This is a great printer. But there are many types of printers on the market. It's important to understand what this one should be used for.The hint is - this is a combo printer. It has a copier, scanner and fax built in. Normally you won't use that at home or at least not very often. This printer is designed for a home office or a small office where space is of the essence. It is very small for its class. Why am I explaining this? Read on.Pros- it's wireless. You send to print without cables means you can fit it wherever you like as long as it's in the same network. You can also print from multiple sources. Installation for me was effortless, as long as you follow instructions.- you can send to print from mobile devices/tablets.These days it's a really useful feature as you'll end up printing more from portable devices than a PC/laptop.- it's a simple printer. Most combo printers these day come with a touch display and have very complicated menu. This one is as simple as it can be- and if it's not simple for you, contrary to popular belief...it has a manual. Quite big (almost 200 pages) and thorough. Where? Online. Happy with that as wouldn't like a 200 page book delivered with the printer- it has an automatic paper feed (150 sheets). Also the top tray for copying/scanning/faxing is automatic- it automatically prints in duplex (both sides of paper). Not that popular amongst non-combo printers, but helpful for saving paper and squeezing more info- it can scale documents. Another useful feature, can print up to four pages on one sheet- the printing resolution is 600x600 dpi and that's a positive. Going back to beginning, this is an office printer. If you want to print holiday photos, get a high quality ink printer. This one is supposed to be fast and efficient and it is. Text and diagrams look great in black&white and in color- it prints really fast (after it warms up). I would say about 20 ppm. It won't jam paper if you prep it before putting it in tray. Has a nice system of reporting where it got stuck if it happened- it has good access to all components (tray, toners, drum etc.)- scanning is a standard, same quality as printing. Again it's meant to scan documents not detailed pictures. It's fast and you can use software for text recognition to turn the sheet into an editable document- copying is simple and as fast as all other functions. You can even scan a proper book with a closed lid, the hinges will come out a bit to adjust- faxing- I'll be honest, I haven't tried it. It's more a relict of the past used by a few chain businesses in this country and by no one else- the looks. I like it, looks really professional and it is small for its class- the cost. It's good for the class again, you get a color combo in a price of a regular laser color printer. Cost of toners? People think to pay £40 for a toner that lets you print roughly 1000 pages is a lot but if you look at cost of the competition, it's not. Plus you will mostly print in black&white and that is a separate toner to the colour ones.Cons- the feeding tray is a little flimsy. It's 'folded' before you put paper in, then it extends and has to stay like that until you keep paper in there. It doesn't stick too much though- the bit that holds the paper after printing. It's a small piece of plastic. I agree you don't need a bigger one but I have a feeling it may easily get broken in a small office environment- the power switch. Hmmm how could they mess it like that? So this printer like most has a standby mode. Except in that mode the power button will annoyingly blink at you (slowly but surely). You can switch it off by pressing it more than 3secs but it then won't wake up unless you press the button again. Big minus here!!!- lack of scan/copy to email. Another big minus!!! Come on HP, this technology can't be as expensive to take it away! Well, it is a modern successor of faxing and this printer...still has a fax- small minus, the LCD screen that gives you useful information about printer status is not back-lit. I think at least you should be able to switch the light on or off- I don't think at the moment there are replacement unbranded toners available for this model. Plus HP has it's authentication feature which rejects some unauthorised (read non-HP) toners. I understand that apart from wanting to make money on accessories, HP wants to ensure the quality of toners won't affect printing or even, in extreme cases, damage the printerAll on all I like this printer. It's simple, quick, versatile and relatively cheap compared to other combos. It's a HP so should also be reliable. I'm happy to have that one, using it mostly for work and my projects and for that it is perfect.

I would give give this five stars, except for the annoying feature that, if you are printing double-sided (which is my default mode), it will not do this for you automatically. You need to first print all of one side, then re-load and print the other.Other than that, it seems very good. Good, clear, crisp images, fast print speed, accurate colours. It is about twice the size of a typical home use inkjet printer, but I guess that is to be expected. The overall footprint is about the same, it’s just that it is twice as high.Essentially, you get almost everything that you would get from an inkjet printer, at about 3-4 times the price, but much sharper images. If you don’t mind the double-sided thing, this could be a reasonable choice.

whoa! this is way above my station. Whilst we all like a nice and efficient printer - this is definitely an office printer masquerading as a home office one. Being sold as a small solution - it weighs as much as a planet. In reality print quality is really good but I haven't yet costed the price of replacement ink - I have a horrible feeling it could be high. But for heavy duty printing at home and if you are running a small business or a frequent newsletter then this is a good solution. If for the once in a while printing a map or an email - this printer is the definition of using a sledgehammer to open a nut.HP offers printers for every kind of user at home - this is by far the printer of choice for the frequent quality print.
