incredible picture like I’ve never seen on a pc before. As a console gamer I also was able to connect my DualShock 4 to it in seconds and every game I’ve tried on this so far has worked perfectly with it and even has the correct button displays which i was very surprised and impressed with. The Omen key on the keyboard gives you current information such as the temperature of the laptop, current downloads etc. So is great for keeping everything in control, especially as it does get quite hot after an extensive session online. The only small complaint I have is the battery life isn’t the best as it only lasts perhaps 2-3 hours when playing a graphically demanding game but on something like Undertale it lasted a lot longer. All in all this is an absolutely amazing laptop that appears to be quite future proof (from what my more technically minded friends tell me at least!). I love it and think this could be that start of me being converted to a PC gamer after 30 years mainly on consoles.

This is a solid, well-made laptop. It just looks and feels quality.Picture quality on the screen is superb, very clear and sharp. It's incredibly fast. The setup itself was very quick, the hardest part was me trying to remember my passwords for things. Once it was setup, it was basically ready to use, without having to go through any more setup, other than the usual, signing into your own accounts etc.I put it through its paces to see how it does with various high demand processes.I've run these various high-demand games on it, to see how they run. They installed in a few minutes (my previous experience meant sometimes hours trying to install games), and when I opened the games to play them, they loaded instantly, basically no loading-screen time at all, and they play smoothly, no buffering or lagging, and that's on the highest quality display the games allow (i.e. the Witcher 1& 2, Sims 3 & 4. ) I think maybe, if you were playing the games for hours, there's a chance of lag, but from my basic tests, they ran perfectly. As for general use, using the internet for example, it runs very quickly, no waiting for pages to load, everything opens with no issues, no video lag on sites like YouTube, Netflix or prime. The sound quality is exceptional, which is great, as often laptop speakers can sound tinny, but these certainly don’t.My only issue with this laptop is that it does run a little hot at times, but considering the speed it works at, and the fact it is a laptop and not a full desktop computer, I think this is understandable, and so far it's not caused any problems.

I've only been using this laptop for a few days but I am highly impressed with it. I decided to opt for the more expensive 16 GB version which has a slightly more powerful graphics card and which came in at £1,300 (March 2020) - since I'm under coronavirus lockdown I figured I had nothing better to spend my money on.Anyway, this thing is lightning quick for everyday tasks and so far has handled the Steam games I've loaded with ease (Divinity 2 and old Total War games). In boots up in literally seconds and due to the high refresh rate for the screen everything looks silky smooth. There's a tiny bit of bloatware that comes pre-installed that I removed straight away, but not as much as you get with cheaper laptops.Speaking of cheaper laptops, I'm getting the impression that for a decent machine you really want to be spending over £1000 or so because all the models that are around £500-600 seem to have absolutely trash specs - and I looked for ages. Over the course of 6-7 years which is how long I want this to run, spending £1300 versus £700 is really not all that much difference so if you're like me and in doubt, just get it - you won't regret it!If you're getting the 8 GB version you'll probably need to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB because that's increasingly what you want for normal gaming I think - but apparently it is possible with these laptops.

This Hewlett Packard Omen laptop is supplied in a fancy box,has black body,8Gb ram and a 512 GB hard drive. As is common for gaming laptops these days,no optical drive is provided, you need to sign up to and purchase your games through an online provider like Steam or Gog galaxy. This laptop comes supplied with Windows 10 Home edition,so can double as a powerful home productivity PC as well as a gaming laptop. The speakers are supplied by Bang & Olufsen, ensuring good audio/sound performance for both gaming/movies/music etc.Aesthetically, the laptop looks pleasing with a smooth, elegant design.Having tried this for gaming now, performance is good with games performing well and graphically looking crispand sharp. The power lead is a little on the heavy side and does tend to overheat, with prolonged gaming usage.Additionally,on the down side, battery life is fairly poor when gaming, which is a bit of a disappointment.Furthermore, would have been nice to have been supplied with a slightly bigger hard drive as games these days take up a lot of space. In summary, this is a powerful, decent gaming laptop.I will subtract 1 star for the poor life of the laptop battery though,so 4 stars from me.
