So, if you are like me and find joy-cons the least ergodynamic and most uncomfortable because your hands are not pre-pubescent then keep reading this review if however you like joy cons but are looking for a upgrade or alternative then this is not for you and here is why.1. They have no battery.2. They have no wireless function.3. They have no motion.4. They have no rumble.5. They have no IR or Amiibo support. This unfortunately makes these anything but close to a joy-con replacement if you want to use them for Super Mario Party then they are as good as your old slippers. But all of what I just said is stated on the product this was not a surprise to me when I brought them.I brought them because using the switch in handheld (which is what I brought it for in the first place) was what I would describe as horrendous. The weight of the the tablet plus the joy-cons combined over a 30 minute period would give my hands considerable stress the main issue being my palm has no way of supporting the weight while also being able to use the analog sticks (if you can call them that) was a constant juggle of what I wanted to ache more my fingers or my thumbs in fact this was enough for me to sell my first switch. Now I imagine I'm not the only one like this and I know there is many people who love the Joy-con I don't mind them when they are of the tablet but if you are like me then this is what you need to know.THEY MAKE HANDHELD PLAY A MILLION TIMES BETTER. I impulse brought a new switch when I saw these announced before the pre-orders went live even and I can say that was one of my best decisions. I just played Mario Kart for 1 hour straight and forgot I was using a switch it felt like I was using a Xbox controller on a small monitor it was beautiful I feel motivated to go out and just use my switch in public places because of these controllers they are great do exactly what they say on the tin and for that reason alone they get 5 stars from me.HOWEVER I have one major gripe with these and it's that the buttons on the back (which for some people may aswell not be there) cannot be assigned to a button on the other half so you can assign the left button on the back to a button on the right half like "X" for example and while I also knew this before I made the purchase it does let it down slightly I hope this can change in the future but I won't hold my breath. Now in regards to everything they can't do compared to Joy-cons it's a massive shame they can't replace the Joy-cons but maybe we get a new one in the future that can do all the bells and whistles but until then for haandheld mode only these are THE BEST SOLUTION for my complaints about the Joy-cons and that was all I wanted. Now if they could release a sizeable case to house these while they attached or unattached while also carrying Joy-cons and various other accessories I would happily say the Switch is the perfect sleepover console.Sidenote: I played my switch for about a hour and a half mine is relatively new and hasn't had much chance for the battery to age but after the hour and half I had lost exactly 51% of my battery while playing Mario Kart constantly. I don't know if this means they drain battery I haven't bothered to test it compared to Joy-cons I will update this if I believe they are a battery drain.

After my left Joycon started to suffer from the dreaded drift, rather than invest in a second pair that could/would also break, I decided to purchase the HORI Split Pad Pro as a backup whilst I repaired my Joycon at home.Whilst there are definitely some trade offs (no vibration, no NFC, no gyroscope, no wireless), for a majority of games this won't be much of an issue as long as you intend to play in handheld mode, and there are plenty of benefits to this controller over the Joycon. The controllers are much more comfortable thanks to having a shape much closer to the Pro controller, and the sticks and d-pad are infinitely better than the Joycon's offerings. The controller also boasts 2 extra programmable buttons located on the rear of each half of the pad, which are perfect for action games like Astral Chain, as well a programmable turbo function. Once you're used to the quirks of these buttons they're fairly easy to use and program.Build quality is fairly decent. The plastic casing is a little cheap feeling, but it's also lightweight which means it doesn't add much extra weight to the main console, and the weight distribution feels more comfortable than with Joycon attached, especially over longer periods of play. I used to get cramps in my hands when playing in handheld for longer periods, but that's no longer an issue. The face buttons (ABXY) feel a little loose in the casing for my liking, though they're responsive and clicky, and the menu buttons are a kind of rubbery spongy plastic which is a little cheap feeling but they work with no issues at all so not much of a complaint. The Daemon X Machina theme is fairly subtle, other than the X button there is no other branding. If the pad was more expensive, I would expect a higher quality product, but I feel like at the £35-40 mark it's actually pretty decent.I've since repaired my Joycon, but I prefer to use the HORI Split Pad Pro whenever I can. I wouldn't use them much if I was traveling with my Switch, as the extra bulk really does reduce the Switch's portability, and I wouldn't recommend them for someone who mainly plays with the console docked as they would essentially be useless, but for anyone who plays handheld at home or doesn't mind the larger size to travel with I'd thoroughly recommend. I'd love for HORI or Nintendo to release a premium version which used a higher quality plastic and had some of the missing features from the Joycon but until that day I am very happy with the Split Pad Pro.

After a bit of research I came to the conclusion this was the best option for handheld play on the switch. A must buy to stop the cramped feeling of holding the switch with joy cons in handheld mode.Yes you lose out on rumble and motion controls but that isn't really an issue for me. I imagine no rumble saves battery and it's so much comfier to hold as this is like a controller split in two either side of your switch. Would say it's similar to the Xbox 360 controller in terms of size and girth etc.I had read some people saying this is too big to reach all the buttons but my hands are fairly small and I find it's perfect. Okay it's not the quality of an Xbox one controller but for the price it's great, all the buttons are responsive and have had no lag whatsoever. The sticks have so much more movement control and feel way more comfortable than the switches. I did need to get used to this controller as the buttons do have a little more travel than the joycons but you soon pick it up after 15 minutes of links awakening. As I said you lose out on rumble and motion controls so I had intended on getting a pro controller for docked play but the price was crazy so I decided to buy an 8bitdo SF30 pro controller which is half the price. If you don't know what it is check it out! It's a SNES controller with analog sticks. As I grew up playing the SNES this was a must buy and also has motions controls and rumble. You can also use this in TV mode and handheld and they work wireless and wired. One thing I have noticed with the Hori Split Pad Pro is because they are big there is a tiny bit of movement where they connect to the switch if you only hold one on its own. It seems they could snap off if dropped or forced so be careful.Other than that one issue these are great and give you a real controller when playing switch handheld. Some people say they look ridiculous but I think it makes the switch look amazing. You get a real d pad and proper button layout so not cramped hands or thumbs any more!!

I ordered a set of these when both Official Joycons developed a fault after only a short time.I begrudged giving Nintendo £70 for another pair of fragile Joycons that would probably break within a year, so decided to give these a shot.Build quality is nice, I disagree with some comments saying they feel cheap, they're just light as they have no battery (can only be used in handheld mode). The overall fit and feel is good for large hands, the only thing I have noticed is the right analogue stick is quite low down compared to other controllers, so it did get a bit uncomfortable. I've only used them for a few hours though, so when the muscle memory kicks in I'm sure it'll be fine. They add some substantial size to the Switch, but for me that isn't a problem. The accuracy of the analogues is brilliant, I struggled playing Fortnite duos with my son on the JoyCons, but I was lazering noobz from miles away with a pistol using these bad boys.3 main points to note when purchasing:1. No battery, they need to be connected to the Switch in handheld mode to work.2. No motion/gesture control or rumble feature.3. They're bulky but not out of the realms of still being portable. You wont get the Switch in a large pocket anymore, but can still be chucked in a small rucksack either attached or detached depending on space.I give these controller a solid 9/10, they lose a point because of the missing features.I'd happily pay Joycon prices for a version of these with all the JoyCon features, they certainly feel built to last compared to the finicky originals.

Ordered these a bit sceptical of the price due to the fact that they have no HD Rumble or any actual power to them other than that provided by the switch, which isn't making any noticable differences to battery life.I have quite big hands so I've always found the regular joycons a bit of a pain to use attached to the console and I have tried other kinds of case grips to resolve the issue but none have came quite close to how these controllers have. The have great feedback with no input delays the extra configurable button is well and truly needed especially with games like Zelda BOTW. The controllers are very light which is a portable bonus so it's not weighing your switch down. They fit in the dock really nice and look good in general.I haven't had any noticable problems as of yet but so far I'm really enjoying using them and they have been my primary used controllers when using the switch in handheld mode. One itch I may have is that it doesn't have any gyro features which is a pain when playing some games that require it in little parts, like zelda shrines, leaving me to switch back to the original joycons complete the part then switch back. However, other than that very minor issue I would recommend these controllers if you're having problems with gripping the console in handheld mode.

Perfect for those like myself with Giant man hands, the joycons that come supplied by Nintendo give me pins and needles after around 45 mins of handheld play due to their size and shape. The split pad pro, although it does make your switch considerably larger for handheld play, it is much more comfortable and for me it actually feels lighter to hold. The addition of the turbo function is a nice addition, I dont know which games to really use it on, I've tried it on the Mario and Sonic Olympic games for the 110m hurdles and it worked really well for the running, the instructions show you how to activate and even change the turbo speed between 3 different speeds. The best part for me is the extra FL and FR buttons on the back of the actual controllers, you can assign any other button to these buttons, say for example you're playing a shooting game and your grenade button is set to your Y button and you can't change it in the settings, with this controller your can easily assign it to your FR button. It's a really nice extra addition to a very comfortable controller. To summarise, this controller is perfect and a must have for those who have giant man hands like myself or play a lot of handheld play and want to play with comfort.

I was driven to replace my Joy Cons because the annoying "drift" finally kicked in, and my left Joy Con was unusable in any game, particularly Animal Crossing. I had the choice to either purchase two new (expensive) Nintendo branded joy cons, the Hori stand-alone left Joy Con, or these. It certainly didn't want to spend around £60+ on the Nintendo branded ones, and getting just one replacement left Joy Con didn't sit well, so I bought this option. A great choice it was. Some people have commented they feel plasticky and cheap, but I would disagree.Yes, they lack a rubbery texture on the grip, like most other "pro" controllers, but they still feel really solid, and VERY comfortably to hold.Having the more "professional" layout, with more distance between the buttons and controllers, makes all the difference. When attached, they fit perfectly, if not very snug, the entire thing fits perfectly into the "dock", without any worries. As I don't remove my joy cons much, if ever, to play, I have no concerns about them needing to be attached to use them.I have nothing bad to report, and they don't appear to drain the battery that much either, from my experience.

Its unusual for me to buy things new but I didnt pass this one up, since used prices are essentially the same or more expensive at the moment. It only works in handheld mode, but this was made totally clear so it's fine. It has a turbo feature and extra buttons for those that use those things. Not for me but nice I guess. The buttons feel good, so do the sticks and dpad, but the biggest attraction for me was the lack of joycon drift. I've only had it a day so dont know if this is an issue but I doubt it since the analogue sticks seem very different to the standard joycon ones. So perhaps I can use the console for half it's intended purpose- playing on the go! Other things are that it slots into the dock very nicely, and the buttons you're not going to use much(+,-,capture,home) have an ok rubbery feel. Other buttons feel very good. I cant find a comepletely comfortable way to hold it but I get the feeling I will with a little time. Probably better for those with big hands. Overall very stylish and functional, and the only product that's official that negates the switchs problems with handheld mode. For that reason it's a must buy.

The controllers felt quite flimsy at first but after trying them out I'm quite impressed, far better than the originals in many ways including the fact that they're made for Western hands not Japanese (yes Japan, we don't all have tiny everything's ?)The downsides are: there's no rumble feature whatsoever, no gyro, you can't turn on the Switch using it even when it's connected and you can't use them unless they're actually clipped onto the Switch, but having said that it's of no real concern since I mostly play games that don't use the gyro function and I almost never bother to play on my TV and the rumble isn't exactly a massive loss, however,I'm sorry to say that £35 for them is extremely steep imo especially considering the lack of these features, but the upsides outweigh the downsides, at least for me anyway, the turbo feature is a nice bonus which can be changed on the fly and the extra 2 buttons on the back can be a godsend on occasion, also which can be changed on the fly too so all in all I'm very happy with this purchase, just wish it wasn't so expensive for such a small amount of extra comfort, still, I'm happy ?

I only play my Switch in handheld mode and if you own a Switch you will know all about the hand cramps! for the past year I have been buying different grips and cases to try and find the best Ergonomic Comfortable grip whilst playing, I finally found some nice grips for the Joycons that were really comfortable, the only thing was the short joysticks on the joycon controllers are really not good for trying to aim precisely in FPS Games, I saw a few reviews about the Hori Split Pad Pro and thought I would give them a try, They are expensive and sold out most places atm but boy they are amazing, they make the Switch super comfy to hold and you get proper full length joysticks like an Xbox/Ps4 Controller, aiming is a million times better than trying to use the Standard short joycon. I'm really enjoying play FPS shooters on the switch again. The only negative thing is these do not have Vibration or Gyros, but I'm ok with that, I still have my standard joycons if I ever want to play games like Mario Part/Just dance. If you want the best handheld experience on your Switch I would definitely pick some of these up ?

Bought to replace a set of Joycons that I was experiencing Joycon Drift with and it has been a brilliant experience. These are so much more comfortable to hold when compared to the Joycons. Extremely simple to pair and get working, there are only two downsides for me.1- You can't wake the switch by the home button on this controller, you need to use the power button on the body of the switch, its an inconvenience.2- There are no features from the Joycons, no HD Rumble, no IR, no NFC etc...If you can live with, or cope without, the above mentioned grievances then these are a great alternative. For me the gripes are minor and do not detract from the comfortable experience of using these to play games, specifically good for FPS games. Also if you are getting these and looking for a suitable case the buy these along with the Khanka Hard Travel Case for Numark DJ2GO2 Ultra-Portable Two-Channel DJ Controller (case only). This case is brilliant to house the switch with these attached.

I don’t have big hands, but I do have arthritic hands. Because of this I don’t often play in “proper” handheld mode. If it’s not docked, then I have it on a stand on my lap and use a pro controller. When neither of those can be done, and I have to use it in the usual handheld mode I can’t do it for long.I already have one battery-less Hori controller, the left joycon they make, and I like it a lot, but it doesn’t help my right hand. After reading the reviews I thought I’d give these a go, and I’m so glad I did! They’re big, but light, and my useless hands can use them perfectly. I’ve been able to play for over an hour with these, when before I was lucky to do 15 mins. The only thing that bugs me is the extra bit on the back at the top,as it means I have to remove my plastic case before they’ll fit, but considering how comfortable they are for me to use, I’ll gladly let that slide! I’m not at all bothered about the lack of features, although understand why others would be.

I absolutely love these, they change the switch completely into a comfortable handheld console! I really enjoy the full size analog sticks and dpad. The bigger face buttons help make it more comfortable too!I have noticed no difference in battery life of the switch since putting them on (and I use my switch exclusively as a handheld).I haven't used the extra buttons behind the hand grips (they aren't in a good place for my hands unlike the xbox elite controller which is), and I haven't used the turbo button function as I have no games that need it.The analog sticks have a larger deadzone (compared to standard joycons),but they move very smoothly and register input very precisely. If you found the standard joycon to be too small and didn't appreciate them not having a dpad, I can't recommend these enough! The only negative thing I could say about my experience is the lack of rumble and motion controls. These would be perfect if that was sorted for a future model!

I bought this to replace my normal joy cons as the left analogue was drifting a lot! First off, it's for portable use only. But that's fine as I use my switch mainly for handheld purposes. The controllers are a bit chunky, but actually feel comfortable to play on. The D-Pad on the left controller is a bonus for people who like playing fighting games. Played Street Fighter Collection and Streets of Rage 4, and this thing is a joy to play! The original Joy Con with 4 buttons just doesn't feel right at all! This is basically a Slim Switch controller you can use for your Original Switch.Unfortunatly these are NOT joy cons even if these have the design look on the sliders.Plus these will not fit on the external joycon holder for TV docking. But on the whole a happy purchase!Update: These won't work properly on Paper Mario (when doing the arm stretch missions) as motion controls are needed and unfortunatly these don't have it, so had to use normal Joy Cons!

Bought this because original Joycons are not really great for long sessions on the move, mainly because there's not enough space to lay your palms. This controllers solve the issue. The automatic turbo mode helps preventing botton spamming and is really easy to use, just like the back buttons, which I haven't used yet due to not so complex games I've played, but they are there, ready to be mapped. As a side note, everytime you turn the switch off, button mapping/turbo is lost, but not a big issue, as it requires 3 secs to remap it.As mentioned at the beginning of the post, comfort gap with the original Joycons is too big to ignore, manufacture quality is good, and they feel more durable than original ones.Overall the loss of motion controls (never used) and NFC is not really a big loss, and rumble is not so important (in my opinion) when travelling.
